Week 3 - Jan 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light or not?

BIWI · 30/01/2022 22:46

So now you have several choices:

  • move on to Bootcamp Light for the next 6 weeks, which means allowing nuts/seeds, fruit and alcohol all in moderation!
  • a hybrid, where you do Bootcamp during the week, but relax and follow Bootcamp Light at the weekend
  • stay on Bootcamp, if it's suiting you

Bear in mind that weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes 5) are infamous for seeing little or no weight loss - indeed sometimes you may see a gain.

Whatever you decide, here's the spreadsheet for you to declare all!

I hope very much that you will see good results from the last two weeks (or the last 3 or 4 weeks, depending on when you started!)

And now this week's challenge!

Like me I'm betting you all have several cookbooks that you rarely use. Go and find one that you haven't used for ages and choose a recipe that is or could be low carb and post it here.

You may have to change some of the ingredients, but that's fine! Let's all look for something that inspires us to cook something new/different.

Here's to a successful week 3 Flowers

I’ve just this minute finished a book set in Glasgow which included the word ‘shoogly’ several times. I guessed it must be related to ‘shoogle’.

SpottyBumPony · 06/02/2022 10:49

@Baystard is your username from Shit Eventers Unite?

APerfectlyGoodName · 06/02/2022 10:51

Still in bed here. Blush
But an online shop done! Delivery tomorrow after school.
My 9yo brought me coffee in bed. DH (who is working) taught him how. Feelin' the love here.
Putting a slow roast in the oven.

I0NA · 06/02/2022 10:54

@BestIsWest - yes like a shoogly ( wobbly) table.

Or it can be metaphorical.

“ his jaicket’s on a shoogly peg “ ( his jacket is on a wobbly peg )

means that someone is about to get kicked out of somewhere - usually a job or a relationship. Somewhere you would hang up your outdoor jacket inside the door when you go in - so not a shop / club / team.

prettybird · 06/02/2022 10:54

It is. "Shoogly" just the adjective adjective as opposed to the verb Grin There's an expression "His jaiket is on a shoogly nail" ("His jacket is on a wobbly nail"), meaning that someone's job is not secure he's on a warning Shock

Was that "Shoogy Bain" you were reading? ("Shoogy" is a nickname for "Hugh"). It's a harrowing but compelling read - totally outwith my experience (I'm Bearsden/Milngavie bred Wink) - but an awful lot of it was close to dh's life Sad

prettybird · 06/02/2022 10:55

Cross posted with you @IONA Grin

BestIsWest · 06/02/2022 11:07

@prettybird and @IONA no it was 1979 by Val McDermid. Shoogy Bain is on my list though. And there you go again with ‘outwith’ Grin

One of my best friends is Aberdonian so has treated me to a few Scots words over the years.

prettybird · 06/02/2022 11:10

My dad queried ds using "outwith" in his dissertation. Both dh, ds and I said that it's a good Scottish word and he's at a Scottish Uni so it's. staying. Grin

2022sucksalready · 06/02/2022 11:20

Adds shoot Bain to reading list.

I’ve done wagamamas in the past and had the chicken salad bowl thing minus the glass noodles and with a side of the wilted greens (which are amazing). Five guys do a great no bun burger, they wrap it in lettuce for you instead, though I think of them more as a takeaway than an eat in sort of thing.

I got my first ever odd box delivered this morning. You could ask them to exclude certain veg, so I’d ticked no potatoes (can’t remember what the other was, probably carrots and parsnips). It’s great, has a giant celeriac, nice mixed salad, some pea shoots, endives, and a few other bits. They sent a swede to replace the potatoes. Think I’ll carry on with it for now. I like the idea of using up odd/over stock stuff, rather than it getting tossed out. Also like the element of surprise, makes you think about new recipes. I’m thinking endive, blue cheese and walnut salad with dinner tonight.

2022sucksalready · 06/02/2022 11:21

Bloody autocorrect. Shoogy Bain (damn thing just tried to change it to snoopy that time Grin )

Pleaseandthankyou · 06/02/2022 11:32

I put a pastrami joint in the slow cooker on Friday. Had it hot with veg when I came in from work. Made the most gorgeous peppery soup yesterday with the stock and a selection of veg from the fridge. Have plenty left for the week ahead. I tried sliced cabbage cooked in butter last week for the first time. How did I get to this age without realising this was a thing. Might even be better than shoogled sprouts.

