Egg fast starting Monday 21 July

StuntNun · 19/07/2014 14:45

This is the support thread for the egg fast. I have based the rules on Jimmy Moore's Eggfest. Please note that this is an experimental fast and may not be suitable for people with underlying health conditions. It is intended for people that are already following a low carb - high fat diet and are trying to break a stall or lose the last few pounds to reach their goal weight.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor or nutritionist. If you follow this fast and have any issues at all such as feeling unwell then seriously consider stopping the fast immediately. Alternatively wait until a few of us have tried it first!

THE RULES

1. Eat at least six eggs per day
This is not a calorie-restricted diet so eat to fullness.

2. Buy the best quality eggs you can
Free range eggs may contain more omega 3 fats and vitamin D.

3. Eat one tablespoon of butter per egg
Coconut oil, olive oil and mayo may also be used.

4. You may add up to one ounce of cheese per egg if desired
Make sure your cheese is low carb.

5. Drink as much water as you can: at least 2-4 litres MINIMUM
Black or bulletproof coffee, black tea, green tea and herbal tea can be added if required.

6. Add salt and keep taking your usual vitamins (if taken)
Consider extra magnesium and potassium to prevent cramps.
If you suffer from constipation then flaxseed may help.

7. Exercise daily
Even a short walk will help maintain lean muscle mass.

8. Eat three meals a day; if not hungry eat one egg
Your appetite will be reduced but keep eating to preserve lean muscle mass.

9. Follow the egg fast for three days; five days may give better results
You will be sick of eggs by the third day.

10. Transition back to your normal diet
E.g. the day after eat two egg meals and one normal meal (whatever you usually eat), the day after that eat one egg meal and two normal meals. Consider keeping on eating at least two eggs a day to maintain the effects of the fast.

Sod it, I'm having a cup of tea.

Iamblossom · 23/07/2014 16:21

bloody hot here too (Hampshire). Feeling quite sleepy to be honest.

Might have a decaf coffee with sweetener and some more water. Not hungry at all.

ihatethecold · 23/07/2014 16:33

Stuntnun, you rebel!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 17:21

Stunt :o

I've sent DP to the shops for sugar free sprite to make ice lollies. Bleurgh, the heat.

questions2008 · 23/07/2014 18:11

right, i've spent all day in the car!! lucky i had those eggs to keep going. and devilled eggs are yummy!

cat that's great result!

good we are starting to see the results...I just got on the scales and I'm down 2.5kgs!!! I was a bit worried as yesterday I weighed myself and was up by 0.1kg. Tried to ignore it and carried on anyway! So glad I did. So in 48 hrs of egg fast I have lost 5.5lbs. Amaze-balls.

I have had 7 eggs today, 22g of cheddar and one black coffee. I've kept an egg spare in case I feel hungry around 8, but that's the latest I'll eat.

I would have liked to continue into tomorrow but unfortunately we have an all day/dinner team meeting thing, with a sit down dinner. so I can have eggs for breakfast. I will take eggs with me in case I can sneak out of lunch (unlikely). but I will just eat the meat of whatever is served for dinner. I think I will try to do egg on friday too.

I am feeling a little tired, but it is so hot here, it could well be the heat sapping our energy too? I'm not worried about carrying on - I spent 4 months on a VLCD - (400 calories p/day) a few years ago, so I know a few days of eggs ain't gonna kill me!

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 18:26

Only two grams of carbs in my cup of tea so I suspect I'll live. Grin I hadn't had a cup of tea since Sunday, it's not natural I tell you.

I'm on my TOTM so I'm not sure how that affects my weight as I do usually see a gain part way into it. I'll be leaping out of bed to do my weigh in tomorrow as I feel thinner but I'm not sure whether that's just my imagination.

I am looking forward to proper (low carb) food again tomorrow but I'm not desperate for it iyswim. I'm doing two egg meals and I'll have steak and salad with vinaigrette for lunch. On Friday I'll have eggs for breakfast, sardines and salad for lunch, and steak with mushrooms fried in butter. Then I think I'll go back to my usual weigh of eating which is intermittant fasting 14:10 for three or four days a week.

Sorry for appalling typos in that post. Oh the shame!

OP posts:
SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 18:39

The typos I make on this phone! Don't be silly!

I take it you like steak then? :o When it's my TOTM, I gain 5lbs everytime, so I guess you wont know properly until it's over.

Questions It probably is the heat, you're right.

I've still only managed the pot of egg mayo, which I worked out has a staggering 500 and something calories. It wasn't even a big pot.

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 19:07

I do like steak Schro but it's more for having something super quick to cook while the kids are eating. My 20-month old just will not let me cook so it's a real problem while DH is away on business. The kids are living on pizza, fish fingers, pasta and pesto, burgers etc. Not that they're complaining mind!

OP posts:
Iamblossom · 23/07/2014 19:25

Evening all. I think it's the heat making me sleepy too.

Questions that is a great loss. Why do you weigh at any other time than first thing out of interest? I suspect if you weigh after a wee and before eating or drinking anything tomorrow you'll find you have lost even more!!

