Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Girding our loins and getting a grip

BIWI · 25/02/2019 08:51

Morning all

Having a bit of a snigger to myself, because autocorrect wanted me to tile the thread 'Girding our doings ...' Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

We only have four weeks left. I know! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!

There's been a bit of slippage going on, I notice - and whilst it's not all been of our own doing, sometimes it's about situations where we've reverted to 'learnt' behaviour or type.

So. Let's all pull our socks up! We have only four weeks left, but those weeks could make all the difference.

If you're worried about how the next few weeks are going to go, perhaps a return to Bootcamp rather than Bootcamp Light might help?

Whatever strategy you adopt, here's wishing us all very good luck

What happens after four weeks? I don’t feel ready to introduce any of my trigger foods although lots of people are urging me to do so.

BIWI · 25/02/2019 09:06

After four weeks, you can carry on! We'll all still be here. I keep the last chat thread running, and we all keep blethering on for as long as we want.

... and ignore other people! they're only doing that because what you're doing shows them up and/or makes them feel bad about their own diets/eating.

I'm working away today so will update the spreadsheet later but safe to say it is good news Sad

venusandmars · 25/02/2019 09:20

1.3lbs down. It feels significant because my weight in kg is the same as my age, which is a little target I've had in mind for a long time. I've got meals out this week on Thursday and Friday so will be super good the rest of the time.
B - Avocado
L - Spinach Soup
D - Prawn cocktail and smoked salmon salad

Condamine · 25/02/2019 09:21

Well, after all my pontificating yesterday I have lost 2.6 pounds! I am in shock, it's literally overnight. I've monitored my weight all week and its been hovering around the same weight then whoosh this morning.
Educated myself quite a bit yesterday so am approaching the final four weeks with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.

BIWI · 25/02/2019 09:25

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea it is or it isn't?! If it isn't, don't despair - time to over come it. If it is - yay!

@Condamine - Star. Well done. It is often the case that weight disappears in 'chunks'

Flowers @venusandmars - it's great when you reach a significant milestone, isn't it?!

Agree BIWI, the scales are really falling from my eyes. They’re addicts and addicts want you to indulge in the addictive substances along with them. They get quite angry when you say no I don’t want to. I could be here all day with the cliches they come out with but here are a few:
-Don’t get too thin
-You need carbs
-Everything in moderation
Oh the language of the addict!
Now that last one irks me. I don’t do moderation hence ELIMINATION!!!

Siameasy · 25/02/2019 09:29

I’ve started telling troublesome people that they’re addicts lol

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 25/02/2019 09:33

Sorry, I meant NOT good news.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 25/02/2019 09:33

Same again this week, was expecting a gain after all the phyllum last night so hopefully once that has worked its way through me it will be a loss.

Its really irritating im not losing, im being stricter then usual too. im wondering if this is the effect of having a baby that it slows everything down forever afterwards :(

I have decided as iv'e been on this plateau for so long that starting today im going to try some intermittent fasting. So mondays and thursdays i will skip both breakfast and lunch and have a small dinner. I have a wedding to go to in august which is my long term weight goal so that's about 22 weeks away. at 1 pound a week that will get me down to 11st 4 which i will be happy with. any extra will be a bonus.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 25/02/2019 09:35

hmmm may do some dress shopping for a size 12 as a goal dress :)

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/02/2019 09:53

3lb on , but I’m neither surprised nor disappointed
Had a lovely social weekend with friends, loads of fun , wine chat and food , and I’m still in the 10s
Back on it today , avocado and 2 poached eggs for breakfast , lovely start to the day
Glad you enjoyed the chicken Alfredo @nowlook , will peruse the Diet Dr website again , and find something else to try 👍

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/02/2019 09:59

No losing for me! Am joining Shag in the no-booze for the last four weeks, as that is definitely the culprit.

Siameasy, I did a carnivore 30 days last year with Dr Shawn's n=1 type experiment. Results - didn't lose a single pound, but didn't fluctuate at all. Zilch. Exact same weight day in day out. Red meat and offal only, and ended up only eating once in the evening since I just wasn't hungry at all. It was beautifully simple, my grocery bills just about halved, and I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at the end of it. I can always tell whether I'm eating enough 'good' because my skin shows every mistake, and my skin was just gorgeous by the end of the month.