Benvolio · 06/02/2022 11:36

Morning, and a lazy one for me too. The only day in the week I don't have to scarper to work at the crack of dawn and I am a night owl so it's a treat.

Loving the Scottish chat. I'm going to read Shuggy Bain, which I've been putting off as can't bear too much misery at the moment.

Just heard DD19 probably has malaria and she's v far away, but she's cheerful and has access to good medical support. But still.

Benvolio · 06/02/2022 11:38

Shoogy

Baystard · 06/02/2022 11:38

@SpottyBumPony Is your pony really a Twataloosa? (Shiteventers get everywhere Grin )

Benvolio · 06/02/2022 11:48

Nope, Shuggie!

BIWI · 06/02/2022 12:08

Sorry to hear about your DD @Benvolio - hope she's OK Shock

I had a bit of an unexpected start to the day, as had to take DS1 (29) to an emergency dental appointment at the hospital, for a wisdom tooth extraction. He's been in pain with it, on and off for a long time, but it really flared up through the night.

But really efficient service - we arrived at the hospital at 9.40, and got home again at 11.40 - all done and dusted. Amazing.

So just settling down for a second go at a more relaxed start to Sunday!

Thank you, @BIWI and glad your ds medical emergency was so swiftly dealt with. They grow up, but we never stop worrying about them. Dd is getting the right drugs today and will be fine.

BIWI · 06/02/2022 12:23

Ah yes. Drugs. Marvellous things! Grin

Lots going on for you all, hope various adult children are OK @BIWI and @Benvolio. My youngest, DD, 20, is putting us through it again this weekend with some, ahem, questionable lifestyle choices...I'm going over to her flat with a pile of tupperware food for her fridge and various forms of room deoderiser later to try and sort her out. She's over-committed at college and could do with some help thinning out her inbox and getting some fresh air in her lungs. In many many ways she's a hugely accomplished and capable young woman... but dyslexic, long time depressed (and I am beginning to suspect ADD) other times still just needs a little bit of help keeping her head above water. She's getting there.
Food wise I haven't fallen off the wagon but am finding my appetite is suppressed and so end up eating too many seedy crackers because cooking and eating a big meal would be a little nauseating.
I'll try and address this this coming week with better prep, maybe having some cooked meats in the fridge so I can just take some as necessary to add to stir fry packs or broths. Maybe some prepped veg too.
It's interesting how my body has decided on its own eating window. For me, very much from waking until around 2p.m..If I eat well in this period I almost don't struggle at all later..

SpottyBumPony · 06/02/2022 13:27

@Baystard I had a pony one for DS but sold her in the summer. Now it's just me and my trusty cob, I don't think there's a SUE name for roans.

Livelongandprosper · 06/02/2022 16:45

Very disappointing week. We were really snowed under at work and I tried to get through it by eating a whole load of junk. It made me feel pretty ill so I didn't even enjoy falling off the wagon. I was tempted to just give it up but no - I'm going to get back down to business this coming week.
@BIWI and @Benvolio We never stop worrying about our kids do we, however old they are Smile. I hope all is well

prettybird · 06/02/2022 17:03

Here is to a better week to come @Livelongandprosper Thanks

We're here to let off steam to. Smile

I've been doing some "adulting" this weekend: putting together lists of account numbers, pensions, shares, credit cards etc so that if anything were to happen to me, there is something to reference. And no, I didn't have anything like that before and I'm really crap at filing Blush My dad puts me to shame by every time he goes on holiday, giving me an updated list of important contacts and reference numbers, so he's inspired me.

I haven't got everything down yet but I've made a good start Halo Better late than never Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/02/2022 18:06

@Wilkolampshade I was your DD at that age and I have to say Tupperware and room deoderisers would have been lovely. My mum tried guilt and blame. That didn't work as well. Good mumming there! Flowers

Baystard · 06/02/2022 18:35

B-coffee
L-M&S seed crackers with about 50g butter plus baby salad leaves.
D-3 sausages, 3 boiled eggs with butter, shoogled sprouts with butter and a big tbsp double cream for pud.

I like the seed crackers, indeed I've ordered some psyllium husk to have a go at making them myself. They are a good carrier for butter or cheese and VLC. My only concern is the seeds being high in Omega 6.
