May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Final weigh-in and ongoing chat

Morning all Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet for its final outing although that said, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added extra columns for anyone who wants to keep using it

I hope that all has gone well - and I notice that we have at least 2 Bootcampers who have reached/exceeded the 1 stone mark, which is fantastic!

Just because we've reached the end of the 8 weeks doesn't mean that you have to stop - or stop chatting. We'll keep this thread going for as long as people want to use it, and I'll start a new one once this one gets full.

Well I haven't weighed myself this morning because I've been poorly since Saturday night! Woke up shivering and my legs were aching terribly and I spent all day yesterday in bed! Head ache, ear ache, leg ache, no appetite and naucious. Haven't been to work today. 😒
Felt a bit like when I had Covid to be honest, but the fluid has all evaporated in my test kits so can't do a test.
Having a quick ciggie then going back upstairs to lie down.

Lougle · 12/08/2024 18:46

I weighed myself and I'm 1.8lb down. I'm ready to maintain now, really, so I'm introducing the odd carb food here and there. Today I did a roast dinner for DD2's birthday and I ate carrots and a couple of roasties. I generally plan to stay low carb, but the odd indulgence won't kill me.

MissBeck · 12/08/2024 20:36

Just did a quick weigh in as I didn't do it this morning and I've stayed the same. I would say I'm surprised at that after my holiday food antics, but I've barely eaten since Friday afternoon due to feeling so poorly so it's probably about right. 😞

DrBlackbird · 12/08/2024 23:26

As I have had a couple of carb slip ups I’m happy enough with .5ib loss this week. Overall, I’m not eating as much and eating better. Obviously I want to KOKO and get to the next milestone but I feel more committed to do so.

alwaysonadiet1 · 12/08/2024 23:33

@MissBeck Get well soon. I'm just getting over Covid. It knocked the stuffing out of me this time round. I'm much better now and another pound down. 😘

NotDonna · 12/08/2024 23:48

Oh no @MissBeck do hope you recover quickly. Well done @Lougle - I’m rather envious but know I just need to keep plugging away!
Ugh I was 151 this morning so still the blinking same - I was 150.4 one day this week but really thought I’d be 150 by now. It’s making me realise the next 10lbs may not be so easy. Sadly. But koko.

Baystard · 13/08/2024 09:20

Hope you feel better soon @MissBeck and get the chance to rest a bit, sleep is an underrated remedy (as well as being sadly incompatible with modern life!).

I'm not quite managing to stick to very strict BC every single day but I feel like I've still had a useful reset.

Leftover smoked haddock gratin for supper today, fish poached in a little milk and the milk added back into the LC cheese sauce. Is delicious and very filling and goes really well with green veggies. I had some half-price smoked haddock in the freezer. I will add a couple of quartered hardboiled eggs before I heat it up as last night we ate a bit more than half of the fish.

TheOnlyMrsW · 13/08/2024 09:57

Back and the heaviest I've been all year in and out of bootcamp! Omelette with spinach, peppers and onion for breakfast and fish pie for tea with cauli mash topping and broccoli, weather is being kind so sparkling water all day...........
Results on Thursday so will do my best to stay sober this week but have a feeling it might be a challenge! After that though DD and DH are away this weekend doing various things so I have a full 36 hours to myself and planning a long fast to boost things (including a massive tidy of the house and a clearout while I have the time and space!)
@MissBeck gws, there does seem to be a lot of Covid and other things about at the moment which are knocking people sideways Flowers

MissBeck · 13/08/2024 17:08

Thank you all. Feeling a little better this afternoon.

@alwaysonadiet1 I'm not sure if it is Covid, but it certainly isn't normal! 😂

@NotDonna I know exactly how you feel. For 6 months it was coming off nice and steady but last couple of months have been slug mode!

@Baystard I pretty much slept all day yesterday, but then couldn't sleep at night. Laying off the naps today because I'm hoping to go back to work tomorrow!

