Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 2 - how did you get on?!

BIWI · 15/01/2023 23:00

Evening all! I'm posting the week 2 chat thread this evening, as I know how keen everyone will be to post tomorrow. As I'm retired now, I no longer have to set an alarm to wake up, so I don't want to keep everyone waiting tomorrow morning to post.

I love this week. It's when we see how much people have lost, and it can be a significant amount. It can be a real leap of faith for anyone who hasn't low carbed before, and all those who really don't believe you can eat that much fat and still lose weight!

I'm really hoping that you've all had a good first week, and that your commitment 'to the cause' has been rewarded with a good result - be that on the scales, with your tape measure, or the currently-too-tight clothes that you've been trying on.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope very much that you've had a good first week, and that you're feeling supermotivated for the rest of Bootcamp.

However - if you haven't lost, or you have even gained, please don't be downhearted. We're all different, and there may be lots of reasons why this is the case for you. It's also really important to note that it's not a competition. We all lose at different rates - plus, anyone who is bigger will lose more/faster than someone who is smaller.

Hopefully there are other benefits to this WOE that will keep you on track - at the very least, I hope that you have been enjoying the food, and that you don't feel deprived, like you would be on a low calorie/fat diet.

I stopped eating my dinner when I was full.

I STOPPED EATING MY DINNER WHEN I WAS FULL!

Brassbumblebee · 22/01/2023 19:37

I really haven't felt hungry much of today, so much so I forgot all about breakfast until around 1pm and didnt even finish dinner.
Hopefully I can dodge the big stick saying as how we're only one day away from BC light? 😬

This past fortnight has been great but I'm looking forward to introducing some berries into my diet, big fan of raspberries.

L: cauliflower cheese, pork loin chops and buttery kale.
D: bacon, half a chicken thigh and some shoggled sprouts and Swede with butter.

stayathomegardener · 22/01/2023 20:25

@prettybird I'd love your sourdough recipe to make for DH's 66th birthday at the end of February.

He adores bread.
He did join me low carbing once but lost so much weight so quickly it was untenable.

stayathomegardener · 22/01/2023 20:26

@ZiggZagg that's traumatic enough just reading it.

Glad you are ok.

prettybird · 22/01/2023 20:28

@stayathomegardener - I took notes as I was making it as I've deviated from/adapted the Clever Carrot "beginner" recipe that got me making it successfully. PM me and when I've typed it out, I can send it to you.

Do you have a starter already?

stayathomegardener · 22/01/2023 20:32

Had a bizarre situation today where just one finger swelled up within minutes, hot, red, throbbing and itchy.

Clearly an allergy as my blood pressure was high but what to I cannot decide.

Not eating supper tonight as don't want to risk icy roads for pharmacies or getting checked out should it flare again.

Was looking forward to tuna steaks with butter and greens.

Ooohh thank you so much.

I'll attempt a PM but having difficulties logging in to Mumsnet this last week.

No, no starter but I'm sure I can buy that closer to the time.

MaryDoll84 · 22/01/2023 20:45

Bloody hell! That must've been so scary, ZiggZagg. Glad you and Iris are both OK.
@SpottyBumPony That made me laugh. Stopping eating when you're full must be so normal for so many people, but as someone who has always finished what's on their plate, no matter what, I understand how much of a big deal this is.

Decent days eating for me, though I keep fancying something sweet for no reason.
Good luck for all who are weighing tomorrow. I think I read on here that stalls are common around now so even if the scale doesn't move, it doesn't mean it's not working.

DryWhiteagainW · 22/01/2023 20:57

ZiggZagg hope you feel ok tomorrow , sounds awful

Eanair23 · 22/01/2023 21:32

@prettybird that looks to die for. If that came out of my oven, DH and I would devour it. Fair dues to you for resisting it.
@ZiggZagg , you might be in for a giant headache.

I'm having a weird week. I weigh regularly and my weight is UP every single day. I weighed one morning, went swimming, and was 2lb heavier when I got home. 164lb was my old BC target, and I hover around that. I started this BC at 166 or something. Last week end I weighed 163, 164 &165. So I recorded 164. But I actually weighed 169 this week!! Which I didn't even do over Christmas, when I was eating treats every day. I'm thinking it's a bit of constipation or my scales are broken.
Today,
B. Creamy coffee, 3 eggs with mushrooms.
L. Slice of roast beef.
D. Roast beef (it was divine), loads of greens, cauliflower with cheese. I finally did the celeriac in the air fryer. It was lovely with butter.
I went out with my club for a cycle this morning. We did a hard 2 hours, the max I can manage low carb. But I did it! I loved my dinner after.

prettybird · 22/01/2023 21:35

@ZiggZagg Sounds dreadful Shock I hope you're ok. It must have been really scary Sad

@stayathomegardener - I'll go on to the laptop tomorrow and try PMing you myself. If you're prepared to give me your address, I send you some dried starter, which you can reconstitute.

