We've reached the end of the Low Carb Bootcamp so how did you do overall? Add your weigh-in to the Spreadsheet and let us know your plans. Would you like to keep losing weight over the coming week and months? Are you thinking about giving weight maintenance a go? Have you considered introducing intermittent fasting? This thread will continue until the next Bootcamp starts so there will be plenty of support for you.

Signed p. Looking forward to ultra boot camp week!

BIWI · 12/05/2020 12:23

@ilovecherries - yes I was going to post a warning about the counting aspect of it - I know it can be very triggering fort many. But I am also hopeful that given it's just for a week it should be OK.

Glittercandle · 12/05/2020 12:29

Signed up - will be interesting to do this in a slightly different way.

venusandmars · 12/05/2020 12:49

Thank God there's no skipping Grin

I need to get back on top of portion size, as well as not snacking. I found it quite hard getting back on top of things over the last week and I was feeling hungry if I tried I/F. But it seems a bit easier now. Does a creamy coffee count as breaking the fast?

Today:
B - creamy coffee (but not until 10.45am)
L - egg mayonnaise, avocado, salad
D - sea bass fillet with butter, creamed spinach, grilled tomato with olive oil

Just to see how it would compare with the proposed BC, I put it into mfp and I think it is 1019 calories, 34g carb, 77g fat, 59g protein, but I haven't weighed anything...

1Wildheartsease · 12/05/2020 13:02

@BIWI - I have a pressure cooker/slow-cooker that is mainly used when the whole family is home - it has a large pot .

I don't know much about pressure-cooking - so I've mainly used it as a slow cooker or more daringly, for roast meats when the oven is full.

However it turns out that pressure-cooking mince (as chilli or bolognese) is amazing! It is melt-in-the-mouth rich and flavoursome.

BIWI · 12/05/2020 13:07

@venusandmars

Does a creamy coffee count as breaking the fast?

It depends how long you're fasting for. If you do 12:12, that means you could start your morning with a creamy coffee - for example, you finish your evening meal by 8pm (no snacking afterwards!) and then don't eat or drink anything with calories in it until 8am the next day - voila you've done 12:12! And a creamy coffee would be fine first thing.

However, if you wanted to move to 16:8, that would mean no calories until 12 noon. Therefore the creamy coffee wouldn't be allowed.

1Wildheartsease · 12/05/2020 13:58

I'm keen to try the new short-sharp-shock bootcamp. My birthday is on the 28th - so I will probably delay my start until the 29th. (However, things are so peculiar at the moment that I might just not count 2020 and will stay the same age until next year.)

Counting used to be triggering for me - but the food on this is so satisfying that I'm hoping all will be well. I keep looking at the Fast800 and similar but am not sure about measuring everything as a life-style.

ShagMeRiggins · 12/05/2020 14:49

1Wildheartsease the best pork loin I ever had in my life was from a pressure cooker. Our hostess had a savoury glaze on it as well but it was so tender we couldn’t guess the meat.

BIWI thanks for setting up the boot camp. I’ve obviously signed up.

Very glad you said the Short, Sharp, Shock was optional because I doubt very much that I’ll participate in the calorie counting.

It doesn’t trigger me but I’ve never counted calories in my life and I’m not interested in it at all. Just seems like such a faff!

I’ll have a think about it as I do want to commit to the spirit of things. Perhaps it would be enough for me to just track calories that first week? still a faff Grin

BrassicaBabe · 12/05/2020 18:36

Well, I'm half way on the wagons, half way to "feck it, BC starts in 2 weeks, eat, drink and be merry!"

But also, I've tracked my calories for today in MFP dipping my toe in the new BC water. Actually I think it's going to be a helpful exercise. I've got into bad habits of skipping meals then thinking I can merrily eat pepperami and port cracking. That needs to stop. Tomorrow I'll endeavour to have a proper lunch of eggs and something. It'll be similar or less calories and will fill me up better.

Having roasted rhubarb for dinner with erythritol sweetener (for those of you not anti artificial sweetener. I reckon rhubarb could be classed as FLGV Grin

BIWI · 12/05/2020 18:40

@ShagMeRiggins one of the reasons Bootcamp is set up as it is, is that I can't be faffed with counting carbs or calories! But my thinking is that it's only for a week, and it should help to get us focused. Of course, as I've already said, it's not obligatory, so if people are feeling triggered, or simply don't want to, then they don't have to.

(And it goes without saying - although I will say it - that anyone with a history of disordered or dysfunctional eating, is really not advised to do it)

ShagMeRiggins · 12/05/2020 18:55

I understand your reasoning BIWI and actually think it will be an interesting exercise to see how it affects people, both in weight loss and comfort zone. So many newbies inadvertently calorie count anyway—I wonder if it will serve as an easing in period for them. Hmm.

Very good advice to those with history of disordered eating, which I’m sure you’ll reiterate at the start on 25 May.

