Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 4

Oneborneverydecade · 23/08/2021 08:15

Morning and welcome to week 4!

I very much hope that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now. This week is mostly about keep on keeping on, drinking all the water and remembering that last week's weight loss stall may still be a factor, as your body continues to adjust to this woe.

As ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help. I'm looking for low carb and or ntermittent fasting podcast recommendations if anyone has any please.

I'll link the spreadsheet in my next comment.

That’s amazing well done @Dellabob123Flowers

Mimosa1 · 27/08/2021 22:24

Wow @FusionChefGeoff that is some tent! Abs congratulations @Dellabob123 - my thighs seem to be the last place I lose weight. Speaking of, it's completely falling off DH and so much slower for me by comparison. Grr..

SaSamhradh · 27/08/2021 23:43

Hi, I'm new to this BC. Could I please be added to the spread sheet of fabulousness? @Oneborneverydecade
I've 2 days done, and taking it ODAAT. Happy that so many are 'in the zone'. The support here is wonderful.
B. Coffee
L. Omelette - broccoli and cauliflower from last night's dinner. Blues cheese and eggs. More veg than egg.
D. Chicken thighs with coleslaw.

ditavonteesed · 28/08/2021 06:45

@FusionChefGeoff wow that tent is amazing. Well done. Have a wonderful time.

Dellabob123 · 28/08/2021 08:32

Thanks @Mimosa1 - thighs and calves last place for me too which is why I was so happy. It will come off eventually

Went for a lovely 2 hour walk last night and ended with a pub dinner - had by less cheese burger with bacon, big green salad and a side of garlic-y spinach. Felt great and had a lovely time with my friend who was making kites on this woe...I think she’s also going to try soon..

Dellabob123 · 28/08/2021 08:52

Kites? I meant notes Grin

Good morning everyone, hope you're enjoying the weekend.

I've been musing on the fact that DH put on 6kg in a month, and I put on about 5kg while we were on holiday, and just how quickly it went on.

DH and I are back from a 4 week trip, which was wonderful, and we treated every day like it was Christmas Day to be fair, in that we put whatever we fancied in our mouth (although we didn't binge iyswim - no eating blocks of butter from the fridge at midnight). Neither of us is a big drinker either. I'm still a bit shocked at how quickly we put on weight. For me the biggest challenge is going to be maintenance. I'm frustrated because I've lost weight SOOO many times but I'm either losing or gaining. Still, I'm glad I'm on the way down again now...

Jollyholibobs · 28/08/2021 09:50

@FusionChefGeoff great tent. Enjoy.

Welcome @SaSamhradh it’s lovely here.

@Mimosa1 Me too on the either losing or gaining thing! The reality which I struggle with accepting is that maintenance is not easy and does not equate to going back to what I did to gain weight in the first place. Bad habits creep back.

Hope everyone is looking forward to a lovely bank holiday weekend. A bit of forward planning required for the social occasions, meals out etc. I am really looking forward to visiting DD in her new house. A few chores at home to do first.

Mandate · 28/08/2021 11:03

@Mimosa1My experience after holidays is that some of the weight comes off very quickly after returning to LC eating. I lost 11kgs a number of years ago and maintained around that for 5 years before various problems caused me to fall back to carbs (DH illness and then the pandemic). I am now back on LC and have lost 2.5kgs in 3 weeks.

Maintenance for me is helped by regular weighing, and tweaking my eating so that if I have a planned meal which I know or suspect will be higher carb, then going lower the rest of the day (so eggs and butter for breakfast rather than Greek yogurt). I let myself relax on holidays or special days but tried to eat lower carb wherever possible and only eat some of the higher carb options. So I will have one or two roast potatoes at Christmas, rather than piling them up. Eating like it's Christmas Day every day for 4 weeks is a long time, I could easily put on the same amount as you have in that time, but if you get straight back on LC hopefully a fair bit will shift quickly.

Also, during that maintenance I went a bit lower when I was more careful and higher when not, so varied over a 2 or 3kg range. So some of your gain may just be natural fluctuation.

