Morning all.

Here's the spreadsheet for its final outing

I hope that the last 8 weeks have been successful - and also enjoyable! - and I look forward to seeing the final results on the spreadsheet.

@Lougle I saw your update on the last thread, and I'm very, very pleased for you Flowers

The next Bootcamp will start at the end of July (I'll post a sign-up thread in a couple of weeks), but in the meantime, we'll keep this chat thread going.

@Bananajam leg cramps can be a sign you need magnesium.

Bananajam · 28/06/2022 09:37

@StuntNun @Lougle thanks both, I work in a hospital and checked with my consultant who suggested more water and if they continue to get Quinine Sulphate from my GP. I had bloods taken yesterday as part of a routine check-up so I'm interested to see what they reveal! Plus if the cramps continue I'll get a prescription. I've been taking magnesium supplements but they've not made any difference.

I think it's also that bloated time of the month so I'm feeling a little bleurgh! Otherwise, it's all good!

APerfectlyGoodName · 28/06/2022 11:56

I weighed again today 162lbs (I was 164 yesterday and 160.6 last week). I've entered 162 as I think that is reality. That's almost a 10lb loss for me which I am thrilled with

I'm well pleased with this BC and heartfelt thanks to BIWI. I'm in my healthy BMI range, now - thanks to BC. It is a system that I can follow (90%) and lose weight. I have days I am 100% on it, days not so good, but the thread is very motivating to not let a bad day into a bad week etc,

This is my second successful BC. I had carb-flu the first time, but I think the zero tabs are fantastic for that so this BC was easier - and I stuck longer as a result.

On the old debate - what is a healthy diet? I feel really well on this WoE. My skin is glowing, I'm not bloated. I think that sugar and bread cause me gut discomfort- and while I enjoy the taste, I always feel less well after. I also love that I can eat a LCHF breakfast and be out all day without becoming hangry - and having to eat some rubbish!

I am not sure how to proceed. I wont plan on full BC all the time. Perhaps a few days of BC when I'm at home - reset days. The water will be a challenge.

I'm doing my first post Covid triathlon this weekend. This will take me 3-4hours and we're booked for dinner in the evening with friends. While it is possible to exercise for hours LC, it is challenging, and having hit 'the wall' once - it is a rotten feeling so I won't be trying it. But I will swerve the sugar - which I don't really enjoy anyway. There aren't a lot of places to hide fat in a Tri suit so thank you to everyone here for the support - I will go forth with confidence!

TheOnlyMrsW · 28/06/2022 12:12

STS which i'm grateful for after the weekend, fab time and a really great small festival but only food options were pizza, Thai (which I can't have cos allergies) and a burger van 😥. Was a tiny place though, think 400 people max so can understand that they wanted to get crowdpleasers.
Big Premier Inn breakfast - sausage, bacon, eggs and mushrooms Friday/Saturday/Sunday meant I wasn't too hungry and only sneaked a piece of DD's pizza on arena days. Not too much alcohol either as was mainly beer which I don't drink. Plus the size 14 shorts I bought the other week for Download are really loose on the waist so happy with that 😍.
Definitely going to keep on with this WOE, I don't really like bread/potatoes/pasta anyway as they make me feel bloated and I love seeing all the different meals people have. Need to find something other than eggs for breakfast though - I don't always feel hungry but am getting a bit fed up of them!!!!
Some fab losses for people, completely inspiring. I've got a while to go to reach my target of 11 1/2 stone so koko

StuntNun · 28/06/2022 14:51

@Bananajam not all magnesium supplements are bioavailable. I take magnesium glycinate.

All respect to your consultant, (and I am not a medic!) but it's really important on a low carb diet to make sure that you get plenty of magnesium, potassium and sodium, so I'd be looking to supplement with that as well as the quinine.

@TheOnlyMrsW I feel your pain re. food choices. I had the same at an agricultural show. All the carbs, with a side of carbs!

Bananajam · 28/06/2022 17:27

Thanks @BIWI Biwi, I'll do a search tonight and see what my options for supplements are. I do normally take a multivitamin but I don't think its covering all bases.

BIWI · 28/06/2022 17:28

We're off to a 2-day festival this weekend, and I already know that the food choices will be lovely difficult.

