Here's a link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness lovingly managed by @ouchmyfeet.

I've added a couple of names that I've spotted this evening, but they're at the bottom of the list not alphabetised - if your name isn't on the list, add yours at the bottom, and we'll re-alphabetise it once we get going.

Interesting to hear about the different journeys everyone has been on.

I am an absolute sprout hater… I’ve been wondering whether shoogling is a magic I should try, but I think I’ll stick to cabbage! Attached for your viewing pleasure is the first cabbage I have ever grown, I am ridiculously proud of it Grin. It’s on the menu for tomorrow, I may shoogle a chunk of it!

My meals today:

  • eggs mashed with butter
  • salad with chicken, feta and dressing
  • roasted chicken thighs with (very) garlicky spring greens and mushrooms, fried in butter.

Had a few snacks - slices of ham, cheese, cucumber. I’m in a bad habit of eating almost constantly, so as long as my snacks are bootcamp friendly I’m not worrying too much about quantity for the first week, as I know from experience that my hunger levels should drop soon.

Welcome to 2022's first Low Carb Bootcamp!
MrsTophamHat · 17/01/2022 20:35

B - boiled egg
L - leftover gammon, brocolli and brussels
T - mussels with brocolli

Also ff greek yoghurt with cinnamon.

Better than average with water but topping up now as well.

Veg was all cooked in butter but still need more fat tomorrow.

ShangPie · 17/01/2022 20:41

Is it weird to be thirsty even after drinking 3.5L of water?

Not sure what caused it - perhaps I overdid it on the meatballs for dinner and under-served myself on veg… snacked on salami and olives too, so maybe too much salt?

BalloonSlayer · 17/01/2022 20:42

Hello everyone. First day completed!

@ToddlingForwards your cabbage is a beauty but it does have a look of Audrey 2 about it . . . do watch yourself Grin

ThatsAllFolks · 17/01/2022 20:45

I'm thirsty too with a banging headache but carb light. Having more water with pinch of salt.
B steak n stilton leftovers
L ham n cheese
T roast chicken, mayo, greens
Drink: shedload water, herbal tea, black coffee

QueenOfHiraeth · 17/01/2022 20:49

Might be a daft question but does the "below 5g carb per 100g" rule apply to everything? Even if you only use a bit of it?

So, for example, if something has 15 per 100g but you are only going to have 20g of it so would be consuming 3g, is that OK or not?

Livelongandprosper · 17/01/2022 20:53

Really struggling to drink the water. I don't like cucumber so can't put that in it. What other options would be ok to add to the water?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/01/2022 20:57

Hello everyone!

I've been on this since 1st Jan and want to nudge people to remember your NSVs. I'm posting to remember the horrible bloating and heartburn over Christmas. Which has entirely abated.

Honestly, I forget how this WOE makes me feel so much better. After the keto flu has subsided!

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/01/2022 20:57

@Livelongandprosper

Herbal tea bags. In cold water.
NigellaAwesome · 17/01/2022 21:00

Hi everyone, it's great to be here, and enjoying all the chat on the thread.

@ToddlingForwards well done on your cabbage!

I had put on 3 stone since November 2020. I had a couple of quite traumatic experiences then, and I gained mainly through drinking far too much alcohol and then mainlining oatcakes & cheese. There was bread too, as I was fed up not being able to have bread when everyone else seems to be able to manage it.

I started 2 weeks ago, and am pleased that I have lost 10lbs already. I'm doing it dairy free, as I have long suspected I have a dairy intolerance, and we have a very strong family history of it. I'm also planning to stay off alcohol for the foreseeable future, as I recognise that I am simply incapable of moderating.

We are going skiing in less than 4 weeks (hopefully!) and so I will need to try on my salopettes to see if I fit. I may take photos if feeling brave.

Today:
B: Coffee & almond milk, fried egg & mushrooms with homemade mayo.

L: None (breakfast was fairly late)

D: Shredded slow roasted Moroccan pork with spiced cauliflower rice.

Lots of fruit tea

I've been on the look out for teabags or similar to put in water to make iced tea. I like the idea of having a jug of iced tea in the fridge.

I accidentally bought bags with actual tea in them and gave up.

Has anyone found any iced tea bags or similar?

SpottyBumPony · 17/01/2022 21:22

B Kale, Chorizo and Egg
L 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 2 egg, mushroom, tomato
D lamb meatloaf, broccoli and spring greens
S pork scratchings

I want to snack now almost had some yoghurt but had a word with myself to say it's after 9pm so there's no need to eat now. I'm not 'that' hungry.

