Week 2 - Pre-Christmas '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the first weigh-in!

Morning all!

Here's the link to the spreadsheet

Hopefully you will have seen a good result on the scales (or with your measurements/clothes) in this first week. @CarbONothing is half a stone down, which is brilliant Flowers

If you haven't lost/much, don't be downhearted. If this is a new WOE for you, sometimes it can take a while for your body to work out what it's supposed to do.

I have noticed, though, that there's been a fair bit of 'laxness' (which is the word I shall use with some leniency Wink), and although all that may have been justified, just remember this is supposed to be the first, strict, part of Bootcamp!

Thank you for posting the chicken soup recipe @islandtiger /@islandbengal - it does sound delicious. I would, though, bother with the faffing around with the skin, as crispy chicken skin is totally gorgeous.

Anyway, here's to a good week for us all.

Morning ☕️ positive weigh in for me, -6lb! A challenging week coming up but planning as much as I can. And will definitely be reading that article, thanks @BIWI

Hope everyone has a good week

Rayna37 · 28/10/2024 09:10

Morning all! Thrilled with 2.6lbs off as my starting weight was fair, rather than a false high after lots of indulgence. Also coped well with quite a bit of eating out and time away from home. Next weekend harder as away again, lots of travelling and days out which make drinking (well, weeing!) harder and staying with people I don't know well.

If I lose just one lb each week for the rest of bootcamp I'd be utterly overjoyed.

CarbONothing · 28/10/2024 09:19

Given away half a stone and down to 18something pounds!
Very excited. I've also got into quite a routine with exercise. Swam already today, which then motivates me to keep a grip on the food and drink.
I have a few goals ahead, the all important hitting a new teen number, along with BMI, still in the obese zone at the moment and a few social things. Feeling motivated.

Magnolia82 · 28/10/2024 09:25

Morning all. Well done for the losses this week.

Reposting this as I put it on last week's thread...

I have gained a pound! (No idea why!) I did do quite a lot of exercise yesterday, so maybe water weight?

@SpinningTops - I hope you don't mind me asking, but looking at the spreadsheet, we're a similar weight. I just wondered: a) how tall you are and b) what your daily meals look like to help you lose weight?

Anyone else in a similar position (fairly short or not much to lose) have any other tips? (I think it's harder when we are short and don't have much to lose.)

BIWI · 28/10/2024 09:56

@Magnolia82 I know it's frustrating when weight goes up rather than down!

That said, you presumably don't have a lot of weight to lose, as you're only 120lbs now? I don't know how tall you are, but even if you're only 5ft nothing, your BMI would be 23, so well within the healthy range.

I'm exactly the same as last week. 202 lbs. Can't get the spreadsheet to open properly so if someone could add this for me, I'd be very grateful.

No excuses here - think I haven't been as careful as I should have been. Tbh I'm struggling with getting rid of all 'treats'. I eat when I'm sad and being fat makes me sad and then I eat! I did lose earlier in the week but it's gone a bit pear shaped the last couple of days.

Anyway, new week so starting again. There's literally nothing left in my house that's sweet apart from a jar of Nutella for dd, so I'm hopeful for a better week.

Best of luck everyone who is weighing in today.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 28/10/2024 10:03

Hurrumph, I was 3lbs down earlier in the week but today I’m only 1lb down on last Monday’s weight. I did do a small bit of cheating over the weekend because I was out competing with my dog all weekend, both days went on a lot longer than they should have done and so I did eat some carby foods because that’s all there was there. I also still can’t 💩 so that’s not helping.

TheOnlyMrsW · 28/10/2024 10:03

Well done on losses, I'm still up slightly on last week but am trusting the process as I know that if I keep on it works and I feel better. Lovely weekend, ended up with shop-bought coleslaw and celeriac/sweet potato/swede wedges for our outing on Friday but swerved the potato and rolls for the pulled pork part, and volunteered for driving to avoid alcohol. Super-indulgent dinner on Saturday - rib of beef with a sprout and cauliflower cheese bake, very rich but yummy!
Out for Indian yesterday for our anniversary - donated the samosa and onion bhaji part of the mixed starter to DH so I could have the lamb kofta and tandoori chicken, then shared a brilliant sizzling platter - DH got the rice and there were leftovers for his lunch today!
Today's plan is omelette for a late breakfast which should keep me going til much later and then I'm trying a new Jamie recipe with chicken thighs, sweetheart cabbage and gochujang in a traybake. He added rice noodles but I'll just add them to DH's bowl instead. Miserable here so herbal tea all the way this morning.
Hope everyone has a good day!!!!

I’m so pleased !

