Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Girding our loins and getting a grip

BIWI · 25/02/2019 08:51

Morning all

Having a bit of a snigger to myself, because autocorrect wanted me to tile the thread 'Girding our doings ...' Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

We only have four weeks left. I know! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!

There's been a bit of slippage going on, I notice - and whilst it's not all been of our own doing, sometimes it's about situations where we've reverted to 'learnt' behaviour or type.

So. Let's all pull our socks up! We have only four weeks left, but those weeks could make all the difference.

If you're worried about how the next few weeks are going to go, perhaps a return to Bootcamp rather than Bootcamp Light might help?

Whatever strategy you adopt, here's wishing us all very good luck

Oh Unexpected that sounds tough could you use MFP to track what you’re actually eating, just for a week to get an idea?

Athelstane impressed with the foraging. What do u do with wild garlic? Up for trying nettles and dandelion. We have excellent blackberry picking here and I still have last year’s in the freezer.
Omg cauli and broccoli cheese 😭

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 25/02/2019 20:52

I've started using my Fitbit again so I'll religiously log my food from tomorrow.

I'm so bloody pissed off but the answer does not lie in the biscuit barrel Grin

BIWI · 25/02/2019 21:26

Those are very wise words @UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea Grin

First day of intermittent fasting went ok. Snaffled a bit of cheese without realising it but otherwise fine and finished of the day with hake and browned broccoli in butter, garlic and lemon. will see if it has made any difference on the scales tomorrow.

Feel strangely physically empty but not hungry. Even my husband has stopped grumbling about the lack of carbs, finally worn him down!! :) he's usually requesting cake by now!

MrsKoala · 25/02/2019 21:35

Oh no unexpected. I know how you feel. Every other time I've done this woe I've been not hungry at all and everything has tasted so sweet. But this time i'm still hungry and I crave sweet things even more than I did before (I don't even have a sweet tooth but all I think about is biscuits and cake at the moment) Confused

Brassica, you are probably too young to remember but I very much remember the white wine, black coffee or fag diet in the 80s (or basically just the 80s). Every time you felt hungry you had one of the 3 options. I'd like to say I remember it, but it's all a blur. I was very thin tho Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 25/02/2019 21:37

I’ve probably asked this before, Unexpected, but how tall are you?

StuntNun I’ve looked into Seedlip and it’s fairly pricey for what is essentially flavoured water (sorry), plus I’m afraid Bombay Sapphire isn’t one of my favourites. I do appreciate the suggestion, though, and will keep it in mind if I ever panic and need/want a more gin-type flavour.

To be honest, I used to loathe gin. Funny how tastes can adapt.

BrassicaBabe · 25/02/2019 21:41

@MrsKoala GrinI don't smoke or drink coffee so that approach would be fun! Grin

tootstastic · 25/02/2019 21:46

Hi all, just catching up with the thread and it's sounding like a bit of a mixed week results-wise. Well done losers and just KOKO to those struggling, it's a fresh week and you can turn it around.

My weight loss improved this week...2lbs off, which was a relief after a long weekend away.

So, 47.8lbs off altogether since the Oct BC (11.6 of them this BC) and only another 1.2lbs to hit the 3 1/2 stone off mark.

But, with 83.2lbs still left to lose and over four months in, I'm trying not to think about how long it'll all take, it's too bloody scary!!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 25/02/2019 21:57

@ShagMeRiggins I'm 5'2" on a good day, so not a lot of frame on which to distribute the excess lbs.

Siameasy · 25/02/2019 22:07

Good work anyway tho tootstastic. You must feel better for the loss even tho you’ve a way to go?

Day one of meat only. Had bacon for lunch and pork chops for dinner. I ate the fat first so DH got 2/3 of the meat as I was full!!
Benefits: low effort and cheap. Not hungry at any point
Drawbacks: Im already missing veg or even just some Tabasco and I did have some minor carb cravings

1Wildheartsease · 25/02/2019 22:12

I ordered the (ouch - expensive water) seedlip spice drink - as I'd like something more fun than water (but not sweet) for drinking out in the sunshine this summer - and it appears to be on offer at Amazon just now.

This means that somewhere in my head I'm now accepting this way of life as more than something for the next few weeks.

BIWI · 25/02/2019 22:14

There's an interesting piece here about stalling, which might be helpful

tootstastic · 25/02/2019 22:31

Thanks @Siameasy, yes I am at least feeling better than I did and I know it can only get better if I keep going.

I tried the seedlip stuff, but didn't like it, it was far too strong a clove taste for me.

SummerSazz · 25/02/2019 22:48

Reported on the end of the last thread - 1lb off for me which I'm ok with. Exercise pretty poor last week (in fact I've already done more this week in 2 days ). Food was all good but probably a bit too much at the weekend so up 1 from a midweek low.

