Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

I have been trying to read through and just wanted to stop and say that I am so sorry @ZiggZagg for you loss Flowers - so very tough to go through especially not being able to see him - try to be kind to yourself, this will be a really tough time for you. Sending you my very best.

BIWI · 24/04/2021 13:00

@ChoosandChipsandSealingWax

Good morning *@BIWI* and all, can I please join?? I did the Bootcamp a few years ago and it was really great! I have had a difficult lockdown though and the weight has piled on. Also put a stone on before lockdown in stress of my MIL dying and then moving house. So I have a good couple of stone plus to shift!

I have actually already started so if you could please add me to the spreadsheet that would be wonderful (I tried adding myself just now but couldn’t work out how to do it on my phone, sorry)

12/4
Start weight 177 pounds
12 stone 9

I lost two and a half pounds last week which I am really pleased about!

Now need to catch up with the thread to see how everyone has been doing and ‘meet’ everyone. Looking forward to joining in!

Welcome (back!) @ChoosandChipsandSealingWax.

Sorry to hear about your MIL - Flowers for you too.

@VeryLittleOwl

As I'm pretty much back to the weight I was at the end of the last boot camp now, I've done myself a 'start' picture for this one. Adding a side view this time, as now the shorts do up I think I'm going to see more change from the side than the front.
@VeryLittleOwl I have done a starter picture too!

I'm having Chinese tonight with a friend what are good options? Sorry i know its been asked several times before!

Bestbees · 24/04/2021 13:52

@cheeseisthebest is their a menu u can post? I think blackbean sauce stuff is lowest, or duck without wraps.

I have broad beans in my veg box and was going to have them with roast lamb tomorrow. A Google suggests 18g carbs per 100g so assuming too much?

Random789 · 24/04/2021 14:24

I wish, now, that I had followed the suggestion at the beginning of the bootcamp to take measurements, and even a photo. I'm pretty sure I can feel inches melting off (and perhaps melting off more than they do when I have one of my three-day flash-in-the-pan calorie controlled attempts at dieting) but it would be nice to have confirmation of that.

I tried a black coffee just now, as i'm worrying that my milk consumption is creeping up. Perhaps if I keep on trying it, my tastes will shift and it won't feel so bleak. Sad

Coffee is almost fruity-tasting when it is black, as well as being bitter. I suppose that shouldn't be surprising, since it is a berry, but it feels so wrong.

devoncreamtea · 24/04/2021 14:28

Thank you for your kind messages @ElasticFirecracker @Makegoodchoices @Timetobuckup

I am run down! For some reason did not compute. Prioritising rest and sleep this week. Thank you Flowers

Momsincharge · 24/04/2021 14:29

@Random789

They now make almond milk especially for coffee and tea that doesn’t split. It’s about half the carbs as milk. I’ve been mixing half almond milk and half gold top milk into my coffee.

Angliski · 24/04/2021 14:31

@ZiggZagg I am so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful father you had, he obviously loved you very much.

@FusionChefGeoff - how does one cook a dick emoji ? Hmm

Random789 · 24/04/2021 14:52

Thanks, Momsin, I think I will try that. I've only tried the standard almond milk before.

BIWI · 24/04/2021 14:57

@cheeseisthebest

I'm having Chinese tonight with a friend what are good options? Sorry i know its been asked several times before!
@cheeseisthebest is the takeaway online? Can you post their menu, if so?

One of my 'go to' dishes is lettuce wraps - usually filled with a mixture of diced chicken or pork, with mushrooms and onions and other finely diced veg. Like Peking duck it will come with something like hoisin or plum sauce to add - try not to have that, but replace with soy sauce, or no sauce at all.

Stir-fried greens are usually a good side as well - as long as they're not in a sticky, sweet sauce.

@Angliski it was my DP who cooked the dick emoji- aubergine. He cooked it on our cast iron griddle pan then dressed out with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and mustard dressing.

lurknolinger · 24/04/2021 15:07

ZiggZagg so sorry about your Dad, you clearly had a wonderful relationship, with lots of lovely memories to treasure, I hope they bring you comfort
And sorry for those with pets that are unwell/ have died recently. Mine are a huge part of our lifestyle and family that I dread to think of them not being around.

On a lighter note, I didn't know about sheep having a bit of a deathwish until I read it here (very educational thread, think we might be about to find out how you cook a dick emoji too )😂
So saw this and thought of VeryLittleOwl and others with tales of sheep (hope the link works!)

prettybird · 24/04/2021 15:07

@Random789 - it's not too late to take measurements. They can be very reassuring when you're stalling on the scales Smile

Angliski · 24/04/2021 15:27

@debka aha! Sorry wrong attribution! I hope your dick emoji was delicious! It sounds like an excellent marinade to smother it in!

Oneborneverydecade · 24/04/2021 15:30

@debka I would never have said this before this woe but that sounds so good

@ZiggZagg I love what you've written about your Dad, it's made me a bit teary. Your words made me consider how lucky I am with my wonderful step dad

We're out out for dinner to a local pub on Monday to celebrate DD's birthday. Here's the menu, do you think the pork belly will be too carby overall?
www.revivedinns.co.uk/redlyonmenu

Finally here's a pic from July 2020. I've since sold these jeans and bought the next size down Grin

BIWI · 24/04/2021 16:45

Gosh @Oneborneverydecade that's not a very low carb-friendly menu, is it?!

The pork belly sounds lovely, but it depends entirely on how it's cooked - and whether any sugar is used in it.

I'd go for that or the steak - but ask for the steak without chips.

Little before and after photo- first photo was about 2 years ago in a size 22 uniform. Second is size 14 last year. I'm the same size now.

venusandmars · 24/04/2021 17:23

Awesome @debka you look so much taller, and even with a mask on you can see how much more defined your face is.

cheeseisthebest · 24/04/2021 17:24

Wow! That's amazing Debka!

Can't share the menu as it's huge but with drop down options. Just usual Chinese.
How bad is chicken satay?

nowlook · 24/04/2021 17:31

I'd be tempted to sack of the main course @Oneborneverydecade and have the ham hock terrine/salmon and celeriac remoulade as a main.

nowlook · 24/04/2021 17:32

(and I mean both. Am not suggesting you nibble delicately at a starter portion Grin)

nowlook · 24/04/2021 17:41

@cheeseisthebest Chicken Satay is not bad. I listed out some carb values from the official list (they'd sampled chinese takeaways). Let my find post from a couple of weeks back. Hold the line caller.

nowlook · 24/04/2021 17:43

Here you go @cheeseisthebest!

According to the fancy dataset, your best takeaway options to have with your ribs at the Chinese (based on representative samples) are:

Beef stir fry with green peppers and black bean sauce (2.7g/100g)
Szechuan prawns with vegetables (2.5g)
Chicken satay (3g)
Crispy Duck (0.3g)
Egg fu yung (2.5g
