Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 18/04/2021 20:52

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

That's very common VeryLittleOwl. I see a lot of before and after photos on social media with a poster complaining that there's no difference but to everyone else there's a clear difference in shape. I think the issue is that we each zoom in on our own problem areas and don't see the big picture. Do you have a before and after photo you can look at to see whether your waist is slimmer, face is slimmer, etc? They do say you have to lose a stone before it's visible.

nowlook · 22/04/2021 14:03

I had that in reverse VeryLittleOwl. Genuinely thought I looked about the same even though I'd put on two stones. Reader, I did not look the same. Wearing the same clothes doesn't count Grin. In your case, you can definitely see you've lost weight, albeit I've only seen you in the shorts, so can't comment for your knickers Wink

One of the things I'm pondering, though, is natural shape change. By way of example, my boobs aren't disappearing as I lose weight this time and I do seem to be getting a bit broader in the back generally (as per my mum). Perhaps I won't snap back to the same figure I had at 35, even if I'm the same weight.

I did ask last week whether anyone had exercises that worked to reduce norks but you all ignored me you bastards Any tips more than welcome!

colouringindoors · 22/04/2021 14:07

Hi all, nice to read all your chat this morning.

I think (old style scales) I'm down a lb today - which would be the first in a week so really hoping it's right! Measured waist though and have lost 2 inches since last Monday which I've noticed and which is great.
L Mackerel, mayo and salad
D 2 heck sausages and flgv

Utterly knackered today (not dehydrated). Had online meeting re ds 9-10.15, then went back to bed.... just about to have lunch. But sun is out and garden looking lovely 😍

VeryLittleOwl · 22/04/2021 14:24

StuntNun - I can see it when I look at photos of myself, just not when I'm looking in a mirror. I guess it's maybe not having that side-by-side comparison with a reflection.

nowlook - I did that on the way up too Grin Afraid I have no idea in the nork-reducing department, mine are on the small side.

prettybird · 22/04/2021 14:43

I too did that on the way "up" Blush - put on 4 stone while still trying to squeeze into a reducing number of my old clothes ShockBlush

Thankfully, it means I have a lot of lovely clothes that i can now get back into properly Wink

I'm also suffering from the non-reducing boobs. My back measurement keeps going down but my over-bust measurement remains the same, so my cup size keeps increasing Confused

venusandmars · 22/04/2021 14:52

I have the same sense about ageing (and I did about getting fatter, too). One day I walked past a shop and thought "aww, there's an old lady who looks a bit like my Mum" It was of course my own reflection! How did it happen that I got so old?

Jellycatspyjamas · 22/04/2021 14:54

Can’t help with boob reduction I’m afraid but I think exercises for the chest area helps the supporting muscles so maybe improves shape a bit. I have the opposite problem in that as I gained weight my boobs disappeared into my ever expanding torso, one of the joys for me is seeing a bit of definition between boobs and abdomen/tummy. I’ve ordered some new bras that might fit better so here’s hoping.

TheHoover · 22/04/2021 15:02

Same nowlook
I also have a habit of losing, say, half of what I need to and then thinking I look fine and (over) relaxing.

I’ve never heard of losing weight everywhere except the boobs. Quite intrigued to see if that happens here (although they can get back down a couple of sizes as quick as they like so I can fit into my sports bras).

colouringindoors · 22/04/2021 15:26

I have the opposite. Weight loss means that my cleavage will revert to it's Very modest size. That plus more visible wrinkles will influence my chosen weight I want to stay at, which may well be just outside the "heslthy" bmi zone...

Andi2020 · 22/04/2021 15:44

@angliski best wishes to youFlowers

FinallyHere · 22/04/2021 16:12

Just home from navigating lunch out, for the first time in well, let's just say a while for DH's birthday. I felt the support of this thread and bootcamp generally, thank you so much lovely people.

Terrine of chicken (with a touch of tarragon) was delicious to start, mussels as main. Ate loads, drank loads of water. Feel great, all good. Thank you so much. I had already started to think in terms of just accepting a wobble due to birthday celebrations. Sigh of relief.

Bit low on veg., so supper will be a FTHV

Makegoodchoices · 22/04/2021 17:09

I’ve done battle with the celeriac.

I think I won. But it stank up the kitchen and I can’t get the smell off my hands.

I’ve coated the celeriac with paprika, garlic powder, chilli, salt and pepper. I’m going to put bacon with it as it roasts.

Shopping is coming tonight so at least if it’s horrible I’ll have a choice of other stuff to eat!

debka · 22/04/2021 17:26

@VeryLittleOwl
I absolutely get what you are saying. I am 10 stone lighter than my heaviest weight and I can see it when I'm clothed: it's obvious! But when I'm naked I genuinely struggle to see the difference. I think partly it's what a previous poster said: we tend to just look at the flabby "problem" areas (and I'm still overweight, definitely still have them!). But I think it's more than that, I think it's a form of body dysmorphia, almost like very thin anorexic people genuinely seeing themselves as fat. Something that has helped me has been putting a full length mirror in my bedroom and walking around naked a bit more. I can't say I stop and actually examine myself in it, but I am definitely more aware of myself and how I look, and i am starting to see myself as slimmer now.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/04/2021 17:37

@Random789

Thanks, everyone, for being welcoming and reassuring about me posting. Athelstane, yes, I have that worry too, about posting in the middle of someone's big reveal, or worse their requests for support in relation to things that adre difficulet and distressing for them.

