2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

Hi all
Can I join?
I will weigh tomorrow but have low carved today so far.
Can I ask if we can have any sugar free zero carb diluting juice like robinsons??
Was thinking at least it’s healthier than Diet Coke or irn bru 🤪
Thanks for the thread xx

ShagMeRiggins · 18/10/2021 12:45

not sure about 1" difference in arm circumference, but I'm right handed so maybe right bicep is more muscly

That will be it. Most people aren’t symmetrical anyway, but the favoured arm (or often leg) is usually slightly more developed.

Now I’m going to do my bossy thing that I’m kind of known for by some (apologies) and suggest you get busy at fullest measurement as well as underbust/back measurement.

Also neck. I know, I know, but trust me.

Also belly, so somewhat below the natural waist. Maybe a couple of inches. This can be eye-opening and helpful from the POV of seeing changes to the visceral fat surrounding your internal organs. Find the widest part and measure it.

Well done, by the way! I really believe in eight weeks’ time the new measurements will give you pride and pleasure.

Hello! Signing in.

This is my third bootcamp this year.

I was 12 st 6 in March.

Am now 11 st 1 Grin

Target weight is 10 st 5.

Actually finding I'm now more used to this woe and don't crave sugar anywhere near as much as I did. The loss of nearly 1 and half stone has also been very motivating. I find the first three weeks the best in terms of weight loss and motivation. After that I struggle.

When I get down to 10,5 I'm treating myself to a leather jacket Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 18/10/2021 12:49

No focus on deprivation, but rather what I've got to eat and got to drink, if that makes any sense at all.

Makes perfect sense to me nowlook.

We do it all the time in other areas of life. I must now take the children to school; I must now log in for that Teams meeting; I must now feed the dog; I must now call the gas company.

Not trying to make this way of eating sound like a chore, more trying to think about it as a part of regular life, by choice.

Drinking water and eating green veg; this is what I do.

colouringindoors · 18/10/2021 12:56

Thanks BIWI

Have now read thread... I don't have too much trouble drinking 2l water/day, but 3 is a challenge.

Echo the measuring everywhere thing. Today I put on a shirt that my upper arms wouldn't fit in back in March!

My other main way of seeing how I'm doing is fitting into trousers. My size 14s are now a bit roomy. But my size 12s are still too tight. REALLY hoping I will be back in them at the end of this bootcamp.

Ooh we are exactly the same weight and looking for about the same loss. I literally cannot actually imagine being my goal weight right now! Other successful people on this thread are my inspiration!
Glenthebattleostrich · 18/10/2021 12:59

@putthehamsterbackinitscage that breakfast sounds amazing. Thanks.

@TrueGrit54 I bought some Tetley cold infusions yesterday instead of wine. The cucumber and mint one is gorgeous and I'm loving the strawberry and watermelon too. Ive had 2l of water easily because they are delicious. I've also treated myself to some loose leaf mint tea because it just feels like more of a treat when it's from my fancy teapot (tea snob alert!)

nowlook · 18/10/2021 13:13

@putthehamsterbackinitscage

Pizza?! What a bunch of bastards Grin
Your best bets are the chicken wings/salads of course, but you might just have to deal with a bit of a departure for one evening!

For the others, this is quite useful on your options at chain restaurants/common cuisines:

KeyLimePies · 18/10/2021 13:24

Not bossy at all @ShagMeRiggins - v helpful.

I measured bust across the nips, so think that’s right? Also measured without clothes. Updated measurements are:

Bust - 42”
Back/ub - 34.5”
Waist - 39”
Tummy - 42”
Hips - 41.5”
Thigh (L&R) - 22”
R arm - 11”
L arm - 10”
Neck - 14”

I do think measurements will help, especially if I start doing more exercise along the way.

nowlook · 18/10/2021 13:25

...and in terms of lunch, will you have a Pret? If so, here's a guide:
www.carbophobic.com/low-carb-pret-a-manger-uk/

And, if not, M&S does better than most in this category (egg and spinach pots; serrano ham and cheese roll-ups). In a general supermarket, I'd typically look at the rotisserie chicken or one of those little tuna infusions pots with a salad. True emergencies call for peperami, mini babybel and (in the pub) pork scratchings Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 18/10/2021 13:26

Nah, let the pizza-eating, beer-guzzling bastard colleagues deal with ‘a bit of a departure.’

So many restaurants serve different low carb dishes (or at least with variations, eg no bun, buttered veg instead of chips) and also offer pizzas for the rest of the group. I’m sure they can find at least one.

