Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 4

Oneborneverydecade · 23/08/2021 08:15

Morning and welcome to week 4!

I very much hope that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now. This week is mostly about keep on keeping on, drinking all the water and remembering that last week's weight loss stall may still be a factor, as your body continues to adjust to this woe.

As ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help. I'm looking for low carb and or ntermittent fasting podcast recommendations if anyone has any please.

I'll link the spreadsheet in my next comment.

*we didn’t live at Kew Gardens like some little flower trolls, we lived nearby.

ZiggZagg · 23/08/2021 21:10

Im owning it! I've put 6lb on this week. No excuses, carbs have been a crutch for me this week but I don't want them to be! Need to KOKO.

No B or L today just coffee and water (I'm trying IF as a means to reduce inflammation in my body)

D was mushroom, cabbage and cheese omelette fried in garlic butter and olive oil, with mayonnaise. It was massive and delicious 🤤 I then had some double cream blended with a few berries and a handful of pistachios.

L tomorrow will be SLCR with egg mayo and salad.
D will be crustless quiche with roasted FLGV

One positive is that I have continued to drink all the water, which is showing in my skin and no midnight run to the loo so body is used to it now Smile

ouchmyfeet · 23/08/2021 21:13

@FusionChefGeoff

I'm doing the infamous Cheeseburger pie tonight - what goes with it for a) carb eating family and b) me?!

I'm thinking wedges and beans for them!?

A form of ratatouille for me??

Sorry I'm probably too late for your tea but it's quite rich. I just have a big crunchy salad with it.

It's lovely with some gherkins or cornichons chopped up and scattered on the meat before you add the topping

PastramiNoRye · 23/08/2021 21:18

OK day today. I do see a difference in my chin(s), which is great.

ouchmyfeet · 23/08/2021 21:18

Some great losses this week, amazing for week 3! I have managed to avoid the magnums this evening so getting back on it properly and hope the pounds will be dropping off soon. Tonnes of water today, I will be weeing all night!

L: chicken tikka with big salad and pizza express dressing
D: chicken and chorizo with cream sauce (literally just chicken, chorizo and double cream), with courgette and cabbage fried in butter. Delicious!

BestIsWest · 23/08/2021 21:22

@MrsKoala yes! My rings have been sliding round too, and my watch - going to have to take a link out if the strap.

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 21:25

B: nothing. Lots of water and coffee with almond milk
L: leftover plate from last night - 2 x chicken thighs, Swiss Chard, broccoli, cream and mushroom sauce, avocado oil drizzled over
D: savoy cabbage stir fried with pancetta garlic thyme and then lots of parmesan grated over and a blob of mayo plus more avocado oil (family has this with

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 21:25

*family has this with pasta

prettybird · 23/08/2021 21:37

Good that you're still drinking the water @ZiggZagg - and I hope the IF works for you to reduce the inflammation.

This was my supper tonight: left over roast shoulder of lamb, homegrown tomatoes, tzatziki made from a home grown cucumber (and also a wee bit of mint from the garden), home grown lettuce and home made low carb flat breads (from Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet book). Lovely Smile Dh's only complaint was that I didn't make enough flatbreads. Memo to self: the recipe might say it makes 6, but I divided the mixture into 4 and I should have made double Grin

BIWI I would like to sponsor you too

Jollyholibobs · 24/08/2021 08:17

@prettybird the orchid in the bathroom is lovely and your dinner last night looks amazing.

@BIWI well done for your running challenge. Do you have a link for sponsorship?

I’ve had a bad day yesterday. Completely exhausted having woken up very early. Possibly just hadn’t eaten enough and was hungry. Then was dog tired all day. Carb cravings were overwhelming and came from nowhere. I am 3lbs heavier this morning than yesterday as a result of overeating inculcate. Don’t understand what happened but just going to get back on the wagon today after a really good nights sleep. My history of disordered eating lurks just below the surface and it doesn’t take much to tip me into binge mode. I need to be careful with underrating as it’s the trigger. We were out for the day on Sunday and I just didn’t eat anything as there were only cake and crisps on offer without a walk which was beyond MIL’s capability. I thought I had done so well over the weekend too but it was like a pressure building.

Anyway today is a new day. I suspect it may be tough too but I will try keep on track reminding myself how bad I felt last night.

Dellabob123 · 24/08/2021 10:14

Koko @Jollyholibobs

My tummy is still a bit off today and just wasn’t sure what to have for breakfast.
Decided to make the 1 mmm bread and toast with butter and marmite. Yum!

pinknsparkly · 24/08/2021 10:53

@BIWI - thanks, i'll check out those! I'm definitely in need of some recipe inspiration!

@prettybird - do you recommend the Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet book? I've decided if I'm going to commit to this WOE long term, I want to treat myself to some recipe books (criteria - simple, easy recipes that I actually have time to make!)