I also worry about cross-posting with someone who has kindly offered me tips and support -- so that I fail to thank them. As if my posts had to be some great big Oscars acceptance speech, tearfully acknowledging everyone who has got me where I am today. If you offer any remarks directed to me and I don't respond properly, please take it as read that I appreciate them very much.

@Random789 I worry about this on MN chat threads, especially when I've taken a while to type my answer.

PP: "My entire family were just killed in a freak encounter with a giant squid in the local pool"
Me: "God, it's cold today. My tits are like baked alaskas"

That kind of thing.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/04/2021 17:47

@Angliski I have everything crossed for you. Thanks

@BIWI Pam doesn't like being embraced. She is a big fan of social distancing, and thinks it should be forever enshrined in law.

@nowlook Someone told me you can improve their pertness by strengthening your pecs, but that may well be utter bollocks. No idea how to shrink the bloody things!

Hope everyone's day has gone ok, & Thanks to those with nasty periods.

All ok here. I'm fasting tonight (mainly to give me a night off cooking. I just feed the kids, and DH fends for himself quite late).

Knackered after our first week back at school. I keep falling asleep at random times.

Words · 22/04/2021 18:12

May I just de lurk on the boob front ?

I am finding the same, that although I am shrinking gênerally (hello, collarbone!) thé norks remain pretty much the same, and droopy.

I'm back at the gym and some of the resistance machines supposedly help with the saggage- as does a really good bra - emphasises the waist a bit somehow.

That aside, it's nice to fit back into my clothes again.

Chunkymonkey123 · 22/04/2021 18:25

Today I’ve had:
B: eggs and cheese
L: leftover lamb koftas with roasted veg
D: salmon with green beans and broccoli in a creme fresh sauce.

I’ve weighed and I’ve gone up! Suspect I’ve eased off on the water, finding it harder at work. Hopefully will be off again for Monday.

BIWI · 22/04/2021 18:26

Definitely good arm tone/working on chest exercises helps with pertness!

Gosh, busy week for me means I've been distracted from this thread today. Had to do my final C25K of this week - week 8, the penultimate week - so ran for 28 minutes. Then this afternoon went for my second jab. Yay!

OP posts:
nowlook · 22/04/2021 18:56

Why is it nine weeks, rather than 10 BIWI? I was seriously considering doing it ha! as if, but now you've put me right off Grin

I need to be clear that my bosom is every bit as you could expect from a woman who has borne and fed two children . I might look into one of the fugly minimisers...just want my otherwise well-fitting shirts not to gape

Amazing news about your jab. Spoke to one of my French colleagues today and asked him whether he'd been done. He explained "non", because he's not a teacher, policeman, someone with underlying health conditions or over 55 (he's 53). I had mine on Easter Sunday and I'm 42 Shock Wink

Andi2020 · 22/04/2021 19:05

@biwi lucky you on 2nd Jab really slow in Ireland so a few months off even getting first jab and well done on run

Alot of you have terrible time with periods when I knew I was finished having kids I got in the mirena coil and never have a period they last 5 years and I'm now on my third.
Lots of lovely food ideas.

MrsKoala · 22/04/2021 19:22

@BIWI have you had the AstraZeneca? I’ve had my first (2nd beginning of June) and I felt so ill for 2 days after. Still totally worth it tho of course. But I’m wondering whether to prepare in advance for the 2nd as the first was quite unexpected.

ouchmyfeet · 22/04/2021 19:53

@Pleaseandthankyou

Someone had asked how to eat eggs with butter. I have this most mornings. I boil the kettle. Put hot water in a pot and pop in the eggs. Set timer for 7 minutes. I then put some water in a small cup to heat it up. After drying the cup I put a large knob of butter in it. Peel the hot eggs and then mash in the butter with salt and pepper. If I don’t have time I just scramble them in butter but I still put them in a warm cup so they don’t get cold. Just call me Nigella 😂
This is exactly what I do. Egg in a cup - breakfast of kings!
cheeseisthebest · 22/04/2021 19:54

Oh my goodness, can't keep up!
Hugs for those with period pain and empathy for those with huge boobs mine are massive and starting to sag. Need new bras but want to be properly fitted.
Excellent food day today
Brunch scrambled eggs, bacon and spinach
Dinner 2 small cod fillets, cauliflower mash, green beans and my trademark creamy mustard sauce!
Plus 2 small cheeses
1 tea, 2 creamy coffees and all the water!

cheeseisthebest · 22/04/2021 19:54

And I'm 9st 13!!! Grin

Stepharoo78 · 22/04/2021 20:21

@cheeseisthebest not a lot of time to catch up on the thread but wanted to say well done for crossing 10 stone barrier! Amazing!
