Scottish Picnic: Summer 2006

Picking up on Gomez' suggestion, maybe it would be nice to organise a Scottish Picnic somewhere.

Not sure about where or when - maybe McMudda, who lives near Loch Lomond or some of the Stirling/Perth people could suggest somewhere.

Do we want it during the school holidays - when people might be away on holiday, or a weekend in June, before the holidays start?

Would also suggest that we have it somewhere where an "inside" version is also an option, given the vagaries of the Scottish weather!

Do we want it with partners or not? If it is picnic and the little ones would be running around, it might be useful to have extra pairs of hands! Grin

Hello, Rhumba. A friendly native here. You'll love Glasgow. What age are your children?

prettybird · 18/05/2006 17:51

Hi MrsRhumba - I'm sure we'll all give you our opniions as to where the good places are in Glasgow for schools etc! Grin It's a great place to work - my dh's job used to be attracting businesses to locate in Glasgow! :)

We meet up every couple of months or so - we've got better at getting enough people together.

Having said that, can I do another number check on 18 June. Who would be able to make it? Previously, it was

Prettybird Aimsmum, ja9, Gomez, kalex, Twiga

I'll check with dh tonight if he either wants to come along, or would want us to do something sepcial with him on Father's Day.

If we don't get too many peope confirming that they want to come along and can make it, I suggest we maybe put off the idea of a picnic until say September, when the schools will be back and people should be back from any holidays.

Ds is 3 next week and DD is 8 months. feeling a bit sad to be leaving all my "baby friends" but it's a good time before they're settled into schools etc. Will also be near the grandparents and DH's siblings. (whispers) but I'm from edinburgh.

Thanks for the welcome! Have been spending the day on the web trying to find out about swimming, pre-schools, childcare.......

gomez · 19/05/2006 16:43

Ah hello. Just checking back in. Been taking it easy for a few days after some dodgy blood pressure readings.

Any hoo - I can do the 18th too - DH will be heading away for a fortnight on that date so should be free from early afternoon I think.

Otherwise September it is - when I will be mightly preggers and waddling like the maniac ducks at the McBob!

Hello Rhumba! You know your DH could work in Glasgow and you could still live in civilisation (i.e. Edinburgh) if you really wanted Grin!

Take care all.

Twiga · 22/05/2006 22:32

Hi, just checking in - 18th still ok for us. Hectic week here, dh's granpa died and we had to head over to Belfast for funeral, and dh has had his part 3 surgical exam today. All been a bit stressful really. Anyway, hope this finds you all well, lol x

jambuttie · 23/05/2006 14:28

is it the 18th june? where abouts

Eulalia · 23/05/2006 20:15

Hi, had almost forgotten about this. should be able to manage 18 June. Where is it - ds1 has special needs so need to know what kind of place we are going to. Thanks for organising this prettybird.

Sorry to hear about your dh's grandpa Twiga.

gomez · 31/05/2006 09:54

Bumpity bump...

Are we going ahead with this?

Eulalia · 31/05/2006 15:54

Yes I was thinking about this today too - its getting closer. Anyone??

Twiga · 01/06/2006 14:00

We're still up for the whole picnic thing - is perfect timing as dh off that weekend so can drive us up and will be an extra pair of hands to keep an eye on dd - that's if it's ok for him to come too? - we'd still come even if not Smile. Looking fwd to seeing everyone and Eulalia can't wait to see how much your lot have grown!

prettybird · 01/06/2006 14:15

I stil need to talk to dh abut it - it keeps on slipping my mind when I get home9exhaisted after a hard day at work).

I'll try and remember ot mention it to him tongiht.

Eulalia · 01/06/2006 17:29

Twiga - will come even if its just for you! :) I am glad your dh is coming too as he can also help out with my 3 (Twiga's dh runs off in horror), no really but it does help if I need to nip to the toilet or something. Am in the process of getting a carer for ds1 but probably not in time for this.

Loobie · 01/06/2006 19:49

Just found this Grin have scanned through ,can find the date but cant seem to find where?
Can anyone enlighten me LOL

Twiga · 01/06/2006 20:40

Loobie, we're meeting in the grounds of Stirling Uni using the McRobert Centre as our in-door back up should the weather be pants! Don't know if you know it but it's very nice with ducks and stuff and the McRobert is very child friendly. Hope you can make it.

Eulalia what a lovely thing to say Blush, dh is always game for a laugh and will be more than happy to pitch in all round. Will be great to see you!

ja9 · 02/06/2006 22:33

i'm not sure if this changes any of your plans, but i thought i should let you know...

Race for life is on 18 June at Stirling Uni, so it will be packed out. Means there'll be a real buzz about the place tho'.

gomez · 05/06/2006 17:08

Ahh Ja9 just came on to post the same thing. It will be horrendously busy if previous years are anything to go on. A change of venue would be advisable - just don't ask me where!

Twiga · 07/06/2006 21:04

No idea re: venue but bumping as the 18th fast approaching - Hi all Smile!

suzi2 · 07/06/2006 22:18

Dunfermline would suit me nicely Grin

suzi2 · 07/06/2006 22:52

Actually, I've jsut realised that I probably can't do that date anyway! so ignore me!

Twiga · 08/06/2006 09:24

Suzi2 - shame, you'll have to keep an eye out for the next one Smile.

nicnack2 · 08/06/2006 16:52

aberdeen???

nicnack2 · 08/06/2006 16:52

aberdeen???

gscrym · 08/06/2006 16:56

How about Princes Street Gardens. I would have suggested a beach but not much cop for those who have trains to catch.
