Scottish Picnic: Summer 2006

Picking up on Gomez' suggestion, maybe it would be nice to organise a Scottish Picnic somewhere.

Not sure about where or when - maybe McMudda, who lives near Loch Lomond or some of the Stirling/Perth people could suggest somewhere.

Do we want it during the school holidays - when people might be away on holiday, or a weekend in June, before the holidays start?

Would also suggest that we have it somewhere where an "inside" version is also an option, given the vagaries of the Scottish weather!

Do we want it with partners or not? If it is picnic and the little ones would be running around, it might be useful to have extra pairs of hands! Grin

OOoh Aberdeen is near me. Edinburgh probably a bit far. Somewhere in between?

Toothache · 12/06/2006 16:09

I'd be up for this.... could really do with a MN meet-up! And you'd finally get to meet by dd coz I've noone to watch her this time!

Transport is a major issue so somewhere on the Glasgow/Edin trainline would be fab.

18th June is fine for me..... Fathers Day. PERFECT!

ssd · 12/06/2006 16:17

gosh hello toothache!!

just seen this thread and noticed your name, how are you? where have you been hiding Grin!

Toothache · 12/06/2006 16:31

ssd - not good...there's a thread called "Toothache just grabbed 5mins to tell you..."

That explains it all, but basically my H was charged with assaulting me last week and is now bailed 280 miles awau and is refusing to even speak to the kids. Nice.
Got to go get the kids now. Desperately trying to get my home PC back on the net!

ssd · 12/06/2006 18:44

oh God that's bad news, I'm so sorry. I haven't seen your thread, will look for it. Hope your doing as well as can be expected Sad.

Toothache · 13/06/2006 12:46

bump

Is this going ahead on Sunday??? Anyone?

Twiga · 13/06/2006 21:27

bumping again - need to make some decisions...

Eulalia · 14/06/2006 11:21

Hello - would love to meet but am nervous about going as far as Edin/Glas with 3 kids on my own and travelling time obviously an issue.

Toothache · 14/06/2006 13:13

Where is everyone??!?
Eulalia - I'm in the same boat as you... will have to travel by public transport with 2 small kids. But I'm right in the middle between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

What about Princes Square in Glasgow? This Sunday?

squidgeymiller · 14/06/2006 14:16

Hi all, just checking out this thread for the future - DD is only 4 weeks old and not really ready for this sort of thing yet, but will definitely be up for meet ups in the future.

Twiga · 15/06/2006 00:38

Hi, we can still do this sunday - we're in Dumfries so Glasgow or Ed are fine for us, don't really know either very well but would manage I'm sure. I guess if it's all going to be a mad rush we could always organise another date?

prettybird · 15/06/2006 08:49

... sorry, don't think I'll be able to do this Sunday after all: we were away last weekend, will be away next weekend and have been really busy during the week, so we really need the weekend to catch up. Plus I might be having to go ut to look for two trees to buy (a present for ds' head teacher who is retiring after 26 years)

I'll keep an eye open about what is happening, and if we can make it out, I will.

Toothache - good to see you. I was worrying about you - and ds had been asking about your ds at the last few meet-ups.

I can't go this weekend as I shall be child-less and DH-less in Manchester. Will try for the next one.

gomez · 15/06/2006 16:44

Toothy - have been reading your news and I am so sorry, bloody hell missus.

Can't now do this weekend as I presumed lack of interest/venue meant wouldn't happen and have now made some other arrangements. Quite cross with myself actually.

Can do the Sunday after if that is any good to anyone???

Cheerio

jambuttie · 16/06/2006 17:50

this sunday is out for me too and i have my sil 3 next saturday overnight so they will go home around 2ish on the sundayAngry

could do the following week though 1/2 july if anyone's intersted.

I am in Livingston but can drive/train wherever we decide

Twiga · 17/06/2006 16:33

Doesn't look like there's really enough of us to go ahead - why don't we look at another date etc? Hope everyones enjoying their weekend so far Smile, we've got the Guid Nychburris parade and stuff on here in Dumfries today - they mark the boundaries of the town on horse back and there will be a huge parade of floats and bands going round the town this evening.

jambuttie · 17/06/2006 17:17

deffo do a meetup please!!!!!!

Eulalia · 19/06/2006 14:26

We couldn't have made it this weekend as our carer had to work and besides two of the kids have horrible colds. Would like to still meet up though. Have got nothing definate planned over the school hols. Stirling/Perth is still best for me.

jambuttie · 19/06/2006 16:32

edinburgh suits me but i can travel no problem

( may need directions thoughGrin)

schneebly · 19/06/2006 16:36

I am going to make a real effort to go to this one - I am just sooo far away - 150 miles from glasgow and even further fron edinburgh but if I was going that far wouln/t make too much differerence where!

Lilliput · 22/06/2006 22:55

So, what's happening then?

schneebly · 22/06/2006 23:16

Dunno but will bump before we fall off the bottom!

prettybird · 23/06/2006 09:20

... consensus please?

Should we try to roganise one during the holidays, or in ate Agust September, once the schools are back?

OP posts:
Lilliput · 23/06/2006 19:14

holidays are better for me, then we don't have to choose a weekend which can be tricky for me in the summer.

gomez · 27/06/2006 22:01

No real preference TBH - I will just be bigger and fatter the later we arrange so it depends how much amusement you ladies want!
