Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

I bought these bad boys @OnceUponAMidnightBeery. Apparently will cope with post-partum/c-section flow. Not my post-partum flow, that's for sure Hmm. Still, I slept for at least five hours with them before waking up in a panic. No panic needed, all was contained. They're like PE pants in terms of gusset thickness. I wouldn't wear them in company, as it were, but I've recently had new linen and didn't want it ruined Grin. There's no going back now. Next step is a glass of steradent by the bed for my teeth.

colouringindoors · 21/04/2021 18:14

Another recommendation for starting ibuprofen 48 hrs before period is due, definitely helps reduce heaviness and pain for me.

💐💐💐 for everyone that needs them.

I am now craving a drink cos I had to ask my fkn ex to help his dd with her revision (2 gcses tomorrow) cos it would never enter his head despite him saying he doesn't think she's revising enough. He looked at me liked I was unreasonable 🙄 He is bad for my health in soooooo many ways...

OnceUponAMidnightBeery hope yr feeling better now and congrats on 4lb! Snap Grin

Treated myself to chicken alfredo ingredients for tonight. Also got some lindt 90% (on offer in waitrose) for emergency use only, 3g carb per 20g (2 squares).

No beauty procedures here at all. I've been v happy with more recent trend for fuller eyebrows! I do pluck mine a bit 😉

colouringindoors · 21/04/2021 18:14

here they are!

Wow colouringindoors! Mine are about a third of those Sad. As pp's have said, if I could guarantee the dita-esque microblading results, I'd do it although possibly not because it might trigger psoriasis in my eyebrows, like everything else triggers bloody psoriasis

Chunkymonkey123 · 21/04/2021 18:21

Thank you @StuntNun I’ve just ordered some mint tea off Amazon. @BIWI that salmon dish sounds lovely, I’ve got salmon for dinner tomorrow night.

B: eggs
L: chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, Mayo
D: lamb loft as with roasted veg and cheddar

Question for those who have eggs and butter for breakfast. Do you just hard boil eggs and then mash cold butter in to them and eat them cold like egg Mayo?

colouringindoors · 21/04/2021 18:22

nowlook oh no!

Honestly its only in last couple of yrs that I've been happy with them (partly cos plucking doesn't need to be done as often now due to age 😅)

Sorry to hear about psoriasis, that really sucks.

nowlook · 21/04/2021 18:33

Ach, I'm being dramatic colouringindoors plus ca change. Many, many people have it a lot worse than me and it's easily controlled these days by a combination of this woe/no nightshades/no fags/less booze. Eyebrows, by contrast, are a source of fury. I am a really hairy little thing. Honestly. But my enthusiastic plucking for decades means that I literally haven't touched them for at least five years (not even a stray hair) and they haven't come on at all. Grrr.

Talking of fags @AthelstaneTheUnready. How're you getting on?!

Makegoodchoices · 21/04/2021 18:53

I’ve finally had the chicken alfredo and it really wasn’t for me - the spinach was the problem I think. Normally picky son loved it though.

Still haven’t managed the celeriac. It looks at me malevolently when I open the fridge.

B: Greek yog
L: omelette
D: Chicken alfredo

Very much enjoying the lack of hunger. I seem to be achieving more and I think that’s the lack of ‘food as a distraction’ where I’d often stand aimlessly in the kitchen, browsing cupboards.

colouringindoors · 21/04/2021 18:55

Noooooo! don't say that, just about to go and cook it 😅

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/04/2021 18:58

be brave, @colouringindoors - another vote for Chicken with Freddy here - ignore the outlier Wink

Makegoodchoices · 21/04/2021 18:58

@colouringindoors I suspect I’m just in a grump as I also have a hellish period Day 2 going on. My son has just had seconds.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/04/2021 18:59

here you go, @Makegoodchoices:

www.theguardian.com/food/2021/apr/21/17-ways-with-celeriac

double dare you to make the icecream (after BC)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/04/2021 19:04

@nowlook, I am nearing the end of day 25 without either a fag, or a drink.

first two weeks easy, as I had the father of all sinus infections making me feel dreadful. this past week though, i have had some strong compulsions to have a cigarette. resisted so far, but a bit grumpy about having to start going through the temptations at this delayed point.

Food today = much more interesting.

B: loadsa coffee
L: fantasia salad (celery, chorizo, brie, plum tomatoes, lettuce, smoked salmon, cucumber)
D: not sure yet, probably some more leftover roast beef with probably leeks and broccoli

Makegoodchoices · 21/04/2021 19:07

@AthelstaneTheUnready Grin It’s either going to be chips or soup. Or it’ll stay sitting in the fridge long enough to become sentient.