@TheOnlyMrsW Hopefully your fast boost does the trick.

Well I've had to force myself to eat today even though my taste is fecked and did prawn cocktail (no salad) for lunch, and just done a small pork fillet with brocolli, cauli and mushrooms for dinner. Didn't enjoy any of it as I can't taste it and I just have a weird aftertaste in my mouth! 😂So I've nourished my body anyway. Water hasn't gone to well either as again, my taste buds are broke! 🤐

Lougle · 13/08/2024 17:10

@alwaysonadiet1 sorry you're in the COVID fog. I hope it passes soon.

@NotDonna Koko! I'm finding my taste buds have completely changed since going low carb.

MissBeck · 13/08/2024 17:19

@Lougle DID YOU STEAL MY TASTE BUDS!! 😭😭

😂😂

Ha! It's possible.

Afternoonteavirgin · 13/08/2024 17:42

Well I am back. I survived 4 days in a field full of big hairy metal heads Smile
It was fabulous actually, such fun, lovely people and an absolutely phenomenal atmosphere. DP enjoyed it immensely despite being a dance music fan!

Highly recommended. The walk from the car park to the campsite (if you're camping) is a bit problematic if you're not super-fit so make sure you take a trolley and travel as light as you can we didn't I have been going since 2008 so knew what to expect anyway. Without a trolley, there is a minibus that is helpful and you can make more than one trip, just a bit of a pain.

I absolutely did not low-carb, at all Grin I had wraps DP had made, then a jacket potato the first day (spud man, you are awesome), a pot noodle at the tent the following day, pizza twice, a burger and enough cider to have the NHS thinking I am a full blown alcoholic.

But that's that for this year and I had an amazing time with my friends so never mind.

I wasn't quite ready for 'out of the party' mode yesterday so we got home, showered, unpacked, put a wash on and went to the pub for yet another high carb dinner and wine.

But I have weighed myself this morning and I am still a good few lbs down from starting and I will stay on low carb now with the odd 'day off'.

Today has been about tofu salad with mayo and sesame oil, one poppadum as a snack and dinner will be similar.

UnOeufIsEnough · 13/08/2024 20:37

@Lougle congrats on reaching maintenance! That's got to be a great feeling!

I'm continuing to low carb but there's definitely more carb creep...nicked a few chips from DD's plate yesterday and last week I had a pizza. Tasted great but the subsequent bloat was not worth it.

Kids are back to school tomorrow so hoping the increased headspace will help get my head back in the game!

MissBeck · 15/08/2024 20:56

Evening all. Sorry for not being very chatty. Still not 100% but what is bugging me the most is my loss of taste! Everything tastes crap! I'm still not eating properly anyway, but what I do eat is disgusting. I LOVE food, but I can't enjoy it at the moment. 😭

Lougle · 15/08/2024 22:52

Sorry your taste buds are no good @MissBeck . I've had two interesting experiences over the last few days. On Tuesday I went out with DH for the morning. He fancied a cream tea. I've stopped the gluten free diet (it didn't have any impact on my migraines in 5 months), and I've always adored cream teas, so I thought I'd join him. I did eat it, but I felt quite sick afterwards and didn't really enjoy it.

Today, we had a rare day in town because we had a dentist appointment. DH decided to treat the girls with a visit to a gelato bar. I looked at the menu and I just saw 'hideously sweet processed rubbish'. I couldn't find one thing that appealed to me, so I didn't have any. Normally, I'd give in (never been a massive sweet treat eater), order the thing that looked most appealing, then eat it out of obligation because I'd spent money on it.

FinallyHere · 16/08/2024 22:31

Hello lovely people, after months of registering a monthly loss of some 200g, less than a small glass of water, this month has registered one kilo down.

It feels like such a result.

