Week 2 - Pre-Christmas '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the first weigh-in!

Morning all!

Here's the link to the spreadsheet

Hopefully you will have seen a good result on the scales (or with your measurements/clothes) in this first week. @CarbONothing is half a stone down, which is brilliant Flowers

If you haven't lost/much, don't be downhearted. If this is a new WOE for you, sometimes it can take a while for your body to work out what it's supposed to do.

I have noticed, though, that there's been a fair bit of 'laxness' (which is the word I shall use with some leniency Wink), and although all that may have been justified, just remember this is supposed to be the first, strict, part of Bootcamp!

Thank you for posting the chicken soup recipe @islandtiger /@islandbengal - it does sound delicious. I would, though, bother with the faffing around with the skin, as crispy chicken skin is totally gorgeous.

Anyway, here's to a good week for us all.

Good morning everyone. It is so inspiring to see all of the great results this week.I weighed in yesterday and was down 4.1lbs from the previous week. This is my best result ever on BC and it is because I stuck diligently to the rules. I might just hit my target this time! 😁

My breakfast all week will be my usual green shake of spinach, cucumber, avocado and mint in a no sugar plant milk, followed by a boiled egg.

Lunch time soup this week is fennel, celery, zucchini, green pepper and leek roasted and then blended with veg stock, dill and a good dollop of sour cream. I made the beefburger pie from last week's thread so I will have that with my soup today and tomorrow and then either tuna or mackerel salad for the rest of the week.

Dinner this evening will be some of last nights left over butter basted turkey breast with skin served with buttered cavolo nero.

I made cloud bread on Sunday so I have that on the fridge for those moments when I feel the need for a bread like snack with cheese or ham. Bread is always the hardest thing for me on the first two weeks.

I have just had my coffee with cream in bed and am trying to motivate myself to get up and ready for work. Have a great day everyone.

CleanQueen123 · 29/10/2024 07:05

I think I've broken the spreadsheet 🙈 I put this week's weight in column H but it's definitely not showing the right things in the rest of the columns now. Could someone have a look please?

NotDonna · 29/10/2024 07:44

@CleanQueen123 it all looks ok to me.

SemmaLina · 29/10/2024 08:15

I bought this salt when on holiday in Majorca , it’s lovely !
I’m putting a pinch on top of pretty much everything
Photo a bit dodgy , but it’s called Flor de Sal rose

@CleanQueen123 it all looks ok to me.

When I look at it it's showing everything as -79.5 rather than calculating the actual weight loss and percentage so far. How odd.

FinallyHere · 29/10/2024 08:54

@CleanQueen123

The stats. on total loss etc are worked out from Original Weight (col C) and Starting Weight (lbs) 21st October (col D).

I've 'fixed' yours by filling in those two columns with the figure you logged in 28th Oct week two (col H), so that now your loss shows as zero.

You are welcome to adjust what I've done, or tell me here on the tread or in a private message what they should be.

I hope that makes some kind of sense for you. It's a lot easier for me to do than try and explain. At work, we would share screens and I could explain as I go along. Not everyone on the threads is interested so I try to keep the long, boring explanations to a minimum but am v v happy to discuss at length off thread 😁

v v happy to indeed. Curiously, not absolutely everybody at work or in my home life would be that interested either.

Never been clear why 😁

@Rayna37 @Magnolia82 @SpinningTops

Glad to find some fellow 5' 3' and under boot campers.

I've been in the healthy BMI range for some time and am happy to drift down v slowly hoping to settle mid range so I'd have some flexibility. So far, though, I find that I feel so much better eating high fat low carb and am so glad to be off the high carb glucose rollercoaster that I suspect that (in my mid sixties) this is now me for life.

ReconstructionSite · 29/10/2024 09:06

I am starting as of today, I'll add my weigh in to the spreadsheet later on today. It is really inspiring to have seen all the Week 1 losses, so I'm hoping that will help keep me on the straight and narrow this week.