B - 2 hard boiled eggs with butter and salt
L - 3 eggs scrambled with butter, 2 oz of cheese
Snack - guess what? Yep, an egg....and 2 oz cheese
T -3 egg cheese omelettes fired in butter

Water, decaf coffee and. Am about to have a diet coke. Gym this morning.

If I see 9 2 tomorrow on the scales I will do day 4. If not, I doubt I will manage not to have a g&t or two tomorrow night, particularly as it is my bff's 40th!!!

For me the worst time of day is 5/6pm when I might usually have a drink and some nuts. I have eaten much earlier this week to get over that hump.

Stunt iykwim, I feel slimmer too, felt good in the mirrors at the gym this morning!!

Iamblossom · 23/07/2014 19:28

Good diet to be on when you have to go to the dentist as I did today! Nice soft food....

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 22:28

Boiled eggs, cheese omelette, scrambled eggs, a couple of ounces of cheese, two BPCs and er a cup of tea. Egg fast is done! I can't wait to see the scales tomorrow.

OP posts:
questions2008 · 23/07/2014 22:50

Iamblossom two reasons, 1 being that the scales are at mum's so had to wait until I'd finished work and went round to pick up DS, and 2 because I'd weighed on Mon about the same time due to the above!

You're right though, I think i may just borrow the scales, and start weighing in the mornings. I will get to weigh tomorrow morning as have to drop DS off at mum's before heading out to meeting.

I think my worst time of the day is late afternoon, after lunch but not yet dinner...I have usually filled the gap with chocolate/crisps.

I have prepared devilled eggs and eggs and mayo again in the hope I can continue at least 2 meals tomorrow.

so who fancies a bit of egg? Grin

schro did you get any more eggs down?

stunt same here, always put weight on at TOTM.

Well done to all, we did it!

questions2008 · 23/07/2014 22:55

hmm, I just realised I will be faced with an awful lot of (free) alcohol tomorrow evening. I must resist!!

StuntNun · 24/07/2014 07:13

Funny story Questions I was out last Sunday and needed to have a socially obligated drink so I cleverly asked for vodka as that's supposed to be one of the better ones for low carb... then forgot to ask for diet lemonade! I may as well have just had a beer!

The egg fast seem to have worked pretty well for me. I feel fine this morning and I've lost 2 lb 3 oz which is good going for only three days! Only three pounds to go to my goal of 9 stone. I'm definitely going to ease back into low carb to try and avoid regaining any weight. I'll see how I feel today and maybe do another eggy day but I had a bad night with DS3 so I'm not going to put any pressure on myself.

OP posts:
Iamblossom · 24/07/2014 08:32

A very definite 9 3 this morning so have lost two pounds. Am going to try and do all day today too, but may not get another egg only tea past dh. He hasn't really noticed so far but he may today.

Am also going to be strict low carb for next three weeks until I go on holiday.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/07/2014 09:45

Sorry about the lack of posting, DS1 refused to sleep until really late yesterday.

Managed an omelette last night and then had a longish walk to Asda to get Oasis mighty drops as I really needed a nice tasting drink.

Stunt That sounds like my kids diet just now, they're not entertaining anything else as they seem constantly drowsy and whiney in the heat, I feel terrible for it as I feel a bit of a hypocrite as I wouldn't eat any of it myself now, same as yours though, they're not complaining!

Haven't weighed yet.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/07/2014 09:53

Weighing at 150, so 3 lbs. I am tempted to do today too but quite frankly I want a slice of pepperoni and some tuna.

Well done Blossom and everybody actually! We got through it and can look forward to a nice normal lc meal today! :o

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/07/2014 10:06

Another thing, I decided to use a keto stick yesterday for the first time in ages, I know they're useless but I was curious. I have never seen it so purple, it was actually almost black. Confused I have been drinking litres and litres of water so I don't know how it ended up at that...

ihatethecold · 24/07/2014 10:55

What does that mean. Is it bad that it was almost black.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/07/2014 11:06

It would normally meanI haven't had enough water, but I have had loads.

Had my first non egg meal, a stupidly calorific salad, it was a ready to eat bowl with lettuce, cucumber and a couple of cherry toms and an egg, I added a tiny tin of no drain tuna, a bit of mayo and some boursin bites. I ate the lot, minus the egg. Blush.

Will have eggy meals for lunch and dinner, planning cream cheese pancakes for lunch.

StuntNun · 24/07/2014 12:03

I'm only getting 10-12 grams of carbs a day at the moment Schro which puts you into deep ketosis so you would expect the sticks to be very dark. If you've been LC for a while then your liver is having to manufacture 140g of glucose a day from the glycerol backbone of triglycerides and the protein in your diet. Your brain is running on a combination of glucose and ketones. Your muscles are running entirely on fatty acids from your diet and your fat stores. If you're new to LC then your muscles will be using a mixture of ketones and fatty acids.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/07/2014 12:41

Stunt Been LCing for a while, glad to know it's not just because I'm not having enough water.

Gammon and prawn sounds lovely Blossom.
