Week 2 - Pre-Christmas '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the first weigh-in!

Morning all!

Here's the link to the spreadsheet

Hopefully you will have seen a good result on the scales (or with your measurements/clothes) in this first week. @CarbONothing is half a stone down, which is brilliant Flowers

If you haven't lost/much, don't be downhearted. If this is a new WOE for you, sometimes it can take a while for your body to work out what it's supposed to do.

I have noticed, though, that there's been a fair bit of 'laxness' (which is the word I shall use with some leniency Wink), and although all that may have been justified, just remember this is supposed to be the first, strict, part of Bootcamp!

Thank you for posting the chicken soup recipe @islandtiger /@islandbengal - it does sound delicious. I would, though, bother with the faffing around with the skin, as crispy chicken skin is totally gorgeous.

Anyway, here's to a good week for us all.

@CleanQueen123

The stats. on total loss etc are worked out from Original Weight (col C) and Starting Weight (lbs) 21st October (col D).

I've 'fixed' yours by filling in those two columns with the figure you logged in 28th Oct week two (col H), so that now your loss shows as zero.

You are welcome to adjust what I've done, or tell me here on the tread or in a private message what they should be.

I hope that makes some kind of sense for you. It's a lot easier for me to do than try and explain. At work, we would share screens and I could explain as I go along. Not everyone on the threads is interested so I try to keep the long, boring explanations to a minimum but am v v happy to discuss at length off thread 😁

v v happy to indeed. Curiously, not absolutely everybody at work or in my home life would be that interested either.

Never been clear why 😁

Thank you. I believe my starting weight was 80.2. There or thereabouts.

ReconstructionSite · 29/10/2024 15:25

Also planning on cauliflower cheese tonight, with crispy chicken thighs and some griddled courgette, so will also try out @BIWI's recipe, thank you for sharing.

I've managed to persuade my husband to give this a go with me, so that's going to make things easier. Not so sure for the 7-year old who hates cheesy/creamy/buttery things, so I suspect a lot of his meals will be our meat main but with plain veg and a few potatoes or a flatbread on the side, so not too hard to accommodate 🤞

FinallyHere · 29/10/2024 17:38

@CleanQueen123 original weight updated.

Goodiewhemper · 29/10/2024 18:27

@NightNightvax Cloud bread is a bread substitute made with cream cheese and eggs. I find bread is what I struggle with most during boot camp and this hits the spot if I want a sandwich or burger or even with coffee in the morning. This recipe works well - just omit the nigella seeds.

Nightvax · 29/10/2024 18:31

Oooh lovely thank you @Goodiewhemper

haven’t felt too hungry today, have been keeping up with fluids

b - scrambled egg
l - chicken broth
d - Cajun chicken breast, cabbage and leek fried in butter with a small helping of creamy dressing (meant for pasta but just poured a spoonful over my veg - garlic, Parmesan, single cream, chicken stock, Cajun spice and some cream cheese)

did have a few olives late afternoon but usually I’d be reaching for the sugary snacks!

Goodiewhemper · 29/10/2024 18:40

BIWI · 29/10/2024 10:04

Thank you for posting this @Goodiewhemper

This is my best result ever on BC and it is because I stuck diligently to the rules.

Grin Flowers

I do keep telling people

It is true. Looking back on previous BCs I realise that my success was at times limited and it was because of the little cheats. Being honest with myself is the only way I will get to where I need to go.

Thank you to BIWI, Finally Here and Prettybird for all you do.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 29/10/2024 21:25

This recipe just popped up on FB and I’ll definitely give this one a try, obviously ignoring all the bits where it says reduced fat and substitute with full fat.

Weight 72.1kg today down from 73.7kg last week, so down 3.5 lbs. Going to make this dip later to have with salad/veg sticks:

The Photo of the dip looks delish but the recipe is behind a paywall sadly.

