2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

Thank you about the reminder about the electrolytes BIWI!

Some many motivated people. So much knowledge.

I am not starting the week with motivation. Horrid weekend and I crashed out my electrolytes accidentally. Blush

What are the high potassium foods that we can have on this woe? I have magnesium, calcium and zinc covered with horse pills not literal horse pills just tablets that are on the bulky side

poorbuthappy · 18/10/2021 09:50

@ShagMeRiggins

poorbuthapppy it’s interesting to notice how badly your body reacts to processed carbs when you don’t generally eat them, isn’t it? Hope you’re back on track ASAP.

Must confess, by the way, there was nothing accidental about my last hurrah! It was more of an ‘end of summer’ last hurrah than an ‘oh shite, Bootcamp starts Monday’ last hurrah. Other than copious amounts of white wine and a perfect baguette jambon buerre on the way home, everything else was pure Bootcamp. Just lots more of it than usual.

When I die I want to be reincarnated as an oyster so I can taste myself all day long. Bliss.

Grin I knew as I was posting it that neither of us did it accidentally!!! But felt it was a bit early for @BIWI to get her stick out. Wink

I was quite shocked at how badly I reacted to it to be honest.
Whilst I have had off days / off meals over the past year, yesterday's tea was an epic carb fest. All at once. Ah well.
Here's to this bootcamp Gin

BIWI · 18/10/2021 10:06

@HillsBesideTheSea

Good food sources of potassium that are also low carb:

Cooked spinach
Cooked broccoli
Mushrooms
Cucumbers
Courgettes
Leafy greens

Also, you could buy some Lo-Salt and use that on your food. (Just don't replace all your salt with it, otherwise you won't get enough sodium)

There's a lovely recipe in this month's Olive magazine for celeriac curry which I'm going to try tomorrow. It's only 9.9g carbs per serving so very good for Bootcamp .

Tonight we're having roast pork (with yummy crackling!), and roasted vegetables to go with it - I'm going shopping tomorrow so it will basically be whatever veg I need to use up today. Most certainly cauliflower and courgettes.

Good morning.
I need this right now.
I’ve been LCing since the start of the last BC in April and I’ve committed myself to this for a year - big family wedding next April almost a year to the day since the start.
I’ve been really good and haven’t slipped at all until last week when for some reason I had to have beans on toast. I’ve also been overdoing it on the nuts and berries recently.

So this will be a much needed reboot.

nowlook · 18/10/2021 10:14

Is it this one @BIWI? Looks great.

You've done brilliantly! I did the first six months of 2021 and then fell dramatically off the wagon over summer. So ready to have lovely skin and nails again.
BIWI · 18/10/2021 10:21

@nowlook

Is it this one *@BIWI*? Looks great.
Yes, that's the one! Looks great and I have all the ingredients to hand as well, which is even better Smile

Good morning! Looking forward to getting started... Have a good couple of stone to lose post baby, and I know from previous experience that low carb works for me as long as I stick to it. I've bought myself a large bottle of a nice extra virgin olive oil as an incentive.

I'll step on the scales as soon as I've freed myself from the sleeping baby that's on top of me at the moment. And given the amount of water I've consumed already this morning this might need to be sooner rather than later!

@BIWI It’s been amazing, can’t thank you all enough.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/10/2021 10:32

Thank you very much BIWI Looks like i have lots of options.

Not sure why but the first 20 rows seem to be frozen in the spread sheet of awesome, so any scrolling moves the rows below that.

Thank you very much for all the hard work with the spread sheet of awesome!

BIWI · 18/10/2021 10:34

Thanks for the heads-up about the spreadsheet freezing @HillsBesideTheSea - something that @ouchmyfeet needs to look at I think!

Good morning all.
I have 3 stone to lose so am very excited to get started. I do have a question though - I've started HRT a month ago, is it (or menopause in general) likely to be affected by this woe?