BIWI · 24/08/2021 10:58

I have that Tom Kerridge book, but I'm a bit Hmm about some of the ingredients he recommends - Bisto Gravy Granules is one of them - as well as a lot of artificial sweeteners.

I also made his bread from there and was very disappointed in it.

@prettybird might have had a better experience than me though!

prettybird · 24/08/2021 11:05

Nope - not better Sad. The flat breads are one of the few simple recipes and are now in the recipe thread here anyway Wink

Most of the recipes are far too complicated but they can be useful for inspiration - and then simplification Grin

Mimosa1 · 24/08/2021 11:14

@pretty bird , how fab that so much of that spread came from your garden! It looks delicious.

@Jollyholibobs getting back in the wagon is really hard, well done. It's taken me months to get back on...

@ZiggZagg I hesitate to call this a recipe, but I'm eating a lot of turmeric because it's supposed to bring down inflammation. If you're interested:

I hesitate to call this a recipe, but I put loads of it on chicken thighs in a roasting dish with the juice of a lemon and olive oil. The turmeric turns the sauce a lovely golden lemony colour
and all you can really taste is lemon, olive oil and garlic even though I add tonnes - still
Mediterranean rather than Indian iyswim. The secret is to roast the chicken thighs skin side up on your oven's highest setting so the skin crisps up for the first 15mn then turn it down to 150 degrees.

Koko all

FusionChefGeoff · 24/08/2021 12:28

@Jollyholibobs we sound very similar - wish I knew how to fix it / give advice but Thanks instead. I guess the main thing is that we keep coming back and don't let a binge become the beginning of the end!!

Jollyholibobs · 24/08/2021 12:53

@FusionChefGeoff Yes! So much of what you post I say-just like me. As you say if I knew how to fix it…..but LCHF definitely helps. It’s my main aim rather than weight loss. I try to think of it as having the switch on fat adapted and avoiding switching back as it helps so much with cravings. All the more frustrating when it just all goes out of control. Feeling better today though. Smile

ditavonteesed · 24/08/2021 13:25

Half a pound down for me this week, happy with that, anything downward is good enough.n
I have refound my mojo, just packed my lunches up for 5e rest of the wk.
@BIWI do a link for your sponsorship I'm sure W would all love to sponsor you.
Sorry it's only a fleeting visit as I have to turn from night owl to early morning person by tomorrow.

HarrietDVane · 24/08/2021 13:59

I've stayed the same weight wise as predicted, but today slipped effortlessly into a pair of size 18 jeans which has given me a big boost! Feeling lots better now I've finished my antibiotics too.

B - coffee
L - cheddar with a tomato salad (olive oil dressing)
D - bean-free chilli with avocado and green salad; berries and cream

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/08/2021 14:04

All my jeans are getting too big! When I get to 12 stone, hopefully by half term, I'm going to buy two new pairs. Haven't bought a new pair of jeans for years.

legallyblond · 24/08/2021 14:10

Hello! Sorry not to post - very busy weekend changing all my kids’ bedrooms around…

Yesterday was

B - mushrooms and a couple of bacon rashers (fried)
L - tuna Mayo and hard boiled egg salad
D - baked aubergines stuffed with a tomato, nutmeg and mince affair plus salad.

I’ve been reflecting on all the various posts (advice to me and everyone else’s!) and I think that this very long (12 month!) “stall” is a combination of not enough water, not enough fat (I think I’m eating high fat but it’s no different than when I started, yet my body has shed 3 stones of what I assume was mostly fat, so makes sense I need to add some fat to burn fat..?) and (Confused) cut out alcohol for a time… I did this for 2 months right at the beginning of 2020 but I know I will find this hard…

Thanks for the creamy cheesy leeks inspired. I had forgotten about them snd their deliciousness!!!

Static scales for me this week, as they have been for a year give or take a lb or two.

Someone mentioned bingeing upthread, or in last week’s thread. Without detailing too much or veering into sensitive territory, I have (recently and in the distant past) found that some of these things help:

  • catching catastrophe thinking and reminding myself that one [cake / piece of toast / packet of crisps / bottle of wine] will still mean that my overall diet for the day or week has been and will be very low carb and therefore that one thing is unlikely to derail things (not this is to prevent a binge after eating the trigger food, NOT to pre-emptively condone the food!)
  • having a pre decided set of distraction activities to do if about to binge
  • having some sort of alternative treat available which is low carb (ish) specifically to feel indulged if the alternative is a binge … mine was 85% chocolate
  • drinking fresh mint tea and promising myself I would revisit the desire after a pot of tea (the desire then was not there)
  • remembering the feeling is a wave which will pass
  • recognising trigger moods / situations (like over restricting during the day and / or feeling over tired and / or feeling out of control / stressed), then remembering that binging is not a morally bad thing to do and is a habitual response to said triggers which can be changed over time

Xx

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/08/2021 14:15
