Pre Christmas 22 Boot Camp: the Final Weigh-In!

Good Morning Campers on this cold and crisp morning! Smile Time for the final weigh-in of this Pre-Christmas Boot Camp Xmas Shock. @FinallyHere will be along shortly with the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Xmas Smile

I hope you've enjoyed this Boot Camp and that you've achieved at least some objectives, either or both SVs and NSVs FlowersXmas Smile.

I've certainly enjoyed running it in @BIWI's not quite total Wink absence (I really appreciated her contributions - she has so much knowledge and experience Smile). As well as @BIWI and @FinallyHere's help, I'd also like to thank @StuntNun who also added her knowledge when called upon. And of course, all you lot. The support we give each other is also what helps make these Boot Camps so successful - as well, of course, because this WoE works Xmas Grin

This thread will continue on over Christmas until it fills up (which i doubt, as we've not been as busy as in some previous Boot Camps).

There's still time to lose a few more pounds/kg before Christmas if you want to - I know I still have a target of another few pounds Xmas Shock - but I'll be happy with just one or two as I've already lost over a stone this Boot Camp Xmas Smile (official weigh-in tomorrow after having non-BootCamp compliant supper at my Dad's last night Xmas Blush)

Happy Christmas everyone.

Starting the day with lukewarm ginger tea. Family responsibilities on both sides now all covered and I foresee a glass of champagne in my not so distant future.

Christmas Dinner at lunch time is in a restaurent just a few steps away. Later today some almond sweetment may well be inhaled and then I shall leap lithely back onto the waggon with all the cheese this evening. I decided to take just Christmas Day off this year and am conscious that there may be some carb craving pain to go through tomorrow but hey ... it's Christmas and I'm drinking all.the.water

We had the family at ours yesterday, which was perfect to use up a box of very milky sugary chocolates. I wasn't even tempted completely prefer the good 90% stuff these days.

Hurrah.

Interesting how many people with whom we have caught up, are also involved in the Zoe health project. Wearing a continuous glucose monitor earlier this year transformed my relationship with sugars and starches which worked really well for me in conjunction with this lovely bootcamp.

Having control of my eating which doesn't need desperate self restraint is the absolutely best gift I've ever received.

Thank you lovely bootcampers

Mercedesbenz2022 · 25/12/2022 10:45

Merry Christmas everybody!
I didn’t stay the course but just popping back to let @prettybird know , shoogled sprouts on our Christmas dinner today x

Baystard · 25/12/2022 15:23

Merry Christmas everyone, hope you all had a lovely day!

ZiggZagg · 25/12/2022 22:02

Merry Christmas Campers! I hope you have all had a fabulous day with loved ones!

It's been a completely non bootcamp food kind of day but I did also have shoogled sprouts which everyone loved!

It's my lovely DM's birthday tomorrow so is having drinks and food but will be back on bootcamp day after, scouts honour 🤣

Have a restful time all!

Lucienandjean · 25/12/2022 23:26

I hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas.

Yesterday I finally hit 115kgs, which means I'm officially obese now, rather than morbidly obese. It's taken me nearly a year to get there and I've lost 24kgs in the process. Still got a way to go but it does feel like a milestone on the journey.

Today has been a carby day. I didn't go crazy but I did eat a couple of things (planned) that I had looked forward to. I had an amazing roast potato, and a slice of lovely soft white bread to make a turkey sandwich. Otherwise I stuck to the meat, veggies and cheese (though more than usual). Tomorrow I'm back on the Bootcamp plan. The 'day off' was worth it, even if I gain a little on the scales as a result. Planning what I would eat made it feel more achievable, and I avoided falling face first into the box of sweets.

NotDonna · 26/12/2022 00:33

@Lucienandjean that's a huge achievement - well done you! Your ‘day off’ doesn’t sound too crazy either. I think planning is key whether that’s planning to have LC or not, it stops us plowing in to mindless eating that’s really not needed nor particularly enjoyable. Do you have a new goal?

StuntNun · 26/12/2022 08:04

Christmas Day done and back on the low carb wagon today. I had half a slice of bread piled high with smoked salmon, a whole roast potato with my roast dinner, and a tiny piece of Christmas pudding for dessert. I'm also not sure about the gravy as it was <whispers> bought rather than homemade. Not too shabby!

ditavonteesed · 26/12/2022 08:06

Happy Christmas everyone.

comfortablylesslumpy · 26/12/2022 09:36

@Lucienandjean that is amazing, you must be feeling so pleased. KOKO!!

I had a day off the wagon yesterday. Totally unscientific analysis, but have been starving all morning as a result!

