Morning all!

Here's the link to the spreadsheet

Hopefully you will have seen a good result on the scales (or with your measurements/clothes) in this first week. @CarbONothing is half a stone down, which is brilliant Flowers

If you haven't lost/much, don't be downhearted. If this is a new WOE for you, sometimes it can take a while for your body to work out what it's supposed to do.

I have noticed, though, that there's been a fair bit of 'laxness' (which is the word I shall use with some leniency Wink), and although all that may have been justified, just remember this is supposed to be the first, strict, part of Bootcamp!

Thank you for posting the chicken soup recipe @islandtiger /@islandbengal - it does sound delicious. I would, though, bother with the faffing around with the skin, as crispy chicken skin is totally gorgeous.

Anyway, here's to a good week for us all.

@CarbONothing

for the sake of politeness,.modelling good behaviour and being a good sport I've eaten a whole bloody scone

But why? Was that being a good sport for you? And, frankly, why is it modelling good behaviour to eat something you know isn't going to help you?

I know it's hard in social situations - and obviously it does depend who you were with! - but what would have been wrong about saying that you aren't currently eating carbs? If you don't want to frame it as a diet thing, then talk about it being a health issue - i.e. need to cut down on sugar, diabetes risk, inflammation, etc, etc

Sorry to hear you're poorly @SpinningTops - keep up the water, and also try to keep your electrolytes up as well. So sodium, magnesium and potassium.

If toast is all you can manage, then don't worry. If you can cope with it with Marmite on, that will also help you.

... and hope you're feeling better soon, @SemmaLina

I had my Covid jab last week, which was fine, thankfully. And then my flu jab yesterday, which I was more concerned about as I'd heard more scare stories about side effects. But beyond a feeling of slight bruising in my arm, all has been fine.

Hopefully you'll be feeling much better tomorrow Flowers

This reason doesn't crop up very often. Distracting a teenage girl, filling time, in a rural area where even the dog was begging for the incessant walks to stop. 😂
Won't happen again!

@CarbONothing I really related to your phrase about feeling alive these last few days. I've been reading some of @BIWI links to the Diet Doctor etc and realise that eating low carb could really become a way of life. I always did feel rubbish when I ate a sandwich or a bacon roll ( or a scone!) but do love a poached egg on toast. And as for croissant. Still, it's a choice and now I know what my body likes I can make more informed choices. As long as I'm organised! Travelling is my downfall and it all goes to pieces when looking after DM. I'm learning so much from everyone on these threads. I've been swimming the last couple of days ( my energy levels are much improved) so breakfast afterwards has been coffee with a mushroom omelette. Lunch was the yummy Ottolenghi asparagus and tomato soup. I thought I'd posted it on the veg recipe thread but can't find it so I'll post again tomorrow. Yesterday's supper was steak and mange tout and tonight was lambs liver with cauliflower rice and asparagus. I've got a challenge coming up at the weekend. Cooking lunch for friends on Saturday to celebrate her new job. I really really really want a glass of fizz. Hoping that could be permitted Wink

@FinallyHere that's really interesting about the Ibody scales. Heading to my gym today. Will ask if they have one!

FinallyHere · 01/11/2024 08:42

Fingers crossed @NoCarbsForMe

@Fairnair I have chilli (or tacos or fajitas) on a bowl of shredded lettuce. Top with grated cheese and sour cream.

Just navigated a cinema trip successfully but it was my first mental wobble of feeling a bit "deprived". It's crazy how much specific locations/events are tied up with specific foods. It didn't help that my son was snacking on some of his trick or treat haul! But I suppose new virtuous level unlocked - snacking on celery with a little Philadelphia pot whilst Haribo are being consumed left right and centre 😂

How's everyone dealing with "wisdom" from other people? My manager piped up yesterday that I didn't need to low carb to lose weight. Apparently I don't really need protein, I need to eat carbs and do 8000 steps a day, then the weight will drop off 🤨 she's usually a very sensible woman!

Downloaded that! Free and really easy to absorb info. Thank you @BIWI. Doubt if I'll need the meal plans, this thread gives me the best ideas as it is. DH is cooking up a prawn curry for dinner tonight. We'll have the konjac 'rice' with it. Lunch was avocado and burrata, with avocado oil and chilli flakes. A 10 has started flashing fleetingly onto the scales. Some months since I saw that! Aiming for it to hold steady for Monday. Weekends can be a danger zone so good luck everyone.

That sounds like an attempt at sabotage to me. As long as you feel better that's the main thing. I'd be tempted to plan for a showing off a new 'smaller' item of clothing in a few weeks !

Well clearly she isn't a wise woman!

Have you read any of the resources on the spreadsheet about low carbing? You need to be able to argue against this. And you can only do that if you know enough about low carbing and how it works.

You don't need as many carbs as people will argue that you do, and you don't need to do exercise to lose weight.

Ask her where she's getting her 'knowledge' from!

But, if you don't feel confident enough to do any of that, just thank her for her words of 'wisdom' and then ignore her.

Had lunch with my mum today. Lots of diet advice to unpick there plus her baggage from the past.
I do remember her on the F plan diet - eat lots of fibre?
Special K for breakfast, I think that was heavily advertised as a healthy diet start to the day.
It's no wonder, as a nation, dietary advice is a tough gig.

I went for a disappointing chicken salad at a Cosy Club. They did that hideous trick of what style of chips to everyone, then surcharged. Not impressed. Not been for at least a year and it all felt a bit off.

NoCarbsForMe · 01/11/2024 19:38

Day 3 of low carbing.

B tea / coffee w cream... 2 boiled eggs, Padron peppers & cauldron veggie sausage.

L greek yog / A few blueberries / teaspoon of macca

D Had made a roast for the family today and completely ignored the rost potatoes, I'm proud to say!
I ate grilled miso salmon, some cavolo nero and the brilliant LC cauliflower, broccoli, leek cheese recipe from the recipe thread.
Delish!

Off to have some herby tea now.
I'm down three lbs, but then I usually fluctuate up and down between three lbs so am excited to see if it will be different this time!

Completely forgot to ask about the body fat scales! Will ask next time 🙄

BIWI · 01/11/2024 19:40

Erm - why are you eating blueberries @NoCarbsForMe?! The first two weeks of Bootcamp, fruit isn't allowed.

I've been low carbing on and off for years so know how it works. On this occasion I went for the "smile and ignore" approach. It was a very odd exchange with someone who I would generally consider to be quite knowledgeable.

There are some great tips and recipes on the freshwell app thanks @BIWI
Just wanted to check as some of the recipes call for gram flour or chickpeas but I thoughT these were higher in carb count, are they actually allowed (or is the app using them as they are lower carb than alternatives?)

BIWI · 02/11/2024 08:06

Different plans allow for different levels of carbs @Nightvax - but yes, I'd guess they're using them in place of higher carb elements

On Bootcamp, of course, they're not allowed!
