Here's a link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness lovingly managed by @ouchmyfeet.

I've added a couple of names that I've spotted this evening, but they're at the bottom of the list not alphabetised - if your name isn't on the list, add yours at the bottom, and we'll re-alphabetise it once we get going.

Sending waves of sympathy to anyone struggling, hoping you feel better soon

{{{hugs}}} or a gentle hand on your shoulder for @ilovecherries

B Longtime IF
L Waitrose delivery brought seafood in shells, I ate the lot prawns, poached salmon and smoked salmon bits in scallop shells. Squeeze of lemon, ground pepper.
D roast kalettes, spinach / butter / nutmeg and two rashers of bacon.

It feels so great to have lost that urge to scoff carbs. I am feeling much more energised and ready to do things. Hurrah.

SpottyBumPony · 21/01/2022 21:18

Itching - there's anecdotal evidence of some horses becoming itchy when fed Alfalfa - a forage high in protein. Maybe it the itching is caused by an increase in protein?

It was a busy day today with lots of lifting and shifting and a 6 mile hack to move my horse to a new yard (pony pic included of course). Dinner was disappointing, DS took forever to go to sleep so started cooking late, the chicken thighs weren't cooked properly when I started eating and the coleslaw wasn't pleasant.

B Greek yog and cream, two sticks of celery on the side
L Ploughman's lunch - coleslaw, mini gherkins, pickled onions, salad, ham, cheese
D failed Chipotle chicken, red pepper, cabbage coleslaw

Welcome to 2022's first Low Carb Bootcamp!
SpottyBumPony · 21/01/2022 21:19

Also - lunch was v late, I expected to be feeling shaky by then but other than a healthy appetite I was fine with the physical morning and late meal.

No snacks today either

DollyDingleberry · 21/01/2022 21:21

@AllTheBlackCoffee

Think I'm developing a bit of an issue with butter. Is it possible to eat too much? I just had sausages, celeriac mash (with butter of course) and broccoli and melted a chunk of butter to drizzle over the top like gravy Blush Was bloody lovely but can't help feel it's a bit duuurrrttyy.

@byebyecarbs how did you make your croque monsieur? Sounds delicious!! I've got some SLCB in the freezer...

It is possible to eat too much butter like anything. Although calories aren’t the most important thing on this WOE, if you consume too many then yes it will impede your losses although the meal you described sounds fine to me! Grin

From experience, it’s really hard to eat too much fat on this WOE. You feel full as can’t finish the meal if you use too much!

I get through 2 packs of butter a week BlushGrin

ShangPie · 21/01/2022 21:25

@foxlover47 no idea if they are LCHF but coconut yogurt (as in made with coconut cream, not coconut flavoured) might be a good substitute?

foxlover47 · 21/01/2022 21:28

@ShangPie ah I will give that a try as a alternative thank you , always worry I don't get enough calcium but not enough to buy a supplement 🙈😂
@SpottyBumPony .. your horse is gorgeous 😍

HaggisTheGreat · 21/01/2022 22:17

Thank you @BIWI for the encouragement yesterday, it really helped. You were absolutely right - if I’d caved into biscuits and wine I would have just ended up feeling worse and annoyed with myself. So glad I stuck to it. Another day done ✅

My newest discovery is M&S Serrano ham crisps. They come in a small bag and are nicely crunchy and salty. But I am another one who probably needs to show some restraint with processed pork products.

BIWI · 21/01/2022 22:20

I'm very pleased @HaggisTheGreat! Flowers

Oneborneverydecade · 21/01/2022 22:30

@SpottyBumPony I love your pony's chin whiskers!

@DollyDingleberry I think you're right, in fact DH suggested the slaw which was 11.5g or thereabouts. I decided that was too high, kept looking, fancied the peas and then deliberately didn't check till after eating them.

I can't remember who mentioned it but I had no idea celery grew from celeriac. Feel a bit silly now

ToastCosILoveIt · 21/01/2022 22:42

Am I too late to join? I have been low carbing since Monday but had forgotten about this thread. I have been here before!

byebyecarbs · 22/01/2022 06:29

Morning all! Today I need to up the greens and up the water. The water is tricky for me as if I drink too much in the afternoon I'm up a lot in the night and then can't get back to sleep so I have to try and down it all by 11am to have a chance of a decent night's kip.

I am also going to buy spinach and tender stem broccoli today and try to incorporate that into some meals.

