Here's a link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness lovingly managed by @ouchmyfeet.

I've added a couple of names that I've spotted this evening, but they're at the bottom of the list not alphabetised - if your name isn't on the list, add yours at the bottom, and we'll re-alphabetise it once we get going.

I’ve hit a bit of dip, mentally, this evening. Everyone/thing just getting on my nerves. Don’t think it’s Boot Camp related, but mood probably not helped by the fact that I really didn’t fancy salad for dinner (I am quite a weather-driven eater!), but it needed eating up (with fat and protein, fear not).

Have had a stern word with myself and am posting here for accountability. I will not open the wine or the biscuits. I will not. repeats ad infinitum

In other news, I am loving all the tea chat on this thread. Have added the Twinnings butter mint and Pukka chai to my online order.

BIWI · 20/01/2022 18:57

Stay firm @HaggisTheGreat!

You'll feel so much better about yourself when you do Flowers

Benvolio · 20/01/2022 18:59

Day 4 done nearly. Still feeling fine. no headache, no fluey, just irritatingly smug. Pride before a fall no doubt... anyway shite at work means I can do with a bit of smugness today. I don't even feel much like a glass of wine, which is my usual downfall. V odd.

B: cream in coffee
L: egg, mayo, red cab, radishes, celery.
D: the last of my endless duck! Made it into a different Thai curry with shop-bought paste, to which I added ginger, chilli, garlic, stock, fish sauce and masses of green cabbage. I only remembered when I was half way through cooking it that this is almost the same as what I did with it last night.

Going to add celeriac etc to tomorrow's online delivery now.

DearZoom · 20/01/2022 19:09

Good evening everyone.
I need BIWI to tell me off as I totally forgot to eat breakfast today. I packed something to take to work, but sorting out staff absences in my department plus my own dd ringing me sick so having to sort out some extra childcare for her (DH is awaiting surgery for broken shoulder and can’t do much to help atm so needed someone else to pop in) meant that I was running round like crazy and didn’t even think about eating my breakfast. By the time I’d even remembered it was nearly 11 and no longer possible (I’m a teacher so couldn’t just stop and eat). I normally eat breakfast whilst sitting at my computer getting everything ready for the day.

L:chicken stew and broccoli
D: lamb chop, asparagus, aubergine

Baystard · 20/01/2022 19:12

@BIWI and @ouchmyfeet thank you for cheeee sauce idea/recipe, oh the glossy, creamy, cheesy wonder Shock

Why on earth are roux based sauces so popular when there's a much nicer (and easier) one??

ToddlingForwards · 20/01/2022 19:15

So sorry to hear your news Fleecy.

My enormous water bottle arrived! It has made drinking easier today, not having to keep track of what I’m drinking, and making it obvious when I’m behind. DH can’t get over it, keeps putting it next to stuff and saying “look, it’s bigger than xyz!”

Loving all the really good food that gets talked about on here! I am also a fan of the cream/cheddar/lemon juice cheese sauce.

Any good pork chop recipes? I have a freezer full of them but it’s not something I normally cook much.

Fleecy · 20/01/2022 19:25

Thanks for all the kind words. Not the best day but we'll muddle through!

Managed to avoid the beige and stick to the WOE. Those mini Boursin are so nice. I smeared them onto cucumber and ate them with olives. Not a winning dinner but better than skipping it.

Pork chops are nice with a bit of butter melting on top. Garlic butter would be even better. We tend to buy loin steaks and do them with a gravy meal, or chop them and stir fry them with five spice/ginger/garlic etc, or have them chopped in a curry. I also like a pork steak with roast veggies and mayo.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 20/01/2022 19:40

I've just had he most amazing lemon butter over my veggies - literally a big wodge of butter melted and mixed with the juice of half a lemon, salt and pepper. If you whisk it with a fork it kind of emulsifies (sp?). Was soo good I almost licked the pattern off the plate. I can't stop thinking about it. Anyway point being, I bet that would be good over pork chops @ToddlingForwards Grin

RagzRebooted · 20/01/2022 19:52

@ilovecherries

MrsTerryPrachet I literally just came back on to ask if anyone knew if this could cause … ahem ….URGENT diarrhoea. I was saved only by the most rapid of sprints. I even searched my original bootcamp thread to see if it had been an issue for me then as well, but that time I seemed to have complained about everything else but not this.
I had exactly this 2 nights ago, but no nausea or stomach pain so definitely not ill. Assumed it was the LC, hasn't happened since. I haven't had it before, as far as I can remember. But I've had no carb flu this time or even headaches, so...
AThroneOfLies · 20/01/2022 19:56

Sorry to hear your sad news @Fleecy Flowers

AThroneOfLies · 20/01/2022 19:57

What veg does everyone use for roasting in their traybakes?

