Week 2 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the first weigh-in!

BIWI · 22/10/2018 07:30

Morning all!

I love this week. It's my favourite week of the whole Bootcamp, because it's when people are finally convinced that it works!

And already I see some great losses - yes @TightPants that really can be true. No your scales aren't wrong, and presumably you'll be changing your name very soon?!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness to record the first week's loss.

Looking forward to hearing more great results Flowers

I have some questions (I'm only on day 2). What counts as low carb? Im aiming for around 30g but don't know if this is too much?
Why do we have to eat breakfast? I just have yoghurt for breakfast normally and apparently this is okay?
Does anyone calorie count too?

BIWI · 23/10/2018 13:28

We don't count carbs or calories on Bootcamp - which I've posted about several times. Just follow the rules and you'll be fine. It's only when you get near to your target that you might have to start considering calories a bit more - for the moment just concentrate on eating good food that satisfies your hunger. (That's not carte blanche to pile your plate high Smile)

Why do we have to eat breakfast? I just have yoghurt for breakfast normally and apparently this is okay?

Have you read Bootcamp rules? Rule number one explains this:

Eat three proper meals a day

You must eat breakfast. It doesn’t have to be a lot, and it doesn’t have to be absolutely first thing, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you’re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn’t be hungry between meals. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack). After the first two weeks of Bootcamp we will relax this, but these two weeks are critical in terms of helping you switch easily to a low carb way of eating - and if you start to feel hungry, it makes things much harder! Eating this way will ensure that your blood sugar levels are kept stable, which will mean that you are much less likely to experience hunger. A typical high carbohydrate diet can mean that snacking is a routine part of your day. Once your blood sugar levels are stable, by eating low carb, you should find that you no longer want to snack. But the rule of thumb here is ‘if you are hungry, eat!’. (Just make sure you are only choosing low carb snacks, of course!)

Just checking in! I've really been enjoying my breakfasts - mushroom, spinach and tomato fried in butter with salt, chilli flakes and cream. So great not to feel ravenous mid morning. We don't have eggs in the house because my son has a severe allergy so wondered if anyone had any suggestion for other breakfasts that don't include them? Thanks

EwanHoozami · 23/10/2018 14:28

Youcantscareme if you have a Tesco nearby their own-brand soya yogurt is 1g carbs.

tootstastic · 23/10/2018 14:43

@ilovecherries I'm in awe of your weight loss, what an achievement! I imagine clothes shopping is now much more fun? 🛍 🛍🛍

I have quite a lot to lose (for the umpteenth time!) and it's inspiring to read that there really is light at the end of the tunnel for those of us with lots to lose. It's reassuring that it will come off eventually, as long as I stick at it.

I'm not hungry, it is only a head thing, so I have to just keep reminding myself of that when I want to reach for the wrong stuff.

I went to Meadowhell shopping the other day and stood in the food court hopelessly looking for a low carb option for lunch. Ended up at a wrap stand in desperation and asked for just the meat and salad, with no wrap. Those are the moments I find most difficult when you just want to eat what everyone else is having and you can't.

On the whole though, it's the most delicious diet I've been on, so trying to look on the bright side and think about what I can have, rather than what I can't.

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/10/2018 14:52

@Onlyaprawn
I’m a newbie , and I do have eggs for breakfast most days , but eggless breakfast could be smoked salmon & cream cheese , avocado ?
Avocados are nice warm , fry them up with some veggies
I hope I’ve read the rules correctly 😀
I warmed up my Greek Yog this morning ! Made it more like comfort food

prettybird · 23/10/2018 15:38

Don't encourage ilovecherries to talk about clothes shopping Wink She is now a Hush addict Grin

And I'll vouch for the fact that she now looks fabulous and has gorgeous skin. You'd never believe her age. Shock

Rainbowturkey · 23/10/2018 15:45

I definitely was suffering from Keto flu yesterday, the good news is that and the itching has subsided. I also woke up with coffee breath so tested my wee and I’m in ketosis so know I’m on the right track.

Rshard · 23/10/2018 15:59

I think you made a good choice tootastic, I don’t know if there’s one in Meadowhell (I call it that too!) but Leon is a good choice to steer people too.

Rshard · 23/10/2018 15:59

to....forgetting basic English there ffs!

tootstastic · 23/10/2018 16:06

Ooh @prettybird a Hush addiction is dangerous, I won't encourage you @ilovecherries, but your gorgeous skin and fantastic figure would be wasted without the clothes to show them off

BIWI · 23/10/2018 16:12

@tootstastic - M&S is a good source of low carb snacky things. They do individually wrapped pieces of cheese, or pork crackling snack things - some are like twigs and some are like little Catherine wheels. They also do various cheeses wrapped in different types of ham, and prawns with a mayo/thousand island dip that aren't too bad

@Onlyaprawn - no need to think about special food for breakfast - you could just have leftovers from the night before, or think about a continental breakfast - e.g. cheese and cooked meats

@Rainbowturkey - if you're drinking the amount of water you should be, then ketostix are pretty unreliable! (Oh, and you don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight either!)

tootstastic · 23/10/2018 16:13

Thanks @BIWI I'll take a look in M&S, we've got a big M&S Food nearby.

Rainbowturkey · 23/10/2018 16:22

BIWI water is still an issue for me definitely need to drink more! I had the sticks at home as one of my children has a kidney condition and I need to test her everyday, just cut off the ketone part and used it for myself today but won’t be religiously checking.