The world hasn't been ready for low carb eating for very long, and with the current trend towards vegan food, it's even harder!

@Bananajam I've already posted a link to a supplement in my earlier reply to you!

It was truly a carb-fest. Fish and chips, burgers (but not necessarily with a high meat content!), Hot dogs, pizza. The artisan food hall - sausage rolls (£4 each!!), Pies, baked goods... Nothing at all.

SummerSazz · 28/06/2022 22:26

Thanks @BIWI and @Baystard for this Bootcamp. I was only 4lbs off but have had loads of weekends away, a holiday and meals out so I'm happy to have continued losing.

Well done everyone and some amazing losses. Hope to see a few of you continuing on here and I can celebrate you when I get to 10.5 stones which WILL happen.

@APerfectlyGoodName dh was running on mountains at the weekend and had his emergency fuel of Jelly Babies. I was tempted to steal one until I saw that there are 21g carb in 4 of them (of which 20g is sugar). No wonder it gets him throught the wall!! Hope your triathlon goes well.

@TheOnlyMrsW breakfast: avocado, soup, left over mousakka, this morning it was lettuce with smoked mackeral pate. I tend to keep away from the yougurt and berries for breakfast, and save them for later in the day - I could eat quite a lot at breakfast, whereas after a meal I am content with just 4 or 5 berries. I was once on holiday in Vietnam and we had a couple of days trekking and staying in a villager's house. Woke up early and the family invited us to join them for breakfast - it was delicious soup with pork and veg and herbs and spices. When our guide got up, he was horrified - he had 'American' breakfast for us with bread and processed cheese and processed meat, and jam, and sticky orange juice. I've been a soup-for-breakfast convert ever since.

@BIWI @Lougle and @ all-the-other-festival-goers the trend for vegan fake food is just the worst. It means that the standby vegetarian goats cheese salads are all replaced with chickpea and quinoa patties OR with pretend things made of ultraprocessed ingredients and artificial meat and smoke flavour.

I've had a lot of fish recently, so planning a really nice steak for tomorrow. With spinach from the garden.

You know you're a Bootcamper when you come home from the pub and have a bowl of shoogled sprouts! Grin

My weight has stayed the same for days so just hanging on for a whoosh! I've given up being veggie so think will help me massively and food is interesting again. Fully embracing the meat and veg again!

Lunch - chicken and bacon salad
Dinner - salmon, cabbage / mushrooms with garlic and chilli, and avocado.

Lougle · 29/06/2022 07:17

@DearieMeWhatsUp I've also STS 3 days in a row.

Yesterday's meals:
B - Greek yoghurt, clotted cream, raspberries
L - salad with goats cheese
D - roast veg and belly pork

Fluids: 3 cups of tea. 3.6l water.

Bananajam · 29/06/2022 09:14

Good morning 😊
Can anyone advise regarding lipids and a keto diet? My bloods have come back as showing a high lipid reading and the GP rang yesterday about checking my blood pressure readings. I have an appointment next week but wondered if anyone knew if this was normal and likely to reduce over time?

I absolutely love sprouts! Any excuse for a bowl!!

BIWI · 29/06/2022 09:23

How long have you been low carbing @Bananajam?

I have no idea about lipid readings from your blood tests, although it's possible @StuntNun may.

But blood pressure levels generally should come down on a low carb diet.

@DearieMeWhatsUp and @Lougle you can't expect to lose every day! You should know that by now, 8 weeks later Smile

I wasn't expecting to, just commenting that @DearieMeWhatsUp isn't alone 😊

Bananajam · 29/06/2022 09:45

DH and I started on keto on the 11th April (he was advised to low carb as issues with weight) so that's nearly 3 months. I was planning on requesting a further blood test in 6 months to see if its still the same.
We have both had a couple of slips but mainly stuck to the diet and it helps as I feel so rubbish when I eat too many carbs!

BIWI · 29/06/2022 09:45

And have you had your blood pressure tested at any point?

OP posts:
Bananajam · 29/06/2022 09:48

@BIWI Not yet, I'll see if I can check it today. As far as my Garmin watch tells me, my heart rate is fine.