However, leeks. And broccoli. And garlic. Those were my gateway veg back to a 'normal' diet. Can't really live happily without them. Also... when I eat more veg than meat, my calories are automatically a bit lower so I can lose weight doing this WOE. I think when I was meat only, I ate to 'proper' satiation which is why I didn't lose.

Dia12 · 25/02/2019 10:00

Morning all,
happy to report a 1.9lb loss...although I was down this much last week but weight went back up again after a few sessions at the gym.
Have been on plan with the eating, although I was indulging in double cream I kept an eye on the calories and was always under. Anyway, reduced the dairy so hopefully the weight loss should pick up?!
The amazing weather is getting me all excited for summer and getting into the pretty dresses I was too fat for last year!!

@Siameasy I feel your pain, it's such a task having to explain this woe and it really baffles a lot of people......I try to avoid it at all cost!

MrsFionaCharming · 25/02/2019 10:07

3lb down this week!

Limiting cheese has clearly made a difference, so I’m planning to continue doing that.

If I can lose another 2lb this week, I’ll reach my first stone loss!

MiniCooperLover · 25/02/2019 10:08

Hi there, I hope it's not too late to join in. It's week one for me and I've done a big shop and am ready to go 👍 42lbs to lose and am peri-menopausal at 45, a regular runner and I see a personal trainer once a week.

TheSquiffyQuiff · 25/02/2019 10:15

Almost 4lb off this week after a couple of very slow weeks.
I’ve been watching carbs and calories too more recently and watching my cheese intake as I’m a veggie. Has made a difference. Keeping between 20-25 carbs and under 1900 cals a day sees a daily loss.
Know we’re not meant to count, but found it easy to overdo the cheese and veggies with no meat to fall back on.
Even been having the odd square of hi cocoa Lindt 😁
Loving the nutty granola!

BIWI · 25/02/2019 10:21

Welcome @MiniCooperLover! Does your PT support this WOE? It will make things easier for you if he/she does.

Well done @TheSquiffyQuiff! If counting is working for you - which it clearly is - then go for it.

Morning all. Weighed this morning at 171lb which is the same as last week. I'm really pleased as I was sure that all the tablets and bloating would push me up.

Anyway all meds stopped now and I went to bed at 8pm last night to get some extra rest (So glad I did as dd coughed all night and needed 3 feeds, DS1 had an asthma attack and DS2 wet the bed - they must have made some kind of rota because no sooner had I got back to sleep I heard 'muuuummmy'). Still I am feeling brighter and less groggy today.

Hope you are all doing well. I'm going to catch up on last weeks thread now.

@BIWI Can you remind me what carb creep is again?

nowlook · 25/02/2019 10:25

Morning all! Delighted to report a 1.5lb loss...particularly given my mid-week wobble!

Well done to all the losers and to those planning to lose this week Grin

Rshard · 25/02/2019 10:28

I’m giving up alcohol for lent if you want to join me @shag and @athlestane? Starting lent as of today

Thanks for the new thread @BIWI, I def need to pull my socks up. Onwards and downwards

Hefzi · 25/02/2019 10:29

Just got back after a fortnight in a difficult environment for work. A pound on, which is a bit disappointing, but given that I was somewhere that vegetarianism is essentially unheard of, I have basically been existing on nuts, so I guess it could have been worse. No dairy at all, though, so I'm still a bit disappointed, as I know that does for me.

Back on it today, anyway, and back to glugging down the water - toilets are absolutely fabulous inventions Grin

BIWI · 25/02/2019 10:54

@MrsKoala - carb creep is simply when you start to consume more carbs than you were to start with, but without realising. So you think you're still keeping the carbs low, but actually your diet has become higher in carbs, which results in either no weight loss, or a weight gain

It happens very easily - we get a bit complacent, or we start thinking 'oh just one potato/piece of cake/biscuit won't hurt' - whereas it does!

It throws into relieve the need to be vigilant about the amount of carbs we're actually eating, not just what we think we're eating!