Even with Laxness creeping in , ( yes , twiglets , I’m looking at you ! ) I’ve lost 4 lb

I’ve already been to Bootcamp , I was so tempted to cancel it last night , but I’m glad I went
Had lovely fried eggs and mushrooms for breakfast , and planning on making soup ( the hanging round the bottom of the fridge variety ) for lunch
Aubergine Parmigiana for dinner , lots of water , and hopefully a walk this afternoon

Thankyou so much for organising this @BIWI and I’ll definitely read that article you’ve linked

Floralnomad · 28/10/2024 10:37

Well I’m 2 lbs down and considering all I’m fairly happy with that as I’ve felt quite unwell this week and have had to take more steroids ( I’m steroid dependent) than usual .

LadyMcLadyface · 28/10/2024 10:58

Urgh I had a great week then weekend came, kids stressed me out and I hit the biscuits 😭 so annoyed with myself as wasn't even hungry! I'm going to continue though as don't want to quit due to a blip. I started Tues last week so will weigh in tomorrow morning and report back 😬

Thinking about 'laxness', and bearing in mind that we're rapidly approaching the party season, this piece from The Diet Doctor makes interesting reading.

That article is great, a very quick read and very relevant! It's amazing how many people have said to me 'but cake is nice' or 'just a little bit won't hurt'. Tips for Politely asserting why we 'enjoy' not eating sugar at the moment is very helpful.

LadyMcLadyface · 28/10/2024 11:05

Meal plan for today (Bootcamp light as veggie+BF):

Greek yoghurt with nuts

Scrambled eggs, fried mushrooms

Tofu bowl with red cabbage, broccoli and sesame cucumber salad

Snacks: coffee with cream, cheese, nuts

biglongeyelashes · 28/10/2024 11:27

place marking. I'm 1lb down. Doesn't sound a lot but this is the lightest I have been since sept and since my operation which makes losing weight virtually impossible. I am doing v low carb, avoiding where I can. I am struggling to give up wine when out with friends .. and I am out 4 nights this week which means I also miss my exercises classes this week too. GULP

SpinningTops · 28/10/2024 11:36

@Magnolia82 - I replied on the other thread 😊.

I'm 1.2lb down which is a good start. Expect it to slow over the next few weeks but I'm happy with 0.5lb a week as only 5ft and just want to lose half a stone or so so my clothes fit again.

But a sickness bug has hit the family, and feel I might be the next to fall. If I do then I'll probably end up nibbling dry toast but I'm open to any low carb alternatives.

prettybird · 28/10/2024 12:20

I'm pleased to report that I've lost 3.5lb - down to 13st 3.5lb. Smile

A weeee bit disappointed as I was 13st 3.75lb on Friday but that's just me expecting/wanting too much Blush

NotDonna · 28/10/2024 12:21

Hands up here to the laxness! Good article BIWI My main downfall this last week hasn’t been carby food but wine! I’m going to give the Morgan’s Spuced Rum a try - I’m guessing it’s an alcohol free one?

Okaygoahead · 28/10/2024 12:31

One kilo down, but absolutely confess to laxness on a couple of occasions. Still, am pleased with reduced puffiness and a general ‘lighter’ feeling! Fewer social occasions this week, so it all should be easier to navigate.

costevo · 28/10/2024 12:57

Hi, I can’t see myself on the sheet anymore. Would I be line 23? Thanks

Kaninchen72 · 28/10/2024 13:58

Not much of a loss yet, but I am persevering. Today FFGY for breakfast, zucchini frittata with feta for lunch, and salad with buffalo mozzarella for dinner. And no wine.

Rayna37 · 28/10/2024 14:39

My Monday plan (office day)

30 min swim first thing
B: 2 boiled eggs, mid morning
L: salad (spinach, tomato, cucumber, celery, radish, with olive oil rather than actual dressing) with egg and cheese mayo, plus Greek yogurt
D: will be fish pie with a cauliflower topping. There are loads of recipe ideas for fish pie on the seafood recipe thread, mine includes eggs and leeks, salmon/smoked haddock/hake/prawns in a sauce of creme fraiche and cauliflower mash topping. I'll do a version for my son without the leeks and with mashed potato topping.

Well done to all those with losses and those trusting the process. KOKO! I am 3 lb down which I'm really pleased with!

The start of an October bootcamp is always difficult for me as my husband has his birthday and we do like our food so there are a few treats! Next weekend we are away to celebrate but the restaurants I've chosen are pretty LC friendly so I just need to mentally prepare myself and have a plan! I'll read that article, BIWI, there might be some tips!

LCagain · 28/10/2024 14:44

Well done everyone! Day 1 for me today and going well so far. Had forgotten how nice FFGY and cream is, even without all the things I normally add!

V helpful article as well thank you, lots of food for thought!

biglongeyelashes · 28/10/2024 15:12
