Scottish Picnic: Summer 2006

Picking up on Gomez' suggestion, maybe it would be nice to organise a Scottish Picnic somewhere.

Not sure about where or when - maybe McMudda, who lives near Loch Lomond or some of the Stirling/Perth people could suggest somewhere.

Do we want it during the school holidays - when people might be away on holiday, or a weekend in June, before the holidays start?

Would also suggest that we have it somewhere where an "inside" version is also an option, given the vagaries of the Scottish weather!

Do we want it with partners or not? If it is picnic and the little ones would be running around, it might be useful to have extra pairs of hands! Grin

GScrym on the food thing I was presuming Mr Marks & Mr Spencer would be doing the business.....

Games - I suppose depends on the ages of the children attending but DD1 at 6 would I am sure be up for some running about daft!

prettybird · 09/05/2006 12:01

At the moment 10th, 18th and 24th June are tying with 4 people apiece.

Who else is interested?

A picnic where we all bring a wee selection and we could do a bit of a pick and mix might be quite fun. Ds enjoys doing baking, so I ould get him to "help" me make something and bring it along. And M&S is doing its "buy 6 items from the deli and get a picnic accessory free" promotion at the monet! Grin

Has any decision been reached yet on partners? or should we wait until we have decided on a date (and ergo, who can make it) before seeing if the respective partners would like to come along! Wink

What is the view on partners?

Don't mind about partners, though if dh was able to come it would save me getting train/bus because he could drive us.

prettybird · 10/05/2006 13:17

SO at the moment it is looking like 18 or 24 June.

Any more takers who want to say when they would be available?

OP posts:
prettybird · 11/05/2006 11:55

The 18th is Father's Day. Not sure dh would want to spend it at a Mumsnet picnic! Grin

OP posts:
gomez · 11/05/2006 19:01

24th then? If so no DH Gomez as he is away for the last 2 weeks in June! And I will be desperate for some respite.....

prettybird · 15/05/2006 17:39

Shall we make it 24th then?

At the moment, that would make it:

Prettybird, GScrym, purplethistle, Gomez, kalex, Twiga

... and unforutnately, aimsmum and ja9 wouldn' be able to make it :(

... or alternatively, we could make it both weekends! Grin Thise who can make both weekends could thnk about having two picnics on consecutive weekend..... (somehow,I din't see our partners wearaing that! Wink)

OP posts:
ja9 · 15/05/2006 20:04

boo hoo boo hoo Wink

you go for it girls...

..i'll think of you as i'm floating on my lilo, shades on and the sun beating down on me!! i know where i'd rather be Wink!

PotPourri · 15/05/2006 20:18

Hiya. I'd love to come along. 24th of June should work for me, weekends are definately best, and not sure if DH would like to come, but he'd easily find something else to do in the area and we would make a weekend trip out of it.

Number 2 is due next week (eeek) but I would love to come but would need to be later into June if I am to be anything other than a zombie. I just scanned the thread and it seems to be in Stirling, with us all bringing something. I'm happy to bake, or buy something to bring along (crisps & dip, rolls, sandwich fillers). Problem is that I will be a bit tied up once the wee one arrives, so would the organiser mind dropping me an email? (cheeky I know), as I am more likely to be on email than mumsnet.

prettybird · 16/05/2006 09:16

Got home late last night (I was in London yesterday) to find that dh has organised a weekend away for 24th June! Shock. Can't complain though, as it is to see my best friend, and that is the only weekend that's suitable (her kids are sitting exams) - and we haven't seen each other in over a year!

So.... should we go back to the 18th? If Potpourri can also make that (I'll also drop her an e-mail), then that is the date with the best numbers (... and I still don't get to meet gscrym!)

OP posts:
gscrym · 16/05/2006 16:11

Don't worry about me, I'll try for the next one. I'll be swanning around Manchester, childless for the weekend.

Rhumba · 18/05/2006 12:59

hello just having a nosy to see if the locals are friendly!! Have just heard that Dh has got a job in Glasgow and don't know anyone there with kids! Haven't even a clue where we'll be living as have know idea where is nice with good schools etc but may well come to a meet up soon (if that's OK)Do you meet up often?

Arrgh have six weeks to sell house and move from Kent! sobetter get on!

ja9 · 18/05/2006 13:28

hi rhumba! welcome to scotland! glasgow is ace.. shops are fab.i'm in stirling which is really lovely

prettybird, i think you should make the picnic one of the dates that you can manage, cos you're the one organising it 7 i don't see anyone else willing to take that on...
