Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 2 - how did you get on?!

BIWI · 15/01/2023 23:00

Evening all! I'm posting the week 2 chat thread this evening, as I know how keen everyone will be to post tomorrow. As I'm retired now, I no longer have to set an alarm to wake up, so I don't want to keep everyone waiting tomorrow morning to post.

I love this week. It's when we see how much people have lost, and it can be a significant amount. It can be a real leap of faith for anyone who hasn't low carbed before, and all those who really don't believe you can eat that much fat and still lose weight!

I'm really hoping that you've all had a good first week, and that your commitment 'to the cause' has been rewarded with a good result - be that on the scales, with your tape measure, or the currently-too-tight clothes that you've been trying on.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope very much that you've had a good first week, and that you're feeling supermotivated for the rest of Bootcamp.

However - if you haven't lost, or you have even gained, please don't be downhearted. We're all different, and there may be lots of reasons why this is the case for you. It's also really important to note that it's not a competition. We all lose at different rates - plus, anyone who is bigger will lose more/faster than someone who is smaller.

Hopefully there are other benefits to this WOE that will keep you on track - at the very least, I hope that you have been enjoying the food, and that you don't feel deprived, like you would be on a low calorie/fat diet.

Morning all and thanks @BIWI!

I'm weighing tomorrow but I'm not expecting a huge loss as it's actually nearing the end of my second week. I started on 5 Jan and had no scales or tape measure so no idea what my actual starting weight was!

Weighing tomorrow as I weighed last Tuesday and also no gym as nursing poorly puppy.

Has completely kept on plan other than one gNt and 1/2 a sweetener in my tea last night at bedtime as my son made it for me - RARE TREAT - and didn't realise. I was already in bed so just drank it anyway. Did taste a bit too sweet but I'm still not keen on tea without it so drinking so much was of it!

Meal planned for this week as half just me and half with son. Not waking hungry so having breakfast later than usual, lunch later and dinner normal time.

Just going to hunt for a beef curry recipe as saw someone mention it and now I need it 🤣

Have a great day and looking forward to seeing all your losses 🙌🏼

Morning everyone. Yes thanks @BIWI and team for this - I’m so grateful for the time and effort put in to run these groups.

Happy with a 6 pound loss this week, despite a few slips off the wagon! I’ve lost taste and smell with Covid but just ate boot camp normally ( no extreme loss of appetite with illness just the usual low carb stableness of hunger if that makes sense)

B: almond milk coffee
L: Greek yoghurt with cream and cinnamon
D: egg fried cauli rice with prawns, green beans, green pepper and baby corn

Snack - salted celery with cheddar

SpottyBumPony · 16/01/2023 08:32

Happy Week 2 Everybody!

Im weighing on Sundays as i lwave for work at 7.30 in the week. 2lb loss which I am pleased with but had hoped for a bit more on week one. I started my period on Saturday though so that might be affecting things.

Plan for today is
G Yog
Tabbouleh style salad (no grains, generous helping of olive oil) sliced chicken and parmesan crisps
Turkey budget with dirty celeriac fries and salad

Mercedesbenz2022 · 16/01/2023 08:54

Quick update
3.4 lb off 😃
lunch home made quiche and homemade mushroom soup

well done everyone koko

amigababy · 16/01/2023 09:00

Can't weigh in until Wednesday morning (need to go buy some batteries for the scales and shopping day is tomorrow)

But I'm still hanging in there, well done to everyone so far this week.

(really looking forward to shopping, we're running out of all the nice food)

venusandmars · 16/01/2023 09:06

1.5lb down for me. Good to see some nice losses for others - that never seems to happen for me! For those who also lose slowly, don't get downhearted, this is a long term sustainable way of eating.

B - avocado, ham, cheese
L - chicken and vegetable soup
D - chicken thighs FLGV with butter

Bigteamug · 16/01/2023 09:10

Just a pound off for me which I'm not too discouraged about as my clothes are a bit less tight and my face has slimmed down. Hoping for more next week though.

sheepdreams · 16/01/2023 09:19

Well done on all the losses and thank you to Biwi and team also for spurring us on and lots of advice. Will post more this week as work not as manic. 4 pounds down for me. I won’t be weighing again for another 2 weeks. Still have to fight the high fat is bad for you demons despite reading a wealth of information about boot camp woe! Enjoying food immensely though! Must keep drinking more water though not great at this.

meals for today

Br: left over ckn and avocado
lu: h made low carb broccoli and Stilton soup.
dinner: not sure yet🤔

hope everyone has a great week.

LittleMy77 · 16/01/2023 09:23

4.5 lbs down; fully expecting this to plateau this week, as that's probably the equivalent to all the Christmas chocolate I ate over the festive period! Am aiming for next two weeks to get me to a pretty stable place, I have a week of birthdays and then travel after that which makes it a bit trickier to navigate

StuntNun · 16/01/2023 09:39

@DontGetEvenGetEverything it's the polyunsaturated fats (vegetable oils such as corn oil) that are associated with inflammation. Mainly monounsaturated fats (olive oil, avocado oil, nut oils) and saturated fats (lard, butter, dripping, coconut oil) shouldn't give you any inflammation. It can take inflammation a long time to subside though so you may just need to wait it out. Make sure you get some fermented foods (live yogurt, kefir, kimchi, brined pickles etc.) to help your gut heal.

