Evening/all morning all

As ever here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Please be aware that this week, like week 3, is likely to see little or no weight loss.

Just KOKO! If it's worked for you in the first two weeks, then it will keep on working for you from here on in.

It's about transitioning from carb burning to fat burning.

Flowers and good luck to us all from next week!

Agree @Baystard I've logged my (LCBC compliant) day so far and I'm already at 20g carbs so I've blown the Atkins target before I even have dinner.

Sorry if this is off-message for LCBC, I don't use food logging as part of this process, more to understand the nutritional make up of food.

I use visualisation too Smile and then I get out the habit even though I know it works Confused

It can also be used to imagine a "future you", eg slim, fit, fitting into a particular outfit, graduating, getting a job/contract, whatever is appropriate. By keeping on visualising that and how you'd feel at that point (happy, proud, comfortable, elated...), it can help you both resist temptation and grasp or see opportunities that you might not have otherwise come across.

@BIWI I’ll second what @missfliss said. Thank you for your time and support 💐 it is really appreciated. Nevermind the nutters, they are everywhere.

@SpottyBumPony sorry for your loss 😢

@TheCurrywurstPrion sometimes life throws insane amount of shit at people and we need to deal with it.I’m sorry what you went through. You don’t have to justify your choices to anybody. A slip up because it helped you cope in very difficult time is nothing.

@BaconOmelette was that you with this very inspiring fruit bowl last week? I was howling with laughter at this picture, so funny.

@ditavonteesed hello fellow nightshifter

I managed to sort out the ipad (turns out every single app was open and poor thing was crashing everyhere. Quick google and Bob’s your uncle, fixed)

Meals are variations of
B:cheese,eggs,ham, Polish fatty bacon, avocado
L: soup or boiled green veg with butter
D: meat/fish with boiled veg or salad.

Still having hunger attacks sometimes in the evening so half a pack of Boursin or couple of large slices of ham satisfy that (conflicts with advice to not to eat at night 🙄)

Made stew at the weekend as had some diced beef. No white wine so added red instead and button mushrooms. Turned out very well.

Trip to the supermarket yesterday resulted in shitload of LCHF food being bought. I invested some money in great looking pork belly slices and ribs that I intend to marinade and grill one day.
Mustard is great for marinade as it tenderises the meat.

I also made my own version of shoogled sprouts- here’s the pic. Parboiled sprouts cut in half and fried on lard with Polish pancetta.

No weight loss for me according to my scales but my waist outline started to appear and the circumference of hips, thigh and arm went down so 💪💪💪

Thank you everybody for the support and motivation 🙂

Hopefully now my IT problem is gone I’ll be more frequent visitor

KOKO losers

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. I’m feeling more cheerful and very much ready to keep going now.

Thanks also to BIWI. It’s amazing how lone voices on Mumsnet can grow into crowds of women working together.

And my excitement for the day: I made shoogled cabbage and ate it for breakfast. First time I’ve cooked using the shoogling technique. It was fabulous.

Thanks again all. It really has made a difference to how I’m feeling.

IMVHO and IME once you've had the first two glasses you'll find it very difficult to swap back

This was my Friday night! Alcohol has an effect on both inhibition (making me think 'you cares') and appetite (making me think 'eat and drink everything'). Not a good combination. I know all this and yet...

LostMyLastHatfulOfWords · 08/02/2022 15:03

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

I will never understand why some people get so aerated about something that doesn't affect them and that they don't have to do. It's not like BIWI roams the streets snatching sandwiches and sausage rolls from unsuspecting passerbys and replacing them with celeriac.

You don't, do you BIWI?! Blush

Thank-you for the smile Greebols!

(And thank-you BIWI for helping change quite a few lives for the better.)

ferntwist · 08/02/2022 15:09

Thank you for your questions @BIWI. I don't have a medical condition other than unexplained high blood pressure, which I developed at 35 out of the blue, despite running half marathons and doing long-distance cycling. I've had a lot of tests and doctors had said it was just down to a bad gene. It made my pregnancies very high risk and I got pre-eclampsia with DC1.