Rayna37 · 18/10/2021 10:39

Great start to the day (and the bootcamp!) with an early swim, got my half mile in just under 30 mins for possibly the first time yes I realise that's very very slow Broke my roughly 16hr fast with two cold boiled eggs and celery salt at my desk. 1500ml water under my belt. I limit caffeinated drinks to 2-3 per day and generally see them as a bonus to the water intake; my target's not so high though and I know I benefit from exceeding it.

Rayna37 · 18/10/2021 10:49

Heavier than I think I've started any bootcamp barring my first, when I was still on mat leave with "fresh" baby weight to lose. 11lbs to goal!

I've got a curry tonight using King Oyster mushrooms but that is otherwise very close to BIWIs celeriac recipe. Will add to the vegetarian recipe thread.

Thanks and good luck all!

venusandmars · 18/10/2021 10:49

Morning all! I had a dreadful day yesterday. Well it was delightful and sociable but dreadful food wise. It started with a bacon sandwich and concluded with afternoon tea! The afternoon tea as a 'treat' from a lovely family member. I ate the savouries, and a scone, and brought all the cakes home in a box. They are still in the fridge to tempt dh when he gets back from his weekend trip. It was lovely to be out and chatting, but I know if it had been my choice I would have opted for a proper meal. And if I was going to eat carbs I'd rather have had a roast potato! I don't even like cake! or scones! And now after all those unaccustomed carbs I feel truly horrible. Lumpy and sluggish and slow.

So bootcamp couldn't have come at a better time. I'm off to make some boiled eggs mashed with butter to perk myself up. And dinner will be something with chicken and veg. Maybe fajitas with sour cream and guacamole... (served on lettuce, not flour tortillas).

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/10/2021 10:59

Morning campers! (Ding, DING ding).

It's been great reading through the thread this morning - I feel very motivated.

I, too, had a last hurrah, and then had horrendous heartburn and sweats, and couldn't sleep. A timely reminder.

Lovely to see the usual suspects, and welcome to the new names. This W(ay) O(f) E(ating) has been a real game-changer to menopausal me.

Thanks to BIWI and ouchmyfeet Thanks

Sorry I dropped off the face of the earth in the summer. My head just flew away, although I did keep low-carbing.

Ready, steady, GO!

TrueGrit54 · 18/10/2021 11:03

Morning everyone, feeling nervous here, been trying to lose 2 stone all year and tired of failing. 54 and all the weight is on my tummy. I love veg and don’t have a sweet tooth but I drink white wine every evening and don’t drink water at all. I am going to try and drink 2 litres today as so many posters are emphasising the importance of water and it’s a bootcamp rule. Good luck everyone.

BIWI · 18/10/2021 11:06

@Aderyn21

@Aderyn21

You're likely to find that low carbing helps with the menopause symptoms. It was certainly an unexpected benefit for me - all those pesky hot flushes pretty much disappeared! I never took HRT because of the risks to me (my mum died from breast cancer so I was advised against it).

There's an article here about it

I don't know if there's any impact on HRT though. Maybe just see what happens and how you feel in a couple of weeks' time?

Thank you Biwi

BIWI · 18/10/2021 11:09

@TrueGrit54 water is KEY on this WOE, so yes definitely you should be drinking it. At your weight, you should be drinking 2.5 litres a day.

And obviously the white wine will have to go ... Grin

OP posts:
prettybird · 18/10/2021 11:10

@TrueGrit54 - if you want to lose 2 stone, I strongly suspect that you need to drink more than 2 litres of water unless you are really short Wink

Have you checked the water requirements in the Rules?

But to reiterate what the others have said, the water really does make a difference. I like to think of it as peeing away the fat Grin

MotherBuckets · 18/10/2021 11:31

Morning all Smile

I was on the bootcamp back in May I think, and had some success while I was sticking to the rules... but the following 5 months have me back where I started and as fat as I have ever been. So fingers crossed the WOE sticks this time!