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 23/10/2018 16:40

Morning All,

Weight first thing this morning 1st 214.1 lb put Coffee on heat on pan pee. As the scale is right there, how much did that pee weigh - 215.8 lb

I didn't consume anything and did empty put on a 1lb and a bloody half, damn air pressure changes.

But that's why I don't follow the once a week guide as I would have missed the 214 number if I had just done the 2nd weigh. On the spreadsheet I show the weight for Monday morning 216 but on my notes I've been down as low as 212 in the last 8 days.

So going to stay strong on Day 1 of 62 boot camp days to go.
No Cheating on Day 1

Thanks for the kind acknowledgements @starsky22 and @SayrraT

I'm tentatively poking my head in here, as I'm moving back to LCHF, due to needing to buy a pair of trousers yesterday, and the size 18 was too small BlushBlushBlush. I knew I'd put on weight, but had thought that my size 18 jeans were getting looser. Obviously not. And what's worse is that this was in M&S's generous sizing as well Sad.

However, we've just moved house, are selling the old house, and have a funeral to deal with, so the last few weeks have been fairly stressful, and will continue for another couple of weeks, not exactly ideal for changing a WOE, but I'm going to give it a go, and do my best.

New scales arrive tomorrow, so I'll have a starting weight on Thursday, but I'm looking for inch loss rather than weight loss, as I'm always heavier than I look ifswim. But, I have some minor surgery coming up in a few weeks, and I want to be lighter than I was at the booking in appointment Smile.

DH needs to lose a chunk of weight too, but he's not particularly interested in LCHF, he'll eat whatever I cook, but then is likely to snack on carby stuff as well, so not really sure how that's going to work.

Livinglavidal0ca · 23/10/2018 17:37

@BIWI thank you I didn't see the rules on the spreadsheet!! Seems like a much better way of eating and feel slightly annoyed I've calorie counted for months Grin

Iamnotacerealkiller · 23/10/2018 17:49

Today i realised im a sugar addict. went out for lunch, did really well at the canteen style place and scraped together a lunch of chicken thigh, roast cauliflower and green beans, piripiri sauce on the side (wasn't sure what was in it) was a bit lean so added lots of mayo.

However walking home i kept thinking that while i like this food, think its interesting etc, it doesn't excite me at all like the thought of (insert food here) this was the realisation that, like a heroin addict, sugar has broken my dopamine receptors and its a struggle to reach that high i have with sugar, without it.

Going low carbs stops me being so interested in food, im not excited by it anymore., God, is this how naturally thin people feel? they just don't care very much about food, could take it or leave it? Happy to walk by the biscuit tin because food isn't the high point of their day?

My physical cravings have gone but i feel like there is something missing and that in and of itself is really quite disturbing, that sugar makes me feel that way, that a foodstuff has been invented that takes my body hostage but society blames me for these failings, and unfortunately, often so do I.

prettybird · 23/10/2018 18:04

You can still have over

prettybird · 23/10/2018 18:09

Oops Blush

You can still have lots of lovely tasty food on this WoE. Have a look at the recipe threads for inspiration. There are even some Boot Camp Lite compatible desserts in the original recipe thread.

I had roast shoulder of pork on Sunday, served with roasted veg (celeriac, neeps, shallots and garlic with rosemary) and buttered mangetout.

Tonight we're having slow roasted breast of lamb, with creamy leeks and more roasted veg.

Dh and I are foodies, yet we still eat well on HFLC (although he does have occasional rice and roasted potatoes) Smile

gingergiraffe · 23/10/2018 18:19

Thewildrumpypumpus, I had my gall bladder removed a couple of years ago. I started this woe a week ago like everyone else but have not joined the data base. I’m happy to say that I have not suffered any problems. I have managed to lose 7lbs so far and am feeling a difference around my middle! I hope your tummy feels better soon. It may or may not be due to your change of diet but I wanted to reassure you that having no gall bladder does not necessarily rule you out.

blackteaplease · 23/10/2018 18:45

I love this woe, and the food I can eat. Tonight for dinner I had chicken curry and cauli rice. The curry had aubergine, mushroom and spinach with a sauce made from coconut milk, chicken stock and balti paste. It was delicious.

Countdownto40 · 23/10/2018 20:10

I'm late to the party! I signed up then went AWOL. Starting tomorrow with you all!

Ampstrong · 23/10/2018 20:32

Evening all!

I'm in bed with a cracking cold and am feeling a bit sorry for myself as I have the next two days off to myself and I was planning to swim lots and get my induction at the gym done (why are all the gym instructor ppl in their 20s 🤷‍♀️) but I guess I will see how I feel in the morning.

Still on period (2 in a month seems unfair to me!) am hoping that settles down a bit soon.

I find days at home difficult but have all the stuff here to make good choices 🤞

Keep telling myself over and over I lost 7lbs like a chant to keep myself focused lol, must accept and be happy with a more usual 2-3 next week and not be disappointed.

I'm seeing my gran on dec 1st and I constantly feel judged- I'd love to be 14st again when I see her or at least within a few pounds of it-I have 5 weeks to lose a stone not sure how likely that is but it's a small goal nevertheless 🙂

Keep on keeping on all, this threads a lifesaver and I find myself regularly checking in throughout the day so thanks for all the posts everyone.

SayrraT · 23/10/2018 20:55

Very quick message, I'm off to bed soon as I'm feeling rubbish. I've had a cough for 9 weeks but finally got doctors appointment yesterday.

I now have antibiotics and an inhaler but too soon for it to be making a difference.

Will catch up with you all tomorrow.
