Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 4

Oneborneverydecade · 23/08/2021 08:15

Morning and welcome to week 4!

I very much hope that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now. This week is mostly about keep on keeping on, drinking all the water and remembering that last week's weight loss stall may still be a factor, as your body continues to adjust to this woe.

As ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help. I'm looking for low carb and or ntermittent fasting podcast recommendations if anyone has any please.

I'll link the spreadsheet in my next comment.

@Bryonyshcmyony that's amazing well done! I got into a pair of cut offs that haven't fit me for about 10 years - but they are hideously out of fashion - pubic bone revealing hipsters anyone?!? . I'm wearing them with long tops!

@legallyblond thank you so much Thanks I have taken a screen shot and will try to read that post daily as a way to retrain my stupid brain. It's all very sensible advice I'm just scared that once the 'urge' hits me, I don't WANT to hold back, so it won't work. However, the tea trick might just work (unless I'm so fucking stubborn / twisted that I then go onto binge even if the craving goes Blush)

All good today - nice long fast as keeping busy

L: spinach, scrambled eggs, avo, smoked salmon
D: leftover veg from last night with chicken from the BBQ all drowned in butter to boost the fat content
Probably some cheese as have posh cheeseboard cheese left Smile

venusandmars · 24/08/2021 14:52

@legallyblond in the past I have used similar strategies for dealing with alcohol cravings, in particular - having a pre decided set of distraction activities to do if about to binge Thank you for that reminder.

I have a notebook with a page headed HALT! which has specific things to do if I feel Hungry (or thirsty), Angry, Lonely, Tired. Once I've followed all of those - which include drinking raw apple cider vinegar in water, eating cheese; furiously ripping up paper or going for a grumpy, stompy walk; emailing a good friend or writing to an aged aunt; listening to a meditation app - I usually find I've forgotten what the craving was all about. And I know I'm in dangerous territory when I deliberately plan to hit the fuck it button and not even attempt to find my notebook.

Food today:
B - coffee with cream, boiled egg with butter
L - left over chicken thighs, left over kohlrabi slaw, avocado, salad
D - vegetable and coconut curry

I am on holiday this week so I'm going to try not to eat loads of crap. Got my eye on a steak for tea so I can scoff that and avoid the chips (DH will eat those). I am down a very small amount but I know I'm on a plateau at the mo.

legallyblond · 24/08/2021 15:15

Thanks @venusandmars I suspect I could do with using the same techniques for booze as well…

Thanks all.

As for being in that extremely dangerous self-harmful “fuck it - I want to do it to myself” mode, I found that passed over time, and I also used very hot baths (long ones with candles / good telly on phone etc) to good effect if in that zone.

legallyblond · 24/08/2021 15:17

As in burning hot almost!

Rayna37 · 24/08/2021 15:31

Just checking in, lots of good stuff here! Really not been following the rules, about 3lbs over the top end of maintenance after a bad cold, the weekend camping then day off work which included a coil fitting emergency cake was administered.

I did make an excellent chicken makhani from scratch yesterday and a new revelation which could become a curry staple- cabbage as a side. Inspired by my recent lunch at Mowgli I found I already had a couple of recipes to use as a basis to recreate the dish and it was a hit! Will write something up and add to the veggie dishes thread.

Lots of meals out planned over the bank holiday but off on holiday soon so will do my best around that. Clearly not in the mindset right now. I can imagine getting some enthusiasm next year for cranking the BMI down with a beach holiday in sight but for now I'll do.

Loving adding more delicious LCHF recipes to the repertoire and that more of you have been trying cheeseburger pie! I was late to the party there but it's a regular now. I do it with a side of roasted green beans usually or sometimes kale.

Mimosa1 · 24/08/2021 16:08

Oh hells bells. I have just found out I need to travel for a few days for work. The hotel I stay at doesn't have a restaurant and in the past I've bought a pack of biscuits and had it for dinner Blush does anyone have good travel tips? I'm going to Paris which shouldn't be too hard but they're not as easy with substitutions as in the UK.

