We've reached the end of the Low Carb Bootcamp so how did you do overall? Add your weigh-in to the Spreadsheet and let us know your plans. Would you like to keep losing weight over the coming week and months? Are you thinking about giving weight maintenance a go? Have you considered introducing intermittent fasting? This thread will continue until the next Bootcamp starts so there will be plenty of support for you.

Oh no, not just you, Brassica. This is my “safe space” thread, to be sure.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/04/2020 07:49

to all safe spaces Grin

Today I have an abundance of leeks. What's the BEST leek thing you've ever eaten? Am feeling inspired to make an effort in the kitchen today, so can manage more than 1 ingredient Blush

(Probably because I have a v. v. v. important work deadline to meet, so naturally desperate to do something else)

Glittercandle · 07/04/2020 09:53

Lovely to see this thread is still going. Have lost 6lbs since boot camp ended. Are there plans for another boot camp?

Finding it hard to get my head around just shopping once a week. Having three supermarkets in walking distance and having plenty of time on my hands meant I was used to popping to the shops very often and cooking whatever I fancied. Now I have to plan properly and just eat what we have - makes for some interesting low carb meals. The rest of the family are doing really well out of it as I plan for them and my meals are just an afterthought, must plan better for myself too. I found a veg box company that’s delivering to new customers, hopefully that will give a bit more variety.

DietChic · 07/04/2020 10:03

My fast day gave me another pound off which is good for motivation but I know it’s not “real” but it did just help a bit with the slowness. I am very impatient and must not fall off wagon!

Today omelette for lunch, lamb chops this evening.

BIWI · 07/04/2020 10:17

@Glittercandle

I'm not sure about the next Bootcamp, to be honest. I usually do one at the end of May, so that the finish coincides with the start of the school/summer holidays - but that point in time doesn't seem to exist any more!

I'm also mindful that it's not necessarily the easiest time for many people to start thinking about dieting - and especially not if people can't easily source lower carb foods.

So I'm on a 'wait and see' strategy right now!

BrassicaBabe · 07/04/2020 11:59

Nice one on the 6lb Glitter.

Can you imagine what a new BC would like at the moment BIWI. With all the will in the world it would be hard work. Even the most committed are struggling with comfort eating etc

I've got alpine eggs in the oven. Wouldn't it be nice if I could lose weight with that volume of cheese. I doubt it. But it looks v tasty!

Glittercandle · 07/04/2020 12:39

BIWI not surprised at all, agree it would be very difficult in the circumstances

Thanks brassica the impact the virus is having on people is keeping me motivated as my BMI is currently 41 which increases the risk - I know I feel healthier when low carbing so need to keep going.

StuntNun · 07/04/2020 13:17

BIWI how about a four-week mini-Bootcamp for us to reset our motivation and focus on good food? Maybe mainly for past or current Bootcampers than for newbies?

Well done Glotter and well done Greeno and anyone else I’ve missed! It fabulous and inspirational.

1Wildheartsease · 07/04/2020 14:46

Bright spot: HFLC means lower need for toilet-paper and no queuing for pasta.

NoOneCaresInRealLife · 07/04/2020 18:34

Hi all,
Hows everyone keeping? I've another 6lb off since finishing bootcamp so really pleased.
Can anyone help me with this that happened last night/today please?
Baking with the family on Sunday lits of sweet and savoury things and resisted all of them except a millionaire shortbread!! I know, I know- three my carbs into mega overdrive but i just thought ah well, it's a one off!
Fast forward to last night from 3am o wards i had terrible diarrhoea but small fast amounts, felt light headed (hubby had to walk me back to bed) then felt like i wanted to be sick but just bile. My stools were orangey in colour. TMI I'm sorry.
Could this perhaps be from the sugar overload? I don't know but that was the only thing I ate/ did differently.

ShagMeRiggins · 08/04/2020 10:20

NoOneCares sorry to have ignored you for so long. First, I hope you’re feeling much better now, it sounds dreadful. Second, it would surprise me if this was down to a millionaire shortbread.

The bile and stool colour doesn’t really make sense with what others have reported historically when carbs/sugar are introduced and the effects they cause.

How long had it been since you’d had sugar and what usually happens? I don’t react as badly as some, especially those who have concluded an intolerance. I just get instantly pregnant Grin and lethargic. Maybe a looser stool but that’s about it.