Totm coming up so need to stay on the straight and narrow. I tend to get a sweet tooth but oddly lose weight just before I come on....

Interesting article @BIWI To just carry on!!!

LazydaysofSummer · 25/02/2019 23:15

A small loss for me, which I'm pleased with, heading the right way again.

Just had a weekend away at the seaside, which was brilliant given the weather! Hubby used it as an excuse to completely fall of the wagon, with the old I'm on holiday I should be able to eat what I want line!
The odd thing was whilst I could have joined him eating chips and donuts etc I just didn't want too! I mean I'm sure the donut would have been lush, but somehow now, I think it's just not worth it.

I've actually been carrying an open bag of Haribo around all weekend, but not been tempted once, previously if my son didn't eat them all when he opened them, they wouldn't be there the next day!

WhatTheFronti · 26/02/2019 04:19

Hi all! Have just caught up on this and the prior weeks thread. Had a 700gm drop this past week (happy dance!!) and I had drunk red wine this past weekend so am quite happy with that.
A NSV - I just ordered s12 (au) jeans for my autumn/winter wardrobe- s12 is actually my desired size (I m a fan of a soft curvy shape) although wouldn't say no to s10! They will be snug now but 🤞By end of April/may they will be comfy!

I am really intrigued by carnivore WoE....

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2019 06:19

Nice one on the size 12, Fronti.

I’m just checking in to say Day 4 Alcohol Free has been successfully completed. I’ve also been sleeping well (sorry, BIWI! Grin).

Now to figure out what today’s meals are going to be...

Rshard · 26/02/2019 06:31

Great progress @toots!

Fab NSV @fronti!

Successfully completed day 1 of my fresh start, feeling ready to koko again today. Mainly thanks to all the positivity on this thread!

Mimosa1 · 26/02/2019 06:51

Morning all.

@tootstastic there is another flavour of Seedlip that is more grassy / citrusy (with a green label rather than the red one) which may help?

I've been given some gorgeous Zetto wine glasses that are just a pleasure to drink anything out of. They are so thin and clinky. Anything in them feels like a treat. I believe they're about £25 per glass so not cheap but maybe worth getting one lovely one to drink sparking water out of? I luffs them - best present ever.

I'm off to read your stall article @BIWI. I haven't stalled per se, but been losing 100g or 200g a week and still v much in the overweight BMI so it should be faster. Cutting out all the milk I've been drinking should help though.

BalloonSlayer · 26/02/2019 07:09

Well done everyone!

Keep at it Shagging - don't let one disappointing day get to you.

I made the chicken and cauliflower alfredo linked to in the last thread last night. It was very nice but I overboiled the cauliflower, although I didn't really care TBH. Thanks @DoIlooklikeatourist for that. Flowers I will have the second half of it tonight and think I may add some mushrooms as you suggested.

My scales have started being more sensible now and I feel a bit happier. Like others I think I could do with cutting the dairy a bit.

Doilooklikeatourist · 26/02/2019 07:59

@BalloonSlayer , glad you enjoyed it 🥦
It’s funny , I’m in a Facebook group of cookbook fans , there’s one cake we all love ( blueberry , almond and coconut ) and a charred cherry tomato dish which is amazing , both not that useful in this group though , maybe the chicken , cauliflower Alfredo could be the same thing on this thread
We’re definitely having it for dinner again this week

Rshard · 26/02/2019 07:59

Your glasses sound lovely @mimosa, I am envious but we are a clumsy household

Interesting article, koko is definitely the way forward. Thanks @BIWI

m0therofdragons · 26/02/2019 08:36

Okay, I'm putting yesterday behind me. I spent last week avoiding all the cake and limiting to one piece at dd1's birthday party the yesterday I completely self sabotaged my efforts. I let myself get too hungry by not having enough lunch then got in from work and ate 2 cupcakes and a big slice of birthday cake. I have no idea where my brain was! Went to bed feeling so bloated and crap.

3lb increase this morning so back in the 11s. On it today but feeling teary and low.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 26/02/2019 08:45

My first day intermittent fasting went well and i was down a pound this morning so haven't been this low for weeks! will do another one thursday or friday me thinks. hopefully the loss will stick around. i too am thinking about the carnivore three day thing too. will look into it today but i don't like to mix too many techniques at once (as you don't know which is working!) so will see how i go with a couple of weeks of fasting first.

nowlook · 26/02/2019 08:54

On the subject of recipes, the most successful one pot I ever made was this one:

www.mumsnet.com/food/recipe/1116-Lamb-and-leek-hotpot

It calls for lamb neck fillet. I'm wondering if a lc version might be possible whereby sliced potatoes are replaced by celeriac or swede. It works well for this woe other than that!
