The final weigh-in thread: March 2021 Low Carb Bootcamp

Here's the spreadsheet

I think this has been a really fantastic Bootcamp. Lots of really great losses.

As well as that, though, like every Bootcamp I'm always amazed and often humbled by how much we get to know people. We may all be here because we're trying to lose weight, but there's so much more going on in people's lives.

Tomorrow is the final weigh-in, but I hope very much that people will continue to check in and update us all on 'their journey' (sorry for the cliché)

I've had a woosh! Another lbs off this morning taking me to my pre Christmas / End of last BC weight! I'm so pleased and it's come at just the right time as I've found it so motivating. I feel like I'm more likely to stick things out until April 12th now.

I'm now obsessed with M and S parsley and garlic spatchcock chicken. It's about £7 and does us a couple of meals (not quite the famous Mumsnet roast chicken Grin) and best of all, it cooks in 45 minutes - 60mn depending on whether you bother to preheat the oven. Just rip off plastic film, shove disposable tin foil in the oven, and voila - a "proper" lunch.

Hopeislost · 01/04/2021 10:01

@Mimosa1 I love spatchcocked chicken! I bought myself a proper pair of poultry shears a few years ago and now do it myself after watching a video on YouTube.

I made celeriac remoulade for the first time last night - oh my word! DH loved it too so I think it'll be a firm feature in the repertoire now! Hmm spatchcocked chicken and celeriac remoulade would make a nice meal ...

Ninkanink · 01/04/2021 10:03

Congrats on the bonus whooshes!! Flowers

Celeriac remoulade is fantastic and is one of our staple sides for summer. Goes beautifully with a roast beef platter. Yummy!

StuntNun · 01/04/2021 10:12

Why am I only now finding out that Snaffling Pig make a pork scratching Easter egg? Confused

BustleInYourHedgerow · 01/04/2021 10:27

@dailyhandtowelwash why can't people just keep their mouths shut. I got asked by someone before when if I was pregnant AGAIN when I had a three month old. So rude. And then I got asked when I was struggling to conceive. I'm so sorry people ask you that, they need to be kinder. Thanks for the indiN suggestions.

Well done on your 10k @bestbees

Well done on your losses @mimsoma1 and @Mrsomelette.

I had my indian last night. It wasn't that enjoyable! What I like about indian takeaways is the bread, ha. And the pilau rice. And creamy korma. So I had kebab platter which was grand but boring. The mint cucumber dip i normally enjoy definitely sugar in it. Qnd actually didn't taste nice. Then I had saag gosht with lamb which was tasty but again a bit boring. I tasted some of husbands kebab filling(he gets a kebab from this place that does amazing curries don't ask me why) and it was laced with sweet chilli sauce. Ugh. It wasn't nice and I used to love sweet chilli. I can do a decent curry at home so I will just have to resign myself to that.

Ninkanink · 01/04/2021 10:31

@BustleInYourHedgerow poppadoms are okay (within reason) so I usually have a couple with a takeaway or restaurant curry. Gives that bit of crunch that you need to balance the meal well.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 01/04/2021 10:38

I was looking at low carb bread recipes yesterday (the SLC stuff is good, but I can make my own cheaper I think) and came across a flatbread/naan type one so I think I might give it a go. It does require wierd and wonderful ingredients though (I'm sure SLC bread contains wierd things too!), but I found some psyllium husk powder in the back of the cupboard from previous LC eating and it was well sealed so I'll try it out. Also bookmarked a pizza base to try as I find the fathead one a bit too rich and not bready enough.
I'll report back when I've tried them...

BustleInYourHedgerow · 01/04/2021 10:48

Oh wow Nintendo I didn't know that. And the takeaway included around 5 poppadoms with the takeaway last night. I kept them for DS though, he is happily munching away on them right now !

Ninkanink · 01/04/2021 10:56

You do need to be careful - it’s between 3 and 5g each depending on the size, so you can’t have loads. But I have a couple and that’s not enough to derail me.

EarlGreyHot · 01/04/2021 10:56

Thank you to BIWI and Athelstane and everyone else who makes these threads such a wonderful source of information, motivation and support Flowers

2lbs off this week so that's a grand total of 4lbs for this bootcamp. I held off posting as I was hoping for last minute whoosh Hmm

However I have lost 17lbs since the start of pre-Christmas bootcamp and I think it was Stuntnun's post about health and where we would be without bc that really struck a chord here. Most of my friends and family are bemoaning weight gain over the last year and this was me until I found BC in the autumn. Onwards!

prettybird · 01/04/2021 11:23

@RagzReturnsRebooted - there's a recipe for flatbreads in the Vegetarian thread that I got/adapted from Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet book. It's so good that dh snaffles "my" flatbreads Grin

Ninkanink · 01/04/2021 11:29

@prettybird what a beautiful memory attached to your last pair of earrings. I’m glad you found them again! Flowers

prettybird · 01/04/2021 11:36

I've just remembered that I'd also lost one of them about 6 months before Blush (you can see why dh rolls his eyes Wink). Recycled my route to Pilates and checked the studio and our post-Pilates coffee location. No joy Sad

About 3 weeks later, I was unpacking the dishwasher and there, at the bottom of the dishwasher was the missing and very clean earring ShockGrin

