East Dulwich: want to meet up?

Oodle · 27/10/2003 12:31

Hi there
I live in East Dulwich with my partner and 16 month old son. The trouble is, most of my friends with babies/toddlers live in west London where we used to live. I'd love to make some friends locally, but I work four days a week (off on Friday) so have found it hard! I've been to a few music groups, but haven't been able to track down any playgroups in the area. Does anyone have any tips for playgroups, or do you fancy meeting for a coffee? I work for a publishing company and am down to earth and friendly - just need some mum mates nearby!

Cha: is your dog grey, like an irish wolfhound type dog, OR a rather tubby dark brown setter-type dog, and did you pass a very excited 2 year-old screaming at the rats which run round the pond some time last week? Sadly, I am chained to my desk til Fri, this week. But we are going to the firework display on Wed eve.

Blue Mountain posse: I am 5'7 ish, short dark hair, size 12 with some extra bits, and was an older mum of the age that Cherie was whan she had Leo, (but without the benefit of Carole Caplin to apply my lipstick) . Have 2 yr old DS with dark curly hair.

Cha · 03/11/2003 16:25

I'm the one with the wolfhound type dog - though he would be very flattered to be called that! Those rats are fab, aren't they? London nature at its very finest. The kids love them anyway... We're going to the fireworks this Wed too - with the double buggy and kids (but minus dog). There will be millions there, but please say hello if you spot us (or another time). I'll look out for you and your ds too. How exciting - you will be my first mumsnetter that I meet.

Anyone know what - get this, please - PARKING is like round the BM? Think dp is away and I have use of the car. May or may not use it, not just because parking in our road is truly vile, but also because walking at least some of the way is the best way to get dd1 to a point where she sits appreciatively in a chair and munches cake, as opposed to running around making loud and inappropriate conversation with passers by...

aloha · 04/11/2003 09:25

motherinferior, there are no parking restrictions around there, though the streets are busy. You will be able to park within a short walk of the cafe. I'm driving too.

interupt this progamming Ah the Blue Mountain, where my first boyfriend recited a poem he had written about me then dumped me. Thank god for SPD or else I might turn up an relive first love

Carry on

motherinferior · 04/11/2003 10:14

Pie, we'll eat cake and think of you!

I'll see what the weather's like. If it's sunny, dd1 can prance part of the way along the bosky highway of the South Circular!

Ooooooh, am so looking forward to first Friday after week back at work

Oodle · 04/11/2003 16:27

Do you think the fireworks will be a bit scary for a 16 month old? We're really keen to go to Brockwell Park on Weds too, but I'm a bit paranoid about his ears/him screaming and ruining our fun! And do you know what time they start? Still looking forward to Fri.

Oh how exciting, I haven't looked at this board for months and suddenly there's an East Dulwich meet up. Can I join you on Fri? I have 2 DDs (nearly 3 and 7 months) but will probably only bring the little one as the big one will get bored v quick in the Blue Mountain. I'm another old mum (41 feeling like 85 of late), v tall with dark hair.

aloha · 04/11/2003 22:43

Ooh, yes do come. And less of the 'oldie' if you don't mind!

motherinferior · 05/11/2003 08:06

Am I going to be the ONLY short person there????

motherinferior · 05/11/2003 13:34

Listen - as I'll have the car and so many of us have fractious toddlers, shall we switch to Dulwich Park and let them run freeeeeee?

Blu · 05/11/2003 13:43

I would be in support of Dulwich Park cafe / park, much easier to manage DS's energy!

Brockwell park fireworks start 7.30, only Brixton Water Lane and Herne Hill gates will be open. WE're going to stand at the back and seee how it goes.I'll just take DS home if he's scared.

aloha · 05/11/2003 15:01

I'm fine with anywhere.

motherinferior · 05/11/2003 19:01

Whereabouts in the park, pliss?

Blu · 06/11/2003 10:35

In the cafe, at a table in the part to the right as you face the counter between the big glass doors and the chldrens play table? I will tie a ballon to DS's pushchair (a battered faded mcClaren techno) or to his ticycle (depending on what he' in the mood for).

Should we e mail the other people who are coming to make sure they get the change of venue?: Oodle, SamaCon and Jodieiemum? Also Tigermoth and Cha in case they change their mind tomorrow morning?

motherinferior · 06/11/2003 10:42

I'm sorry to sound so hopeless, but I've only been to DP ages ago. So I'm still confused. Where is the caff?

Blu · 06/11/2003 11:31

Enter the park from the entrance opposite The Dulwich Picture gallery (is that College Rd??), you can take the car in through that entrance and park along the driveway inside the park. The cafe is along the main path that leads from the driveway, sort of between the ponds and the swings, more or less in the centre of the park. It's a nicely done-up pavilion-style building with lots of space, tables inside and out.

My one proviso is suppose everyone else goes to BM. Oh b*gger.

tigermoth · 06/11/2003 13:22

wish I could be there! have fun tomorrow wherever you are and I'll look forward to meeting you all one weekend.

aloha · 06/11/2003 13:49

I think everyone should ideally go to the same place!! Park is cool with me. Ds would like it. What about Oodle though, this is her thread!!

motherinferior · 06/11/2003 13:53

Exactly! And Cha! They haven't been around since we moved it!

!!!!

aloha · 06/11/2003 13:55

Who wants to contact them???

Oodle · 06/11/2003 14:00

I'm here!! Just checking what was happening. I'm totally on for Dulwich Park, think it would be much easier as there's going to be quite a few of us now. Are we still saying 2pm?
