Pre Christmas 22 Boot Camp: the Final Weigh-In!

prettybird · 12/12/2022 08:16

Good Morning Campers on this cold and crisp morning! Smile Time for the final weigh-in of this Pre-Christmas Boot Camp Xmas Shock. @FinallyHere will be along shortly with the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Xmas Smile

I hope you've enjoyed this Boot Camp and that you've achieved at least some objectives, either or both SVs and NSVs FlowersXmas Smile.

I've certainly enjoyed running it in @BIWI's not quite total Wink absence (I really appreciated her contributions - she has so much knowledge and experience Smile). As well as @BIWI and @FinallyHere's help, I'd also like to thank @StuntNun who also added her knowledge when called upon. And of course, all you lot. The support we give each other is also what helps make these Boot Camps so successful - as well, of course, because this WoE works Xmas Grin

This thread will continue on over Christmas until it fills up (which i doubt, as we've not been as busy as in some previous Boot Camps).

There's still time to lose a few more pounds/kg before Christmas if you want to - I know I still have a target of another few pounds Xmas Shock - but I'll be happy with just one or two as I've already lost over a stone this Boot Camp Xmas Smile (official weigh-in tomorrow after having non-BootCamp compliant supper at my Dad's last night Xmas Blush)

FinallyHere · 29/12/2022 12:13

Ooohhh, scotch egg recipe looks very promising @StuntNun We have a packet of 100% sausage meat in the 'fridge and loads of eggs, in pleasing serendipity.

Baystard · 29/12/2022 15:41

Those look amazing @StuntNun I'll definitely be trying those!

FinallyHere · 29/12/2022 18:10

Six scotch eggs loaded into the Ninja

No idea how long they will take or how it will go. Looking pretty good so far.

What luxury this woe provides. My Christmas indulgences were all actually lower than usual quality food and it was no hardship to climb back on the wagon.

Other NSV to be taken into consideration include feeling good about my food choices and do immune to the steady stream of 'healthy living' add on SM and, not to be despised fitting comfortably into clothes I haven't fitted for decades.

thank you

Skiphopbump · 30/12/2022 11:03

@StuntNun those scotch eggs do look delicious!

@FinallyHere i feel the same that many Christmas indulgences were lower quality foods - except a Baileys tiramisu I made that was divine!

The weight went on so rapidly over Christmas but thankfully seems to be coming off quickly too, fingers crossed I’ll start the next bootcamp no heavier than I started the last.
I bought myself some jeans in the sale in a size 16 with an aim to fit into them in March - they fit now! I’ll ignore the fact all reviews state to size down as they are big and take it as a win……

BIWI · 30/12/2022 11:33

I'm gearing myself up to start a prep thread for the next Bootcamp - probably in the next day or so - but I'm very open to any suggestions for either things to include in that thread, or any changes anyone would like to see with the next Bootcamp.

I'm going to keep it at 8 weeks, as I think everyone runs out of steam if it's any longer than that, but otherwise, any suggestions are more than welcome.

Thank you!

(And mega thanks to @FinallyHere who will be womanning the spreadsheet for us)

NotDonna · 30/12/2022 12:16

Just caught up with you all. Scotch eggs look amazing - shame I don’t like eggs separated
and can only have yolk & white mixed Eg omelet, scrambled etc.
Also some amazing achievements! 3 dress sizes for lucie and jeans that fit now rather than March for skip👏🏻
Hope you’re feeling better BIWI and feeling up to managing the next BC. I have zero recommendations as thought it was run brilliantly last time (thank you to yourself, prettybird and finallyhere).

I know you said not to weigh at SIL’s but we’ve checked into a hotel (AirBnB had disgusting black mould everywhere so left) and has bathroom scales. It’s night time (11pm) and I usually weigh in mornings but I couldn’t resist & rather surprised to see I weigh exactly the same as I did at BC final weigh in 😱 I know, I know it’s probs not very accurate esp different scales and everything but I doubt it’ll be miles off. Given the last few days have been very carby (was served kangaroo pasta at friends yesterday with zero other options plus champagne) I’m chuffed with that. If I have managed to maintain (ish) I’ll be delighted.

We have NYE party tomorrow at SILs with a view of Sydney Harbour Bridge fireworks 🤞🏼and she’s doing sausage rolls, mini pies etc. If the Airbnb had been ok I’d have rustled up a pre-party omelet but now not sure how I’ll navigate this. Although no damp & mould in the hotel the lack of kitchen is a bit of a shame.