And (TMI) I am feeling quite gassy. It has just occurred to me that I am not at all gassy on LC. Pesky carbs are obviously to blame for that so another LC benefit!

Back I'm the wagon today (though will have dry white wine). Leftovers for dinner but I will omit potatoes, parsnips and stuffing.

I didn't have potatoes after all yesterday as had made celeriac mash, but I did have some roast parsnips and they were lush, as was the stuffing and Christmas pud -

Hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas :D

prettybird · 26/12/2022 09:42

Merry Christmas everyone.

I had the tiniest of roast potatoes on Christmas Eve: ds' girlfriend was helping me Xmas Wink which ds never does Xmas Hmm by peeling the homegrown potatoes and I'd forgotten to tell her not to bother with the wee ones (I boil them whole and mash them for when dh has mashed potatoes with haggis) and spotted her trying to peel a tiny one so she finished peeling it. It was perfect for me Xmas Grin

I also had a small amount of gravy which did have a very small amount of flour in it, plus some mashed parsnips and chopped chestnuts. And half a homemade dinner milk roll with the tomato and mint soup - but it did have lashings of butter on it Xmas Wink

The almond rice pudding was the other planned "off-piste" aberration of the evening. Ds' girlfriend won the almond prize on the first attempt: ds was most peeved Xmas Grin

Wine wise we were quite abstemious: only two bottles (one bubbly, one white) over the evening amongst the 4 adults who were drinking. I didn't have nearly enough water though Xmas Blush

Yesterday I had one homemade sourdough croissant and a couple of Nigella's Christmas muffins, but I'm sure that all that flour is why last night I didn't feel well after only 2 glasses of white wine Xmas Confused Plus I'd drunk hardly any water Xmas Blush

Today I'm working on my water intake Xmas Blush

I still haven't had my single cold mince pie (running total of mince pies made: 93 Xmas Shock) nor have I had any chocolate Halo Dh bought me some 85% Hotel du Chocolat bâtons as a stocking filler too Xmas Smile

Up to 11st 10lb this morning but given the no lack of water intake over the last couple of days, I'll take that Xmas Grin

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well. Enjoying the festivities but not going too crazy. 👏🏻 yeah for us! That soup (I’m guessing it’s soup) looks lovely prettybird
Boxing Day now over. Had a great couple of hours at the beach and a swim in the very rough sea. Got tossed about good and proper! Exhausting. Lunch was BBQ steak and sausages with a salad of sweet potato, goats cheese & rocket. Not ideal but was too hard to separate out the sweet potato so just ate it. And quite a bit of it. Also had quite a few macadamia nuts, Brie and Parma ham as picky bits starter. Then another BBQ dinner of sausages & meatballs with BBQ veg - peppers & courgettes. Oh and a square of 90% Lindt. Oh and I didn’t swerve the bday cake - was really awkward to say no to. Had one glass of rose that I actually didn’t enjoy. Oh dear, now I’ve written it all down it’s much worse than I thought! I’d forgotten about the cake! 😩 I’ve not drunk as much water as I should have either. I’m going to fill some big bottles tomorrow when we go out albeit they’ll get warm quite quickly as forecast 38’c tomorrow. 🥵
We are planning to escape the heat somewhat with a trip to the kangaroo/wallaby/koala sanctuary and a pub lunch. I’m going to try skipping the morning coffees from now on as they’ve naughtily crept in as there’s a frother coffee maker here & I’ve been doing the diluted cream thing. They’re very moreish & probs equate to a big bfast. I need to get back to my peppermint tea & no bfast. Kind of 16:8 fast thing. I’ll check out the pub menu but I’m hoping for a basic salad with lots of greens. Dinner will be BBQ steak and salad. Will go booze free tomorrow & no more puds from now on plus seriously up the water. Need to get back in the game!

prettybird · 26/12/2022 12:10

I need to put the recipe for the soup onto the Boot Camp recipe thread as it's essentially just tomatoes, mint, shallots and a glass of sherry (optional). I use shallots rather than onions and don't add the sugar that was in the original recipe - I doubt anyone would even realise Xmas Smile

For Christmas, I add extra red food colouring paste, to make the colour particularly festive Xmas Grin

@NotDonna my new goal is to get to 110kg. I have learned I have to set small targets as if I think too hard about how much I have to lose altogether, i just get discouraged and give up.

My ultimate goal is to be a healthy weight for my height, but that's probably 2 years away at the rate of losing a pound a week.

My next NSV will be to get into a size 20 for clothes. I started at a 26, am now finding a 22 is getting a bit loose, but I'm not quite there for a size 20.

