The final weigh-in thread: March 2021 Low Carb Bootcamp

Here's the spreadsheet

I think this has been a really fantastic Bootcamp. Lots of really great losses.

As well as that, though, like every Bootcamp I'm always amazed and often humbled by how much we get to know people. We may all be here because we're trying to lose weight, but there's so much more going on in people's lives.

Tomorrow is the final weigh-in, but I hope very much that people will continue to check in and update us all on 'their journey' (sorry for the cliché)

I hope the new house is lovely, @Howdidthathappen1!

Remoulade is shredded raw celeriac smothered in (usually) mayonnaise and french mustard. It's as much of a staple in France as coleslaw is here, and deeply yummy.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 01/04/2021 17:41

Actually shredded isn't really right. Julienne chopped - very fine.

pelosi · 01/04/2021 18:05

@FusionChefGeoff sorry no idea on the crisps but would love to get your lamb diner recipe (and a pic would be bonus)!

Ninkanink · 01/04/2021 18:05

@StuntNun

Why am I only now finding out that Snaffling Pig make a pork scratching Easter egg? Confused
I want one!!! (Or five...)
Ninkanink · 01/04/2021 18:13

@ListenLinda Flowers I’m glad you got over your wobble. Every step you make, every day you keep the faith, you’re closer to where you want to be, not further away from it!

@FusionChefGeoff a tapas plate is one of my favourite treats and really hits the spot if I’m ever feeling deprived.

@prettybird the Georg Jensen set is so pretty!

@Howdidthathappen1 Urgh that’s nasty! Every property I’ve ever moved out of has been absolutely spotless from top to bottom.

@ditavonteesed Good luck with the size 12s!

FusionChefGeoff · 01/04/2021 18:40

@pelosi

It was from the recipe threads:

@StuntNun
Your post ‘For those struggling with relatively small losses’ really resonated, thank you. A timely reminder about how to ‘low carb for life’.

@ListenLinda
My ‘d’ h videod me from behind bastard when I had a VR headset on at Xmas. He thought he was being hysterically funny as I was playing a game and looked stupid. Actually, once I got over the shock of what I look like from the back whilst bending down Blush it’s been quite useful and I’ve saved it in my ‘hidden’ folder ... I’m going to compare next Christmas.
Hopefully they’ll be a difference...

pelosi · 01/04/2021 18:49

Fusion thanks so much!

nowlook · 01/04/2021 19:34

Angry Grrr. My turn to lose a long post!

Well done blah earrings blah scratchings blah filthy house bastards blah salt bake celeriac first blah lovely remoulade blah

You get the general gist, I hope Wink

NSV: I have today applied to register my limited company as a law firm Shock I've been operating for five years on my own but each as an in-house lawyer for each client. Finally feel ready to be a grown up. Hare and tortoise an' all that...

ZiggZagg · 01/04/2021 19:47

Congratulations @nowlook ! What a fantastic achievement Grin

I went on my first bike ride today Grin

Only 15 minutes to my parents house (dads not well again and mum wanted me to sit with him whilst she worked) and 15 minutes back but my legs and tummy really felt it!

It's my April Adventure Challenge Grin a bike ride a day! Maybe I'll be riding miles and miles by the end of the month.

As a side note, I made the sweet muffins today and will not be making them again as I just cannot resist them Sad

BustleInYourHedgerow · 01/04/2021 20:05

Those cheese muffins are also my downfall Ziggzag. I've resolved to 9nly make them once a month.

I really fancy a beer tonight so I've got a zero alcohol person chilling in the fridge that I'm very excited about. It was the least carby option I could find.

God I hate remoulade. It reminds me of living in France and how miserable I was there.

L: prawns, mushrooms and spinach fried up with some rocket and garlic mayo on the side

D: nigellas chicken thigh and sausage tray bake. Finally found some non carby sausages in Lidl the cocktail sausages were only 1g carbs per 100g. Had purple broccoli on the side (man I planted far too much of that, everyone is sick of it) and some roasted radishes which were kind of yuck and watery.

One cup of tea with cream
Going to have that beer later
And hopefully only two glasses of wine

5.5k run (shorter ones this week as 8 year old DS cycles with me and that's all he is able for).

nowlook · 01/04/2021 20:05

Thanks Zigg and well done on your bike ride!

I'm such a saddo that I actually called my parents to tell them I'd applied Hmm. That said, DH thought for many years that my middle name was "she's a solicitor, you know" owing to the number of times he's heard DM say it to third parties.

As in, my daughter nowlook (she's a solicitor, you know) has just decorated her landing

venusandmars · 01/04/2021 20:50

Well done @nowlook that's exciting. I closed down my Ltd Co. last year after 18 years. It was always part of my plan for semi-retirement, but it happened a few months earlier because COVID decimated my work / income. Unfortunately that meant I fell between 2 stools and missed out on an industry specific grant, and didn't qualify for the self-employed grant. On the plus side, I avoided paying several £K in tax.

@ZiggZagg Hope you enjoyed your bike ride. Where I live is hilly so I don't really enjoy cycling here - too much hard work - but the few moments of downhill with the wind in your hair are glorious.

Food today:

Brunch - coffee with cream, boiled eggs mashed with butter (known as an 'eggy-peggy' when I was a child)
D - enormous salad. Cheese, ham, mushrooms (in mayonnaise), salad leaves, tomato and avocado (seasoned and with olive oil), cucumber and celery with St Agur blue cheese creme.