If I don’t manage to post tomorrow, Happy New Year! 🎉🎉🎉

Skiphopbump · 30/12/2022 12:30

Great that the scales have stayed the same @NotDonna

@BIWI would it be possible to keep the spreadsheet going for an extra two weeks after bootcamp finishes?

prettybird · 31/12/2022 12:25

Popping in briefly to say that I had an NSV Xmas Smile

I bought two pairs of jeans at the beginning of the year, to replace two old pairs that had work through at the thighs (Blush): one pair a slightly looser cut and the the other pair some skinnies. For various reasons I never got round to trying on the skinnies (although they were a replacement pair) and then I put on some weight, so didn't want to try them on Blush

Anyway, I put them on on Boxing Day and they fit well Xmas Grin They're M&S Size 12 - admittedly vanity sizing but a 12 nonetheless Xmas Wink

Great result prettybird
I have some denim shorts I’ve been wearing throughout the trip (not everyday but not far off). Thought they’d gone a bit loose due to wear, you know how denim goes. But even after the wash they’re bigger. I can actually take them off without unbuttoning them. Time for some new shorts 🎉
Had a good day today with a lunch of feta salad with a gorgeous vinaigrette and tomatoes, also some grapes on there but not many. Was really delicious. NYE Party food this evening was ok too as niece had done an amazing charcuterie board so had cheese, salami & meatballs. Also had my daughter’s choc chip cookie and a glass of fizz but mostly stuck to water. I’m not sure why I think it’s necessary to finish my kids’ food. I hadn’t chosen the cookie, didn’t really want it but she’d changed her mind so I polished it off. Totally forgot that I am not a human dustbin! Great evening watching the fireworks over Sydney Harbour (felt quite emotional) Here’s to a great 2023 ladies & koko xxx

BIWI · 31/12/2022 18:32

Great NSV @prettybird!

Happy New Year to everyone. Here's to a peaceful, calm and happy 2023 Flowers

ZiggZagg · 01/01/2023 17:55

Happy New Year campers! I've ended the year on 234lbs which means I've put 4lbs on over Christmas, I'm not devastated over that and right back on it today!

Excited for the start of new bootcamp and hopefully seeing less of you all (Grin) this year!

prettybird · 01/01/2023 18:29

@BIWI - you asked about ideas to improve BootCamp. I've quite enjoyed stepping up to Challenges set even if I set them myself last BootCampWink during Boot Camp.

You did trying new recipes one Boot Camp, for example.

Or we could do trying a new colour/item of clothing to wear.

It gives us NSVs to work on / maybe after the first week, as there is enough else to be focussing on in the first week Grin

Oh my Lordy, that was a difficult Christmas!!

Pressures have included a very elderly PIL falling (dh thrust immediately into 24hr carer role, emergency care assessment, support package agreed but unable to be fulfilled due to lack of social care staff Sad); vegan dc staying intermittently and stressing about a planned 3 month trip to South America; other dc splitting up with partner and coming to stay with dgc, including one with a cmp allergy; sister visiting with a nut allergy; long term best friend (for 60 years) stuck alone in UK while her dh is in Australia... I've planned, shopped, cooked comforted and attended to everyone's needs but my own. (except for the need to be everyone else's care and support person!! Confused)

dh and and I had one glorious day when it was just the 2 of us: roast pork with crackling, pigs in blankets (which my Scottish Mum used to call 'kilted sausages' Grin - I recall that the top half of the sausage was bare (taps aff ye Scots boys!) and the bacon was wrapped round the lower half a couple of times like a wee frilly kilt). We also indugled ourselves with a £60 bottle of wine Xmas Shock

Now it is all done (well not the elderly PILs stuff) and I can start looking after myself again. I've got eggs, smoked salmon, spinach. There's loads of green soup in the freezer.

I've created a big hamper for dh that has all the biscuits, sweets, chocolates in it. It will be his little reward for being interim carer.

I am looking forward to bootcamp 2023.

ditavonteesed · 02/01/2023 07:37

Blimey @venusandmars that's a lot well done for coping with it all, now is definitely time to focus on you.
I'm up a couple of pounds, bloated, spotty, tired, brain fog and generally feeling pants, all of which is entirely my own fault and caused by not eating well. We had a Buffett at work New Years night and I literally felt like I'd been drugged yesterday. Previously I've been getting up from nights and going for a little run, yesterday I could barely drag my butt downstairs for a coffee.

On the plus side I didn't eat as much rubbish as I normally would at Christmas and I finished the year 6lbs lighter than I started it.

@prettybird I like the personal challenges. My current personal challenge is to read, I didn't read one whole book last year. I have set myself 10 mins a day challenge and charged my kindle up.
Also skincare, I'm so lax with skincare even dd has a go at me for going to bed in my makeup all the time.

pinknsparkly · 02/01/2023 09:59

@venusandmars bless you. That sounds like a really tough Christmas "break" for you all. Hope the care support package gets in place soon for you!

@prettybird - I also really liked the personal challenges, even if I wasn't as good at sticking to them as you! They were good motivation though 😄

BIWI · 02/01/2023 11:16

OMG @venusandmars what a Christmas! I'm so sorry for you, your DH and - obviously - his dad Sad

But very definitely time to look after yourself again. I can sympathise partly, having had to cook for others' needs over Christmas, but nothing like what you have had to achieve. Sounds like a massively heroic effort.

