2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

Hi ayooplass welcome! I've found low carb is the best way for me to loose weight - have lost almost a stone and a half this year doing it. Stick to BIWIs rules and I'm sure you will too. I found the first week of my first bootcamp pretty tough. But stick with it, this WORKS.

KeyLimePies · 18/10/2021 14:18

Thank you @TrueGrit54, I think it's the angle of the photo - I'm quite short legged, my inside leg is 27" - I'm 5'.3".

Rshard · 18/10/2021 14:20

I love the plan to get a leather jacket when you reach your goal colouring!

Lovely photo keylimepie, I used to love Chelsea girl

prettybird · 18/10/2021 14:30

I was going to make cheeseburger pie for tonight's dinner but dh is going to finish off the portion of low carb turkey parmigiana I made last night (using a batch of roasted tomato sauce from the freezer that I'd made last year using home grown tomatoes) that he didn't finish (he'd eaten too much at a BBQ we'd been at in the afternoon Grin).

So, I've got a pork medallion out the freezer, which I will fry with some cream and serve with buttered brussels and/or cauliflower.

I'll make the cheeseburger pie tomorrow night instead. Smile

Nutsaremynemesis · 18/10/2021 14:37

Yay thanks for the new bootcamp and all the work behind the scenes :-)

I am now back on strict bootcamp after a few months of what has probably been excessive carb creep... nuts really are my nemesis! I started HRT last week so thanks @BIWI for the link to the article on hormones.

@ShagMeRiggins your diet of seafood, lettuce, tasty meat and cheese sounds divine ... I am away with work this week but the place I am staying is coastal and has fab seafood so I am looking forward to dinner tonight!

nowlook · 18/10/2021 14:40

I'm having chicken Alfredo prettybird. It always lasts me a couple of main meals, so I've pencilled in the cheeseburger pie for Wednesday unless I can get some more celeriac in the meantime, in which case I'm having a lamb and leek hotpot

I particularly love this woe in the winter. Got my radishes read for roasting!

How's the bathroom, btw? All done?

I once heard an absolutely terrible joke from my father, about being on The Seafood Diet. Punchline: when I see food, I eat it.

You’re welcome.

Ps—enjoy your meal, nitsaremynemesis

  • nuts, though nits are right up there really
prettybird · 18/10/2021 14:53

The (double) batch of cheeseburger pie I'll be making will do us tomorrow night and then me on Wednesday night, when dh always complains that I get in too late after rugby training for him to eat.

Yes, I'm still rugby training and I've now played two games (off the bench, total of 20 minutes) Shock Not bad for a 60 year old Grin (and we won both games: 0-64 and 61-0). We think we're the only club in Scotland with two teams playing in recognised leagues (the 1st team got promoted to the Premiership "last" season).

Thanks coloringindoors .Im off to work through the spreadsheets!

prettybird · 18/10/2021 15:27

@nowlook - bathroom is wonderful and we're loving availing ourselves of both the walk-in shower and the bath (at different times Wink).

We've kept it nice and "clear" and haven't put back most of the junk "stuff" that was in the bathroom before. I was able to take this picture just now without having to tidy up especially for it Halo

And very importantly, the scales now fit unobtrusively under the sink unit Grin

Cracked window pane still needs to be replaced Hmm

@DessieSaysDiy

Hi all Can I join? I will weigh tomorrow but have low carved today so far. Can I ask if we can have any sugar free zero carb diluting juice like robinsons?? Was thinking at least it’s healthier than Diet Coke or irn bru 🤪 Thanks for the thread xx
Welcome @DessieSaysDiy!

Unfortunately, as others have said, sugar-free stuff is a no-no on Bootcamp, because it contains artificial sweeteners. It's just as unhealthy as Diet Coke and Irn Bru, sad to say!

If you want flavoured water, try adding some slices of lemon or lime, or cucumber (or any other fruit actually - as long as you don't eat it!). Added to sparkling water it can make a very refreshing and tasty drink.

Oh, that's a lovely job @prettybird. Love the green tiles. I'm not sure either of my DS would resist the temptation to sit on the loo while I was in the bath though Grin

prettybird · 18/10/2021 15:39

@BIWI - it helps that Diet Irn Bru is not nice Wink Most diet fizzy drinks are pretty close to their full sugar version in taste - but Irn Bru is not one of them Grin

Transferring to water has saved me a lot of money as I'm happy asking in a pub for a large glass of tap water Halo

HappyLion2021 · 18/10/2021 15:40

Thank you for another boot camp. I have lurked over the last few as this WOE definitely suits my metabolism. I’m really here for accountability as even though I know how much better I feel eating LC it is still very easy to wander from the path. And I am shockingly bad at drinking enough water, so I’m here for the reminders about that too!

