I live in Bath, me me me!

TheRhubarb · 28/07/2011 16:55

Right, now transport. As I live outside of Bath and me and Custy don't want to have to fork out for taxi home or get 2 buses back, so who lives around the Chippenham/Devizes area who fancies sharing transport back? The only thing with that is that we'd all have to agree to a time to head back home, but I'm sure we could persuade you all to stay out just a little while longer Grin

PM me if you want to arrange transport home - I'm assuming most can get there fine by day.

MoaningMcMyrtlepants · 29/07/2011 09:06

Sorry Rhubarb I'm in Chippenham but will be getting the train or bus home.

Where are you going to be staying?

Rhiana, welcome aboard :)

Last bus is 11pm I think, I haven't sussed out the trains yet but will probably need taxi from Chippenham too.

crispyseaweed · 29/07/2011 09:34

Have posted a few weeks ago that I was coming along.
Count me and a friend, who I will call The Queen of County Down. She comes to Bath a lot cos her DD is at University there.
We live in Salisbury !

MoaningMcMyrtlepants · 29/07/2011 09:59

Train is earlier than that at 10.50. It's bloody ridiculous to stop the last transport so early. My DH went to the theatre the other night in Bath and had to run to just about catch the train back. My FIL was saying he has missed the end of plays before now because of the stupid times of public transport. It is like they are trying to stop people enjoying themselves. I remember when I was young, free and single being able to have a night out in Bath and get home in the small hours.

Jeez this is getting huge! I'll check out Lime Lounge as it might be too small to fit us all in now!
Myrtle I wonder if it wouldn't be best to book a Travelodge room and return back during the day? Knowing Custy however she likes to chill out a bit and then head back home (she's 3 hours from us) and might not be too keen on getting bus back and then driving home. dh can't pick us up as he'll be looking after kids and taxi back from Bath .... I dread to think how much that would be! I was hoping that if a few were heading in the same direction we could all pitch in and hire a minibus type cab thingy which would work out just as cheap as a train ticket home.

Let me know if anyone is interested in doing this or has any other suggestions for heading back Chippenham way in the wee hours.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 29/07/2011 12:22

I need to get back to Swindon and was planning on catching the last train - can't see any other way to do it tbh.. Do they still have the milk train that goes at 6am?

AddictedtoCrunchies · 29/07/2011 12:23

Mind you if I start at 2pm the chances of me still being vertical by tea time are relatively slim so I may not even make the last train.

If anyone sees me drinking rose wine they have my permission to take it out of my hands forcibly. As I'll end up drunk as a skunk and telling everyione how much I love them. Not a good look.

LadyFlumpalot · 29/07/2011 21:09

I'll have to leave quite early Sad as I have a small child who will not take a bottle or anything that is not a boobie, but if anyone wants a lift Shaftesbury direction...

Although, I have a month and a bit to train the small child so I can get roaring drunk and fall over lots!

MrsFlittersnoop · 29/07/2011 22:19

It's starting to look as if Lime Lounge will be too small for all of us! I seem to recall that you can't book parties of more than 25 there- it really is quite small. Stuck my nose in at lunchtime last week and it was heaving, even on a Tuesday.

So, a couple of possible fall-back venues with lots of room:

Slug and Lettuce - very central near all the posh shops, can accommodate large all-day parties of drunken harridans jolly ladies, decent choice of inexpensive food/snacks; or:

The Cork Bar nice venue with choice of indoor or outdoor seating only 5 minutes walk from bus and train station and (important for Bath) multi-storey & underground car-parks. Offers a generous student discount on booze etc so I'll flash my card at them!

Alternatively, we could look at places like Ask, Wagamama etc.

oldsilver · 29/07/2011 22:25

Looks like I'll be doing the train quicker/easier/cheaper than bus - mind you only in Bristol Grin

Haven't been to Baff for years so know nothing of any venues.

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/07/2011 22:42

@MoaningMcMyrtlepants

Woohoo!! another one from Mumsnet Towers, will we have to mind our P&Q's?

No, she doesn't really. yes she does Damn strike out making me misbehave Grin

MrsFlittersnoop · 29/07/2011 22:46

Oh yes - deffo train! - only takes 13 minutes. Bus takes nearly an hour and goes all round Keynsham/Kingswood etc. Last train to Bristol is about 01.00am Sunday morning!

Only know about venues thanks to student status. My contemporaries and family are either too old or too young to go carousing with on a regular basis, so I just hang out occasionally with the dear little things on my course. Slug and Lettuce (great Georgian building!) is where a fellow student works to pay her rent, and the Cork is over the road from college!

MrsFlittersnoop · 29/07/2011 22:47

No dear, of course you don't! Grin

Friday night is it? Grin

spout · 31/07/2011 08:38

Hello Bath-botherers Grin another vote for the Cork Vaults - I've met with a group who'd reserved the podium bit before. Can't remember how many of us there were, think about 20-odd..

Tortington · 31/07/2011 23:57

just marking my place again

OP posts:
AddictedtoCrunchies · 01/08/2011 10:53

Me too.

TheRhubarb · 03/08/2011 08:47

So can anyone from Bath find a place that is:
a) Reasonable for food
b) Can take a group of rowdy Mumsnetters
c) Has a good atmosphere

And when I say reasonable for food, bear in mind I come from Oldham so no more than £1.50 for a chip butty. Grin

Last bus to Chippenham is 23.00 and last train is 22.43. Don't know how reliable the bus will be.
Anymore peeps coming from Chippenham way? Was thinking a group of us could get a sort of minibus cab if anyone wanted to stay out any later? Or do you all have to be in bed by 10pm? Eh? Eh?

RebeccaMumsnet · 03/08/2011 14:09

Cork vaults looks really nice, have never been and would be nice to try somewhere new?

Other options Browns bit posh but I know someone who works there so could mabee pull some strings?

Green Park ? Slug and Lettuce is nice but v busy or Las Iguanas do lovely cocktails?

MoaningMcMyrtlepants · 03/08/2011 16:38

In the slug and lettuce at the moment. It's big enough for us. Food is a decent price but toilets leave something to be desired.

TheRhubarb · 04/08/2011 19:02

I like the name. Is it like a Wetherspoons? I like Wetherspoons although the Bath one is a bit pants, which sucks for Bath.

I waaaant a beer!

TheRhubarb · 04/08/2011 19:52

I know I know! Right obviously some of you lot are a bit posh right, so no pizza hut or anything. Therefore how about an upmarket pizza place? How about Pizza Express? That is well posh and they serve wine and everything!

fivegomadindorset · 04/08/2011 19:54

Need to get my fat arse in gear and book a room.

TheRhubarb · 04/08/2011 19:57

Oh I don't think Pizza Express do rooms Confused