BIWI · 24/08/2021 16:27

Oh @Mimosa1 - how I envy you! (Not the work bit, obvs, but going to Paris!)

There must be a restaurant close to your hotel, surely? You can usually grab a good steak and salad - minus the frites. Is there a supermarket anywhere near your hotel?

FusionChefGeoff · 24/08/2021 19:20

@Rayna37 my bloody kids must be the only people in the world who didn't like cheeseburger pie - it's too cheesy, apparently. That's a complete oxymoron as far as I'm concerned!!!

@legallyblond I have escaped a boredom / empty house driven craving to snack into a very hot bath. Kids should be home when I get out so hopefully that will work as the ultimate distraction!

@Mimosa1 how long are you going for and is it train / plane? Can you take a cool pack up for at least one meal? And agree with BIWI surely un steak avev salade should be pretty easy to come by?

ouchmyfeet · 24/08/2021 20:44

Mine aren't keen on CB pie either, they'd prefer an actual cheeseburger-wouldn't we all?!

I tend to just make it for myself now and eat it over 3-4 days. Having it again tonight with buttery leeks and courgette

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/08/2021 20:57

I had a mini bar of 90% chocolate tonight. Dd bought it for me from the health food shop. 9 carbs but a real treat. First chocolate I've had for months.

Rayna37 · 24/08/2021 21:21

Bryony don't deprive yourself- DELICIOUS Lindt 90% is available in all good supermarkets and is only 14g carbs for the whole 100g so 3.5 per 1/4 of a bar! Actually it splits into 10 squares I think so under 3g for 2 squares!

Mimosa1 · 24/08/2021 21:36

I second the Lindt 90% - so good! It's a bit tricky to find in some super markets so I've just ordered 10 bars off Amazon :)

I'll be away for 4 days, taking the train. It's a good idea about a cooler bag for the eurostar, thanks.

Mimosa1 · 24/08/2021 21:36

And avoiding the frites, BIWI ;-)

Thanks for the tip! I'm a bit crap at only eating 2 squares though
Rayna37 · 24/08/2021 21:46

Ah OK- Aldi do nice 85% dark chocolate in packs of individually wrapped 25g bars which might work for you!

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/08/2021 21:51

This one was called Ombar. It was very nice but 26 carbs per 100g

BestIsWest · 24/08/2021 21:55

I’ve just had some Lindt 90% too. Lovely.

FusionChefGeoff · 24/08/2021 23:14

I have these they're amazing!
venusandmars · 24/08/2021 23:19

my maxim is only ever to eat ONE square (of 90% Lindt). I f I can't do one square I need to not eat it at all.

ditavonteesed · 25/08/2021 05:47

I ge5 the Aldi one for this reason, feels like your actually having a bar of choc. My low carb bread should come while I'm at work today, dh has to find room in the freezer for it. I ran out a week ago and I have missed my eggs on toast.

Bryonyshcmyony · 25/08/2021 07:45

Does the aldi one have sweeteners in?

I have literally never been to aldi lol. There is one near me that opened about a year ago. Anything else decent while I'm in there? (I'm a Lidl girl myself)

Bryonyshcmyony · 25/08/2021 07:47

Thank you @legallyblond, I have ordered the Keto Kitchen today and am looking forward to it.

Anyone have any recommendations for low carb and gluten free puddings for friends coming to dinner who are both?

cheeseisthebest · 25/08/2021 08:12

Legallyblonde that post has really resonated with me too.
I've not been great, so tired, it's like having a newborn but life feels more settled again and I have a day off today so going to do some meal planning with a coffee later.

prettybird · 25/08/2021 08:20

@Bryonyshcmyony : chocolate pots (with orange and cardamom) - intense little chocolate mousses; creme brûlée (need erythritol and inulin); meringue roulade (need erythritol); just simple strawberries/other berries and cream (make the most of it being summer Wink)

All those (and more Grin) recipes on are on "dessert and other sweet things" recipe thread Smile