I've started the day with two glasses of water and egg, bacon, avocado and some buttery mushrooms. Lovely stuff! Planning to hit a posh deli counter on our way out of the Lake District for some cheese and meats to nibble on if needed, or for lunch when we finally get home (if it lasts that long).

Nightvax · 29/10/2024 09:45

I am only on day 3 and haven’t stopped weeimg but I have lost just under 4lbs already 😅
I have a lot to lose though, this is the heaviest I’ve ever been, I need to get to 176lbs to get out of the obese bmi category so even if I only lose a 1lb or 2 a week I’ll be pleased

@Goodiewhemper what is cloud bread? Sounds interesting!

Nightvax · 29/10/2024 09:47

Should add I am tracking my weight daily this week just to see how I go so I know by the end of the week the average may end up being lower than 4lb, especially as I’m due my period, but it’s really motivating to see the scales moving in the right direction!

BIWI · 29/10/2024 10:04

Thank you for posting this @Goodiewhemper

I do keep telling people

An interesting new product/service from The Diet Doctor:

https://www.dietdoctor.com/the-future-of-diet-doctor-and-announcing-hava

Focusing on satiety (through the lens of low carbing, I think), with an app that can instantly tell you how well your food/meal scores

It will be a paid-for service ultimately but they're currently offering 30 days' trial for free.

The future of Diet Doctor and announcing Hava – Diet Doctor

Food plan for today:
B: scrambled eggs with creamy coffee
L: crustless quiche (although I haven't decided what's going in it yet!)
D: chicken thigh casserole with cabbage on the side

That's fascinating reading. I'd be interested in this kind of thing for maintenance, I think. Still a fair bit to go until my target weight though so I'll happily stay here for the foreseeable 🤣

Weight 72.1kg today down from 73.7kg last week, so down 3.5 lbs. Going to make this dip later to have with salad/veg sticks:

Bex5490 · 29/10/2024 11:01

Hi all! Just over 3lb down this week which I'm happy about!

I did forget that for the 1st week of no carbing my mouth tastes terrible...feels just like the metallic taste I had during both pregnancies. But definitely worth it as my gut feels 100% healthier!

Does anyone have a good low carb bechamel or cheese sauce recipe? Should I just opt for low carb flour or does anyone have a good replacement? Specifically thinking cauliflower cheese.

BIWI · 29/10/2024 11:13

300ml double cream
as much grated extra mature cheddar as you like
juice of half a lemon
freshly ground black pepper

Heat the cream till it reaches simmering point, then add the cheese and stir till it melts. Add the lemon juice and season with black pepper

Easy peasy.

It won't be thick, as if you'd used flour, but this amount of sauce is enough to coat the florets from a whole cauliflower.

Rayna37 · 29/10/2024 12:15

I do similar to BIWI but often using creme fraiche instead of double cream, and include some wholegrain mustard. Steaming the leaves/stalky bits etc separately and whizzing them into the sauce using a stick blender adds to the bulk and texture too.

TheOnlyMrsW · 29/10/2024 13:01

Improvised without gochujang last night - mixed olive oil, harissa paste and a small squeeze of sriracha together with garlic and ginger paste and tasted lovely, probably not very authentic but the cabbage was really tender and a nice hit of spice. Office day today and I've treated myself to a Pret chilli chicken broth for lunch, 4g carbs per 100ml which sounded ok, will have my normal brunch omelette for dinner later with avocado. Lots of herbal tea again, weight is very up and down but heading downwards on average so will koko

Thank you wise one!

I was really tempted by the full flour one this Sunday but stayed strong...Will definitely add this to the carbless roast next weekend.

prettybird · 29/10/2024 14:00

Dh and I had BIWI's cauliflower cheese on Saturday night. It's truly scrummy Smile

I add a teaspoon of grain mustard to the cheesy cream mixture plus addd extra cheese on top before grilling it.

BIWI · 29/10/2024 14:09

Oh yes. Definitely more cheese on top. It's the law.

The above messages illustrate exactly why I love this WOE!! 😋

Don't know why I keep letting carbs lure me back. Not this time!
