Morning all.

Here's the spreadsheet for its final outing

I hope that the last 8 weeks have been successful - and also enjoyable! - and I look forward to seeing the final results on the spreadsheet.

@Lougle I saw your update on the last thread, and I'm very, very pleased for you Flowers

The next Bootcamp will start at the end of July (I'll post a sign-up thread in a couple of weeks), but in the meantime, we'll keep this chat thread going.

2lb weight loss and 0.5% body fat loss in week 1… seems a little low on weight loss for the first week but I had a giant blip on Saturday with a celebration meal (not obviously high in carbs but you never know with restaurant food, sauces etc) and alcohol so I’m putting it down to that. Either way it is a start.

Great recipe ideas on here! I’m getting a bit bored so will have to step up my creativity!

I downloaded the life sum to see how many grams of carbs I’m eating just to see if on the right track. Yesterday it was 25g so I think that’s ok?

BIWI · 07/07/2022 10:37

Well, as you know we don't count carbs ...

... but 25g carbs a day is low and if you continue to eat at that level, you will see weight loss.

And this:

I had a giant blip on Saturday with a celebration meal (not obviously high in carbs but you never know with restaurant food, sauces etc) and alcohol

will undoubtedly have impacted on your weight loss!

If you're really aiming to follow Bootcamp, you shouldn't be drinking alcohol for the first two weeks.

Thanks for asking, @SummerSazz . I'm down 2.2lbs on last week, so plugging on.

SummerSazz · 07/07/2022 14:13

That's fab @Lougle as I know you've had some stalls along the way! Well done 👏

Sorry been absent again but I have been koko in the background. Had an awful couple of weeks and have somewhat eaten my feelings but have managed to pull it round each time.

I start a new section in my fitness journal diary thingy next week so I'm taking that as a sign. My fitness has definitely improved so now to get my weight to match it.
I'm away in the van next week and got a little local festival the week after so try and sts till next boot camp and then I intend to lose a stone from where I am today.

BIWI · 08/07/2022 09:18

Sorry to hear you've been having a tough time. Hopefully Bootcamp will help you Flowers

Will I need my Big Stick?!

turnaroundtouchtheground · 08/07/2022 09:24

@BIWI I was planning to follow the rules but life happened I suppose! I can’t join the 25 July group because of being away on holiday but I’ll be looking forward to the one after and keeping my carbs low in the meantime.
I am a bit concerned about managing low carb on holiday but will try my best, I’m sure it can be doable with good choices

BIWI · 08/07/2022 09:26

Where are you going on holiday, @turnaroundtouchtheground?

Some countries are definitely easier than others - e.g. Mediterranean food is usually meat/fish with lots of veg and salad.

OP posts:
turnaroundtouchtheground · 08/07/2022 09:28

@BIWI France. Combo of posh self cater in a large group with communal cooking, then camping then city break hotel, so all sorts

ditavonteesed · 08/07/2022 09:42

Would it sound weirdly masochistic if I said I would really appreciate the big stick at the moment.

venusandmars · 08/07/2022 14:01

@ditavonteesed is there anything we can encourage you with (while BIWI waits in the wings with her stick)? Van food ideas - smoked salmon and scambled eggs; asparagus fried in butter with some grated parmesan; burgers with a bag of salad; plan your breakfasts - almond and cheese muffin with peanut butter; avocado crushed onto schneiderbrot bread, well seasoned with olive oil and some tiny bits of tomato; tomato, mozerella and basil salad; or the Rose Elliot granola - find I only need a tiny amount with some full fat greek yogurt. They all fill me up and mean I can make much better choices through the rest of the day.

I've signed up for the new bootcamp but it's my birthday that week and dh has booked a lovely place for lunch preceded by a visit to the Vettriano exhibition

I was planning confit duck legs for dinner tonight (treat because dh and I have been apart all week) but my local supermarket has almost nothing on the duck shelf. Went with chicken legs, but they're not so fatty so they don't 'confit' in the same way OK, a real 1st world, I'm all right Jack problem However I do really notice a) how prices have increased massively - the duck breast, which I didn't buy, was £4.50 for 2 duck 'fillets' - i.e. one duck breast cut in half... and b) how there are sudden gaps in what is available. Things like grease proof paper - empty shelf, toothpaste - empty shelves and a limited range.

ditavonteesed · 08/07/2022 17:26

Ah thanks @venusandmars shows how emotionally unstable I am right now I nearly cried at your post. Yes I need to plan the food for next week and then I might actually feel like going. It's me, dd2 and dh. Dh is veggie. Dd1 is now staying with my parents as can't stay home alone for reasons I won't go into.

Avocado on toast is a great idea for breakfast, Lidl do these smashed avocado packets and I could take seriously low carb bread.
Also can't beat a full fry up.

Have a little ridge monkey, a normal pan and a frying pan.

