East Dulwich: want to meet up?

Hi there
I live in East Dulwich with my partner and 16 month old son. The trouble is, most of my friends with babies/toddlers live in west London where we used to live. I'd love to make some friends locally, but I work four days a week (off on Friday) so have found it hard! I've been to a few music groups, but haven't been able to track down any playgroups in the area. Does anyone have any tips for playgroups, or do you fancy meeting for a coffee? I work for a publishing company and am down to earth and friendly - just need some mum mates nearby!

I'm in Catford and off on Fridays too...

tigermoth · 27/10/2003 18:12

I'm about 25 mins away from Dulwich on the south circular, but usually at work on Fri, though not always..

aloha · 27/10/2003 18:18

I live in Camberwell. Don't work on Fridays either.

bossykate · 27/10/2003 20:04

i'm in brixton, will not be working fridays starting in 2 wks, but ds will still be at nursery - would i be allowed?

Oodle · 28/10/2003 09:49

Thanks for replying everyone - you've already made me feel better! Does anyone want to meet up next Friday, the 7th Nov (can't do this one for various reasons)? There's a really nice cafe in East Dulwich called The Blue Mountain Cafe on North Cross Road, which is a bit of a mums and kids hangout, but I'm more than happy to go somewhere else if it's more convenient for you. It will be a bit like a mums blind date! If that's not poss, does anyone know of any playgroups or One 0 clock clubs on a Friday?

Yes, that sounds nice. What time? Ds still has quite a long sleep...

bossykate · 28/10/2003 10:37

hi, can't make 7th November, we are going away for the weekend, hooray. in any case, think i will give it a miss, as i will be the only one without child! have fun

Blu · 28/10/2003 10:59

The One o'Clock club in Brockwell Park is open on Fridays, 1-4, and is really nice since it's been re-developed. Bit off the patch you are suggesting, but for your info...

aloha · 28/10/2003 11:10

A bit brrr if it's not nice weather...? Dulwich Park cafe is very nice! But I like Northcross Rd too.

Oodle · 28/10/2003 11:52

Shall we make it Dulwich Park Cafe instead on the 7th, then the kids can go on the swings and see the ducks too? What time would be good for you Aloha? Jed, my little boy, usually sleeps from about 11 till 1pm so any time after 1 would be good for us. And Blu, it's great to hear about the One O Clock club in Brockwell Park, I had no idea there was one there.

Er, could we revert to BM? Easier for me to get to: 185 bus, with kids...

Blu · 28/10/2003 13:22

I'm up for a meet up, either venue suits me.
Oodle, The Brockwell Park One o Clock club is open every week day except Thursday, at the moment. It's next to the playground.

aloha · 28/10/2003 14:09

There's a good one o clock at Crystal Palace, people tell me, and the one at Peckham Rye is quite good. Not suggesting them, just saying.

aloha · 28/10/2003 14:13

I'm happy with Blue Mountain if it's easy for motherinferior - it's very, very easy for me. 10 mins in the car.

Oodle · 28/10/2003 15:14

Excellent, let's revert to Blue Mountain. What time is best for you all on Friday 7th - is the afternoon OK? And how are we going to recognise each other? Shall we all wear fake moustaches? Thanks for the one o'clock club suggestions by the way.

I know what Motherinferior looks like already ha ha! She's got the most beautiful little girl in the world and I've got a really fat little boy with fair hair I'm 5'8' with longish brown hair - er, how do other mumsnetters do blind dates? Maybe just email each other on the day to swap details of dress etc????

Oodle · 28/10/2003 17:08

Didn't realise you already knew each other! How old are your kids, out of interest? Blu, are you going to come as well? The more the merrier! Shall we swap details/email addresses etc nearer the time? I really appreciate you all making the effort to meet up.

Blu · 28/10/2003 19:00

Yes, I'd love to come...I haven't met any of the other 'Usual Suspects' but have seen a pic of one person through e mail contact (you know who you are....) Personally, I favour fake moustaches, but otherwise, hissing 'is this the Mumsnet table?' in a Russian accent might work.
Is there a time?

aloha · 28/10/2003 19:57

My son is 2, born in September. I'm 40, if that's of any interest

aloha · 28/10/2003 19:58

Ooh, I've never done a proper meetup. Feel a bit nervous. looking forward to meeting you. I'm sure there are some other SE Londoners out there...

motherinferior · 28/10/2003 20:12

I'm sure there are too. Isn't slug one? Should we post on another topic, like 'others'??

Time? Would around 2pm suit you, given the lads' napping habits?

I'm 40 too, ahem, and my daughters are 2.8 and four months.

Oodle · 28/10/2003 20:15

I am too but looking forward to it. We could swap pics by email to save embarrasing mistaken identity incidents? Although I do like the idea of Trigger Happy type 'Are you Grey Rabbit' whispers in a Russian accent...

Oodle · 28/10/2003 20:16

I'm 34 by the way.
