Week 3 - Jan 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light or not?

BIWI · 30/01/2022 22:46

So now you have several choices:

  • move on to Bootcamp Light for the next 6 weeks, which means allowing nuts/seeds, fruit and alcohol all in moderation!
  • a hybrid, where you do Bootcamp during the week, but relax and follow Bootcamp Light at the weekend
  • stay on Bootcamp, if it's suiting you

Bear in mind that weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes 5) are infamous for seeing little or no weight loss - indeed sometimes you may see a gain.

Whatever you decide, here's the spreadsheet for you to declare all!

I hope very much that you will see good results from the last two weeks (or the last 3 or 4 weeks, depending on when you started!)

And now this week's challenge!

Like me I'm betting you all have several cookbooks that you rarely use. Go and find one that you haven't used for ages and choose a recipe that is or could be low carb and post it here.

You may have to change some of the ingredients, but that's fine! Let's all look for something that inspires us to cook something new/different.

Here's to a successful week 3 Flowers

Well done everyone.

I’m down 3lbs this morning so 6lbs overall in just under two weeks (I started a bit late). Feeling reassured now but I definitely had a sulk when the scales showed a little gain on Friday. I’ve added in intermittent fasting since then (16:8), which is helping me to resist the temptation to keep grazing in the evening.

Thanks for all the advice, recipes and encouragement.

ShangPie · 31/01/2022 08:19

Just 0.8lb loss for me this week, but I wasn’t very strict - had Burns Night supper and ate out for an early Chinese New Year celebration (I ate the fillings, not the dumpling wrappers!), plus a few small glasses of wine.

Still lost another 1cm off my waist and it’s almost 7lb off total, so I will KOKO. Think the hybrid BC / BC Lite weekends will suit me, as I am missing crunch and fruit.

Love the recipe book challenge! Will get into it this morning and meal plan up a storm

Baystard · 31/01/2022 08:33

Well done everyone!

This week I've lost 1 lb. On one hand I'm feeling a bit disappointed they've not moved more, on the other hand I know that having been generally strict about LC, plus been IF, plus some weights - so there likely is a bit more muscle. My waist doesn't feel very different but upper body definitely feels less bulky and my arms have some definition, and I think there's a slight reduction in my legs.

I'm going to KOKO with a mixture of bootcamp and bootcamp light.

The real question though is... how are those salapettes nigellaAwsome ?!

Wilkolampshade · 31/01/2022 08:34

Still up here on my plateau at the end of my 3rd week. I'm quietly chuffed as had a period and 2 very difficult family visits to navigate over the week end, the first to a BiL, SiL and their new baby, cue boggling levels of PFB, and also, (this is weird) SiL takes it on herself to gaze dotingly down at 4 month old DN and announce "He' s going to be the healthiest, SLIMMEST and fittest boy". Its not the first time she's said something like this, and anyway, maybe he will maybe he won't, either way was a bit Hmm Then a second visit to DB who announced his divorce. My Dad, staying with him atm, also took the opportunity to get shouty and abusive, as he likes to. It was all a bit grim.
Managed not to fall off the wagon but only but not eating at all for large chunks of time.
Home now. So so glad. Going for a nice long walk with my lovely doggo through my lovely city as the sun comes up. Will smile to myself like a crazy old lady and heal.
Good luck this week all. Flowers

missfliss · 31/01/2022 08:54

Have lost another couple of pounds this week - had a small transgression where I ate some blueberries and cream / 2 squares of 85% chocolate.

I know the next fortnight is going to be tough - weight stayingvstill or possibly small gain, also coincides with the progesterone element of my HRT and PMT ( both of which make me tireder, hungrier and retain water).

I think I'll just do bootcamp light as I feel like it - so the default is not bootcamp light but if I have days where I fancy some nuts or fruit then I'll allow it

ouchmyfeet · 31/01/2022 08:57

Half a pound off for me this week but I don't even deserve that given my food choices this weekend so I'm chalking last week up to experience and trying harder this week. Ratatouille already out of the freezer this morning and I will have it with a chunk of protein when everyone else tucks into Irish stew and spuds later

mistywillow17 · 31/01/2022 09:02

Morning all. 6.6 pounds off in total so far, which I am so pleased about. More importantly, I have happy with myself for finally properly sticking with bootcamp past the first week.
I'm going to stick mainly to full-on bootcamp, but may allow myself some raspberries occasionally. I'm planning to extend Dry January into February as I'm feeling so much healthier without any booze.

I love the recipe idea - I have a massive stash of untried recipes torn out of foodie magazines (two big files full) and most of them have the carb count listed on them which is helpful.
Good luck this week everyone.

Fleecy · 31/01/2022 09:19

Do you know, actually I'm pissed off now! I know @BIWI has said to expect a plateau in week three, but I have now found out DH has still lost loads. I've told him I don't want to know. I feel really cross about it right now. I've been so careful and mindful and have drunk loads of water. He's eaten loads of nuts, cream and butter with everything, a Snickers and a takeaway and has still lost.