ListenLinda · 18/10/2021 13:31

Wow just had a marathon catch up with the thread on my lunch. Of salad, cheese an olive oil dressing and 2 boiled eggs. 2 litres of water down already Smile just been and bought my FLGV for tea as all I had in were carrots.

Interesting rereading about carb flu. I never got it the last two times I did BC. I have been a huge carby twat over the last few months, hoping that I don’t suffer too badly!

ListenLinda · 18/10/2021 13:32

@DessieSaysDiy I think as they still contain artificial sweetners that would be a no, but hopefully someone else can confirm!

KeyLimePies · 18/10/2021 13:35

I somehow lost my tape measure in between taking both sets of measurements and on my hunt for it I found a photo of a skinny 17 yr old me holding a bottle of water while on a school trip. I’m taking it as a sign and have stuck it on my fridge! (I’m not aiming to get to that size again but half way between what I am now and what I was then would be good Smile)

Yes ListenLinda, you're right there. It's rule 10 and here's the explainer:
"10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners
Sugar is an obvious ‘no no’, but artificial sweeteners are also an issue. One of the aims of this way of eating is to eat pure and natural foods, so including sweeteners is not recommended. Some people find that artificial sweeteners can impede their weight loss, and there is some suggestion that your body can respond to sweeteners as if they were sugar, by releasing more insulin - and therefore laying down fat. Given that the aim of Bootcamp is to help us lose our sweet tooth and addiction to sweet things, then it is a good idea to avoid sweeteners altogether in this first two weeks"

nowlook · 18/10/2021 13:41

You look like a model KeyLimePies!

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 18/10/2021 13:43

Wow I posted then dropped off Mumsnet to change train .... this thread is moving very fast....

Thanks for the link @nowlook that will definitely be useful as I would otherwise try to guess on best options and probably get it wrong.

The pizza night will be a pain but I'll see what I can do , and I'll try to get them to eat somewhere better as well.

Lunch worked well - there was an M&S at the station when I changed trains so I got a Greek salad with oil dressing and eggs & spinach for lunch - apart from tomatoes in the salad all very bootcamp friendly, so I'm quite happy with that.

The other challenge, like a lot of posters, is alcohol - I know it's a weakness so I'm going to try to give it a miss this week and stay on alternatives as well. I know that one drink leads to another, that leads to many and then snacks.

So I will avoid being in the bar wherever possible and try to just buy my own so I can stick to soda or slim tonic rather than anything else.

When taking measurements, and comparing (hopefully)) losses, do you measure each leg and arm individually? Years ago I used to go to toning tables and they measured progress by measuring one of each and doubling the losses up - at the time I thought nothing of t but I can see there is potential for each measurement to be a little different.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 18/10/2021 13:48

Oops ... cross posted @nowlook and @ShagMeRiggins .... I'll try to influence the options for dinner... and do the best I can.

M&S are great for a low carb lunch - they seem so much better than other supermarkets etc... I'm hoping there will be one where I can buy lunch every day this week.

ShagMeRiggins · 18/10/2021 13:54

Interesting rereading about carb flu. I never got it the last two times I did BC.

I’ve never experienced it either, ListenLinda. Many don’t.

keylime nice inspirational photo, and glad you’re also measuring at the start.

ShagMeRiggins · 18/10/2021 13:58

putthehamster I wouldn’t worry about measuring each arm or leg unless you’re really curious or into fitness of have inexplicably different sizes of limbs .

I think we all know you’ll do your best wow that’s the business trip. Try not to deprive yourself of anything, including the company of your colleagues if that’s pleasurable for you.

All of this is manageable, easily, in a social setting. Especially with experience.

ayooplass · 18/10/2021 13:59

Hello all
I’d like to join if that’s ok
This is a first for me. I’ve been trying to loose 1.5 stone for the past year and keep slipping. Hoping that having a defined woe will keep me on track.

colouringindoors · 18/10/2021 14:04

fluoropostit oh that's fab! I know what you mean. If i get down to my target weight I'll have lost 2 STONE this year which will be FANTASTIC!

TrueGrit54 · 18/10/2021 14:06

Stripped off and measured, measuring tape was very cold!

B: 42
Back/Ub: 36
Waist (narrowest part): 37
Tummy: 42.5
Hips: 42
R Thigh: 21
L Thigh: 21
R arm: 12
L arm: 11.5
Neck: 14

Back in the day I was 31.5 hips and a neat 34b in triumph bras. I am small boned but wow there is a lot of blubber now. 10.5 extra inches on my hips is a lot.

KeyLimePies great photo, what long legs you have.

KeyLimePies · 18/10/2021 14:11

Thank you @nowlook. I think I'm in head to toe Chelsea Girl clobber.
