Week 3 - Jan 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light or not?

BIWI · 30/01/2022 22:46

So now you have several choices:

  • move on to Bootcamp Light for the next 6 weeks, which means allowing nuts/seeds, fruit and alcohol all in moderation!
  • a hybrid, where you do Bootcamp during the week, but relax and follow Bootcamp Light at the weekend
  • stay on Bootcamp, if it's suiting you

Bear in mind that weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes 5) are infamous for seeing little or no weight loss - indeed sometimes you may see a gain.

Whatever you decide, here's the spreadsheet for you to declare all!

I hope very much that you will see good results from the last two weeks (or the last 3 or 4 weeks, depending on when you started!)

And now this week's challenge!

Like me I'm betting you all have several cookbooks that you rarely use. Go and find one that you haven't used for ages and choose a recipe that is or could be low carb and post it here.

You may have to change some of the ingredients, but that's fine! Let's all look for something that inspires us to cook something new/different.

Here's to a successful week 3 Flowers

That's really encouraging @Newlease - here's to a loss after plateauing! Even if that's a few weeks away. I am sticking with it as I know how much better I will feel when I fit into my 'normal' clothes again, even though I was moaning this morning Grin

The daft thing is, I don't feel deprived as I am eating so well! Just annoying that DH is still losing when I'm not. But I know we're all different and my goal is to feel good for a wedding in May. Our old lodger, who lived with us for four years, is getting married then. I want to feel good on the day and just have a fun day with DH (we've booked a hotel and we're staying overnight). I know how much better I feel when I'm confident in my size, so I don't want to lose sight of that.

queenofcauliflower · 31/01/2022 22:32

@CrystalTits

Morning. 1.8lb off this week to add to last week's surprising 3lb. I'm well happy. Getting used to drinking all. the. water. and am planning to stay on bootcamp with the possible transgression of a couple of the M&S seed crackers (3g carbs) with cheese. Managed a cheese and wine evening with friends on Saturday where I just had cheese and celery with a Tanqueray 0% gin, soda and a spritz of lime juice. Not bad.

Also placed an order for several bags of Montezuma's peanut butter mini eggs which use their 100% absolute black chocolate and are 8g carbs. Figured one of those mini eggs if I succumb to chocolate cravings won't do too much damage. But if @BIWI needs to get out the Big Stick then I'll comply ;)

Hello @CrystalTits - I think the M&S crackers are 3g carbs per 100g crackers so about 1-1.5g for 5 or 6 of them (not sure if you thought they were 3g carbs each cracker?).

I've had another good day and I am in a good routine of 18:6 or 19:5 intermittent fasting with eating window of 1.30-6.30pmish.

L: leftover roast chicken, coleslaw & leaveas. Greek yoghurt.
T: Meatballs in homemade tomato sauce with lots of mozzarella cheese

3l water

I am going out for the day tomorrow so think I'll try and remember to boil & peel some eggs before I go.

Hello, please can I join the thread?

I have never done a low carb way of eating before and have found all the information really useful so thank you very much. I have been trying to lose some weight for a while with various different strategies but none were effective and I have noticed I am steadily creeping up in weight so when I saw a thread elsewhere on mumsnet about this bootcamp I thought I'd see what it's about.

I started bootcamp on the 17th and have been following along but haven't added myself to the spreadsheet. The threads have been great for some reassurance, meal inspiration and helping to keep me on track. I have generally found things good so far apart from one low day last week but i haven't gone 'off plan' so i'm hoping I can stay on the wagon. I was scared to join initially because I'll often throw myself into something, then get frustrated with myself for not immediately performing as i think i should but i'm hoping by posting here i'll help keep myself accountable.

I lost 7.5lbs during week 1 and 3lbs in week 2 which i have found a bit disappointing after a great first week... but then i look at 10.5lbs in 2 weeks and wonder what i'm thinking. My clothes feel looser, i've lost at least one of my chins and a big wedge of back fat. I'm a bit nervous about not losing anything in weeks 3 & 4 and the impact that might have on my commitment to this woe so I'll be sticking with bootcamp with perhaps a day or 2 of bootcamp lite to keep things going.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 01/02/2022 06:51

Welcome @Tellmeagain Smile

I've got a nice day ahead, wfh so always easier to manage food and water.