I struggled not to munch while cooking dinner though, obviously I'm not used to being hungry and staying hungry before a meal - I'll snack while cooking but then still eat the whole meal too

BIWI · 17/01/2022 21:24

@dogmandu Marmite is perfectly fine. I can't imagine you'll be eating 100g of the stuff!

@Davina69 why not try drinking hot water? It's lovely with a slice of lemon.

@ShangPie and @ThatsAllFolks being thirsty despite drinking all the water is a sign that you need more sodium. And if you're feeling headachey, you need to also increase your magnesium and potassium intake.

Sodium is the key - so add salt to your food and cook with it. Good food sources for the other electrolytes are salmon, avocado, full fat natural yoghurt and spinach. You can also use a supplement such as Zero by High5.

@QueenOfHiraeth no it doesn't apply to everything - e.g. English mustard is 13g carbs per 100g. But clearly you'd only be eating a very small amount, so the carbs would be minimal.

@Livelongandprosper try slices of lemon or lime in the water. And as I mentioned earlier, try drinking it hot (again with a slice of lemon).

I love seeing what everyone's been eating. Lots of ideas to steal Smile

Wilkolampshade · 17/01/2022 21:31

@ToddlingForwards what a beauty! Bloody well done. X

LostaraYil · 17/01/2022 21:49

I'm not on the spreadsheet yet but I think I'll be able to add myself. 63.6kg this morning, which isn't terrible but could be better. Aiming for 58kg. I know low carb works for me, but this time round I need to include some stress management techniques because I tend to fall off the wagon towards the end of each half-term. I'm getting married in April so I'm hoping I'll stay motivated.
Good luck to everyone, we can do this.

Random789 · 17/01/2022 21:54

Wonderful cabbage, ToddlingForwards. Really handsome!

NigellaAwesome · 17/01/2022 22:01

I forgot to say, for those looking for ideas of what to drink. Twinings have reintroduced buttermint tea. They also do bags called Cold Infuse for water bottles. I like the rose lemonade flavour, and there is no sugar or sweeteners in them.

On a different note, Sainsburys were selling off jars of iberico pork fat for 10p, and Xmas branded coconut oil for 48p.

QueenOfHiraeth · 17/01/2022 22:13

Thanks @BIWI, that's a relief for things I use small amounts of in cooking
Went to our local supermarket tonight to find it very low on veg and what was there was the dregs, quite an achievement to sell out of veg round here so they must have missed some deliveries but it has thrown my food plans into disarray. Luckily I found they had some frozen veg packs, one ratatouille and one fajita style which can be stir-fried so I've cooked the fajita one with mince (4.6g carbs per serving) and will serve it with konjac rice and the grotty avocado they had left for tea tomorrow
May need to nip to Asda for some extras now which is annoying

APerfectlyGoodName · 17/01/2022 22:37

B. Creamy coffee
L. Broccoli& blue cheese omelette.
D. Burger pie recipe - mince mushrooms. Extra tomato, lettuce and buttered sprouts.
S. Greek Yogurt.
Lots of water.
I'm planning one day at a time, and today was ok.
14lbs to lose!

Willlow · 17/01/2022 22:59

Pleaseandthankyou - I’m inspired by your soup. I must up my spice additions.

B Burrata, rocket, tomato salad
L Chicken veg soup
D Salmon roast cauliflower and my first ever shoogled sprouts. ( very tasty they were too!)

Oneborneverydecade · 17/01/2022 23:16

I've caught up with the thread at last - woohoo! Now I just need to stay on top of it

B: semi fail due to lack of planning
L: sl cold sausage plait with pastry removed
D: shredded chicken, buttery braised sprouts and celeriac chips

Optimistic for the next 8 weeks

BSky · 17/01/2022 23:21

Checking in….
B: x2 eggs & bacon (more like lunch)
S: cheese & ham, couple small slices leftover roast beef.
D: cauli cheese & x2 roast chicken thighs.
Drinks: x2 teas, coffee with cream, herbal tea. No where near enough water.

I have lost almost two stone on lchf before. It creeps back when I relax the rules for too long. One too many slips with sugar & it can be a slippery slope. So back to it…

Good luck folks to day 2

CrispyChickenThighs · 17/01/2022 23:46

Wow, I reached the end of the thread on day one! Normally I'm several days behind and too worried I've missed something big to post 😂

Thank you so much to everyone who runs the bootcamps, or posts on the threads. It's so encouraging to see what everyone is up to.

Thanks as well for the heads up about the buttermint being back in stock. @NigellaAwesome. It's my favourite and they keep 'discontinuing' it!

I0NA · 18/01/2022 00:49

@DollyDingleberry - many congratulations on your baby ( I guess soon to be toddler ) 😀
