We've reached the end of the Low Carb Bootcamp so how did you do overall? Add your weigh-in to the Spreadsheet and let us know your plans. Would you like to keep losing weight over the coming week and months? Are you thinking about giving weight maintenance a go? Have you considered introducing intermittent fasting? This thread will continue until the next Bootcamp starts so there will be plenty of support for you.

Are you still pre diabetic @mrsgareth? The health gains on this woe seem fantastic.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 13/05/2020 15:47

I am in a size 12 now @devoncreamtea. I was in a 16 to 18 before (18 top half).

And I was retested for HbA1c levels in February this year, when I was around a stone heavier than I am now, and was back in the normal range 🎉🎉🎉Smile

Definitely get that water drunk!! I drink a minimum of 3 litres a day, and if my intake stalls, so does the weight-loss Shock

Luckily I like water Smile

MrsGarethSouthgate · 13/05/2020 15:51

PS It is expensive but I eat lots of Lo-Dough. When I'm short on time it's quick and easy to make a wrap of something like veggie meatballs, spinach, cheese and mayo, or similar 🌯

1Wildheartsease · 13/05/2020 16:20

Well done MrsGarethSouthgate - this is inspiring.

I tried Lo-Dough and found it useful ...but expensive , hard to get hold of (too much packaging) and not tasty/satisfying.

I now make the ground-almond/egg 'bread' rolls (on the recipe thread) and freeze them for the odd occasions when I need/want a bread substitute.

They are cheap, I know exactly what they are made of and they de-frost (very quickly) to become useful holders for good low-carb fillings. I like the taste - especially with seeds on top.

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2020 16:50

I’m so impressed by that @MrsGarethSouthgate! Amazing results.
Yes..water!!! 😬

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2020 16:55

@wildhearts. I’ll look at that recipe - there are some on DD but I haven’t tried them. I liked the slice of low carb bread this morning, but it has additives so might be nice occasionally. It’s in freezer - so I can have a slice with pb when I fancy but not every day. I did make some seed crackers from Diet Dr website but they were vile...!!

SophieRay · 13/05/2020 17:10

So inspiring MrsGareth - well done!!

In shock at the wine down the sink though Venus Shock

MrsGarethSouthgate · 13/05/2020 18:07

Thanks guys Smile

@1Wildheartsease is it this one?

Low carb bread

Ingredients:
1 cup milled flaxseed (you can substitute part of them for chia seed for a change)
1/2 a cup ground almonds
1/2 - 3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
4 eggs
3 tablespoons water

  • Mix dry ingredients in a bowl
  • Beat eggs and water together a bit in a separate bowl
  • Mix the dry and wet ingredients together
  • Pour into a small loaf tin, spread it out so it's fairly level and bake for 20-25 minutes at 200 celsius.

The recipe threads don't appear pinned for me anymore for some reason, so took some finding.

I will give it a go if you recommend it, sometimes I just want some crunch with my poached eggs! 🍳

BrassicaBabe · 13/05/2020 18:37

Great progress MrsGareth

When the kids say "I’m bored". I normally reply that you don’t die of boredom.....But I think I might ACTUALLY die of boredom. I'm even too bored to do the things I do have to do. Sad

1Wildheartsease · 13/05/2020 20:54

@MrsGarethSouthgate the one I used is:

160 degrees oven for 45mins
4 large or 6 small rolls cooked on baking paper on a baking tray

Bowl of wet ingredients for whisking
(whisk with electric whisk till stiff)
3 egg whites
1 teasp (cider) vinegar

Bowl of dry ingredients
Mix together than whisk into the bowl of wet whisked eggs
1 and a quarter cups of ground almonds
half teasp salt
1 teasp bicarbonate of soda
pinch of garlic powder if liked
1 tablesp psyllium husk

160ml boiling water. Add to the bowl of whisked up ingredients and whisk some more until you have a light fluffy playdough.

Divide into 4 pieces and shape into balls.
Place on baking paper on baking sheet
brush with water and sprinkle with seeds (if liked)

Bake 45 mins and leave to cool

Freeze for future use or keep in fridge.
Mine defrost in time for lunch if I put them in the fridge at breakfast time.

This mix will also make a loaf.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 13/05/2020 20:59

Thanks @1Wildheartsease - I don't have psyllium husk or cider vinegar, but will see if I can find some tomorrow and give this a try!

ShagMeRiggins · 13/05/2020 22:38

Brava, MrsGareth!

1Wildheartsease · 14/05/2020 00:31

I think any vinegar - or probably even lemon juice would work. It just has to be an acid.

I don't think it would bind well without the husk - but haven't tried it.

BrassicaBabe · 14/05/2020 19:04

Public Service Announcement:
Commercial doner kebab meat is 7.5g carbs per 100g
(Based on a sample of one!)

I've asked a couple of outlets but my newly re-opening takeaway actually answered me. I feared it would be much higher to be honest. Thought it might be chock full of risk

BIWI · 14/05/2020 20:41

That's still quite high though - what about the chicken alternative?

BrassicaBabe · 14/05/2020 20:44

Yeah, I do have the chicken one sometimes. Tends to be as dry as fuck though Grin

BIWI · 14/05/2020 23:00

Ah! That's what chilli sauce is for!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 15/05/2020 07:31

Not quite as useful Public Service Announcement:

Pork belly rescued from the bottom of the freezer is still amazing when roasted for half an hour.

Beef and chicken taste a bit rubbish unless in a stew, or curry, or bolognaise, but I guess pork belly being mainly fat, there isn't so much fibre to disintegrate.

SophieRay · 15/05/2020 07:57

Is chilli sauce ok then?? Mine is 22% carbs so have been avoiding

Glittercandle · 15/05/2020 09:12

SophieRay I use franks fed hot sauce and I’m sure that’s very low carb. Some of the Nando’s sauces are low carb too.

I haven’t lost much as I lost my way a bit but I’m back on it now. The tiny bit I have lost have finally brought my BMI below 40 - still a long way to go but very happy to have hit that milestone.

BIWI · 15/05/2020 09:31

it depends entirely on the brand, @SophieRay - but if you've got sweet chilli sauce, yes that will be high in carbs. Franks Red Hot Sauce has only 1.8g carbs per 100g. Sainsbury's Sweet Chilli sauce, as a comparison, has a whopping 48.1g carbs per 100g!

BrassicaBabe · 15/05/2020 10:00

Ooh, I have Franks sauce somewhere in the back of a cupboard

This is the most amazing belly pork recipe. Tender meat, yet amazing crackling.

BrassicaBabe · 15/05/2020 10:22

I've done another experiment in prep for new BC. It is not possible to stick to 1000 cals and sneak in a glass of wine Grin

Well, I guess it's some kind of LC miracle but I've pretty much maintained my weight since lockdown. 2-5lbs on at a weekend (or the occasional dive off the wagon) and 2-5lbs off in the week. Not too bad I guess considering exercise is very much up and down and alcohol is very much up!!

venusandmars · 15/05/2020 10:53

Bah.. Supermarket has the longest queue it's had in weeks. I might have to leave before I get my shopping... I've got an important appointment at 11.30 @shagmeriggins Wink

venusandmars · 15/05/2020 10:55

B - creamy coffee, boiled egg
L - left over veg curry
D - slow cooked lamb, spinach, asparagus, lots of butter