Doilooklikeatourist · 21/04/2021 19:07

Just realised I can’t remember the last time I plucked my eyelashes ..my chin though ...

Slightly tingly as I’ve been weeding all afternoon , and managed to nettle sting my fingers through my gardening gloves
I’m so planting tulips in the autumn ! Did anyone else love Montys way of planting tulips in the lawn ( Gardeners World last Friday )

B Greek yog , with cream and vanilla ( I love this and can’t remember who recommended it , but Thankyou. )
L leftover roast chicken with avocado , mayo , olive oil and a squeeze of lemon
D bean less chilli ( turkey thigh steak , with cumin , chilli , smoked paprika and a tsp cocoa ) avo salad on the side and sour cream . So delicious

Tip tomorrow ! A big day out
Starts sorting tat ( there’s a lot )

@Makegoodchoices maybe try chicken Alfredo with mushrooms in place of the spinach next time ?

I’m loving the photos of all the faces ,
We are a good looking lot !

Jellycatspyjamas · 21/04/2021 19:10

That salad sounds amazing @AthelstaneTheUnready, might add tat to my meal plan - do you think it would work with prawns as the fishy element, I’m not keen on salmon.

colouringindoors · 21/04/2021 19:13

Is chicken alfredo freezable???

Random789 · 21/04/2021 19:14

Tonight is the first time that I feel really afraid of relapsing and stuffing myself. I have a nagging fear that I have already eaten too much and that makes me want to start eating more and more.
Any emergency tips?

B: 2 boiled egss mashed with butter

L: Mascarpone with cinnamon. More mascarpone than I feel happy with -- about 100 grams

D: Two small lamb chops fried in olive oil with courgette, mushrooms, mint and some halloumi fragments. Boiled cabbage with a few peas.
Also mug of cocoa with a goodly splosh of cream.

BestIsWest · 21/04/2021 19:23

Some fantastic eyebrows on display. You all look lovely.

Just had some (overcooked) pork loin chops and green veg with butter, lunch was roast chicken and an avocado salad and breakfast was eggs with butter.

I am a bit worried tonight as I’ve had some post meno bleeding yesterday and today. Now I’ll be ringing the doc first thing in the morning anyway to check it out but I think this might have happened last time I did boot camp about four years ago - something to do with oestrogen being released? Am on HRT and no periods for at least five years.

pangolinfan · 21/04/2021 19:26

Thank you everyone who suggested things as evening treats. I found the mint and chocolate Teapigs but think I maybe need a bit longer away from the cooking chocolate before I can fully appreciate their chocolatiness! Food today was:
B: celery with dip made from blue cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese
L: avocado with some smoked salmon and a little more blue cheese
S: marinated roast salmon with loads of veg and coconut yogurt to follow while family devoured a mountain of profiteroles.

nowlook · 21/04/2021 19:28

Well done @AthelstaneTheUnready Star
Are you cold turkey? I've never managed to do it until vaping. Probably have more nicotine now than I ever did before, but one step at a time, eh? It's been almost a year for me now, but not a proper year because no socialising. Oddly, it's not the moments of despair that induce my cravings, but rather that initial five minutes when you get really good news. I still find that smokers are the best, most generous company. Probably all that internalised self-loathing they're supposed to have.

Doilooklikeatourist · 21/04/2021 19:34

@Random789
Water , water , water
Have a glass of water , a herb tea , a sparkling water with ice and lemon
A nice coffee ..
Anything to take your mind off food and keep you busy

nowlook · 21/04/2021 19:38

@colouringindoors

Is chicken alfredo freezable???
The cream would probably split/go a bit runny.

But if you need to freeze Alfredo, you're not doing it right Wink

Timetobuckup · 21/04/2021 19:40

@Random789 I don't really have any great tips other than how dissapointed you will feel tomorrow ? At the moment my mindset is I want to lose the weight and a slip up just means I have to start again for the 100th time if I don't give this a good go.

@AthelstaneTheUnready Well done on the no smoking ! It is the best thing you will ever do for your health. I gave it up a few years ago and I honestly don't miss it at all. I always thought I could give it up but the price for that would be I would miss it forever. Thank God that isn't true because I am not strong enough Grin

How have I never heard about the ibuprofen thing ? Why is anything to do with women's health such a big bloody secret ?
But thank you whoever shared the secret.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/04/2021 19:42

@Jellycatspyjamas, absolutely prawns! great match with chorizo i think

@Random789, yeah, echo the cry for water. you most definitely have not eaten 'too much'. 'small' lamb chops do not sound satisfying Grin. try glugging some water and reassessing in 10 minutes. you may still be hungry, in which case, have something low carb, like a cheese slice topped with good butter, and sprinkled with salt and pepper.