B: sausage eggs and mushrooms
L: salad
D: homemade broccoli and blue cheese soup

AThroneOfLies · 01/02/2022 07:03

Marking place but haven’t yet caught up on week 2 thread as I’ve been feeling so unwell with Covid.
Hoping I turn a corner over next few days.
Will try and catch up asap!

Baystard · 01/02/2022 07:11

Thanks for sharing that @Newlease, I'm at the getting-discouraged phase now, but I'm going to KOKO and hopefully it'll pass soon.

ditavonteesed · 01/02/2022 07:25

Hmmm dug these out of the cupboard all the talk inspired me, no whether I actually do it is a while other question but at least I know where they are.

I have a surprise gig tonight, friend had a spare ticket. What would be safe to drink, I normally totally avoid drinking so haven't really bothered working out what's low carb.

Stay the same for me which I'm happy with.

ThatsAllFolks · 01/02/2022 07:31

Vodka, gin, whisky with soda and or ice?

SummerSazz · 01/02/2022 07:51

I'm a bit annoyed this morning but will get over my petulant strop and be good I promise!

Was 12st 0.1lb on the scales yesterday with a hint of 11 flashing up so thought today I'd see the 11 proper. Nope, the 12 was firmly planted. I had such a good day yesterday and drank loads of water. However I suspect I may not have eaten enough which has happened to me before on LCHF and I stall. Just need to work out the equilibrium.

Jezzballs2000 · 01/02/2022 08:01

Good morning all, welcome @Tellmeagain! That's a really great loss. Keep at it!

I've decided to properly track macros for a few days to try and make sure i'm getting enough fat. It's also a reminder how sneaky the carbs are (i'm looking at you tea with milk) so am going to try and be really on it for this week.

I finally weighed myself and have gone up a little bit but it's about 100g so not beating myself up just motivated to double down. I ate relatively well over the weekend at my in laws but did have carbs and felt awful on it. I need better strategy for my next visit inc some LC bread so I can just eat along with them without feeling self conscious.

So today's plan is

B greek yoghurt and cream, tea coffee (need to work out how to introduce fibre into this otherwise brilliant breakfast)
L cabbage veg soup with chorizo
D salmon and the famous cheese sauce with FTGV

All the water!

Jezzballs2000 · 01/02/2022 08:03

Oh and i am see some great recipes out there, esp for cabbage! This one looks like a great option for any meal. I'll try it and report back.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 01/02/2022 08:05

Morning everyone, had to go away for a few days to look after an ill relative so LC has slipped a bit, even though I tried to do what I could at meal times. Not enough water either and no exercise, so all in all not great. Back home now and back on it with a vengeance, but giving the scales a swerve for this week!

Monsieur Sainsbury's is on his way so very soon I'll have a fridge filled with LC goodies!

Today's plan:
B: coffee
L: home made cream of chicken soup
D: going to try cheeseburger pie with buttered broccoli

Off to catch up with the thread now.

BIWI · 01/02/2022 08:23

Welcome @Tellmeagain! Your loss has been amazing Flowers

Down be downhearted if you don't see a loss in weeks 3 and/or 4 - you know it could happen, so just be prepared for it, mentally. And be prepared practically too - make sure you have planned plenty of low carb meals for those weeks, and keep the water flowing.

For extra accountability, if you're concerned you might slip, why not add yourself to the spreadsheet?

But also, of course, keep posting here! Always someone around and lots of help and support as well as ideas.

(And tell me, honestly, how many diet threads do you read where there are so many lovely, tasty and inspiring ideas for food?!)

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 01/02/2022 08:43

@SummerSazz I always find there's a couple of days delay between good/bad behaviour and being rewarded/punished by the scales. It's been a trigger in the past for me to either say "fuck it, the diet's not working" or "oh look, I can eat a vat of ice cream and get away with it". Neither is in fact true. You'd think an intelligent adult like me would have realised that a lot earlier than I did...

NigellaAwesome · 01/02/2022 09:16

@MrsTerryPratchett that beef stew looks fantastic! I think I will make it tonight.