BIWI · 20/01/2022 19:58

Any of:

shallots
peppers
courgettes
cauliflower
broccoli
aubergine
chillies
garlic cloves
leeks
(occasionally the odd carrot)

Try this @ToddlingForwards ( obviously leave out the flour ) it’s one from years ago , its very nice

SpottyBumPony · 20/01/2022 20:33

Today ended up a bit egg heavy as DH has a dodgy stomach from too much ice cream yesterday and only wanted porridge for dinner instead of the pulled chicken we were meant to have. I made myself a scramble/omelette type thing for a quick fix.

B Egg mayo with cherry toms
L Tumeric poached chicken, spinach, mushrooms. Greek Yoghurt and cream
S celery with primula and roast beef slices
D scrambled cheesey eggs with green pepper, tomato, Chorizo, spring onion, kale

Jezzballs2000 · 20/01/2022 20:42

Hello all I managed to forget all about boot camp (smacked hand) so am starting a bit late. I've read lots of the chat here and it's very motivating. I read that Sunday Times article that @BIWI posted in the Prep thread and subsequently bought the book, The Diet Whisperer. Its heavy on the science but very interesting. Long periods of fasting are encouraged (48hrs) which I guess I'll have a go at but very new to me

BIWI · 20/01/2022 20:43

Don't try the fasting until after the first two weeks of Bootamp though @Jezzballs2000.

OP posts:
Jezzballs2000 · 20/01/2022 20:51

@BIWI oh definitely, the book says a full 4 weeks and then super gradually! I had thought i might start really slowly to avoid keto flu but i think I've been generally lowish carb this Jan so might as well just start and do it along everyone here. So much good advice and so many inspiring recipes Smile

Batshittery · 20/01/2022 20:57

@Fleecy so sorry to hear about your DMIL. What a horrible shock Thanks

CeleriacOfTheNight · 20/01/2022 21:24

@Fleecy that's so sad, condolences to you and your family Flowers

So I had one of the Low Carb rolls for lunch and it was great- I don't think you can really tell much of a difference from a standard whole meal roll.

B. Black coffee
L. Low carb roll with bacon, spinach and cherry tomatoes
D. Chicken thighs with buttered roasted sprouts

RagzRebooted · 20/01/2022 21:25

What's with the lemon juice in cheese sauce? I've not heard of that. Does it have a sciencey function or is it for flavour? I would have thought it would make the cream split? Though mine seems to anyway.

Breakfast - Creamy coffee
Lunch - Greek yoghurt, meat stick, vegetable soup
Dinner (6:30pm) - 3 sausages (high meat content Lidl ones), salad, olives, oil, cheese and 2 slices of SLC bread (DH did sausage chips and beans so I had to quickly make a dinner).

Between spilling a load over my desk and having to share some with the cat, I haven't done great on the water yet but still time.

BIWI · 20/01/2022 21:32

The lemon juice adds a nice sharpness to the sauce. It doesn't make the sauce split or curdle. Try it - honestly!

OP posts:
ShangPie · 20/01/2022 21:45

A game of two halves today, when I found myself out during lunchtime and surviving on the cubes of cheese I pre-packed as a snack. But dinner… oh my, glorious!

B - yogurt, creamy coffee
L - cheese cubes
S (lunch really, but was mid afternoon) - turkey meatballs w/ garlic mayo and leftover stir fry
D - M&S lamb shish kebabs with lemon mint yogurt dressing, roasted Mediterranean veggies, grain-free tabbouleh, pickles and garlic mayo

Only after we ate did I notice that the kebabs were supposed to serve 4 Blush

Been a bit slack on the water, but still managed the recommended 2.5L according to the spreadsheet. I finally got in, it’s a thing of beauty @BIWI (was about to send you CakeGin but what is the bootcamp alternative?!)

queenofcauliflower · 20/01/2022 21:45

The cheesy sauce recipe I'm sure I copied from a @BIWI post from a previous bootcamp, also has cream cheese in it!

300ml dbl cream - bring to boil. Add loads of mature grated cheese (mild also works for me), 50g full fat cream cheese, garlic powder & black pepper. Stir and melt cheese. Take off heat and squeeze juice of half a lemon into the sauce. Pour over lightly boiled veg (can use fresh or frozen), more cheese on top. In oven for 10/15 mins.

Benvolio · 20/01/2022 22:11

NSD (non-scales defeat): sat down heavily (well duh) on the sofa and my PJ bottoms split all along the arse seam.

WitchWand · 20/01/2022 22:22

@Fleecy I'm very sorry the loss of your MIL. I hope you can take good care of yourself.

@ilovecherries Sorry that the last few years have been so hard for you. I can see that your contributions are really helpful to so many people and I hope this group will be of great support to you too.

I've been really busy with work today and enjoyed catching up on the thread this evening! Big thanks to @BIWI for all the interesting information - especially the science behind how our body manages alcohol and how it affects our weight. - Really interesting!
