2021 Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 17/10/2021 21:46

Welcome to the last Bootcamp of 2021!

This Bootcamp will last for 8 weeks, which will take us up to Monday 13 December.

It's slightly different from other Bootcamps - firstly because it only lasts for 8 weeks (rather than 10), but also because there are going to be different stages.

So ...

Weeks 1 and 2 will be, as ever, strict Bootcamp.

Weeks 3-6 will be strict Bootcamp during the week, but relaxing into Bootcamp Light at weekends

In weeks 7-8 you will have a choice - either back to strict Bootcamp or full-on Bootcamp Light for the last fortnight

@H1Drangea yes, my friend is coming over to make me go after work at 6:30.

Glenthebattleostrich · 23/10/2021 20:05

@putthehamsterbackinitscage

For all those thinking about starting or Re-starting running, just remember a few key things...

A good sports bra
Some running shoes not fashion trainers
And most important, slow down, slow down and slow down some more .... if it hurts, slow down again and walk more if needed

I can't remember who said they needed a pic of someone running and looking happy... the happy face comes when you finish the run 😃

And after running, it's time for water...

Brilliant advice. I run to a podcast or a bit of Bob dylan / cat Stevens for the first few weeks. By week 4 I'm usually a bit addicted to the feeling at the end of a session.
FusionChefGeoff · 23/10/2021 20:07

Can I add to @putthehamsterbackinitscage running tips and add 'warm up and stretch and cool down and stretch'. There's some great YouTube vids of even 5-10 minutes will make a huge difference.

@putthehamsterbackinitscage I had success with Tesco express and Pret recently when grabbing stuff. I've started to take a collapsible silicone lunch box, knife, fork and bottle of mayo if I'm travelling! Nuts (BC light obvs), eggs, rollitos, Caesar salad kits, pack of cooked chicken, deli meat platters, olives, nice cheese .... Just a case of getting used to what to look for really.

Tacos tonight were so simple and I loved the little gem this time so very pleased to add that to the family repertoire. Need to work on slowly increasing the spice for kids as I had to knock that right down for them but I'd like more!

Today has been a disaster! We brought the children to a waterpark. We were told the park had 3 restaurants. Arrived planning to have breakfast there - omelette, salad coffee. The restaurants were all pizzarias/gelateria. Disaster. I had a 'Ceaser Salad' on it's last BBE date. So, fridge cold lettuce, carrots sweetcorn, tomato with dry shredded chicken. A white gloop on the side masqueraded as Ceaser Dressing. Hard boiled egg. Deep fried camembert evtra.
Then at 3pm, it got worse, in terms of carbs. We had pizza for lunch. I couldn't face another cold dry old salad. I ate pizza.
Dinner was grilled chicken with mushroom sauce and salad.
Anyway, in terms of being patient and kind to oneself, I'm drawing a line under it. Start again tomorrow.
@Glenthebattleostrich I would be interested in the C25K but after the 30th.

Aderyn21 · 23/10/2021 20:28

Made a lovely vegetable curry today with flgv, cauli rice and lots of coconut cream, creme fraiche and lime pickle. Cauliflower rice is much nicer fried than steamed!
Am quite pleased with myself because I was really busy today and couldn't eat until quite late, but have resisted snacking.
Did have a Gordon's zero alcohol gin with fevertree light tonic and lots of ice and lime. I think it's okay if I have one of these in the evenings since it's helping me to keep away from wine.
DD is making cakes with her friend now, so will have to not eat any!

cheeseisthebest · 23/10/2021 21:01

@nowlook

Alright *@cheeseisthebest*? You've been missed!
Thank you! Mwah!
Aderyn21 · 23/10/2021 21:03

Meat to add that I found this today, if anyone is missing syrupy coffees. It's cinnamon, orange, brandy and vanilla flavour and says it's 100% coffee. As far as I can work out there's no added sweetener and only 4 cals so no sugar

I completely agree. Also roasted. It’s worth mentioning because it reminds many of us that we had to present certain foods in different ways, many times, for our children to get a liking for them.

Experiment!

(And WATER)

ouchmyfeet · 23/10/2021 21:17

Agree on the cauliflower rice, so much nicer fried, and with lots of salt and pepper

Welcome back @cheeseisthebest!

KarenW · 23/10/2021 22:16

Just looked up fever tree light tonic, 3.8g carbs per 100ml, I'll stick to Schweppes despite the taste!!

QueenDanu · 23/10/2021 22:24

Good idea to fry cauli rice. I was underwhelmed by it last time i had it steamed. Could do with being fried.

prettybird · 23/10/2021 22:29

Fry it with plenty of butter and maybe some spices of your choice (eg cumin, coriander). Scrummy Smile

Wildheartsease · 23/10/2021 22:45

:) Steamed cauli-rice is for 'sad-sssslimming' ... not 'grand low carb living'! Fired (with spices/parsley/coriandar or shallots) every time.

