Morning all.

Spreadsheet, as ever

Although we're coming to the end of this particular Bootcamp, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added enough columns to the spreadsheet so that you can keep going, should you wish.

We'll also keep this thread going too, past the end of the week, for general low carb/Bootcamp chat and support - although I won't be starting a weigh-in thread each Monday after this one.

I know it's only been a short one this time, but looking at the spreadsheet, it looks like there have been some great results, even before today's weigh-in. Flowers

@BIWI like everybody else, I'm saddened to hear that bootcamp won't be continuing, but I completely understand your reasoning. I only started LC 1 year ago, after reading about the effects of keto on lipoedema. I hadn't a clue what I was doing, but found your incredible bootcamp resources, shamelessly 'borrowed' them to start the next day, and can quite honestly say, you have transformed my life in terms of reduction in pain and swelling (plus numerous other positive side effects). Thank you so much for all of your time and effort both producing content, and delivering support.

Thank you @somanylights Flowers

I really appreciate that.

Gosh I just read your post that you won't be running Boot camp anymore, and your reasons why. I just wanted to say how much I've appreciated them in the past, such a great source of support, advice and accountability. You're a MN institution! I'm sure it's been a huge amount of work and I'm sorry that you don't feel it's valued by MN, but for me and I'm sure many others, I'm so grateful for everything you've done, you've genuinely changed many people's lives!

BIWI · 15/03/2025 10:34

Also thank you! Flowers

Totally agree with @Appalonia BIWI you have definitely had a huge impact on many Mumsnetters lives. Amazing work! 👏💛

Almahart · 19/03/2025 18:34

I'm still going, but am getting really hungry and realised today that I'm not eating enough fat.

CleanQueen123 · 19/03/2025 18:35

@BIWI can I have your guidance please? Day 2 of ubercamp calls for 100g of avocado for lunch but I absolutely cannot stand it. What's the best substitute?

If you don't like avocado, could you substitute it with something like halloumi cheese instead? Or feta?

venusandmars · 19/03/2025 22:20

Or other things with high oils - a tin of sardines mashed with cream cheese to make a pate? or if you're avoiding dairy, tuna mashed with mayonnaise. Maybe something with nuts - pecans, brazils, macademias are lowest carb. Or 'something' with avocado oil (which doesn't taste of avocado).

SemmaLina · 22/03/2025 07:34

Another one to say
Thanks @BIWI and the helpers
I’m back from holiday , and obviously having put the weight back on ( thanks mainly to the *Sin Room in the buffet at one of the hotels ) popped back to see when the next Bootcamp started

  • Sin Room was where all the lovely breakfast pastries and desserts were displayed , asking to be eaten
  • not the other sort of Sin
I’ll refer myself to the rules and the many spread sheets of help
BIWI · 22/03/2025 16:15

Sorry @CleanQueen123 - I missed your post. It’s a long time since I’ve looked at the ubercamp recipes, so I’ll go and check and have a think now.

OP posts:
BIWI · 22/03/2025 16:21

I think I’d probably just substitute the lunch for that day with one from another day. Either that or replace the avocado with some coleslaw.

CleanQueen123 · 22/03/2025 17:59

Thanks @BIWI and everyone else for their suggestions. If the different lunches on different days are more for variety than anything else I'll probably just have the same lunch two days in a row.

Still no loss. I seem to have accidentally fallen in to maintaining which isn't where I want to be. Ubercamp time next week and then I think I'll have to strict bootcamp for a few weeks to kick start it all again.

Wedding was on Friday, after 3 weeks of being in Australia and struggling to eat “sensibly” (lack of water, plenty of wine and lots of excellent ice-creams which ended up being meal substitutes Blush.

Neverthless, still managed to get into my dress - albeit with less “ease” than I’d got to at the end of February so I had to be careful leaning down and when I sat Blush and more of a tummy bump - but I felt good Smile

I think you look fabulous

venusandmars · 24/03/2025 12:31

@prettybird that is a gorgeous dress, and you look fabulous. And relaxed and healthy.

I too had a to wear a dress that was quite a bit too snug last week and sitting down was indeed a bit of a challenge, especially since I was in a position where I was in charge and others were an audience. I was perching on the edge of my seat trying to preserve my modesty and the seams of my dress! I last wore that dress comfortably in July 2019 and it's given me the kick to get back on bootcamp woe.

There was an article in the weekend Times by Dr Georgia Ede a psychiatrist and nutritionist, all about a ketogenic lifestyle and the benefits of preserving brain health as we age. I swear she has copied the bootcamp rules!

  • lowish carbs, moderate protein, relatively higher fat
  • unprocessed minimally processed fats and foodstuffs, meat, chicken, cheese etc
  • nutritous food high in fibre (i.e. low carb plant-foods)
  • no need for dietary glucose/sugar (we can make all we need from protein and fat)
  • oily fish for omega 3
  • avoid alcohol and refined carbs
  • full fat yogurt (with berries and seeds/nuts for breakfast)
  • lots of eggs
  • lots of leafy green veg and cruciferous veg
  • avoid grains - wheat, corn, rice, oats

Lots of detail about which chemicals benefitted or adversely affected the brain, but also benefits for blood sugaar, weight, and regulating hunger with some people "naturally reducing their main daily meals from 3 to 2".

It's not remarkable news, but I always find it reaffirming when yet another scientist can show the evidence for this woe. I think: "Yes @BIWI was right!" Only bit Dr Ede forgot to include was water! water! water!

MissBeckIsAtWork · 24/03/2025 13:37

@prettybird That picture is lovely! You look just like your handle! A pretty bird!! KOKO!!

CleanQueen123 · 24/03/2025 17:51

Day 1 of ubercamp and I'm shocked by how little 100g of something is. No wonder I'm not losing weight. My normal portion sizes are massive in comparison!
