2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

I'm in @Glenthebattleostrich !!

Have it installed somewhere (sadly unused and neglected) on my phone Grin

I'll try my best anyway, my body aches all over at the minute and still waiting to see a consultant to see what is wrong with me!!

BestIsWest · 23/10/2021 15:11

I did exactly the same thing with the couch to 5k. Completed the thing, two years ago, loved it and was ecstatic that I’d managed it at the age of 56. But never carried on. I’d like to do it again but have a dodgy hip. I was very slow at it though. Maybe I will dig out my trainers this week.

PastramiNoRye · 23/10/2021 15:21

Joining in 5 days late due to holidays but I'm motivated and have just made a big cauliflower cheese for dinner to have with ribs.

Couch to 5k sounds great. I almost completed it two years ago...I just couldn't seem to find the motivation to do the final run then the first lockdown hit and I never managed to get back to it. Very unsatisfying!

cheeseisthebest · 23/10/2021 15:23

Hello everyone I am so sorry I am so late to this. Will have a proper read of the thread and catch up.

TrueGrit54 · 23/10/2021 15:27

I’ve downloaded the app, the coaches have changed, Michael Jordan has gone (I loved him), I will try Denise Lewis (I need Olympic level coaches). Tempted by Sarah Millican too.

BestIsWest we are both 50s and I am horribly stiff and creaky. If it gets tough I think repeating a week is what we could do, rather than stop.

I think that’s 4 joining you so far Glenthebattleostrich.

nowlook · 23/10/2021 15:30

Alright @cheeseisthebest?
You've been missed!

ShagMeRiggins · 23/10/2021 15:46

I have a very solemn agreement with DH and the DC that, if I'm ever in a coma, they need to play TBBT theme tune and monitor closely for any reaction to "we built the pyramids". If there's nothing, they may let me go

Ha ha ha ha ha! Best bit, to be sure.

prettybird · 23/10/2021 15:53

I'm about to start to start running again (having started against in August but then had to stop while I got an old Achilles' tendon injury sorted good physio HURTS but is worth it Hmm).

I'll not be following the Couch to 5k programme (used to do a lot of running) but will be building up again gradually.

I attended a webinar last year by someone called Coach Parry about "Faster Beyond Fifty". Two key bits of advice, which I took on with great Wink alacrity were a) to only run every second day, because as you're older, you need more time to recover and b) to do only one pace run a week. It's the lengthening distances that matter in the other runs, which should be run really slowly and relaxedly. Smile Plus, for all runs (including pace/race runs), every 2miles/3km walk briskly for 90seconds.

I followed this last year (before my Achilles went last time - but now because of the rugby I have access to a physio) and up until then my times had been stagnating/getting slower but afterwards, my pace run times started improving Smile Plus I was enjoying the runs more.

ShagMeRiggins · 23/10/2021 15:53

Glenthebattleostrich if you can produce a photo of someone looking deliriously happy while running** I will give thought to joining the Couch thingy.

WATER WATER WATER!!!

**this excludes children, race winners, marathon photo ops, and professional athletes, e.g., no Mo Farah.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/10/2021 15:54

@nowlook you'd better be quick it's all going surprisingly fast!! But washing up help desperately needed. Bloody dishwasher.

Just had the Parmesan salmon with spinach and kale - genuinely wasn't hungry until now and been busy / out.

Knee is 'squeaky' today so my plannned run whilst DD was in her yoga session morphed into black coffee and some work in the cafe instead.

Tacos tonight!!! I've tried the lettuce leaf thing before with lamb kebabs and not got on that well but I know I like little gem shredded with fajitas so I'm giving it another go.

I've started a potentially endless task to find a new pair of more 'now' jeans. Bloody H&M still don't let you try clothes on so lugged a tonne home none of which looked right so then ordered a load more to try on. Got a horrible sneaking feeling the whole lot will be going back!! I want to say it in the voiceover to the Apprentice "Fusions search for her jeans continues"

Rshard · 23/10/2021 17:35

Well remembered newlook, you are clever. And lovely. Dd is great thanks, at college and has a part time job as a lifeguard so her confidence has really been boosted. All her own doing too.

Running erm… well I might also join glen’s couch to 5k group if I may? When are you starting?

