Week 8 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - the last week!

BIWI · 20/06/2022 08:28

Morning all Flowers

So we come to the last week. It's funny how 8 weeks can seem such a long time as well as being over so quickly!

Some evident transgressions because of Father's Day or, as I prefer to call it, life. One of the difficult things about successful weight loss is that you have to work at it to keep at it - as @ditavonteesed talks about on the last thread.

Anyway, we have one more week - still time to shed a pesky pound or too.

Good luck everyone.

I hope, very much, that it isn't Covid ditavonteesed - and that you're feeling better very soon.

(Oh, and just to say I won't be around very much this week as DH and I are off to Porto for a few days. A much delayed Christmas present.)

Tiny loss on scales this week but NSV in that trousers that were rididculously small 2 months ago and still too tight 2 weeks ago - especially down the thighs - are fine this morning. I actually thought I had got the wrong pair out and had yo double check.

Livelongandprosper · 20/06/2022 09:03

@comfortablyfrumpy Well done on your NSV! I am down half a pound which I am happy with when you take Father's Day into consideration. The cat is down by just under half a pound. I could tell how happy she was by the way she scratched my leg as I put her down.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 20/06/2022 09:36

Morning all, well done on your NSV @comfortablyfrumpy - that's excellent

Down to 10st 9.5lbs this morning. Had gained last week so I'm half a pound lighter than 2 weeks ago, so I am delighted with that; esp as had a good bit of wine on Friday night
Also an inch down on my waist measurement this week so happy with that

I think when BC officially is over; I'm going to weigh on Friday mornings; as I am good during the week and if I transgress at weekend, I have the week to get over it!

Enjoy Porto @BIWI have been there before with my sister and it was fab

Mercedesbenz2022 · 20/06/2022 09:57

I have sts , but like @comfortablyfrumpy , clothes now fit better , tres strange but I’m not complaining .
koko I have 2.4 lb to lose to hit the next stone down so that is a mini goal to end this final week

if , until a late brunch so looking forward to that ( out with DP )
I am hoping to be really focused this week

ditavonteesed · 20/06/2022 10:17

Excellent nsv @comfortablyfrumpy you definitely need a name change now.
I'm one pound up, which means I'm one pound up this boot camp but that's ok.
So I'm going to talk about maintenance since I've slipped up, maybe help you guys not to, or acknowledge that it happens, it's life.
I got to my target about May last year, then I dropped a bit more to give me a safe zone or a range in which I am happy. I decided the top of that range is 73kg, I know that's not little but I'm 48, I look good at that weight and I feel good.
I still weigh daily, over the Christmas period my weight crept up to 75kg but over January I got it back to range. All good. Except it's crept up since then. Back to around 75kg, actually went up a bit more but I've got it back to 75.

What happens to me is I start to think I need to count calories, I start trying to reduce my fat. I don't know why I do this it's like it's hard wired. The I start thinking about calories. I have no idea why I know if I follow the rules etc it works for me. I have a slightly higher carb tolerance than a lot of people and have to do a carb re feed every couple of weeks due to hypothyroid.

So I thing to acknowledge is that sometimes life happens, keep a close eye on maintenance and fix it as soon as it starts to go pear shaped.

So for me it's back to absolute basics, I know how to do this.

It's not covid so just deciding if I can be bothered to go to the gym or if I should slob about today in advance of night shift tonight.

Newlease · 20/06/2022 10:21

@comfortablyfrumpy @Mercedesbenz2022 well done on your NSV :) I know the feeling of looser fitting clothes after two weeks and the surprise ❤️ especially when my scale doesn’t show much at all in terms of going down. KOKO everyone else. This time I felt like the 8 weeks went without me noticing much. Need to pick up water today, always fall behind on it on weekends.

venusandmars · 20/06/2022 10:33

Have a lovely time away @BIWI

@ditavonteesed I hope you continue to test negative, my covid started with the razorblades throat but it was another day and a half before I tested +ve. I'm virus free again now but still have residual cough and smell / taste are not right.