Wildheartsease · 23/10/2021 22:53

Thinking of this new burst of enthusiasm for running and @ShagMeRiggins water cry has me dreaming of rowing. (Sliding effortlessly across great waters to lands unknown - not puffing past the post-office.)

In reality the water will be for drinking but there is a rowing machine upstairs.

It is generally used by the slim fit athletic members of the family who endanger my low-carb foods and is only used to olympic-type workouts. I'm a little afraid that it will reject me...

Linnet · 24/10/2021 00:20

I’m going to join from Monday coming, the 25th, as I was on holiday last week. It’s been a stressful year, FIL is ill and we’ve had to travel to London a lot so dh can visit him in hospital where he’s been for nearly 6 months now and it doesn’t look like he’ll be home any time soon.

I managed to lose 14lbs in the first boot camp I did, starting May 2020 and have kept it off, give or take a couple of pounds. ideally I’d like to lose another 14lbs, although 7lbs would be ok too. I haven’t been following good habits as well as I was but I’m going to try for this last push of 2021.

VividImaginationAgain · 24/10/2021 00:32

Thanks for the Sainsbury’s lamb info. It’s our favourite meat but I rarely buy it as it’s so expensive. There is a Sainsbury’s about 25 mins drive but they deliver here so I’ll order now. I still can’t get celeriac anywhere. There is a wholesale place in the industrial estate that sells to the public. I might try there on Monday.

Yogurt for lunch, chicken and Stilton salad for dinner with a lovely dressing made with mustard, olive oil and lemon juice.

Linnet, you’ve done very well , especially considering other factors. Good to have you on board.

WATER!!

Rayna37 · 24/10/2021 05:44

Just catching up after my afternoon at the brewery... less said about that the better. We had a lovely full English beforehand after a good fast though.

Here's an action shot from yesterday's parkrun... I look not so much deliriously happy as about to punch someone! I rarely run other than doing parkrun most weeks now but I do swim. Not keen on going out in the dark, can't go far before I run out of pavement and streetlights here. Might pick it up again in the spring you never know. Certainly not a natural runner. Used to do lots of races and cross country, did a half marathon in 2019 but not much since then. I would say we got into LCHF as a household through DH's endurance sport, it's increasingly popular for cyclists, ultra runners and long distance triathletes.

OK just found this one too from yesterday- look how happy we all look @ShagMeRiggins

And Dellabob poor pelvic floor no barrier. My waters broke (in a gradual drip not gush way) while watching the first race of a local league. I made my return for the final race of that league. I was wetter after the last race than the first. Slightly alarmed by the 4 women I car-shared with assuring me "oh we all wear pads for racing" Blush I was bootcamping at the time imagine you all got the gory details back then!

Morning all , loving the running chat, I’ve got doggy knees so running is out for me, but I’m keen to do more exercise. I try to do a quick cycle on my exercise bike, gardening or dog walk most days, but I do also have a gym membership (need to start to go again) and several personal trading sessions (prepaid !) that I am aiming to use up this year, so I definitely have a lot of scope for improvement!

I did have a huge moment of clarity when we were away last weekend, i was watching people who were older than me. I want to be as fit and healthy as I can be , obviously there is a part of this that I can control and also a part that I can’t . I’m going to try harder.

Also 350 bulbs planted in pots, 150 left to go in the garden……

Today, I’m going to slow roast some pork shoulder, and will serve with a flgv and a creamy cauliflower cheese, I will report back tomorrow.

Anyway 1 more day to Monday’s weigh in, hope that the scales are kind to you all, but if they have not shifted don’t be disheartened as sometimes it takes 2 weeks to see the weight coming off.

Also 💧 💦 😀

BIWI · 24/10/2021 10:07

Doggy knees?! Grin

@Wildheartsease Master that machine! You've just made me think what I want for Christmas. Off to investigate whether there's one that will fit under my bed.

You look great @Rayna37!

Most exercise has been out for me for well over a year. I've got damaged ligaments in my ankle that won't heal. I'm desperate. Even static cycling can set it off. I'd just decided to bite the financial bullet and go to a sports physio when COVID struck. Waiting for it to pass now.

Dellabob123 · 24/10/2021 10:11

Morning everyone.
It’s a glorious day here. Enjoying my creamy coffee whilst catching up.

Lots of smiling faces on the running pics...it’s inspired me. Although half term may put a stop to that this week!

Today will be baked eggs with bacon and avocado
Leftover green soup
Roast lamb dinner

Oh yes, and the crackers I made from the new recipe book were delicious/ did not expect to like carraway seeds in them, but blimey they were good/ light or maintenance only though!

BelladiMamma · 24/10/2021 10:47

Checking in to see if I can join. On my way home from holiday, I'm mainly veggie / vegan so will scour threads for inspo. Have ordered scales to arrive when I get back