BIWI · 08/04/2020 10:39

A sudden influx of sugar (too many Haribos on a long car journey Blush) resulted in very urgent and horrible diarrhoea. (No idea what colour it was though!)

Hope you're feeling better now @NoOneCaresInRealLife?

BrassicaBabe · 08/04/2020 17:27

Ooh, my rhubarb is growing. Might see if there is enough to have for dinner. Rhubarb is technically a veg and v low carb if I remember rightly. So a big tick in the FLGV for me Grin

BIWI · 08/04/2020 18:17

It makes lovely gin too! Grin

400g rhubarb (as much as you'd normally get in a supermarket pack), chopped up

1.5 litres of cheap supermarket gin

Put rhubarb into a bowl and pour over the gin. Stir and leave for 3-4 days, stirring occasionally. Then sieve/drain the gin back into the original bottle.

No need to add anything else. Definitely don't add sugar!

Lovely with ginger ale as well as the usual tonic.

BrassicaBabe · 09/04/2020 11:31

Ooh. Thanks. Will definitely do that. Fab that it has no sugar!

Fighting the fuck its today. Lockdown-itis Sad Need to stay strong. It's a lovely day. Not waivered yet but the kids are making mini egg fudge later SadSadHmm

BrassicaBabe · 09/04/2020 14:22

Hmm. A bit of exercise kept the fuckits away. Did that "step up challenge" that's going round. Walked up my home flight of stairs 50 times. So 650 steps

AthelstaneTheUnready · 09/04/2020 18:42

First week back on bootcamp, and I have...

... drumroll...

... put on a lb.

And THAT is because I didn't stop drinking wine.

Never mind am back on the wagon as of today, which scores a perfect 10 for water, 3 different types of green veg in pepper and turmeric, and fatty pork with fennel*.

naming the fancy additions so Shag won't think I'm a total McDonalds-eating* gourmet loser.

** I have never eaten a McDonalds.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 09/04/2020 21:29

Sorry I've been AWOL.
DS1 had a minor heart attack a few days ago. He's OK, doing well and resting and sleeping lots.
Doctors don't know what caused it, but there doesn't appear to be any lasting damage to.his heart.

All this means my eating has gone out of control and I've gone back to carbs. Now things are calmer I'm climbing back on the wagon.

BIWI · 09/04/2020 23:13

OMG @HerRoyalCarbyLess, that's awful Sad. I'm not surprised that carbs made their reappearance. Thank goodness there doesn't seem to be any lasting damage.

Sending you Flowers and as many healing vibes as possible.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 10/04/2020 11:06

I don't have much in in the way of low carb stuff Hmm
I need to go shopping, but I've no money to.get back. Its all well and good giving us food vouchers but I need to.travel to the shops and the vouchers are in store only, and I can't carry it back because of my disability. But I'm also not classed as vulnerable because I don't have a lung condition. My condition is rare and not recognised as needing support despite me using a wheelchair. And also I'm autistic and don't cope well ina supermarket. But I'm still not classed as vulnerable! Its ridiculous.

But it is what it is.

1Wildheartsease · 10/04/2020 12:27

Very sorry to hear this @HerRoyalCarbyLess Flowers

DietChic · 10/04/2020 13:06

Gosh, @HerRoyalCarbyLess that sounds very stressful. I told a friend six weeks ago I was going low carb and she waved her hand airily and said how it was so stressful these days I deserved to have a bowl of pasta if I wanted - and I sort of nodded at her but actually I deserve to be healthier. I don’t need to be stressed AND fat. I adore food but I don’t adore the results of over eating and eating the wrong.

Anyway - spinach and mushroom omelette for lunch, pork chops for dinner with asparagus and broccoli.

However long this goes on for I am determined to come out lighter than when I went in!

BIWI · 10/04/2020 15:13

@HerRoyalCarbyLess whereabouts do you live? Could any of us help you?

(Don't answer that if you don't want to!)

Otherwise, it's worth checking out Facebook - we have a very active local Covid-19 group who are helping people in the community

Glittercandle · 10/04/2020 15:44

carbyless sorry to hear about your son, that sounds really frightening.
Have you approached your local council for help or as BIWI suggested looked for a local Facebook group? I really hope you get the assistance you need Flowers

Yesterday DD2 popped to M&S as we ran out of milk (think we won’t need to do that anymore as we are learning to use our online slot more wisely) and bought some chocolate peanut butter bites- I ate 2 and they were so worth it! Didn’t let it de-rail me and have a carried on as normal since.
