Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 2 - how did you get on?!

BIWI · 15/01/2023 23:00

Evening all! I'm posting the week 2 chat thread this evening, as I know how keen everyone will be to post tomorrow. As I'm retired now, I no longer have to set an alarm to wake up, so I don't want to keep everyone waiting tomorrow morning to post.

I love this week. It's when we see how much people have lost, and it can be a significant amount. It can be a real leap of faith for anyone who hasn't low carbed before, and all those who really don't believe you can eat that much fat and still lose weight!

I'm really hoping that you've all had a good first week, and that your commitment 'to the cause' has been rewarded with a good result - be that on the scales, with your tape measure, or the currently-too-tight clothes that you've been trying on.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope very much that you've had a good first week, and that you're feeling supermotivated for the rest of Bootcamp.

However - if you haven't lost, or you have even gained, please don't be downhearted. We're all different, and there may be lots of reasons why this is the case for you. It's also really important to note that it's not a competition. We all lose at different rates - plus, anyone who is bigger will lose more/faster than someone who is smaller.

Hopefully there are other benefits to this WOE that will keep you on track - at the very least, I hope that you have been enjoying the food, and that you don't feel deprived, like you would be on a low calorie/fat diet.

Well done on all the losses, 2.7 kg for me. I'm especially happy as I'm taking amitriptyline for sciatica and a side effect is weight gain, knowing that I can mitigate it with this WOE is great. I'm hoping that maybe the inflammation will reduce as well, does anyone have positive stories of low carb/weight loss or anything else that has helped with sciatica?

Baystard · 16/01/2023 17:59

@Merchdda there will be posters along soon with great recipes I'm sure, but it's also nice on its own as a hot drink, it's very good for the you.

Passtheturkey · 16/01/2023 18:09

@Merchdda I normally use it as a stock for soups, no particular recipe as my go to is bottom of the fridge soup to use up what’s left.

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/01/2023 18:40

You could use the stock to make a celery and leek gratin* - especially lovely with the addition of cream, and don't forget plenty of cheese on top.

Or you could make braised lettuce and peas (but increase the lettuce and just use a handful of peas).

*other mixes of veg are available

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/01/2023 18:44

Or, as pp said, just add some seasonings and drink it as a hot drink!

You could also make a one-portion (minestrone or other) soup.

Eanair23 · 16/01/2023 18:48

Down 2.8lb. Actually I weighed 163, 164 & 165 this weekend so I'm putting in 164 (today was 165 actually)😊today. Onward!

mimosa1 · 16/01/2023 18:57

@BonnieBairn I love a side of salmon with a little (gluten free to reduce carbs) soy sauce - just make a foil packet. I love cold salmon so always more for leftovers the next day.

BonnieBairn · 16/01/2023 19:16

Thanks @Jenasaurus and @mimosa1 I love fish pie and salmon, I'm trying to branch out a little and not get to stuck in a rut with ideas as I try to make extra to take for lunches.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 16/01/2023 19:47

I’ve posted this before , but cod wrapped in palma ham or similar , Fryed in an oil and butter mix , and basted as cooking, is a favourite of mine
really lovely

mimosa1 · 16/01/2023 20:02

Hmmm... I'll have a think about fish recipes @BonnieBairn.

In the meantime, I couldn't resist showing you all the gorgeous cracking on this piece of sirloin as I know many of you will appreciate it. DH and I went to lovely steak restaurant this evening. I resisted the chips - the crackling helped :)

Lots of great fish recipes here:

Rayna37 · 16/01/2023 20:51

Loads of water today!
B: mushroom and cheese omelette
L: leftover roast pork with spinach tomato cucumber salad with oil and mustard Mayo
D: cauli rice kedgeree- my recipe and others on the thread I linked to above. It was a bit rushed between the end of work and sending DS off to swim but still good!

Not feeling the need to snack or even have some yogurt after my lunch! Very unusual even as a regular bootcamper.