Breakfast - boiled egg with soldiers (1 slice of slcb)
Lunch - still deciding
Dinner - going to make chicken tikka biryani again (with fried cauli rice) but adding lots of spinach
Snacks - celery
Water - will do my best
Exercise - 5k run

byebyecarbs · 22/01/2022 06:30

Quick Q - has anyone successfully frozen celeriac mash/puree?

ouchmyfeet · 22/01/2022 06:44

@pinknsparkly my favourite takeaway is the local Turkish or Lebanese. Kebab with big Greek salad is 100% fine as long as you don't touch the pitta. My lot always want pizza so we ended up with that last night but I have found one that does a cauliflower crust option so I had that, with a Gordon's 0% and slimline tonic. Happy weekend all, I have an unavoidable afternoon tea to attend today so am going to have a late breakfast, make sure I'm not hungry, and try not to eat too much.'will focus on drinking gallons of tea
Instead!

DearZoom · 22/01/2022 06:47

Good morning.
I’m finding I’m feeling less hungry and more thirsty which I guess is good.
I’m still mindlessly picking (but picking instead of snacking which I guess is an improvement?!). Yesterday I was batch cooking and sampled the mince a few more times than necessary.
I made cheeseburger pie yesterday. My god it’s huge. And so so filling.
Today’s plan is
B: Greek yoghurt and a dash of cream
L: chicken Caesar salad
D: roast lamb (going to my mums for this - I’ve asked for flgv and am bringing cauliflower cheese for everyone)

Random789 · 22/01/2022 07:07

spottybumponywnat a gorgeous horse! Can we all have a ride on him as part of bootcamp? I'm sure the exercise will tone us. Thought for a sec that he was styishly wearing pony denim, but I guess denim wouldn't rreally work out in the field.

I think I slept a lot more deeply and refreshingly last night as a rresult of eating more sensibly. My awful night sweating was reduced too.

I have acquired a pup since my original bootcamp. He's six months now and I am desperate for him to be old enough for unrestricted exercise. Have to keep my walks frustratingly shortish for now.

Runninghorse · 22/01/2022 07:21

Morning. Basic cooking question - I am making a beef stew in the slow cooker. I would normally use flour or cornflour to thicken the gravy. Is their a low carb way of doing this?

Random789 · 22/01/2022 07:36

I'd be interested in any tips for low-carb thickening too. Generally I don't use any thickening agent in a stew, as the reducing process does enough to make the liquid velvety - especially if you add some cream and a shedload of paprika!
When I add paprika, I am often motivated not just beythe lovely sweetness and flavour that it provides, but by its capacity to improve texture. But sometimes it would be nice to have additional body.

ouchmyfeet · 22/01/2022 07:40

No thickening tips from me, I just tend to not use much liquid. I wonder if something like a bit of mashed swede or celeriac mixed in with the sauce at the end might work?

BIWI · 22/01/2022 08:00

Yes, as ouchmyfeet says, either mash up some of the veg you've used, or just reduce the juices in the casserole. And start off with less liquid in it.

@ToastCosILoveIt you're very welcome!

@ouchmyfeet - just be careful with the cauliflower pizza. The ones I've seen in the shops (Dr Oetker made one recently) use cauliflower, but along with other high carb ingredients - so it reduces the carb count slightly, but not as much as if was made solely from cauliflower.

OP posts:
ouchmyfeet · 22/01/2022 08:19

I know BIWI, I was a bit skeptical about the cauliflower the first time I ordered it but it doesn't look like a proper bread-type base at all, it's like when you make a homemade cauli base and it's all crusty and burnt at the edges. I'm persuaded that it's okay, and it's only an occasional treat. The price they charge for it compared to a normal pizza also makes me think there must be significantly more expense or time involved with it but perhaps I have just been conned Blush

dogmandu · 22/01/2022 08:20

Got up to a lovely snowy morning so first thing on the agenda was
to weigh myself. Only lost one and a half kilos, but decided to put thickish sweater on which looked quite tight a few weeks ago but somehow this morning actually looked OK. These little things are so motivating , makes the whole day much more positive.

YesIcan3 · 22/01/2022 08:54

@byebyecarbs I have bought frozen spinach and put a few blocks I'm my omelette in the morning Star

Oneborneverydecade · 22/01/2022 09:00

Great nsv @dogmandu

Having lost 6lb since Monday I feel like a fool for falling off the lchf wagon last year (not completely off, I was hanging on by my fingertips). I announced to my family that Monday was the day so often it's become a bit of a standing joke. I usually breezed through Monday and gave into the sugar cravings on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm determined not to do that this time, especially after one relative announced that LC is great but everyone puts the weight back on Hmm

Random789 · 22/01/2022 09:03

Here's a photo of my new personal trainer (if I can get it to upload). At the moment he is holding me back to half hour walks because he's not allowed to overdo it. But hopefully in a few months he will be requiring multiple hikes per week, which should help me lose a few pounds.

Welcome to 2022's first Low Carb Bootcamp!
Random789 · 22/01/2022 09:04

Wow, 6lbs, Oneborneverydecade. Congratultions! That is very good going.