My new cardiologist seems to want to do more to try to get to the bottom of it. My cholesterol is also too high at 6 and I have a fat tummy.
I'm 176cm, 147lbs and BMI 21.5. I hope that this WOE will help me cut cholesterol, lose my fat tummy and drop my blood pressure. I'm on medication for that at the moment.

Thank you for showing an interest Smile

ferntwist · 08/02/2022 15:09

I’m still breastfeeding as well but not exclusively

Newlease · 08/02/2022 15:23

@mirpuppet That recipe sounds amazing, code or any other soft fish fillets would work with coconut oil. Tipalia ( Seen in Costo and Asda freezer) is very yummy as well. I add some chilli powder when frying in pan and add some whole spices in coconut milk. Take it to a different level. Haven’t tried these on LCing, thanks for the reminder. And that noodles looks good. I am keeping all low carb stuff at a bay, until the bootcamp is done ✅

Past two days went well, despite getting a slight side of covid and no idea whether I will cop on LC with it. Hanging on the thread as still
Negative( kids positive, so kinda waiting game). Managed to make a big bowl of chicken soup today with mushrooms and broccoli. Funny thing is I started with a taco chicken soup recipe, but my soups always end up in this www.allrecipes.com/recipe/80694/hot-and-sour-chicken-soup/
Which is yummy but I need to try different soups, fussy eater here. I have omitted all cauliflower cheese recipes until last week and can’t believe I never tried it before and made it twice now. Need to try out new stuff..

Newlease · 08/02/2022 15:25

Meant to say cod Hmm

CeleriacOfTheNight · 08/02/2022 16:01

Catching up with the thread- Flowers for everyone finding life tough at the moment, and hi fives to all the losers (some fab results!). I was another STS this week, but it's fine

Grin

Had a fridge clear and clean today so ended up making soup out of a bit of onion, a massive bag of opened spinach that had been allowed to go wrinkly, a bunch of past it's best parsley and a hunk of suspicious looking Gorgonzola. Oh and a stock cube that was either veg or chicken, and some double cream, a mere nine days out of date Blush

Well of course Sod's law dictates that's it's absolutely delicious and totally un- recreatable.

LostMyLastHatfulOfWords · 08/02/2022 16:08

@ShangPie

Thanks *@BIWI* for the gentle poke of the Big Stick Grin

I am certainly less obsessed with fruit / sweet things IRL than my posts may suggest. My DS had a tangerine last night and the smell was so good… plus I have some fennel in the fridge to eat up, hence my question.

Cutting out fruit is the part of BC I find the hardest, and I miss the zing and crunch more than the sweetness. I am very careful about eating it on BCL, honest!

Orange scented shower gel works for me. Orange is wonderful even if you are not actually eating it.

(I am a new-bread sniffer when the family loaf is just baked. I eat plenty of other things and just enjoy the scent. Bread smells so much more wonderful than it actually tastes and it seems that there are no carbs in sniffs.)

Jezzballs2000 · 08/02/2022 16:12

Sorry you got trolled @BIWI but nice to see all the support in the group!

@TheCurrywurstPrion glad you're feeling a bit more cheerful!

Ive got some smoked haddock for tonight- any inspiration? I was thinking made a sort of fish cake with riced cauliflower?

I am feeling tired and lethargic and not lost weight in fact today I seem to have added more on which I wasn't expecting. I think I need to up my water and fats so will try to track them.

I would be very interested in thoughts on this calculator from Diet Whisperer - the couple that wrote that article about LC that @BIWI posted a few threads ago. I wonder if this is the formula to follow?

dietwhisperer.com/calculators

B cream and berries- not ideal but i was feeling a bit nauseous with hunger and it was quick. I suspect this means my blood sugar was low and i'm out of ketosis ...
L great lunch of garlic chicken caesar salad with avocado
D smoked haddock in some capacity

Benvolio · 08/02/2022 16:49

I'm also v grateful for the patience and knowledge with which BIWI wields her big stick. I love knowing WHY things work or don't work. And I would definitely said oh sod it, were it not for all of you. I've lurked lcbc often, but never got this far Blush

Thanks for the links to Monya P. Can't remember who, but Downloaded the first book for 99p on kindle and I want to cook lots of it.