ListenLinda · 01/04/2021 12:25

Oh guys, just had a moment. DD had my phone while I was on a work call. She was taking pictures and managed to catch me from behind. Awful picture, I still have so far to go. Feeling down in the dumps now, but i’ll KOKO. I’ve let a couple of things slide last couple of days and need to really reign it back in ASAP.
My little rant, hope everyone is okay today.

prettybird · 01/04/2021 12:56

@ListenLinda - you have less distance to go than you did ....and if you hadn't started this WoE, you'd progressively have had further to go. As @StuntNun pointed out yesterday in her fabulous post, the extra weight creeps on little by little. It will take time to come off sustainably - but the great thing about this WoE is that it is sustainable

@venusandmars - what a lovely story about your earrings. And they are truly beautiful Thanks

@Ninkanink : as promised, a "bonus" picture of my antique possibly Jensen clip-on earrings, plus a picture of the matching bracelet (which was a necklace but has been split in two).

Sorry I haven't managed to keep up this week. I have just ordered some size 12 clothes, I don't have any size 12 clothes but according to the measurements they should fit, so I'm quite nervous/excited about that idea.
I bought loads of nice food this week but don't seem to be hungry at all so I'm going to have to freeze most of it.

Dinner pork belly slices with chilli flak3s and green veg with cheese sauce. Yum.

ListenLinda · 01/04/2021 15:12

@prettybird you are of course right. Just took me aback a bit, that I still can’t see much progress.

Oneborneverydecade · 01/04/2021 16:36

@MrsOmelette well done on losing 2 stone, that's fantastic. Thanks also for the nursery advice, we're 30 mins from the south coast so almost as far away as it's possible to be

@Bestbees 10k is fab! I'm still building up to 8 mins Grin Will you do it regularly now?

@StuntNun I didn't realise either, maybe they'll go in the sale post Easter

ouchmyfeet · 01/04/2021 17:02

Sorry I have been a bit absent this week. Have been struggling with a heavy cold and a very busy week work wise. Happily logging off now after a job interview this afternoon and have never been so ready for a 4 day weekend!

Takeaway and a G&T for me tonight. We're getting lebanese so a tasty kebab with a big side of fattoush and some halloumi will keep me on plan. It's my birthday this weekend and I have been off chocolate for lent so some will definitely be consumed on Sunday. I am going to be mindful though and it will be very limited. Going to make the diet doctor cake that someone posted a few weeks ago, looks like it's basically eggs and chocolate . My eldest DS has also been off chocolate so the cake is mainly for him and I will have a small slice with whipped cream and berries.

Going to do some batch cooking tomorrow for the week ahead, including having a go at cabbage leaves for the layers in lasagne.

Have a good weekend all GlitterballGlitterballGlitterball

Loved seeing your earrings @prettybird , you have inspired me to wear a few more. I am a bit concerned about how many of them you lose though! Can you not invest in some stronger backs for them??

ouchmyfeet · 01/04/2021 17:03

Off to google remoulade. I have no idea what it is!

BIWI · 01/04/2021 17:05

I'm joining a zoom call at 5.30 tonight, for one of my old colleagues, who is retiring today. It's a 'cook along' lesson - to make pasta! I'm going to join in, rather than just watch, but will pass the pasta on to DH/DS1.

I have made a large dish of cauliflower cheese to put in the oven later so I don't get tempted by the pasta!

StuntNun · 01/04/2021 17:13

Ouchmyfeet I always think Remoulade sounds like one of these awful gelatin concoctions that were fashionable in the 70s. I assume it's something far more appealing and delicious.

Hey all - frantically trying to parent, host play date and work so not been on thread yet.

Love love love the whole of the earring challenge and what a brilliant last story.

I've decided to stop weighing daily - I can cope with the bounce downs but not the bounce ups and it makes me unnecessarily grumpy.

I am instead focussing on how I feel, my energy levels, my digestive system and how much it boosts my self esteem to know that I am caring and nourishing my body. Taking time to plan, shop, cook and eat well is so good for my mental health.

I put lots of lovely tapas style bits in the shop - meats, manchego, loads of different olives, feta. Felt very decadent but it's served me well already with a great snack (small
Bowl of chimichirri olives and feta) during movie time!

Have done a menu plan for the week and was wondering what to serve with the lamb doner and halloumi so will be looking up those flatbreads!!

I have a celeriac crisps question - well, all of the questions as mine as always very disappointing!!

Oil - loads or a light brush
Salt - before or after
Thickness - thinnest or thickest on mandolin
Oven - high and short or low and long
Peel - yes or no

Any tips would be very welcome!!

Howdidthathappen1 · 01/04/2021 17:20

Thank god my scales broke during my house move on Tuesday as I've been the carbiest twat in carbyville. Total emotional eating through sheer stress- the complete state the house we've bought is horrific - how some people have zero pride or conscience in what they leave behind I cannot fathom.
But hey - fridge arrives tomorrow followed by shopping trip to get firmly back on the wagon and sort my weight - and house- out!!!

Oneborneverydecade · 01/04/2021 17:31

Oh no @Howdidthathappen1 apart from the filth are you happy with your new house?