Apologies for being quiet on the ski pant front yesterday @Baystard and @WitchWand. I was working until 10pm yesterday. I finally finished the house project and my new tenants are collecting the keys this morning. DH apologised profusely for being a knob and stepped up and made dinner in the end. I took photos yesterday and the ski pants are still uncomfortably tight. In fact I think they might even be tighter than they were last week but here are the photos anyway, with last week (snakeskin top) for comparison.

FrenchBoule · 01/02/2022 10:25

Hello @Tellmeagain and well done on your weight loss 🙂

@MrsTerryPratchett I can’t see your fab beef stew? I have a pack of diced beef in the freezer that could come handy.

I hope all covid sufferers will get better soon.

@NigellaAwesome good that DH has apologised. Totally with you on clothes front- tried shorts and skirt I wore last summer and… they are still too tight. I have a bib blob of belly and diastis recti (don’t know how big) so haven’t got a clue how to check it and what exercises would be good and not damaging.

I didn’t put myself on google spreadsheets- apparently I signed up for it ages ago and my password is rejected 🤷‍♀️ Another reason is that my scales are wonky and being wankers. I operate in kg’s so 67 or bang on 10.5 stones.

I want to lose at least a stone.

I’ve been mostly good except wine at last weekend. Absolutely zero bread, rice, pasta or potatoes.

Zero weight loss after 2 weeks. Oh well. Keep going, I HAVE TO DO IT!!!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 01/02/2022 10:35

I've got that painful, bloated feeling again that I had over the weekend. I'm one litre of water down already so might go for a quick brisk walk to see if that helps.

KEEP GOING @FrenchBoule!

ditavonteesed · 01/02/2022 10:37

I did it, I did the shred, I made the mistake of trying with 3kg weights at first and quickly swapped to 1kg, wonder if I'll be able to move at all later.

BIWI · 01/02/2022 10:44

@FrenchBoule - do you want me to put you on the spreadsheet?

Also, when did you start? Did you start before the 'official' start date - i.e. are you in weeks 3 & 4 when it's quite normal to see little or no weight loss?

If not, and you have only been doing this for two weeks, list out for me what you've been eating and drinking over the last few days and let me see if there's anything I can help you with.

OP posts:
BIWI · 01/02/2022 10:46

I’ve been mostly good except wine at last weekend

So you haven't been good then?! Grin

This WOE is not very forgiving. It's especially important to follow the rules in the first two weeks, as this is what will transition your body into fat-burning as opposed to carb-burning. The more strict you are, the quicker this will happen.

OP posts:
CrystalTits · 01/02/2022 11:18

@queenofcauliflower Thank you - I was quoting per 100g (and same for the peanut butter choc eggs, 8g per 100g! Whoop!) but that's really helpful of you to post how many equate to about a gram of carbs. I try not to rely on them but it just gives a bit of substance to the cheese plate IYSWIM.

Today I'm feeling a bit hacked off as my eczema massively improved in the first fortnight, especially the redness and swelling (so much so that I could get my wedding rings back on after several months). But today my hands are itchy again, and my under eye area also irritated. I can't work out what's flaring it up, I thought it was gluten and/or sugar but now I'm not so sure. Didn't have a particularly dairy-heavy day yesterday either. Anyway I'm going to keep flushing it through with water and hope for the best... Confused

NigellaAwesome · 01/02/2022 11:28

@CrystalTits very often dairy is the culprit behind eczema. Have you ever tried completely eliminating it to see if there is a correlation?

CrystalTits · 01/02/2022 11:53

@NigellaAwesome not in recent years. I would definitely give it a go but I think for the moment I'll accept the improvement and perhaps not go too overboard on cream and yoghurt, just keep a bit of cheese in the WOE. Honestly it's bloody depressing - I can manage perfectly well without all the other baddies but a life without proper butter and good cheese just seems joyless...

Thank you for responding to my little rant. I really appreciate that.

prettybird · 01/02/2022 12:27

@FrenchBoule - @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal successfully worked on closing her diastis recti and lost a shedload of weight (and just as importantly, has kept it off Wink). Maybe she can pop in and give some guidance about the exercises she did Smile

venusandmars · 01/02/2022 12:41

Busy day today, which always makes I/F easier.

B - coffee
L - mozerella, avocado, tomato, basil
D - green stuff from the veg box (beans, kale, cabbage) in the lovely cheese sauce