Mimosa1 · 28/08/2021 13:24

Thanks @mandate that makes a lot of sense - lots for me to think about. I hope your DH is better now.

Dellabob123 · 28/08/2021 20:11

Dear lord, I am struggling going to the loo today...that’s two days of non movement and I am feeling hinged up. I drink bucket loads of water and eat veg so no idea what’s going on...it’s driving me mad.

FusionChefGeoff · 28/08/2021 20:38

Hey @SaSamhradh great to have you along for the ride!

@Mimosa1 I agree that it's crazy to really think about how king it takes to properly lose weight compared to how fast it goes on. Definitely something that's changed drastically since I hit 38 I reckon.

I'm doing well on the trip - all on plan. Bike ride to a local farm ship which boasts 60 types of cheese woo hoo!! So that definitely meant I felt very indulged. However, pretty sure general quantities of food consumed will see no movement on the scales this week but that's ok.

prettybird · 28/08/2021 21:45

@Dellabob123 - extra fat can have a moving effect.

Sugar free sweets (Thornton toffee, gummy bears...) can also get things moving Wink You have been warned Grin

Dellabob123 · 28/08/2021 21:58

@prettybird is there a specific brand of gummy bears..?Grin

prettybird · 28/08/2021 22:01

It was @BIWI who mentioned that particular "solution" - and the Thornton's Diabetic toffee. Shock

Personally, I've never had a problem so never needed to try them Grin

SaSamhradh · 29/08/2021 01:14

Out tonight to Milanos Pizza. Not one dough ball or pizza crust passed my lips. I had Chicken Ceaser without croutons, and a L of San Pellegrino.
Tomorrow is another day!

ZiggZagg · 29/08/2021 01:25

Sorry just catching up @StuntNun I would be interested in that therapy, need to do something, cannot stop eating my feelings Sad

Kerplunkk · 29/08/2021 09:05

I thought this was interesting - participants in the trial took an average of 3 years of their bio age, it’s something I screenshotted a while ago but think it was from Lizzieloveshealthy.
Looks pretty much like we eat the foods listed there on an almost daily basis.

I am dreading the weigh in this week however as I’ve had a bad week for picking, not huge amounts but I’ve not stayed on track. A combination of hormones & birthdays

Dellabob123 · 29/08/2021 10:09

Problem resolved GrinGrin

And. As a result of feeling better and a million pounds lighter, I actually went for a run with the dog. Just felt springy and did it before I had breakfast!!
Now settled down to a howl of Greek yog, dash of cream, berries and some flaxseed.

Yeu

Dellabob123 · 29/08/2021 10:16

My phone!!
I meant bowl not howl and Yey not heu!!!

Bryonyshcmyony · 29/08/2021 10:46

I can confirm that having a headache and taking an anadin extra with caffeine in is very successful in erm, getting things moving

venusandmars · 29/08/2021 13:09

So here is the consequence of doing too many things at once...

We're going on holiday tomorrow, via PIL's so taking lunch plus another meal for them to eat later in the week. Dh is getting the campervan ready so the kitchen is full of food staples so we can re-stock tea bags, coffee, biscuits, rice (both for him) plus sardines, tuna etc. Plus my head is a bit absorbed with work and a report that needs finished before I go away. And I'm doing the washing up.

Put the plug in the sink, started to run hot water, got the washing-up liquid out of the cupboard, turned around and squirted it into the food I'm prepping for tommorrow's lunch!! Shock Shock

Fortunately, I realised as I started to squeeze the bottle so it wasn't too much and I grabbed a big spoon and lifted it out (along with a big portion of the food). So food doesn't seem to be bubbling up, so I think I rescued it.

Note to self: Must concentrate more!

Brunch - fried egg, buttery mushrooms, low carb roll
D - creamy chicken with roasted turnips and carrots, plus broccoli, green beans, asparagus in butter and some wilted beetroot leaves.

venusandmars · 29/08/2021 13:10

Won't be posting much over the next couple of weeks, but will be reading when I can and cheering you on from the sidelines. And you might hear me whispering somewhere in the ether "eat more veg..."