OldandTired66 · 16/01/2023 09:41

Very happy with 4lbs off in week 1. I'm amazed at how few snacks I've needed compared to my pre bootcamp habits. Usually just one around 4-5pm as we don't eat til 7ish. Hoping to get more exercise in this week as it seems to have finally stopped raining.
B: Boiled egg with a knob of butter and a sliver of cheese
L: Frozen left-over stew with veg
D: Salmon with buttery steamed veg and grated cheese
Snack usually cheese and olives if I need one.
Water, water, water. My downfall.

Skiphopbump · 16/01/2023 09:46

5.6lbs off so I’m now the same as the lowest weight I was after last bootcamp finished.
Next mini goal is to lose 0.5lbs so I’m in the next stone bracket - should be achieved by next week!

Merchdda · 16/01/2023 09:51

Morning everyone

Great to see the losses.

Sadly, I've only lost just under 1lb. Disappointed as I have stuck to BC rules, and earlier in the week I'd lost 2.5lbs so somehow managed to gain 1.5lbs in 2-3 days. I'm hoping it will even out again in the next day or so.

In the meantime I am going to eliminate cheese from my diet as the only thing I can pinpoint as having a negative impact is the two cheese platters I had on Friday night and last night.

Anyone else who hasn't lost big numbers, don't be disheartened just double down and trust in the process.

Stokey · 16/01/2023 09:51

Thanks for the new thread @BIWI and the very clear fat explanation @StuntNun

I'm very pleased with a 3lb loss this week as transgressed on white wine on Friday night. But was proud of myself for staying on track yesterday despite temptation at a non-lc friendly pub lunch. Brilliant to see everyone getting concrete results, and some amazing losses.

B: Greek yogurt and cream
L: curried cauliflower soup if I have time to make it.... Left over cauliflower cheese if not
S: Sea bream with added prawns, and various veg

Veryfishy · 16/01/2023 10:05

4lb less of me this morning 👍
thanks@BIWI for all the info and @StuntNun for that explanation

I stupidly didn’t cancel the Gousto box , ( I thought I had ) and as I hadn’t chosen anything we’re getting their choice so heaven knows what we’re getting

I’ll just stuck up on loads of greens and do the best I can
there may well be a plea for help !
I’ve cancelled the whole subscription going forward

MrsTaytodarling · 16/01/2023 10:12

5lb loss....BOOM!

BIWI · 16/01/2023 10:24

Wow @moleeye! That's amazing. Really well done Flowers. And @Whicker that is the very best kind of NSV, isn't it? It makes it so much more tangible when you can see such a difference with your clothes.

@NotDonna given your results when you were on holiday, I think it's brilliant that you've dropped another pound. Well done!

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling too great @DontGetEvenGetEverything - I think in your situation I wouldn't worry too much about the weight loss, but just focus on feeling better. No point eating foods that you don't enjoy. Rather than thinking about butter/cream/cheese etc, I'd be focusing on enjoying lots of fresh veg and salads - something a bit lighter, perhaps. You can still add fattier elements to those. But focus on things that make you feel happier Flowers

Looks like it's working for you now, @katesbushh Smile

7lbs is 7lbs @Brassbumblebee - however achieved! Great going.

That's a brilliant post @StuntNun - I'm always in awe at your knowledge!

Great going @Savedmybacon maybe I should start charging after all? Grin

Don't be too downhearted @AllTheBlackCoffee - as you said, you don't know where you started. And it's still a loss! KOKO as you say.

Glad you're feeling better @Greatly

BIWI · 16/01/2023 10:28

@Merchdda you're not on the spreadsheet, so I can't see how much you weigh - do you have much to lose?

And can you list out for me what you've been eating/drinking over the last few days (as well as the cheese platter!) so I can see if there's anything obvious to tweak?

BOOM indeed, @MrsTaytodarling Grin

Thanks BIWI nice to know that degree in Biochemistry turned out useful for something! 😜

Hmm, yes. Linguistics & Literature doesn't quite give me the same qualification Grin

Good morning everyone. Well done on some great losses! Small gain for me but I fell off the wagon over the weekend so to be expected. I am feeling better overall though and am happy it was small slips rather than giving up completely. In the office today so it's tuna avo salad for lunch (with mayo and evoo) then naked fajitas for tea. Roasted a chicken yesterday and very much enjoyed it along with buttery carrot and swede mash and broccoli.

BIWI · 16/01/2023 10:43

Just a reminder re thread etiquette - PLEASE read all the posts on the thread. I know there are a lot, and the thread can can move quickly, but please don't just jump on to post your own stuff.

Some amazing losses on the spreadsheet! And if that isn't you, please don't be disheartened. There's a whole community of people here to help you to KOKO.

5.75lbs off for me - BOOM indeed!

CarbyLite · 16/01/2023 10:49

I didn’t lose anything. But didn’t gain either. I started on 1st Jan and lost 7lbs in the week before BC so hopefully it’s just my body settling into it and I’ll lose this week.

Well done everyone else for your losses.

Also, I forgot all about coleslaw! I am going to look at that next time I go shopping.

Jenasaurus · 16/01/2023 10:51

Thank you for directing me to this thread @BIWI , I would have merrily been talking to myself on the other one all day :) Im a bit dippy at the moment, hormones I suspect