I need 2 dinners. We are only going for 2 nights a couple of hours away but it feels huge at the moment.

venusandmars · 08/07/2022 17:48

@ditavonteesed I understand, I always think that people being nice to you is so much more likely to make you cry! Sorry, I should have just thwacked you with a stick or a frying pan Grin

Meals for 2 nights in the van with 2 rings and limited utensils: night one I'd do a veg curry (made at home beforehand). You and dd2 can add chopped cooked chicken to yours. dh and dd2 can have rice. They can have popadums. Night 2 I'd do a burger thing. You and dd2 can have lovely homemade things with the most expensive meat you can afford, for one night your dh can deal with a shop-bought veggie burger. Again, make and cook at home, and give them a quick fry when you're there. Buns for them, salad for you all, blue cheese sauce.

Start with some smoked salmon and cream cheese and capers one night and some tuna pate on lettuce for the next night (I think that will help you to feel full and satiatied and less tempted to eat the popadums or to crave a bun with your burger).

ditavonteesed · 08/07/2022 18:18

Thank you, like my own personal life planner. All those meals would go down well with this lot. No more brain space needed.

comfortablyfrumpy · 08/07/2022 19:29

Woo, having plateaued the last 3 weeks I did a midweek weigh abd have shifted another lb.
I would really quite like to shave off another 20lb by Christmas.
Though I may not have many clothes that fit if I do :D

ditavonteesed · 08/07/2022 19:33

@comfortablyfrumpy that's part of the fun, the clothes shopping. Well done.
@venusandmars you inspired me, I wanted comfort food tonight so I made juicy Lucy burgers with blue cheese and a side of good old fashioned shoogled sprouts. Was lush.

Lougle · 08/07/2022 21:15

I went to DD1's prom today (hung around because we all knew she would want to leave early). Staff came into the room I was in and told me to get some food from the catering van because they had too much. I felt really awkward and just couldn't say no, because they've all been so kind. So I went with the least worst option and had a chicken burger. I did manage to politely decline the chips and soft drink. First time I have eaten bread since May. Not all that nice, tbh.

prettybird · 09/07/2022 11:04

Saw this meme and thought of this group. It was ds' graduation this week - didn't manage to get down to where I wanted to be because of a few blips but I managed to do a last little bit and get into the nice Austin Reed silk suit that I'd inherited from my mum. I'll crop ds out of one of the pictures and post it up.

May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - we reach the end!
turnaroundtouchtheground · 10/07/2022 06:51

Morning
I have a question for all of you who did BC and then continue to follow the low carb way of eating afterwards (albeit a bit more relaxed):

Do you get used to the higher level of fat eventually? I’m struggling with it. I had a delicious rib eye steak yesterday marbled with fat and cooked absolutely perfectly. With a salad alongside dressed with lots of olive oil. Mid way through the meal I suddenly felt really sick and revulsed actually, this has never happened to me before! I have been trying to add olive oil to greens etc and have also massively upped my saturated fats compared to pre low carb but I don’t seem to feel that good at all.
Don’t get me wrong there are already positives- hardly any appetite, joint pain gone, skin looks amazing and obviously I’m losing weight.

any tips for me with the fat intake.. can I get enough from oily fish and added olive oil without having to eat saturated fats? 🤢

SummerSazz · 10/07/2022 07:58

@prettybird that is spot on!

@turnaroundtouchtheground I don't add loads of oil to food on BC light. I prefer butter with veg and my lunchtime salads (chicken/tuna/egg etc) often have grated mozzarella & mayo which I find less 'greasy' and obvious. Jealous of your rib eye though!

StuntNun · 10/07/2022 07:59

@turnaroundtouchtheground yes you do get used to a higher fat intake and even start to crave it. You definitely shouldn't be adding so much that it makes you ill though. If you're more than half a stone away from your goal then you can get by with less fat than when you're close to your ideal weight. Often, people find weight loss stalls when they're close to goal and they need to increase their fat intake (by about 15ml oil a day) to get the scales moving again. The sickness and revulsion you describe can happen when people try bulletproof coffees which are almost pure fat.

Can anyone suggest what to have from this menu: http://piazza-firenze.com/menu/dinner.pdf as I'm feeling very uninspired by it. By an unfortunate coincidence I'm going there two nights on the trot next week with different groups. Some Italian restaurants are great for low carb... but this isn't one of them!

turnaroundtouchtheground · 10/07/2022 08:09

Thanks for the replies! Omg I am probably over doing the fat… didn’t think possible!!

Lougle · 10/07/2022 08:21

@turnaroundtouchtheground I only add fat if the food I'm eating doesn't naturally contain it. For example, salad will have a dressing including oil because it doesn't have much fat naturally. An omelette wouldn't because it's cooked in fat. Roast veg is cooked in oil, so I wouldn't put oil on top.

So with your salad and steak, the fat component comes from the steak.

Lougle · 10/07/2022 08:28

@StuntNun I think that menu is quite low carb friendly, actually.

Starters, gamberi (ask to skip the balsamic vinegar), melanzane or Funghi.
Any of the insalatas (skip potatoes or balsamic) or the filet steak.
