East Dulwich: want to meet up?

Oodle · 27/10/2003 12:31

Hi there
I live in East Dulwich with my partner and 16 month old son. The trouble is, most of my friends with babies/toddlers live in west London where we used to live. I'd love to make some friends locally, but I work four days a week (off on Friday) so have found it hard! I've been to a few music groups, but haven't been able to track down any playgroups in the area. Does anyone have any tips for playgroups, or do you fancy meeting for a coffee? I work for a publishing company and am down to earth and friendly - just need some mum mates nearby!

Jodiesmum? Cha? Are you there??

Blu · 06/11/2003 14:11

O.K, I will e mail them thru MN. SamACon and Jodiesmum, and Cha.

2pm, cafe, Dulwich Park, details as described a little lower down.

I will be offline after 6pm tonight, (but MI has my number.

Really looking foprward to meeting you all....

samACon · 06/11/2003 21:25

Just read Blus message, would love to have come but DD finally decided to make an appearance on tuesday morning and I'm not brave enough to venture out just yet ( see birth announcements for details!). I will definitely make it to the next one though!! Have fun and throw some bread at the ducks on my behalf.

Jodiesmum · 06/11/2003 22:29

Message received, see you all at 2pm tomorrow

motherinferior · 07/11/2003 19:55

Lovely to meet you all, and let's do it again soon!

jemw · 07/11/2003 20:01

Just logged on to say the same thing MI!!
Hope next time the cafe actually has some water though....

Blu · 10/11/2003 11:09

SAmACon, that's NO EXCUSE! Lovely to meet everyone, DS and I had a really nice time, so see you next time SaMaCon (oh, and congratulations!). Yeah, we'd better check the water supply to Dulwich Park. Honestly!

aloha · 10/11/2003 11:52

Yes - it was lovely to meet people however briefly - and JemW - we have a 'real' friend in common too! Next time I shall try not to leave my purse in the bank and get there on time! Oh, and put a proper coat on ds so he doesn't get too cold and want to come home. Bad mother, bad mother, bad mother! Oodle, there's a nice playgroup in the church hall near the top of Lordship Lane on Friday mornings from 10am - I can't remember the name of the church so will call my friend and post it later. There's also a nice O'Clock club at Peckham Rye Park and Babygym in Camberwell at the Leisure Centre at 10am on Thursday and Friday. I will scout out some more things for you if you like. A lot of stuff happens earlier in the week IME, but there are things happening on Fridays. Anyone fancy an outing to a local Xmas panto/kids show?

Blu · 10/11/2003 12:10

We'd be up for that Aloha...tho' DS really doesn't sit still. Think we should put our two in the blender!
Oodle: there is a good toddler group at St Faith's at the bottom of Red Post Hill on Monday mornings, where they also do a music group later in the week, not sure what day tho'.

On wed a.m DS and I will be in either Brockwell or Dulwich park, or the cafe in Sainsbury's, Dog Kennel Hill, if anyone's around.

motherinferior · 10/11/2003 12:34

Panto, oh yes we would!

(Although dd1 will probably try to climb up on stage and lead us all in song.)

aloha · 10/11/2003 13:20

My only worry is that ds has started to comment very loudly while watching TV "What's going on? Why's the lady talking? Where's the man gone? What's that?" - I can just imagine his indignant commentary during any show I take him to! I think he'd sit still though, esp if he had a bun to eat. He is officially the world's laziest toddler...

Blu · 19/11/2003 11:14

Anyone around Friday? a.m would suit me...coffee and a park?

motherinferior · 19/11/2003 11:42

can't do this fri but would love to do next?

Blu · 19/11/2003 15:38

Yep, I can do then. Anyone else?

bun · 25/11/2003 20:10

Can't believe I missed this. I'm in Camberwell - can I join in?

Cha · 25/11/2003 21:47

My dd goes to nursery on Fridays, worse luck.

aloha · 25/11/2003 22:03

Ooh, Bun, whereabouts? I'm at the Peckham end, near the Villa nursery.

motherinferior · 26/11/2003 10:24

As Blu's Representative On Earth (well, Mumsnet) I am empowered to tell you we are meeting at the Horniman museum, in the caff, this Friday (28 December) at 10am. Would anyone like to join me and the Elusive Blu One?

motherinferior · 26/11/2003 10:25

28 November, obviously.

And our assorted children will be there too.

twiglett · 26/11/2003 10:27

message withdrawn

samACon · 26/11/2003 11:05

I'll try and be brave enough to venture out too!
However, I have to pick DS2 up from nursery at 11:30, so it will only be a flying visit from me.

Will someone be wearing a red carnation, or have the balloon again 'cos I won't know who anyone is.

aloha · 26/11/2003 11:13

Yes please! My cleaner will be devastated - she worships my son. And we'll have to go home for a nap at 12ish, but it would be lovely to see you.

bun · 26/11/2003 13:41

Aloha, I'm on the other side of the Peckham rd, behind the art school. Nr Brunswick Park. I can't come on Friday as I already have a date, but maybe next time. Do you all meet weekly now?

Blu · 26/11/2003 14:44

I'm just popping in for a flying visit to MN today...I'll tie a balloon to DS's pushchair again, and all welcome, of course!

ALSO re Aloha's suggestion of a panto... For rough local charm rather than glitter and dazzle, what about Rasta Santa at Brockwell Lido? We went last year, it's scruffy but lively with songs and acrobatics, lasts an hour, everyone sits on the floor in a circle and toddlers roam, there's a car park, and it's £5. Morning or afternoon of 13th Dec? What about all you Brixton / Herne Hill folk, Bossykate, Cha, Batters, tigermoth?

aloha · 26/11/2003 15:04

Bun, you're my neighbour, I'm opposite the art school, off the Peckham Road.

And YES! to Rasta Santa, friends of mine went last year and had a rip-roaring time with an 20 month old and a three and a half year old.