Howdidthathappen1 · 01/04/2021 20:51

Oh wow nowlook that's some achievement I'm sure many a solicitor is aiming for what you're doing!
Having scraped off the worse of the grease from my cooker with a wallpaper stripper I've given up for the evening. Also having discovered all my appliances are plugged in to an extension lead behind the kitchen cupboards - which is then plugged to a further extension lead into which the pond pump is plugged - then a further extension lead hidden under a bucket leads to the shed electricsShock - think I'm gonna be on olives, cheese and cold meats for a while ffs.
Eaten my last (quite big) slice of cake this evening whilst ordering a slow cooker and George forman grill to loose excuses for anymore off plan eating.
This house will be beautiful- it might just take much longer than I thought

nowlook · 01/04/2021 21:00

Thanks venus and happen. I think it's part of my mid-life crisis Grin.
Hopefully more productive than a sports car and another handlebar moustache Wink

Eating here is completely on plan, but I'm heeding the call of the wine witch, unfortunately. Need not to revert to that way of living, as I know some of you here understand.

MrsOmelette · 02/04/2021 06:40

So annoyed, my temporary root canal came out whilst eating a soft meal - homemade egg foo yung...I have 11 days to go till the proper one gets put in. So, back to painkiller regime and soups. Over the school holidays, bah. And, none of the full roast I’m cooking for the family on Sunday, double bah.

nowlook · 02/04/2021 07:25

Oh no, MrsO Sad

Soup's such a faff too. Can you chew absolutely nothing? Thanks

FusionChefGeoff · 02/04/2021 07:30

Oooo @MrsOmelette that sounds horrible. I'm such a wuss at the dentist and thank my lucky stars I've not had something that serious yet. Was there yesterday for a check up actually and he told me to book hygenist and I'm already dreading that!

I've promised everyone pancakes today - would these be ok for me (once in a blue moon - won't use the sugar free maple syrup) and I will serve with lots of whipped cream and a few blueberries & strawberries.

I've seen flaxseed pop up a lot in baking chat so now have some of that in case there's a better alternative using that??

The final weigh-in thread: March 2021 Low Carb Bootcamp
MrsOmelette · 02/04/2021 07:53

Thanks @FusionChefGeoff, I’m not looking forward to going back tbh. My grandmother had a cleft palette and jaw problems are definitely running down the maternal side of the family so I’ve been in the dentist chair regularly.
That recipe is one I would use exactly how you plan to, but then would probably have them too regularly and have to cut back lol. Cream is something I need to keep in moderation. Enjoy.

Bestbees · 02/04/2021 08:04

@Oneborneverydecade thank you! I am not sure how often I might do it but will try to do it once a week. I think I need to make sure I have good fatty dinner planned after so I don't crash.

@Howdidthathappen1 sorry to hear the house is a mess. Can't believe people do that! At least it is a (dirty) blank canvas. Do you have lots of plans for it?

@MrsOmelette Flowers sounds awful, I hope you manage OK.

This evening I am going to a friends for drinks. Planning sprtizers and taking low carb snacks (olives, crudités and sour cream dip) I honestly cannot believe I haven't had crisps since new year. I used to love them. This will be the first major test really.

Last night husband had friends over and it really highlighted some of the changes. Fending for my self for dinner before would have meant probably cheese on toast followed by crisps. Or wedges, beans and cheese. Instead I had a whole head of brocoli, steamed. Salmon fried up and then tips in brocoli and smothered in butter. Followed by plain Greek yog, one bar of that moser Roth. 85% and one glass of red wine. OK not perfect but the fact that the brocoli was what I really Wanted to eat was a NSV.

Another NSV, a child at school told me that I reminded them of Jeanette manrara from strictly. I was to do with how smiley I am, but I am taking that, she is gorgeous!

Bestbees · 02/04/2021 08:06

Oops posted too soon!

Food today is salad for lunch, probably with a left over burger from dh bbq, coleslaw.
Dinner will be tikka salmon, brinjal bahaji and cauli rice. Hoping a big meal will help stop me falling into the crisps!

Hope everyone has something nice planned over Easter Grin

Mimosa1 · 02/04/2021 08:07

Baaah, I've introduced more carbs between the BCs to experiment with maintenance in the shortish period before April 12th, and I'm just SO HUNGRY! I haven't introduced much - an apple and some grapes yesterday, a small square of milk cholcolste, and some very thin pancakes with Peking duck, and I now feel starving. Reading back, that's actually quite a lot of carbs but nothing like I used to eat. Very frustrated, maintenance is hard, and I'm hungry and fed up. Sorry for the whine.

nowlook · 02/04/2021 08:09

Sounds like a perfect meal Jeanette Bestbees (and your "fend for myself" meals are very similar to mine!)

Dailyhandtowelwash · 02/04/2021 08:14

Those are great NSVs, @Bestbees!

We are planning a seafood barbecue tonight, if the weather even vaguely permits.

I was out to dinner last night. Had steak and ordered a rocket and Parmesan salad as a side. It came with three onion rings which I ate but were grim. I’m cross with myself for that - at least for carrying on after the first one wasn’t nice. I was basically using them as a mayonnaise vehicle.