This looks so tasty! I will be making this. Thank you for sharing it.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 29/10/2024 22:09

@Pash01 it does look so good doesn’t it? I don’t think it will trigger a proposal in my household though 😂

SemmaLina · 29/10/2024 22:13

Back from a nice Indian meal with friends , I drove which made avoiding alcohol easy , we met at Wetherspoons for a drink where I had an alcohol free gin & slimline tonic ( not terribly impressed , but worth a try )
then off to the restaurant where I chose tandoori grilled half chicken on the bone which was served with salad and I had a side of spinach , not tempted by the naan or the rice though I will admit to a mouthful of popodum
They had alcohol free kingfisher which my friend ( also the driver ) was impressed with , I stuck to sparkling water

Topping up on water now , whilst watching Bake off
Strangely , I’m not really missing sweet stuff , I was hungry earlier and had a slice of cheddar

Off to peruse the recipe thread now , fancying pork chop with a creamy mushroom sauce and lots of greens tomorrow night

Ugh, starting weight added to spreadsheet. First time I've hit more than 10 stone, other than pregnancy, so getting below that is the first mini goal (I am 5ft4 with a petite frame, extra weight just doesn't sit well at all on me at all).

Plan for the day:

B - asparagus frittata
L - chicken and bacon salad
D - cottage pie with cauli mash, lots of green veg on the side

50by40 · 30/10/2024 08:35

That halloumi recipe looks delicious, thanks for sharing.

Struggling this week with a horrible period, and juggling DC, including littlest settling at nursery, visiting parents and DH is away. Trying to KOKO the best I can and have done some meal planning for next week.

Off to learn how to carve a pumpkin as DH was supposed to do it at the weekend but didn't get round to it....any tips anyone?!

alwaysonadiet1 · 30/10/2024 09:32

@50by40 Have you bought a carving kit from the supermarket? They make it a bit easier. If using a knife be careful it's easy to slip. The time consuming bit is scraping out all the seeds. The carving bit is fun! You can Google printable jack o lantern stencils to follow. 🎃

CornflowerBlueSky · 30/10/2024 09:50

Hello. Is it possible to still join? I haven't ever done low carb strictly before, I did look into keto, but the need to count grams of carbs just overwhelmed me, but this plan seems doable. Starting out at 11st11lbs.

ReconstructionSite · 30/10/2024 09:52

@50by40 once you have carved it, if you put a thin layer of Vaseline on the carved edges, it helps stop the pumpkin drying out and collapsing too soon

50by40 · 30/10/2024 13:11

@alwaysonadiet1 I didn't even know they sold those! Just went at it with a knife haha. @ReconstructionSite thanks for the vaseline tip, will dig some out of the depths of a handbag.

Think it is reasonable enough for a first try! Hes got character at least...(DDs pen marks will be tidied up before he is put outside)

NoCarbsForMe · 30/10/2024 13:16

Hello 👋
Wondering if I can join too please?
I've been told that I'm insulin resistant and need to totally cut out carbs for a few weeks.
Are there some rules I need to read?
Thanks 🙏

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/10/2024 13:31

Hello lovelies. I'm not formally joining Bootcamp. But I did want to pop in and say that thanks to @BIWI and the other wonderful women on here, I've been plodding along, with my FLGV and adding fat to everything Grin I'm the thinnest I've been for at least 4 years. This morning I weigh less than 4 years ago so it could be even more time.

My skin's great, I don't get IBS or migraines almost at all, no bloating and it's easy once you're in the groove.

Thanks so much, it's been genuinely life-changing.

BIWI · 30/10/2024 13:34

Thank you @MrsTerryPratchett - that's very kind of you to come here and say!

@NoCarbsForMe you're very welcome Flowers

Have a good read of the prep thread as well as the introduction to the week 1 thread. Check out the rules, which are on the spreadsheet.

But obviously, any questions, just ask here.

Brilliant thank you @BIWI ☺️

Pleaseandthankyou · 30/10/2024 13:58

Also popping on to say this definitely works. I try to stay lowish carb but had been ill and have overindulged in bread for a few weeks. A few days back on plan and my stomach is much flatter. New high waist jeans are loose at the waist. Unfortunately it won’t work if you eat cake.

Rayna37 · 30/10/2024 14:02

Same old breakfast and lunch yesterday and for dinner I was pleasing myself so cleared out some Brussels, a leek and some bacon bits from the fridge to sauté with butter, served with a sprinkling of Parmesan.

Today:
30 min swim
B: one egg and a babybel about 10:15
L: tuna mayo salad, Greek Style yogurt
D: out tonight but looks like there are some nice game options, can swap the main carbs for extra veg hopefully.