Please tell me I'm not the only one...

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 31/01/2022 09:22

Good morning!

Thanks for the new thread BIWI.

I stayed the same this week, which is ok. I suppose.

I'll have a look through my cookbooks later!

APerfectlyGoodName · 31/01/2022 09:24

Regular weighed here and teetered around 168 all week. Above and below it. Then this morning 170! Up 2lbs in a day! So I'm claiming the 168 - down 1.4lbs.
Ready for week 3.

BIWI · 31/01/2022 09:24

@Fleecy it's maddening, isn't it?! But it will catch up with him in the end.

Best thing is just to ignore him Wink

Morning all!

1 1/2 pounds off this week, which I am pleased with. That brings me to 12.5 lbs off in total, and a third of the way of what I would really like to lose.

As a daily weigher, you get used to seeing about the same weight each day, and I honestly thought I had stayed the same until I looked up last week's weight on the spreadsheet. Thanks @ouchmyfeet.

Will post ski trouser pics later. I can't see much improvement, but I think I may have some hormonal bloating going on. I'm very thankful that I am not totally relying getting into these. Hopefully in 2 weeks time I will be on the slopes!

Have a good week all, and @BIWI, as ever, thank you.

BIWI · 31/01/2022 09:26

The other thing about Bootcamp Light, or even Bootcamp itself going forward, is that you no longer have to eat breakfast (or three meals a day) if you prefer not to.

Intermittent fasting is a really good way to speed up weight loss, and as now we're all - hopefully - well on our way to being fat-adapted, rather than burning carbs for fuel - you should find it easy to drop a meal a day. Doesn't have to be every day though. The maxim is still the same - if you're hungry, then eat something. Low carb, obviously!

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 31/01/2022 09:26

We'll done all.

Just 0.8lb off but it's my week 3 and I've been doing the 30 day shred so have lost 1 inch off my waist so overall not too bad.

Booking holiday at Easter today. Proper fancy hotel beach job so will be very motivated to get in shape for that!

prettybird · 31/01/2022 09:29

Not sure I'm going to be able to join in this week's challenge: I'm planning on a week of "eating out of the freezer". So, sausages tonight, cheeseburger pie, stir fry using a single chicken breast, green soup using some of the many tubs of stock lurking in the freezer (also using the bag of chopped spinach in the freezer as for some reason I have two Confused). If ds comes down at the weekend (the Scotland-England game - but he's also due to be playing himself, so is conflicted), we'll have roast chicken (his favourite). If he decides to play rather than go to the 6 Nations game, then I'll have a think about doing something different. But it would need to be simple/quick to prepare as I'd be going over to Murrayfield myself.

BIWI · 31/01/2022 09:29

I have a challenging week this week with no less than 3 lunches out Shock, and then drinks with our neighbours on Friday evening. Hopefully the eating part of it will be OK, but swerving the wine is going to be more difficult Hmm.

Oh well. It's a tough job and all that ...

2.5lb down here. 29.5lb in total. I was hoping for 3 as I hit 2.5 on Thursday and haven't budged since but 2.5 is still good and I need to remember that. Jeans feeling loose too though it's still a while to fitting into the next size down. Quite a busy and stressful week coming up so need to stay focused and remember than eating carbs isn't going to make it any calmer or less stressful, more likely the opposite!

BIWI · 31/01/2022 09:31

Wow 29.5lbs is amazing! Flowers

Thanks. I started mid Nov and took Christmas off. It's about a third of what I need to lose and it does feel like a good start. I'm not hungry, I have more energy and I'm sleeping better.
UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 31/01/2022 09:42

Awesome @Purpletomato - inspirational!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 31/01/2022 09:43

@fleecy ignore your DH - I have one of those at home as well. KOKO.

ChiefDogsbody · 31/01/2022 09:49

@fleecy @UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea me too! He's just decided to join me, but his version of LC includes fruit juice, sugary yoghurt, ice cream, and booze. He will lose more than me and faster he's got more to lose so whatever works for him I guess

0.5lbs off this week here which is a blinking miracle considering the tasting menu at the weekend, struggled to keep up with the water too which is annoying as I'd been so on it all week. But another 2.5cm off the waist so still really pleased with that.

Can anyone give me ideas of something to rice other than cauliflower? I'm thinking broccoli works but anything else? Would like to mix things up a bit.

BSky · 31/01/2022 09:50

Totally awesome @Purpletomato

Well done to all the losses & NSVs. Feeling inspired to knuckle down this week.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 31/01/2022 09:58

Well done losers!

STS here, which is fine. Showing an inch or so off my waist so happy with that

Fleecy · 31/01/2022 10:03

I've asked him not to tell me any more, unless I ask. So I need to be disciplined and not ask!

Wish I'd measured and could use inches.

Glad I'm not the only one.

Wowsers @Purpletomato - that's amazing! Well done!