NotDonna · 26/12/2022 13:20

I agree that smaller goals are better otherwise it’s too overwhelming. I’m really impressed by what you’ve achieved so far! Koko!

BIWI · 26/12/2022 14:08

Fantastic progress @Lucienandjean - you must feel so proud of yourself! Flowers

My planned cheat Christmas meal was completely ruined by the Cold From Hell. (Thankfully not Covid though).

I made individual beef wellingtons, with red wine gravy, roast potatoes, roast parsnips and Yorkshire puddings, along with spouts and pancetta (and a bit of shoogling!) and red cabbage with onion and apple and red wine vinegar.

Pudding was sticky toffee pudding with home-made vanilla ice-cream.

I couldn't taste any of it Sad - in fact, I didn't even finish what was on my plate, and I hadn't helped myself to much of it to start with. So all those carbs without even being able to enjoy them. I feel so cheated!

Thankfully I'm feeling better today, and am getting my sense of taste back.

comfortablylesslumpy · 26/12/2022 16:19

I just worked out ... using the new fangled metric butter packs, I have lost a total of 67 packs of butter this year. No wonder I am finding I have more energy!

comfortablylesslumpy · 26/12/2022 16:20

@BIWI that's gutting, I hope you feel better soon.

Lucienandjean · 26/12/2022 16:26

Hope you feel better soon, @BIWI.

FinallyHere · 26/12/2022 17:15

Gratters @Lucienandjean

Congratulations everyone on successfully navigating Christmas rapids and welcome into the calm backwater of the new year.

Sorry to hear you have not been well, @BIWI Hope you feel better soon xx

Skiphopbump · 27/12/2022 11:08

I fell face first into the carbs a week ago like some sort of sugar addict and have come out the other side feeling so sluggish and tired - I braved the scales last night and was a stone heavier!!!!! I did have clothes on and weighed at the end of the day but was still a shock.

Am back on it today and very pleased to be so as I know I’ll have more energy and actually appreciate my food. I will weigh on Monday and hope that too much damage hasn’t been done but by then I know the trend will be going downwards again! I’m having my hba1c measured again in March and really want a better level than last times 47 so I have the motivation to be back on it again.

FinallyHere · 27/12/2022 12:03

@Skiphopbump I can sympathise with the HbA1c result concern. I've had the kit to take mine out for use for months now. Really must get round to doing the test as a a step towards getting the results.

After nearly s year on LCBC I'm almost certain of s better result this year than last's rather concerning results.

comfortablylesslumpy · 27/12/2022 12:13

I have realised how addictive carbs and sugar are. Yesterday I was craving carbs and I gave in.

I have had 2 days off the wagon, time to climb back on .

Making some chicken soup today with the leftovers, and I have loads of veg and cheese to eat up so I am all equipped :D

NYE will be challenging as we do a big dinner with friends, but I am going to make my fave LC chocolate dessert cake so I will have no excuse!

ditavonteesed · 27/12/2022 13:49

@BIWI sorry you got the cold from hell. And it ruined your planned cheats.
I agree with everyone the hunger is insane it's easy to see how you can end up in a spiral, I'm starving (except I'm not I've eaten far too much). Also on the gas, I've always noticed that the minute I have carbs I need to deflate.
@Lucienandjean 3 dress sizes is amazing and I agree with the small goals. They soon add up.
I can't wait to get properly back on it, I have a party tonight but I reckon I can probably do cheese and ham and picky bits. I'm working New Year's Eve night and my colleagues are planning a massive buffet which isn't helpful but I'll swerve it. I'm bored of feeling bloated now.

I weigh exactly what I did a year ago, last year I put on another 4lbs between now and new year. This year I would like to go the opposite way. Planning a run tomorrow. I've found I, really enjoying the running and more so the smug feeling I get afterwards.

Baystard · 27/12/2022 15:52

Hope you feel better soon @BIWI

I've been reasonably virtuous so far this Christmas. Today I'm having a cheese fast Grin

StuntNun · 29/12/2022 10:27

I made low carb Scotch eggs yesterday which are really nice. I soft-boiled six eggs (in a fan steamer from room temperature over boiling water for seven minutes) then cooled them by running cold water over them. Peeled them and coated them in 200g seasoned pork sausagemeat then rolled them in besten egg then ground almonds. Then fried them in oil at 180C. They were lovely eaten hot yesterday. From the fridge today, the outsides are soft rather than crispy but they're still delicious. I will definitely make them again. They're about 3-4g carbs per egg as opposed to 16g for a shop bought egg.