Yes, I'm a knitter! Current UFO (unfinished object) count: about 8, shamefully. I'm quite excited about a slightly bat-winged alpaca-silk raspberry sweater I'm making that I intend to actually finish before it gets too warm.

Off for more fizzy water and lime juice squeeze now.

Feeling sort of thinner, maybe, and definitely less hungry.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/02/2022 16:50

Not sure about that calculator, seemed to suggest I should be eating an awful of carbs to keep my weight stable?

I love smoked haddock! I normally cook it in butter, then pour the buttery juices into some boiled celeriac and mash it up. I then serve the haddock on top of the celeriac mash, and top the fish with some buttery wilted spinach and a fried egg. Plus lots of salt and pepper. 😋

And I now want that for dinner, but I've promised to make fajitas (lettuce leaf wraps for mine!)

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 08/02/2022 17:01

Blimey - that calculator shows my daily carb allowance at 16g for a loss Shock that's one avocado.

I think I'm going to ignore that!

Jezzballs2000 · 08/02/2022 17:08

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal. that sounds delicious and less faff than fish cakes, i'll do that! Inadvertent all the ingredients which is a sign. Do you just fry the haddock in butter? and i've never cooked celeriac before, is a third a good amount for one?

My carbs are about 20g on the calculator which feels very low.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/02/2022 17:12

Yes, I either fry it in butter, or pop it in a buttered oven proof dish, with a splash of milk and more butter on top, then stick it in a medium oven for about 20 mins.

I don't know about celeriac amounts, I usually use a couple of handfuls of the Waitrose frozen, pre-diced stuff!

CrystalTits · 08/02/2022 17:22

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal WHAT? Waitrose do frozen diced celeriac?

What with the Cheesies that arrived this week I'm not sure that I can cope with two gamechangers in as many days... Grin

Wilkolampshade · 08/02/2022 17:24

Yeah I get 20g carbs for a loss by that calculator, which sadly seems to be about right...More realistically I try and get under 30 though. Means I can't eat what I would consider really huge piles of veg atm which would make life easier but hey ho... 😥

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/02/2022 17:25

YES!! Makes life so much easier. I've never tried peeling and chopping a celeriac, and I can't say I'm in a hurry to start.

CrystalTits · 08/02/2022 17:35

I can't be trusted with a sharp knife, unfortunately - I'm too impatient and it ends badly - so I use my food processor to thinly slice it. But how amazing to just reach into a bag and not have to bother with peeling either! Thank you for the heads up.

As an indication of my impatience I totally thought I could make celeriac dauphinoise from memory the other day, added WAAAAAY too much cream and didn't cook the celeriac in the pan for long enough to soften it. Final result resembled a cream lake with a cheese island in the middle. Tasted good but I will be following the recipe next time!

mirpuppet · 08/02/2022 17:51

@Jezzballs2000 to see the smoked haddock what about low carb kedgeree? www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=low+carb+kedgeree&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I like the recipes from fatsoflife but always add a bit more spice.

BIWI · 08/02/2022 18:12

@Newlease

I'm not quite sure what you mean about this:

And that noodles looks good. I am keeping all low carb stuff at a bay, until the bootcamp is done

Are you worried that these are somehow fake food? I can assure you that konjac, or shirataki noodles, as they're known, are a very traditional Japanese noodle!

There's a bit here in Wiki about them

OP posts:
ShangPie · 08/02/2022 18:43

@LostMyLastHatfulOfWords thanks for the suggestions! I already use the ‘smell is always better than the taste’ approach for fish and chips, so should be ok to stretch to include citrus fruit.

That calculator tells me I should have 17g carbs for a loss Shock which seems pretty crazy.

Somehow didn’t eat (except creamy coffee) until 2.30pm today. I was distracted with workmen in the house but that has not happened for a very long time. Made up for it with creamy shoogled cabbage, a sausage and some broccoli as a weird mid-afternoon brunch.

Coq au vin with celeriac mash for dinner. Yum!
