Egg fast starting Monday 21 July

This is the support thread for the egg fast. I have based the rules on Jimmy Moore's Eggfest. Please note that this is an experimental fast and may not be suitable for people with underlying health conditions. It is intended for people that are already following a low carb - high fat diet and are trying to break a stall or lose the last few pounds to reach their goal weight.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor or nutritionist. If you follow this fast and have any issues at all such as feeling unwell then seriously consider stopping the fast immediately. Alternatively wait until a few of us have tried it first!

THE RULES

1. Eat at least six eggs per day
This is not a calorie-restricted diet so eat to fullness.

2. Buy the best quality eggs you can
Free range eggs may contain more omega 3 fats and vitamin D.

3. Eat one tablespoon of butter per egg
Coconut oil, olive oil and mayo may also be used.

4. You may add up to one ounce of cheese per egg if desired
Make sure your cheese is low carb.

5. Drink as much water as you can: at least 2-4 litres MINIMUM
Black or bulletproof coffee, black tea, green tea and herbal tea can be added if required.

6. Add salt and keep taking your usual vitamins (if taken)
Consider extra magnesium and potassium to prevent cramps.
If you suffer from constipation then flaxseed may help.

7. Exercise daily
Even a short walk will help maintain lean muscle mass.

8. Eat three meals a day; if not hungry eat one egg
Your appetite will be reduced but keep eating to preserve lean muscle mass.

9. Follow the egg fast for three days; five days may give better results
You will be sick of eggs by the third day.

10. Transition back to your normal diet
E.g. the day after eat two egg meals and one normal meal (whatever you usually eat), the day after that eat one egg meal and two normal meals. Consider keeping on eating at least two eggs a day to maintain the effects of the fast.

i've almost drunk 8 friggin litres of water today, i might as well just work sitting on the loo.....

StuntNun · 22/07/2014 22:34

I had nine eggs yesterday Questions, but only seven today although I had a bit more cheese today than yesterday. But seven litres of water! Blimey and I was chuffed with myself for managing four.

questions2008 · 22/07/2014 22:38

Yes I had a bit more cheese today too, about 45g vs 15g.

It's the 1.5 ltr bottle, i swear by it. Find it easy to finish it off then refill and just keep swigging and before i know it i've done 4/5 of them.

what i'm missing is exercise. i really need to figure that one out soon.

antimatter · 22/07/2014 22:45

questions2008 - thanks! I hope so!

yes - eating when bored or anxious!
that is my issue for many years now, over 30 years I would say! so pretty ingrained in my behaviour

DiscoDancer · 22/07/2014 23:01

Marking place to read later.

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 07:13

I missed your post yesterday Antimatter I hope you're feeling better today. Flowers

Okay. Day 3 then!

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 07:47

Day 1 - 132.0 lb
Day 2 - 131.0 lb
Day 3 - 130.8 lb

Not much of a drop today but at least yesterday's is maintained. It definitely won't be worth it if I only lose a pound and then regain it but we'll see what the scales say tomorrow. I'm feeling a bit crap this morning but I think yesterday's walk was a bit too ambitious as my calves are sore this morning. A two-hour walk carrying a 12.5 kg toddler is rather more than I'm used to!

Last day of just eggs Grin I have a steak in the freezer for tomorrow's dinner, I'll have it with salad leaves and homemade vinaigrette.

I have noticed that my mood is very flat.
Maybe I'm missing my dark chocolate!

I've had a 2 egg ommelette with a slice of wafer thin ham and a dollop of Philly.
Will have a bpc when I've walked my dog.
How is everyone else feeling? Ok?

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 08:45

ihatethecold I'm a bit worried by the way we all seem to be fatigued. I suspect three days of this will be plenty.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 08:55

Knackered again today too, I agree 3 days is plenty, my mood is actually starting to become quite low Confused, will try a BPC in a bit, haven't stepped on scales yet...

catinbootz · 23/07/2014 09:05

Exhausted this morning but a massive 5lb down this morning. That's 6lb in total Smile

Didn't sleep well and feeling a bit feeble now

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 09:18

Day 1 - 153
Day 2 - 152
Day 3 - 151!

Iamblossom · 23/07/2014 09:23

Morning. Reporting live from the cross trainer at the gym - my energy levels are fine!

Scales said another pound down today so 9 3.

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 09:27

Actually I had a BPC, two boiled eggs, some salt and a big glass of water and now I feel fine.

OP posts:
SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 09:35

Up at the GP with a red bull and feel fine again! Great actually, weird.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 09:36

Wow! Cat 6lbs!?

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 09:39

Maybe it's just like carb flu. I wouldn't normally spend a lot of time in ketosis as I usually eat berries, nuts and dark chocolate. This is a lot like how I felt when I started LCHF and I had to drag myself downstairs in the morning to get something to eat and I needed more salt and a lot of water. In that case it might get better after a day or two. A lot of people eat very low carb all the time and you do get people on no carb diets for extended periods.

OP posts:
SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 09:42

I do have occasional berries or nuts but always try to stay under 20g a day, apart from the occasional blip.
Does feel very much like carb flu, but it goes away! :/

ihatethecold · 23/07/2014 09:59

Well I've just walked 3 miles with the dog.
Bit knackered now.
Well done everyone. 2 more meals to go!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 10:57

Woo! Must admit, as much as I like eggs, I am looking forward to the end of this!
Haven't eaten yet, but will when I get home, I've bought a lovely tub of tuna with Thai mayo to have for my lunch tomorrow. Will do egg meals breakfast and dinner. :). I am so looking forward to my tuna!

ihatethecold · 23/07/2014 11:15

I know, you start looking lovingly at veg!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 11:55

I'm a veg lover anyway, makes it harder!

Having a BPC, tastes much better today with better and less coffee, considering keeping it to just one non egg meal a day for a while.

catinbootz · 23/07/2014 14:23

I started at 175 though BlushBlushBlush

I am totally not hungry today and have perked up after a gentle swim with DS2. I'm going to see if I can do till Friday - I'm a bridesmaid a week on Saturday and my dress is just a little bit too snug Grin

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 15:19

I'm sure you will get the dress to fit lovely by then! I am still perky and have treated myself by buying nicer coconut oil.

Have managed a 275g pack of egg mayo (no sugar one) a bpc, and that's it so far.

Might have eggs with Hollandaise later. Seriously hot here in Glasgow, right on time for the games! So have had tons of water, 2 diet energy drinks and some diet Dr pepper.