Great minds prettybird, we are also having Boursin chicken for dinner

BIWI · 23/10/2021 17:39

I've done the C25K 3 times now (by which I mean completed!) and also did the 'run 60 miles in September' challenge although I did a lot of walking as well as running and I have confirmed, most definitely, that I do not like running!

Hey @cheeseisthebest
I did couch to 5 k a few years ago, the ran 2 10ks then never ran again.

Loved it at the time but once I'd done it it was like I proved I could. Tried a few times since but always makes my knees hurt. So in short no, I won't be joining you

Glenthebattleostrich · 23/10/2021 18:34

Fantastic, thats a few of us up for it.

I never got on with the NHS app so have a different one I play music and podcasts to. I got to 10k last time i ran regularly then stopped last December and haven't put my trainers on since January.

@nowlook I always laugh way to much at the episode Glen is mentioned, DH and DD think I'm nuts.

@ShagMeRiggins I will be sure to take a lovely selfie on Monday of me running 🤣

ayooplass · 23/10/2021 18:39

I really fancy a glass of wine. So I’m catching up on the thread instead. Celeriac in my Tesco atm, so will give celeriac chips a go.
Chicken and Greek salad for tea- wraps for the rest of the family.
I haven’t run for a few years due to dodgy health. Now thinking about starting again rather than wine- thanks for the distraction!

H1Drangea · 23/10/2021 18:56

@Glenthebattleostrich , I’m in !
Started running in Dark Lockdown ( hopefully the last one ) and ran an outside 5 k in the summer ( and have a medal on the fridge to prove it )
Have barely done anything since
Start Monday ?

Dellabob123 · 23/10/2021 18:58

Just popped to Waitrose and stocked up on every green veg going, celeriac included!

Made some crackers form the Leto book...used almond flour and caraway seeds so only for bc lite. Having with baked Camembert, crudités and deli meats tonight!.
Also eat marked a few recipes for the week as they look so good!

Well done on the running. I used to run and love it. But I don’t think my pelvic floor is up to it nowShock

QueenDanu · 23/10/2021 19:13

I couldnt get hold of celeriac today. Try again Tuesday. But i fried onions and mushrooms in garlic butter and added chilli and philadelphia. Was like a strogonoff. Mmm

SamuelWhiskey · 23/10/2021 19:21

@BIWI thanks for the hash recipe - will give it a go! Mine would usually have potatoes and baked beans so will be good to try this one...

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 23/10/2021 19:31

For all those thinking about starting or Re-starting running, just remember a few key things...

A good sports bra
Some running shoes not fashion trainers
And most important, slow down, slow down and slow down some more .... if it hurts, slow down again and walk more if needed

I can't remember who said they needed a pic of someone running and looking happy... the happy face comes when you finish the run 😃

And after running, it's time for water...

QueenDanu · 23/10/2021 19:37

Yeh my friend wants me to go for a run with her. I agreed to a 500 metre run! I hope i dont die. I nearly said no on auto pilot, but i found myself saying "ok but i just need to buy runners first"

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 23/10/2021 19:39

I survived my trip away this week mostly on track - sparklingly water and started rather than main dishes worked when out with colleagues... had a starter avocado salad and a chicken bites starter with blue cheese dip as my meal whilst they tucked into pizza, fries and stuff.... it may not been perfect in terms of food but I also managed a good amount of water every day too - at least 2-2.5 litres every day 😃

And M&S foodhalll provided most lunches and snacks including 10% fat yoghurt, eggs n spinach ... it's great to be able to buy lunch out that does fit in with bootcamp - I wish more places sold similar stuff.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 23/10/2021 19:41

@QueenDanu 500 metres is a lot for a new runner... unless you are used to it, start with run 30 seconds then walk to recover (around 1-2 mins) - repeat 10 times

QueenDanu · 23/10/2021 19:49

Ok i really want to start slowly. Not trying to compete in the fastest improver olympics here!

ouchmyfeet · 23/10/2021 19:50

Evening all, I have had a hectic day but have thankfully managed to get to the point where I'm not hungry until lunchtime.

Leftover takeaway (kebab and Greek salad) for lunch and then a burger with Ragz' dirty fries.

Trying a new herbal tea tonight and it's lovely:

I have tried couch to 5k SO MANY TIMES and never finished it. I am most definitely not a runner.