Brunch - coffee with cream, boiled eggs mashed with butter
D - cold meat, avocado, salad, with oolive oil and mayonnaise; few strawberries and greek yogurt

@lougle I've been eating this way for a long time and it really is a way of life. With very rare exceptions I just don't eat bread, or pasta, or donuts, or pizza. When I'm on maintenance I will have more carbs about once a week - so things like puy lentils, or some peas or beans in a chilli. Or beetroot. Foods that I actually really like, not just the empty carbs of a pudding. I think it was you who wrote about your appetite being reduced - that's another part of my maintenance, continuing to notice when I'm full and not simply carrying on just because something is on my plate or available in the fridge. And continuing to add butter or olive oil to veg, to help me feel full and satisfied.

FinallyHere · 20/06/2022 10:44

Happy Hols @BIWI

And thank you for the look ahead to what maintenance might look like @venusandmars @ditavonteesed

Over the years, I have touched my target weight a number of times but have very quickly fallen head first into a barrel of carbs and really not looked back until well, however much I claim it's about health it's often a fright sight in a mirror that chases me back to bootcamping.

Looking out for tips to avoid those mistakes this time round, it's really helpful to read about other peoples experience. I'm also sure it gets harder with age, so now really would be a good time for me to get with the programme longer term.

The idea of a once a week addition sounds doable: I do like to have a plan even though I have quite some way to go yet.

Good week everyone.

ditavonteesed · 20/06/2022 10:53

@venusandmars I do the opposite of your healthy carbs, I use my re feed to have anything I've been craving. Anything I've always enjoyed and I think knowing I can have it helps with the long term plan for me.

It's interesting to see how others do thing isn't it?
@BIWI have a fab holiday

BIWI · 20/06/2022 10:55

I think one thing to bear in mind is that carbs beget carbs - and suddenly you can find yourself justifying why you're having those roast potatoes, or 'just a small helping of pasta'.

Been there, got many of the t-shirts!

That's not to say that you'll never be able to eat those things again, just be very careful that doing so doesn't lead to a full-on carb fest.

OP posts:
BIWI · 20/06/2022 10:57

Glad to hear you've tested negative @ditavonteesed - but a word of warning: like @venusandmars my covid started with a horrendous sore throat and it was 3 days before I tested positive.

Baystard · 20/06/2022 13:38

Thanks for the thread @biwi, hope you have a lovely and well deserved trip!

I plucked up the courage and got on the scales. Glad I did - 1lb loss from last Monday (which was also a post-weekend-carb-binge weight), so I have to assume that I did more good on the KOKO days than on the off-wagon days. There's a lesson for me!

Great NSV @comfortablyfrumpy

FinallyHere · 20/06/2022 15:30

The bootcamp is really going well for me. Just joining the bootcamp tends to stop me overeating, so it's all good really.

I'm trying to get ahead to be prepared for anytime I crack and eat off plan.

The biggest thing I've learned so far is how often I eat just because it's a meal time, or I'm because a bit bored or stressed and want an excuse to do something more fun than what I'm supposed to be doing. It happens a lot less when I'm eating LCHF because I am satisfied by my meals and do not get that hangry feeling if I go too long without food.

I've been doing the Zoe nutrition project tests at the moment, which means im wearing a blood sugar level monitor so can confirm that my sugar levels are pretty stable regardless of what I eat.

Wondering if anyone else ever finds themselves eating for non-hunger related reasons.

Lougle · 20/06/2022 16:33

Wow @FinallyHere I googled the programme and that sounds so interesting, but it's quite pricey!! How long are you signed up for?

ditavonteesed · 20/06/2022 17:16

@FinallyHere that sounds really interesting. Tell me more, are you in the uk? My googling only gives American stuff.
I had some lovely proper sausages and eggs for breakfast. Beef and courgette for dinner and there was enough left to take for my supper. Also got yoghurt and some marmite cheese for tonight.
Still feeling rough, did another test just to be sure. Not looking forward to my night shift.