Hopeislost · 16/01/2023 21:25

@jenasaurus that fish pie sounds lovely!

And handy as I now have a lot of cream cheese to use. DH went shopping and instead of buying cream and cheese, bought 2 packs of cream cheese Hmm

BonnieBairn · 16/01/2023 21:46

@Rayna37 that's brilliant thanks. I couldn't find a recipe thread for fish for some reason.

CleanQueen123 · 16/01/2023 21:52

6lbs down for me which I was surprised about because I don't feel like I've lost much. I put 10lbs on in December so that's over half of it gone in one go. Long may it continue!

Eanair23 · 16/01/2023 22:02

The recipes make me hungry at this hour. But I'm resolved to cook something new this week.
Today I had;
B. Baked eggs with veg and cheese. Creamy coffee
L. Chicken Caesar. No croutons/pine nuts/balsamic!
D. Chicken thighs with cabbage and coleslaw.
3L water.
I went swimming tonight so I'm tucked up in bed to stop snacking. Seeing as I'm not hungry.

I hope everyone is hanging in, in this cold weather. KOKO

DryWhiteagainW · 16/01/2023 22:24

So many pages, have not caught up, but suffice to say I’m gutted as despite my best efforts no weight loss this week. I guess it will happen eventually. Not so much to loose but still. Annoying.

DryWhiteagainW · 16/01/2023 22:26

Reading back now and we’ll done to everyone, some impressive losses

venusandmars · 16/01/2023 22:29

@Merchdda one bowl of chicken stock... I might just add cream and butter and blend it all together for the best ever comfort food!

DryWhiteagainW · 16/01/2023 22:39

Ginger I started HRT in October (after 5 yrs of coping/not coping on my own)….haven’t noticed weight gain (other than over indulging ). Benefits are incredible. I’m sleeping so well and not feeling as overwhelmed.

BIWI · 16/01/2023 22:49

@DryWhiteagainW I suspect that it's because you probably haven't got that much to lose - you've lost 4lbs so far though, which is good!

However, list out for me what you've been eating/drinking over the last few days and let's see if I can spot anything.

Welldone on all the losses
Not much for me as at my goal weight but love joining in and reading all the food
@TangledWebOfDeception welcome to posting
Someone mentioned sciatica I feel this woe helps, I actually can't remember having it since I Started this in 2021.
I thought the cold feeling was down to not having heating on as much with price
We have snow in Ireland today.

LoopingLizards · 16/01/2023 23:27

Well done on all the losses!
Day 1 here for me, just getting my head around it all.

B: 2 fried eggs & 2 rashers
L: ham & cheese rolls
d: chicken wings & buttery broccoli
1.5 l peppermint tea

amispeakingintongues · 17/01/2023 00:03

I've lost a little (0.6kg) - not as much as I hoped - but only day 6 for me so not been a week yet. Feel as though I've turned a corner today though, not very hungry at all and no mad sugar cravings again. Energy levels returning. Headache has vanished and drinking all the water is no longer a chore!

B: coffee with double cream
L: homemade creamy mushroom soup
D: homemade curried mince beef with onions and peppers cooked in bone broth, with cauliflower rice and mangetout

Snack / x3 salami slices

TigerYiger · 17/01/2023 00:03

4lb down and now 2lb away from the next stone down and what was my never never again weight that I bust into in December. Feeling much better about myself, as I do struggle with that.

@Merchdda I honestly thought I'd never be without coffee and cream but have you considered a bulletproof coffee? I have a jug blender so it's a bit noisy but it worth it as it's so delicious and rich and as a previous swigger of cream and proof it piles on weight when I let it get bad I can say one does the job of at least two ordinary coffees with (even lots) of cream.

I go for 15g ish in a 250ml fresh ground decaf coffee beans and love a salty butter (Waitrose own) together in the blender for 20 seconds, top up with a splash of boiling as I like my coffee hot and voila - hot latte!