Breakfast was a poached egg on buttered wilted spinach, lunch was salad with cold meat and a slice of Leerdamer and dinner tonight is veg traybake with chicken and chorizo. I’ve also managed 1.5 litres of water so far which I’m pleased with.

Good luck everyone.

batmanladybird · 18/10/2021 15:41

Oh hello.
I will have to start a day late, as over carbs today but need this

BIWI · 18/10/2021 15:42

Your menu sounds lovely @HappyLion2021 (and thank you for delurking!). Just a reminder/to check that you're using plenty of fat in it though? So a dressing and/or mayonnaise on the salad, and plenty of oil with the traybake?

Oh definitely yes to both dressing on the salad and oil in the traybake. Today’s dressing was my mixture of oil, vinegar, some herbs and some mustard (it tastes better than it sounds!) which ups the fat content pretty well.

With regards to alcohol, if your drinking wine or something most evenings think about why. I stopped drinking a few years ago as it doesn't really agree with me. I found I was having a glass of wine for ritual, the kids were in bed and I wanted something that was just for me. I bought a mega fancy tea pot that only came out after dark and switched to chamomile tea. I now prefer it and never ever actually fancy alcohol but I get withdrawals if I don't get my camomile tea.
I just had an amazing dinner of fried steak with green veg and stirred some cream cheese in at the end, was lovely.

ouchmyfeet · 18/10/2021 16:39

I agree dita, it's worth trying to develop a new ritual or treat. I never used to be able to drink green tea but a cup of decaf green tea in the evening feels like a bit of a treat now.

I bought the Renpho measuring tape last week to encourage me to take measurements. It's very easy to use, am hoping the graphs will motivate me the same way the weight ones too. I am another daily weigher but won't be measuring daily, maybe once a week

prettybird · 18/10/2021 16:42

Interestingly enough, even though dh and I have a wee hobby business selling wine (especially South African wine), we don't feel the need to drink. We'll drink 3-4 nights a week and I find it easy, during strict Boot Camp, to cut it out totally.

When I do drink it, I'd rather reduce the quantity and up the quality Halo

VividImaginationAgain · 18/10/2021 16:51

Thanks @BIWI

@TrueGrit54 I find drinking iced water from my wine glass in the evenings almost fools me. In fact I had two glasses of wine on Friday for the first time in ages and I barely slept all night and felt terrible in the morning.

I started low carbing (again) with the mini bootcamp in August and have lost 19lbs. I had planned to start back on the strict bootcamp today but I don’t want to go back to eating breakfast. I will otherwise follow it. Hopefully that’s ok. I’m just eating two meal with no snacks and I’m not hungry at all.

For a bit of inspiration I screenshot pictures of any clothes I would love to buy but would look terrible in at the moment (if they even came in my size). I keep them in a folder in my photos and browse through when I’m finding the going tough.

QueenDanu · 18/10/2021 17:29

Hello everybody, reading and catching up. It"s like in search of lost time already!

@jumperandjacket your post jumped out at me as for so long ive wanted to give up diet coke. Nothing hits the spot like a diet coke
Dammit id like one now, but that vampire youtuber eric berg says that aspartame does cause an insulin response 😢 so im going to try v v hard to not have diet coke

BIWI · 18/10/2021 17:44

@VividImaginationAgain yes, if you're accustomed to fasting and have been low carbing for a while, it's fine to drop breakfast (or any other meal)

Hi everyone, looking forward to hearing all your posts over the next few weeks.
I’m on month four of LC, now in maintenance and really happy. I measured initially and then after 2 weeks of full BC and I lost six inches all over! I then since measure monthly as stuff fluctuates. I’ve since lost another two in maintenance and I’m at target weight. It helps keep me on track.
It was my birthday over the weekend I had 5 chips with my steak and some fizz. So I’ll be zipping back into full bc just to get back quickly.

Today was
2 scrambled eggs
Tuna Mayo salad with avo and oil dressing g
Got a big veg filled bigness cooking right now.

Happy LCing everyone.