I’m going to focus on maintaining until we start so I can get the (I hope) full benefits of a Week 1 whoosh when doing everything by the book. Haven’t had that in a long time as I tend to stick with BC Lite/maintenance between BCs, give or take a pound or two.

I might even have a carbload blowout the two days before so I can experience this Carb Flu I keep hearing about. Never had it, ever.

1Wildheartsease · 12/05/2020 21:37

I've not had carb flu either @ShagMeRiggins... and yet it is all anyone tells you about when asked to talk about the benefits of LCHF.😀

I think this new boot camp will be a good way to try new/old things - in a short but intense way.

Don't worry BIWI if it seems likely to pull me back into pointless old ways I will stop.

Boot camp lite +wine is my normal (and your boot camps have put me from obese into a bit overweight) but I suspect I will need to do more to lose my last 10lb.

Doilooklikeatourist · 12/05/2020 22:06

Signed up for the short , sharp shock as I’ve managed to put on 9 lb , since the end of the last Bootcamp which coincided with the start of lockdown
I’ve started Bootcamp gentle (™️) as I had horrendous carb flu on a couple of Bootcamp start up weeks
I’m a terrible stress eat and drinker , this has been a very tricky time but I think we’ll be ok now
Onward ✅

Xenia · 13/05/2020 08:03

Good luck to everyone. I may not officially "join" but will follow you. I am still doing fine (about 10 stone 8 or 9) and lost about 16 pounds in about 9 weeks which is a good start - I started about 2 weeks before lock down. I am now almost down to the highest but healthy weight for my height (10 stone 6) but have often been 9 - 9 and a half stone which certainly makes me feel better (sorry to anyone who works in Kg). So losing another stone would be good.

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2020 08:28

Morning campers! Enjoying the air of anticipation around new style BC !!
@ShagMeRiggins I had that carb flu thing and I don’t recommend it! I felt really rubbish - no energy, weeing loads, thirsty, hungry, headache and generally floppy like when you are coming down with something. It took about 5 days to pass. I nearly gave up!
Still not losing weight here. Weigh most days and no movement except for the same pound up and down. However I can actually see a difference in size and I have less of a tummy and my face looks thinner (and more haggered 😬). Why is not showing on scale?! I have been cycling with kids lots, but not exactly Tour de France so cant imagine I have developed A Muscle. Maybe my scales have broken?! (Hopeful 🤣).

SophieRay · 13/05/2020 09:21

Devon - I'm exactly the same, feeling slimmer, sure my stomach has reduced in size and can't believe the scales are well and truly stuck. I just don't get it. Obviously it's nice to feel a bit slimmer, but want to see it on the scales too. Hoping the new BC will help!!

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2020 09:55

@SophieRay so odd isn’t it?! Have you measured? I did a couple of weeks ago and did again just now and I have lost an inch from most places! Waist is noticeable (to me not to anyone else!) but also from boob circumference (if that makes sense 🤣) and thigh and hip. I didn’t record upper arm but recorded today and will check in a few weeks. So that is a bit of a win! I feel like a melting snowman!
Tried 1 slice of low carb bread today with peanut butter (my former usual breakfast but not with lc bread) and enjoyed with cup of tea. Did t feel so hungry this am so has been plenty. Will not have during bc as want to really commit to a change of habit, but was a nice change from egg this morn!

BIWI · 13/05/2020 10:42

@devoncreamtea - you should, in theory, be due a whoosh pretty soon. You can see that things are happening, because you're losing inches - and the scales should soon follow.

This is one reason why we recommend taking measurements as well as weighing!

venusandmars · 13/05/2020 11:34

Was tempted by wine last night, and gave in Sad. However I've just poured the remainder of the bottle down the sink so I don't feel the need to finish it this evening Smile

Food today:
B - creamy coffee, but not till 10.30am to give 14hrs fast
L - a sort of shakshuka made with left over veg from yesterday
D - tuna salad nicoise

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2020 12:54

@BIWI - I’m looking forward to that!!😀

ShagMeRiggins · 13/05/2020 13:01

#commitment

venusandmars · 13/05/2020 13:14

Possible to do in the morning while I'm feeling determined. Come 5pm I'd be pouring it down my neck, despite my best intentions.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/05/2020 13:43

double Shock Shock

I haven't had a glass since Saturday, and that is ONLY because it's not in the house.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 13/05/2020 13:59

I've just got weighed and had another 3lb woosh!! Now at 11st 4lbs, so 11lbs left to get to my target weight.

This time last year I was 4 stone heavier, and pre-diabetic. I started low-carbing in the October boot camp; at that stage I was 14st 7lbs.

I cannot recommend low-carbing enough. It is trickier as a vegetarian, but still do-able, and it has improved my health no end, which I'm particularly glad of in the current climate.

And water really does make SUCH a difference 💧💧💧

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2020 14:27

@mrsGareth that is so inspiring! Well done 🙂
How much difference does your weight loss make to clothes sizes?

I don’t think I’m drinking enough water atm. Will try harder! Glug...