ZiggZagg · 22/01/2023 21:43

Thanks everyone I'm really fine! Just expecting to be achey for a few days! Iris is fine (she was just a bit soggy!) although DS5 said he thought I was dead and that if I died he would cry forever which made me feel really loved! Alls well that ends well and I can add it to my ever growing list of dog related injuries (maybe next time I'll try a cat!)Grin

I'm planning on boiled eggs with butter for lunch tomorrow and maybe steak/lamb chops with FLGV and cheese. I'm going to stick with strict bootcamp on account of me being a big, fat pig the last few days! I'm dreading the scales in the morning Sad

mimosa1 · 22/01/2023 21:58

@ZiggZagg that sounds so frightening - glad you're ok now. Take it easy!

@katesbushh wishing you better as well. I'm not an hcp but there has been a rotten chest bug going round lately. Hopefully yoh can get seen tomorrow.

@prettybird it was me, thanks for the scoring photos! It looks gorgeous. Bread isn't precisely one of my triggers (unlike crisps, cake, chocolate, etc. ) so once I'm on maintenance, I will try to incorporate bread made properly vs the highly processed loaves with sugar added. I'm not sure I'm a sufficiently competent baker to make it myself though Smile

Onto week 3!

MrsTaytodarling · 22/01/2023 22:12

What's a nice cauliflower cheese recipe? I just can't get on with cauliflower...maybe with cheese

TigerYiger · 22/01/2023 22:25

@CarbyLite sorry to hear this, I can really relate. Have you watched any KetoKamp on yt? He has a lot of content about weight loss stalling. After the initial drop I'm also the same and know its absolutely stress and sleep. Going to focus there this week and KOKO Wink

Andi2020 · 22/01/2023 23:28

@ZiggZagg glad yo hear you and Iris are OK lovely that your wee boy was so concerned.
Well done everyone on week 2
@CarbyLite if you lost what your eating some of the experienced bootcamers will help you like @BIWI will help you.
I started at 166 in 2021 got to 128 but have put some back on so I come back to
boot camp for motivation don't give p stick with it.

Passtheturkey · 23/01/2023 06:59

@ZiggZagg great that you’re feeling okay after that drama! I’ve got 1year old dog and no one warns you of the injuries that come with them!

Very happy with a 6lb loss this week. It’s taken me into the next stone and below my dream target when I initially started BC.

My main motivation is improving my PCOS symptoms, I’ll spare you all the TMI but am seeing some exciting NSVs on the that side too - led to a little happy dance!

Good luck with the weighing today everyone.

Baystard · 23/01/2023 08:06

Oh @ZiggZagg that sounds awful, hope you feel better soon.

I'm still suffering from the lurgy but yesterday my appetite was enormous so I ate far too much and then had terrible indigestion as well. I can't get too excited about it though, I've learnt that this happens occasionally and it's best to shrug it off and just keep going.

Greatly · 23/01/2023 08:18

Morning all. 4lb in total off which I'm happy with

Brassbumblebee · 23/01/2023 08:31

According to my scale I have gained a pound this week 🤨 I was expecting a decent loss as I've stuck to the plan (apart from a small amount of nuts last week) but still 6lbs over all I suppose.
NSV. My new jeans now fit comfortably!
So for now I'm ignoring the scale and KOKO. I feel great and I know the scales will catch up eventually.

Good luck to everyone who's weighing today.
Here to week 3!

Jenasaurus · 23/01/2023 08:33

Hi all,

lost slightly under a pound but not bothering with 0.1 of a pound difference so logged it as a pound this week. I have had another 5 days of constipation so back on the medication for it, hate taking meds but it was a mistake taking it until I went and then stopping as back at square one again!

Is there a week 3 thread yet?

New week ahead with exciting things we can now include, such as berries :)

BIWI · 23/01/2023 08:34

Week 3 chat thread is here

I'm having a few laptop issues right now, so need to re-start. Will see you all on the other side!

mimosa1 · 23/01/2023 08:42

0.7 kg off this week which isn't brilliant given how much I've got to lose but 2.7kg over the past 2 weeks is good and I'm in to the next 10-bobs bracket so onwards.

BIWI · 23/01/2023 08:45

@mimosa1 link to the week 3 chat thread is immediately above your post
