Week 8 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - the last week!

Morning all Flowers

So we come to the last week. It's funny how 8 weeks can seem such a long time as well as being over so quickly!

Some evident transgressions because of Father's Day or, as I prefer to call it, life. One of the difficult things about successful weight loss is that you have to work at it to keep at it - as @ditavonteesed talks about on the last thread.

Anyway, we have one more week - still time to shed a pesky pound or too.

Good luck everyone.

I hope, very much, that it isn't Covid ditavonteesed - and that you're feeling better very soon.

(Oh, and just to say I won't be around very much this week as DH and I are off to Porto for a few days. A much delayed Christmas present.)

@Newlease 2 more days - and also most of the rest of my life! I honestly feel so much better eating this way. You (and others in recent posts) have described being busy and missing lunch or breakfast and not feeling hungry THIS is a miracle for me - was previously someone who who be 'hangry' and feeling faint if I missed my 2 biscuits at 10.30 am (ahlfway between brekfast and lunch).

Today, by comparison I had nothing till 10.30. Then coffee with cream; crispy bacon, scrambled egg, mushrooms. Then out and busy all day till 7.30pm when I had fish and FLYB with some green veg (that's a varation on FLGV with butter - which was yellow!)

B - Greek yoghurt, clotted cream, raspberries
L - salad with goats cheese
D - Thai beef mince with broccoli and courgette rice

Fluid: 2 cups tea. 3.75l water.

Lucienandjean · 25/06/2022 22:10

Just discovered my 'headache' is covid 😕.

B: fasting
L: smoked salmon pate on seeded crackers, pepper strips, strawberries and clotted cream.
D: steak cooked in garlic butter, mushrooms, asparagus, avocado.

Loads of water. Feeling a bit under the weather so I'm off to bed.

Lougle · 26/06/2022 07:53

Oh no @Lucienandjean ! I hope you feel better soon.

ditavonteesed · 26/06/2022 08:15

Oh no @Lucienandjean hope it passes quickly.
I still can't believe I haven't got Covid, every day this week I've felt awful, woke up with banging head and sore throat. Friday I could barely drag myself off the sofa all day.

Lucienandjean · 26/06/2022 09:21

@ditavonteesed @Lougle thank you. I don't feel terrible, just a bit fluey I guess. But it's blown a hole in my plans for the coming week, when I was supposed to be going away for a couple of days, and also looking after my grandchildren 😞.

Have fallen off the threads but I am still KOKO and down 6lb in total.

Feeling a bit bored with my food though and in need of some inspiration. I have definitely over done it on the eggs!

Have you been and checked out the recipe threads @glamourousindierockandroll? There should be loads to inspire you there.

But well done on KOKO!

Sorry to hear that you have the 'Rona @Lucienandjean. Hope you're better soon.

And also @ditavonteesed - whether it's Covid or not, it doesn't sound good. So hopefully you're better soon as well.

Porto was wonderful. Can highly recommend - especially if you like fish.

@Lucienandjean Hope it touches you lightly and you feel better soon.

Lougle · 26/06/2022 22:20

B - Greek yoghurt, clotted cream, raspberries
L - skipped (not hungry)
D - roast veg (broccoli, leek, pepper, tomato, green beans) and salmon.

Fluids: 2 cups tea. 4.5l water.

Lougle · 27/06/2022 06:46

Well it's the final weigh day! I'm 3.5lbs (1.6kg) down this week, so I've gone from 69.4kg (153lb) to 62kg (136.7lb). Total loss 7.4kg (16.3lb).

I think low carb suits me, overall. I think the one adjustment I might make during non-bootcamp times is that I'll allow cornflour as a sauce/gravy thickener. I just haven't found a good substitute.

StuntNun · 27/06/2022 07:25

@Lougle I sometimes use thickening granuless* which are still high carb but lower than corn flour and you only need a small amount. Xanthan gum works well in cold recipes such as low carb milkshake or coffee frostinos but I've never managed to get good results with it in hot recipes.

Final - and ongoing - chat thread is here

@venusandmarsI meant final weighing in in 2 more days :) I am thinking this is for me to continue as well, as I am adjusting to non- carb meals so much better than last time around. Saying that it is going to very difficult to stick to it during summer holidays which will be staying over with families ( carb based food all around) but I had few weekends of people staying over in last 2 months and managed not to eat with them and happy for it. In last BC, I used it as a chance for a small portion- basically gave in at few occasions. I am amazed at you guys sticking through this for a long time, and really want to follow that path ! I have another 3-4 Kgs to loose anywaay