NotDonna · 03/01/2023 09:22

Oh what a nightmare for you @venusandmars do hope everything is settling down including PIL.
I too like the challenge of bed before midnight and the self-care ideas. I also like the ability to carry on chatting about it after the 8 weeks. This has been so helpful in maintaining and not going totally off the rails. Especially as a first timer.
Currently at Sydney airport after a fabulous 3 week trip. I do feel a bit tubbier but have relaxed the rules, which is fair enough for a Xmas/holiday. Really looking forward to getting back on it properly at BOOTCAMP. I’ll be trying to stop the sugar & carbs prior though.

Baystard · 03/01/2023 13:03

Oh @venusandmars what a challenging time you've had, hope things improve for you all.

I enjoyed Christmas but I'm already finding January very difficult. I normally dislike/dread January and Ive taken a few extra days off this year so that the working January is shorter but I'm still dreading going back to work, and quite depressed - what I really want is to hibernate.

In a strange way I might have felt better now if I had fallen off the wagon at Christmas and had a quick weight loss win in prospect - something to give me a motivational boost. However for the first Christmas ever I've been very settled in my eating and suspect I may even have lost a small amount since BC.

Looking forward to BC, can't wait to get started. I've been eating more nuts over the last few weeks as well as some fruity accompaniments to cheese so it'll be good to reset a little.

FinallyHere · 03/01/2023 17:23

Hugs or gentle hand on your shoulder @venusandmars That's a lot you have had going on there.

Post Christmas weigh in for me tomorrow when I shall be facing the impact of going off piste a tax over the holidays. I too have been glad to have this continuation thread going.

One NSV at this time of year has been a boon for me. My social media threads are flooded by the 'lose a stone in a day' type of adverts. Usually I'm tempted to sign up to all of them. This year I've hardly noticed them. I'm happy with this way of eating and the results. My plan is simply to KOKO doing something g o know works.

Happy New Year, indeed

NotDonna · 05/01/2023 09:08

I’m home from Oz after a spectacular trip and some relaxation of LC (dim sum, pavlova & booze mostly - once at the same sitting 😱) and very pleased to report that I’m 2lb lighter than when I left 3 weeks ago. This thread continuation has really helped me stay accountable and mindful of my choices. Thank you so much everyone! I’m signed up to the next BC and need to go egg hunting for my prep as none delivered last night. I live on eggs!! So this BC I’ve got 10lbs to lose, which I think is doable. 🤞🏼

prettybird · 05/01/2023 11:57

@NotDonna - you've done brilliantly for being on holiday and over the Christmas period! Xmas Smile

@venusandmars - what a lot for you to deal with Xmas Shock - be kind to yourself Flowers

Baystard · 05/01/2023 12:27

@NotDonna well done on having a good time and simultaneously staying largely on track! I go through phases with eggs but having had a glut of them (I have hens) I've been eating buttery omelette almost daily and I've enjoyed them and find them incredibly filling.

I got an espresso machine for Christmas and it's brilliant, I'm getting so much use from it. Thanks to this group for the suggestion of watered down double cream for making frothy milky coffee - it feels like such a treat as normally I avoid milk other than a small splash in my daily cup of tea. I've been having a big creamy coffee instead of lunch some days as I've had double cream to use up from Christmas (normally I stick to clotted cream).

NotDonna · 05/01/2023 12:45

Ooh enjoy your Nespresso! The diluted double cream was a revelation! I’ve not got a frother. Mines a basic dolce gusto where the ‘milk’ is in the pod already - so bound to be carby. So staying in away & sticking to herbal teas. We used to keep hens too! They were the best, we had to give them away when we relocated. I’ve found some at the local shop so have just had a gorgeous folded omelet stuffed with kale and toms cooked in lots of butter. Yum! But now I’m craving a creamy coffee!

NotDonna · 07/01/2023 14:05

In the style of prettybird I’d like to celebrate a move out of the 150’s and into the 140’s with a weight today of 149.4lbs!! I’m chuffed as I started pre Xmas boot camp at 165, lost 11lbs during BC and another almost 5lbs over the Christmas & new year hols. The hols wasn’t even BC light, some of the time yes, but I did have quite a few treats, mindfully, and didn’t go crazy. It’s incredible just how well this works! And how this woe is so straightforward and doable. According to happy scale I should be at my goal by early Feb! I think the next bootcamp will help achieve that. Huge thank you to keeping this thread going over the Xmas period as it’s helped enormously!!

Baystard · 07/01/2023 16:20

Well done @NotDonna 👏

I've been weighing occasionally and have been loitering around the low 140s for the last month so my goal for Jan bootcamp is to get into the 130's. I don't think I've been in that bracket for around twenty years!

NS"V" now is that my nice (and smallest sized) work trousers are a bit baggy when I tried then today and I'll need to get smaller ones . Unfortunately I can't find the same style in a smaller size anymore and I'm a bit sad about that. Keeping my eyes peeled on ebay.