StuntNun · 20/06/2022 17:46

My Seriously Low Carb order arrived today, two days late and rather warm. I've chucked the pizzas in the bin but I'm wondering about whether the bread and rolls will be okay after so long at room temperature. For those that had issues with deliveries in the past does they bread develop blue or white mould?

ditavonteesed · 20/06/2022 18:10

@StuntNun that sucks, I have never had any problems with delivery so can't comment but I would think if it looks ok get it in the freezer quick and it should be ok.

APerfectlyGoodName · 20/06/2022 18:15

Well done to losers! Im STS but I think I will weigh tomorrow as I was lower and had carbs+ Saturday.
Carbs beget carbs for sure.

I cannot see a link to the SOF @BIWI

I'm mulling over what to do next week. I don't want to be permanently wanting to lose 'just a bit more' but as I am I'm in between clothes sizes. I was a 12 on top and 14 pants. Now my 12 pant are tight, but 14s are loose.I wonder of those 2-3 lbs would make the 12 comfortable? I would definitely stay as a happy size 12.

I'm a little bored with eggs though!

I'm delighted that all those stalling seem to have moved on a little. Bring on the Summer - school holidays here on Wednesday - and I have 2 months parental leave from work.

APerfectlyGoodName · 20/06/2022 18:18

Bummer Stuntnun - I've not purchased from them so can't advise.

Food:
Creamy coffee
Omlette (Mushroom & cheese)
Creamy cheese cauliflower and ham

Perhaps dark chocolate or Greek yogurt later.

FinallyHere · 20/06/2022 18:49

I can't remember how long SLC bread kept unless frozen, definitely less than a week so maybe three days. I'd risk it ... @StuntNun

Sorry you have missed the pizza. I have a three pack of pepperoni in the freezer for 'an emergency' the nature of which I do not yet know.

@ditavonteesed The zoe project have started to rollout in the uk. They promise the rollout is strictly in the order that expressions of interest were made. I'm pretty sure I was one of the very first to sign up and have only just received the full kit.

The sign up is joinzoe.com/signup/54098. I have not idea how long it takes now, they emailed a couple of times while I was waiting to let me know I was still on the list and to give some idea of the hundreds of thousands of people who had signed up.

@Lougle over the years I have wasted so much time and money on ways to manage my weight and am a sucker for gadgets. Im really enjoying the blood sugar monitor, which links to my phone and has loads of pretty graphs. There is a chat function where they answer questions pretty quickly (within published hours) it's great to be able to ask endless questions.

It was my birthday present to my self this year. I've signed up for a month at a time .... The blood sugar monitor lasts for a fortnight, I won't have tested all the things I want to check for me before it runs out. I'm already wondering whether I can justify buying another one of two. I think of it as the benefits of being old, DC all grown up and working for fun. 😀

SummerSazz · 20/06/2022 20:04

Well done to the losers

I've done ok on reversing 2 holidays and jubilee weekend so 3lb loss overall on this bootcamp and 25lb since Jan. I'm 1lb down on my lowest recorded weight this bootcamp (I was briefly 1lb further down midweek a few weeks ago so that's my next target.

Want to be 2st off for a wedding by the end of July. Slow but sure is my mantra now.....

MerylSqueak · 20/06/2022 20:09

Thank you@BIWI for your reply on the last thread. I love the support of these threads but I think I need to get going before the end of July. I shall go it alone!

SummerSazz · 20/06/2022 20:12

@MerylSqueak those of us continuing usually keep chatting, just without the spreadsheet of doom Grin

comfortablyfrumpy · 20/06/2022 20:21

Well done everyone! Combined, I think we have lost the equivalent at least of a Shetland Pony :)