Try as I might to focus on this way of eating and let the weight sort its self out, I must confess that it quite lifted my gear to see two pounds down.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I'm off to 'Rewind' my first ever music festival so please wish me luck, or even guaranteed survival would work for me right now

TheOnlyMrsW · 17/08/2024 13:46

@Afternoonteavirgin glad you had a good weekend, early bird and vip for next year sold out within minutes apparently!!!
Somehow this week I've lost 5.5lb which is unheard of for me, stress will do that to you 🤦‍♀️. However DD is largely sorted now, and in exactly 5 weeks we'll be dropping her off and then working out what life looks like!!!!
@MissBeck hopefully you're feeling better now and appetite getting back to normal 🤞
@FinallyHere is Rewind the 80's one? Enjoy!!!!

NotDonna · 17/08/2024 15:28

@TheOnlyMrsW so pleased your DD is sorted now. Waiting for DDs results last year was more stressful than waiting for my own. And I did much much worse than her!

I was 150.4 this morning. We are away tomorrow for a week so won’t be weighing and although I’ll try to be pretty strict as I’d really like to lose another 10lb; I’m thinking if I can maintain 150ish I’ll be blooming delighted.

MissBeck · 18/08/2024 12:32

@Lougle Isn't it strange that things we would have enjoyed previously no longer have their appeal!

@FinallyHere Great news!! Hope you enjoyed your festival!

@TheOnlyMrsW 5.5lbs loss is brilliant!!! Well done you!!

@NotDonna Hope you have a lovely week away!

I'm still in the land of no taste buds and no appetite so not even bothering with LCing at the moment. My goal is just getting stuff into my body until I feel better to be honest. Then it will be the great reset! 😂

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/08/2024 10:57

@NotDonna you're right about the stress, DD did much better than I did but it seems to be so much more pressured now, hope you have a great week away.

Hoping that the hive mind will be able to help with festival choices this week........we're volunteering for the first time which means that the food vendors won't be around until Friday and we're going Wednesday night. Our lovely friends are saving us a camping spot near them and BBQ-ing when we get there so we'll have burgers, sausages which I can manage to make LC-friendly and my plan was to cook curry for Thursday evening and freeze it, that way it will still be cool by Thursday night. My question is around omelettes - can they freeze so I can do the same thing for breakfast Thursday morning? We have access to microwaves and kettle etc but no fridge apart from our own coolbox and freezing in advance will be better than fridge cold and ice packs............

Thank you-yes it was SO much busier than usual this year! I preferred it when it wasn't as popular Grin but I am so so happy that it has got as big as it has.

They're lovely people who organise it-it is a family-ran business. MOST people who go are great, I think unlike some other festivals it is about the music and the people, some other festivals appear to be all about getting inebriated, much as I love a drink, bloodstock isn't like that at all and most people are lovely.
I say most, one year my friend was assaulted fairly badly by a bloke there.

She is a prison officer and can handle herself, wasn't so bothered about it but I encouraged her to report it and she eventually did. Adam (the organiser) had us backstage to explain what had happened and he was absolutely livid. Said we had to lead the security to this bloke, which we did and they chucked him straight out. He said he didn't want people like that at his festival at all.
I'll keep going until I need a zimmer frame Grin but yes, back on track now, it isn't conducive to being healthy and I am glad it is only once a year for that reason!

Lougle · 19/08/2024 16:51

@FinallyHere 1kg is amazing, well done!

@MissBeck it really is odd.

@TheOnlyMrsW wow, well done, despite the circumstances.

@NotDonna have a great time away.

Well I'm quite surprised to see a 2lb drop this week. I've had a cream tea, had an all day breakfast with chips (not my choice - DD1 chose a lunch venue and it was the least bad option), and had a bread roll with my soup last night. I think it's just a matter of drinking all the water and overall calorie deficit.

Thistle72 · 20/08/2024 07:07

Morning, I’ve been reading from a far this last week. I’m menopausal so would love to try bootcamp to see if it would help with losing a little weight and generally feeling better. Can someone tell me when the next intake is please?
